Virtually everybody born before the invention of the internet must have heard the tale of a nonexistent football match between Nigeria and India grin that obviously took place in a parallel universe and somehow we got to hear the gory stories of that match. Though there are many variations of the story, every prevaricator seems to agree on a couple of facts about this fictional football match. Each storyteller agrees that; 1. This match ended with India scoring 99 goals and Nigeria scoring just one goal. 2. Nigerians where unable to kick the ball because the football kept turning to a lion (or something scary) to prevent them from playing the soccer ball. 3. The Indians later agreed that if Nigeria could score a goal, they would concede defeat 4. Samuel Okwaraji scored the winning goal and lost his life in the process. 5. FIFA banned India from soccer because they used black magic in that very game With the help of common sense (not that it was absent back then), quick access to information and the internet, every right thinking Nigerian has come to realise that such a story should be filled under “Blatant Lies”. Why Did This Story Thrive For So Long? Most people like to pass off this story as true with the fact that no one has ever seen India in an International Football Match. Since no one actually saw India participate in most international soccer games, this gave a little credence to the story. Another reason this lie could thrive for long was the fact that credible information was not readily available at our finger tips. It not like every Emeka, Audu and Ojo could visit Google in a matter of minutes and tell our ominous fabricators that they should stop spreading toxic lies. And to be honest we have a tingling feeling that this lie was concocted by an elder of a community because, let’s be honest who questions the words of the elders in Nigeria. Remember, what an adult sees sitting down a child will never see even if he consults Google, Siri or Cortana. The Element of Truth In This Story On the 12th of August 1989, Nigeria lost Sam Okwaraji. Sam Okwaraji was the player rumored to have lost his life in that game when in truth he died during a FIFA World Cup qualifying game against Angola in the 77th minute. He collapsed and died of cognitive heart failure. May his soul rest in Perfect Peace. AMEN So that is the only truthful thing about that story, the fact that a Nigerian player died during a football match. That’s it. The match was not against India, we did not lose the match and as you must have guessed, and there were no lions either.

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos has hit back at those mocking Buhari’s educational qualifications by stressing that President Goodluck Jonathan’s and his Vice, Namadi Sambo’s high academic qualifications have not reflected in the policies they introduced since assuming office. Fashola, who made the statement at the All Progressives Party (APC) rally held in Ikorodu, lamented that the country has failed to progress despite their high academic qualifications. Hear him: We need someone who could address our challenges. We prayed that if we have someone who has degree, he will be able to develop the country. And when the current president, a Ph.D holder, assumed office, we rejoiced that the country will improve. Rather than implement policies that would improve the standard of living of the citizens, we were having regression Also, his Vice-President is an architect but he cannot construct roads. But it is sad that a lawyer is the Commissioner for Works in Edo State and he has constructed several roads. In Ogun State, the Commissioner for Works is an architect and he has built several roads. So, let’s ask Sambo, the Vice President what has he done for the nation since he assumed office. All he (Sambo) could do was to inform the President that people are leaving Lagos because of tax regime. And I want everyone to ask the Vice President if the number of vehicles coming into Lagos has reduced.”

