They are subgroup of Yoruba that migrated to Aniocha area. They were allowed in and given a land to grow though. Albeit, they now speak igbo and rarely any Yoruba And majority of their ppl classified themselves as Igbo. They were never Igbo people to begin with, they just adapted and switched to fit in the groups around them. Currently, the few of their ppl who still know their history and background are trying desperately to bring back a sense of pride to the Olukumis so they can start claiming their real ethnicity, sadly, it's not working. The igbo they speak is the ones they learned from igbo groups around them. |

Very few people know about this group but there are actually an Igbo group in Limbe, Cameroon. A friend of mine is actually from that area. He was the first Igbo boy I met that told me he was from Cameroon, till date I envy the sh1t out of those people. They are lucky not be in Nigeria. Anyway, according to him his people are Igbo group in Cameroon but sadly, alot of their culture have intermixed with the Bamouns of Cameroon so their culture is more identical to them than to Igbos in Nigeria. But they still self identify as Igbo despite losing many connections to Igbos of Nigeria. Supposedly their hometown is very close to Nigeria and that's why they still maintain their identity at least according to him. I know they equally recently joined Ohaneze. There rarely much written about them on google to be honest. I went looking for more information about them and apart from the old colonization papers on them, nothing else except pictures of their inauguration of ohaneze. I do believe their ohaneze is also different from the igbo ones in Nigeria; there's more of a kingship than anything else. I may be wrong but from the picture I saw of the inauguration it looks more of a celebration for a king.
In as much as I envy those people and I wish Asaba was in their place, I honestly don't understand why they still claim Igbo since they've lost their culture, the language (trust me when my friends speaks, despite them calling it Igbo. It is not Igbo. It sound like a made up language. They corrupted the living sh1t out of that language), and even ohaneze is a king to them. They pretty much lost the identity that say Igbo so don't understand why they call themselves igbo. anyway, either way i still envy them and I ain't ashamed to say it. I seriously wish my people were lucky enough to be like them and was carved out Nigeria the last time it was carved |

tonychristopher: Lets assume that ikwerre are from benin, which is a travest can you give us archeological and linguitic evidence of that notion, this is a smart age so we should think smart not foolishly, mind you that i am not disputing ikwerre migration either from igbo mainland or benin, which is not far but what i want is SIMPLE ARCHEAOLOGICALAND LINGUISTIC EVIDENCE
now let me give you how linguistic evidence work, some dutch came all the way from europe and settled in africa another continent, they inter married and have a variation of language which is AFRIKAANS and its a dutch language with african flavor, now another one is the igbo in Equitorial Guinea that sourjourned there centuries ago, till today they still maintain their pristine form of igbo and bear igbo names and that place is far,now another instance is the olukumi that is in asaba they migrated from yoruba land but have been igbonized yet go there today they still have yoruba lexicon in their igbo flavor...these are pointer
NOW WHAT IS IKWERRE LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL POINTER TO BENIN MIGRATION? pls dont tell us my papa say, one old man said, we are in an intelligent age, please give us some scientific ,archeological, cultural or even linguistical fact or pointer to this IKEWERRE BENIN THING
Secondly why are you in IGBO thread does it point to affinity or curiousity maybe stupidity of complexitiy of psyche.....I am waiting for this evidence How did I know you were going to be the first person to fall for it? SMH!!! Anyway, carry on. |

