I had that issue with my 2010 corolla. The best scanner to use is the Toyota TIS. The culprit in own was the brake actuator. I simply replaced it like for like. Then it threw up another code, soleonoid valve stuck. It's on the gearbox valve body. Your problem is simple. It's related o the gearbox valve body. Have that serviced. replace atf with Toyota WS. But u may need alldata repair manual to get how to check each of the valves. Google ' corolla transmission lock up'

These guys have been battling with this stuff, and truth is I no longer trust their competence (at least in this area)

you need a very sensitive scanner that that pick even the smallest of fault. the small hand held scanner wouldn't be of much help. that gear is build to last 200k miles.

do not touch the gear just yet. Get the vehicle scanned with a top of the range scan software it should pull all the faults. i doubt the gearbox is the culprit.

Yeah, already had it scanned.
Serviced the box based on the report.

Still didn't work.

Don't quite remember the name, but the mechanics said it's a top ATF from Toyota for Toyota.
Completely drained the old and cleaned the whatever-part-it-goes-into before refilling.

Looks like changing the gearbox is the only solution; any idea what the price is?

No solution yet;

Gurus' opinions highly needed.

Anyone knows what could possibly be the problem?

Hey bro, i will strongly advice you scan the car but if need be, service the gear. Make sure the gear oil filter is removed and properly washed with fuel before replacement. Wish you luck.

I have heard people said they service the gears. You may need to take it to Toyota themselves, ask them of what may be the likely problem and run afterwards to local mechanics to guide them if you cant afford the company charges.

Thanks for your suggestion. I guess they're servicing it now. Each time I call they say they're still working on it

2009 Corolla automatic transmission

Was driving home last week when suddenly my car continued to rev up to higher rpms but withwithout any change in speed.
Parked and restarted the car and noticed that after the 2nd or 3rd gear the car wouldn't change gear but would keep revving up without change in speed.

Took it to my mechanic who suggested topping the ATF but I insisted on draining the old fluid and used a high - quality ATF to refill.

Unfortunately problem still remains.

The car has been with them since Friday last week and no solution yet, not sure the know what the problem is.

Car gurus please help; what could be the issue with the gear?