Ikwerreboy: Igbos igbos igbos, hw mny times hv i called u dirty migrants, Ikwerre,Ekpeye and Ogba are not ikwerre, they have desame ancestrial root trace to benin,(Then Oba awure).. As for the Ndoni people they have never accepted been igbo, only time shall tell, we shall all be here and hear that Rivers state Govt deports 1,000 igbos back to south east under the administration of Gov-elect Chief Nyesom wike, Continue bringing hatred for your self..
Under the administration of former governor of rivers state Dr. Peter Odilli of Ndoni, you igbos organised a prayer for all ur igbo brothers to come together and pray, concerning there stay in port harcourt (ikwerre land) and other part of rivers state, that there is an evil plan to be carried out on the igbos in rivers state.
You were been invited to the state house of assembly for organising such a prayer with the concept of the state govt, which the so called Gov. Amaechi from ikwerre who have demolished thousands of ur shops, arrested most of you who tried to acquire ikwerre local govt identification because of our similarities in names, who claimed his igbo during buhari presidential campaign in abia state, because he knows how tribalistic you people are, was the speaker of rivers state house of assembly then.
Not only that, the ikwerre concil of elders summoned you igbos and asked you people to pay fine for organising such a prayer with out the concept of the ikwerre people who own the land you derive ur daily bread. just to name a few.
You igbos are group of confused people who have no direction, the most divided ethnic group in nigeria, you are so hated all over nigeria because of your silly attitude.
The ikwerres, ogbas, ekpeye, etche and Ndoni of rivers state are not members of your Ohaeze ndi igbo organisation i wounder why you idiots include us in your irritating igbo identity we dnt belong,
Below is a brief history of the ikwerre, ogba and ekpeye people of rivers state which the benin cultural heritage have confirmed it when they visited port harcourt (ikwerre land), Ogba and ekpeye you fools:
Chief N.M.T. Solomon (2004), native of Ikodu Ubie in Ekpeyeland, in his narrative draws heavily from the now authenticated written historical records delivered by various informed sources including “Eketu (Weber) of Ubeta, assumed to have lived for over two hundred (200) years as the oldest man in all Ekpeye, Ogba and Iwhnurọ hna (or Ikwerre), at that time (and) was asked to narrate the history and customs of Ekpeye people” as unfolded in his lifetime. Here is what he said, which has been validated by the accounts of the current generation through responses to our questionnaires and direct interviews thereby increasing our level of confidence on the data: Ekpeye, born in Benin, was the first of the three sons of Akalaka. While in Ndoni, he married a second wife to gain the love and favour of the people. The new wife gave birth to a son, which he named Ogba. Akalaka was still in Ndoni when his first wife, the mother of Ekpeye, gave birth to his third son called Ihruoha (Ikwerre) .
Proudly Ikwerre.. I was going to avoid the Ikwerre topic until I saw this wannabe post. Abeg, just want to warn una. This is nothing but a Yoruba guy third multiple ID. How do I know? When he first opened this ID, I asked him one simple question which a real Ikwerre would have known. It took this nigg@ nearly 30 mins to locate the answer and even then the answer he gave was wrong. I gave him another chance and he still failed the answer again and resulted to asking me to give him the correct answer Here's the link and see what transpired b/w me and this wannabe https://www.nairaland.com/1578450/not-biafrans-gov-amaechis-insults/25Believe this guy at your own peril. I already know some SE Igbo will but know that when others suspected who this ID belongs, this Ikwerreboy account went comatose since 2014. Only to surface recently to start another Ikwerre vs. Igbo thread. Pathetically for him, that one was equally ignored. I guess he decided to seek attention on this one. So I am going to tell una, Ignore the ediot and like earlier, he'll rest this ID and go back to his original one or seek another way for attention. Who knows, you can never predict that pathetic, disgraceful tribe. |

PerfectFortune: In as much as you have a point and I understand what u'r driving at, they are two different situation.
It is one thing to say the resources or funds generated in Lagos belongs to all Nigerians and another to say you want to rule/take-over Lagos because it's a no-man's Land.
The oil rich region belongs to some people and they have their indegenes even though the resources belongs to all Nigerians. You don't expect a Yoruba man for instance to say he wants to rule/take-over Rivers State because it's a no-man's land; it doesn't work that way.
The Oil rich region/ppl of SS are even given special preference when it comes to employment and benefits from oil. While they even seek for more in terms shearing formular and others.
Imagine a Yoruba group leader in Imo or Enugu saying he wants to have the same recognition as their first class King like Obi of Onitsha.
Resources may belong to all but rulership belongs to the people of the region (Indegenes). So why is it there's not one single SS with oil plots and right yet each oil plots in Nigeria either belongs to a Yoruba or Hausa. Those plots are in indigenous lands theregore, going by your logic should belong to ppl of those lands, not "foreigners" as you yoruba call it. |