How to unlock an iPhone SIM not provisioned Some iPhones are easier to unlock than others, depending on the carrier and the phone's circumstances. Your mobile phone provider may be able to unlock the phone for free, and this is more likely if your iPhone's original contract has ended. However, it's trickier to get your iPhone unlocked if your contract is still valid. Unlocking your iPhone is completely legal if you purchased the device unsubsidised of have finished paying for your contract. However, if you're still paying for your contract, you technically don't own the iPhone yet, so you really should check with your carrier before unlocking it. Of course, not every iPhone needs unlocking. Most of the iPhones Apple sells in the UK work on all networks. It's the iPhones that you have purchased from a carrier that are more likely to be locked to that network. You'll discover that your iPhone has been locked to a particular network if you insert a SIM card from another network into the iPhone and attempt to make a call. If it doesn't work, it's likely that your iPhone is locked to your network. Don't forget that the iPhone 4S uses a MicroSIM, which is bigger than the iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, and iPhone 6 so be sure you're using the correct sized SIM. See: iPhone 5s vs iPhone 5C comparison review. Here's a list of popular UK carriers and how to go about getting your iPhone unlocked by them: O2 requires you to fill out an online form to unlock your iPhone. Three also has an online form to allow you to unlock your iPhone. Virgin Mobile: Call 780 from the iPhone or 0345 6000 789 from any other phone Tesco: Tesco says it will only provide you with a code to unlock your iPhone if you've been with the carrier for 12 months or if you've completed your contract. If that's you, you'll need to call 0800 0321 320 EE (including Orange and T-Mobile): To unlock your EE iPhone, you'll need to have had your account for at least six months, and you'll need to have paid all of your bills to date. EE says it'll take up to 20 days to unlock your iPhone, and it'll cost you £20.42. If you're happy with that, you'll need to fill out the online form. Vodafone: Vodafone charges a fee of £19.99 to unlock your iPhone, which you can do by filling out its online form. The carrier says it could take 7-10 days. See also: iPhone 5s vs iPhone 6 comparison review What to do once your iPhone has been unlocked When your carrier has agreed to unlock your iPhone and has processed your request, you'll need to replace the old SIM card with a SIM card of the carrier you wish to change to. Make sure your iPhone is off when you do this, and when your turn your iPhone back on it will talk you through any further updates that may be required. If you don't have the original SIM card but have requested for your iPhone to be unlocked by the original carrier, you'll need to reset your device. Make sure you back up your iPhone by connecting it to your computer and using iTunes to perform a backup, and then completely reset your device by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Everything will be wiped from your iPhone following this process, so backing up your iPhone is EXTREMELY important to do first. You can now complete the setup assistant on your iPhone and restore your iPhone from the backup you created. Insert your new SIM card. This should mean that your iPhone is now unlocked. You don't have to go through your carrier to unlock your iPhone, though we think it's better if you can. If that's not possible, you can use an unlocking service. You might know of an unlocking service in a retail area local to you, or you can visit MobileUnlocked.com or OfficialiPhoneUnlock.co.uk. They'll charge you a small fee, and we'd recommend avoiding anyone who attempts to charge you more than £25 to unlock your iPhone. http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/apple/3523361/how-unlock-iphone-4s-iphone-5-iphone-5s-iphone-5c-iphone-6/ |

Smartphones are getting bigger and better, looking back into 2014, Here are this year’s top five. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus The iPhone got its biggest physical makeover ever this year, and Apple didn’t disappoint. The 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus is the standout of the two because it incorporates elements of both a smartphone and tablet, finally bringing Apple into the big-screen “phablet” league with Samsung. Think of the iPhone 6 Plus as a mini iPad Mini. It sports a drop-dead gorgeous screen (401 pixels per inch) that delivers significantly higher resolution than the iPhone 6. It also has one of the best cameras going, featuring optical-image stabilization — a first for Apple. Both phones’ cameras boast better low-light quality and Apple’s “Focus Pixel” technology for faster autofocus (Samsung uses a similar technology in the Galaxy S5). The 4.7-inch iPhone 6, no slouch itself, costs $100 less than the 6 Plus and maintains Apple’s one-hand rule: You can operate it with one hand, which is a challenge with the 6 Plus. Both phones continue Apple’s tradition of top-drawer physical design, fast silicon (64-bit A8 chip), a vast app store and a solid operating environment. Apple’s highly refined iOS 8 spans both the new iPhones and iPads. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 When the Galaxy Note was introduced in 2011, many observers were skeptical of its “massive” 5.3-inch screen. Now that size is pretty much standard on a smartphone and may even be considered on the small side for flagship phones. The Galaxy Note is considered the first commercially successful phablet. (But beware, Samsung. Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus has quickly become a major player in that space.) The 5.7-inch Note 4 is a technology tour de force, packing a Quad HD (2,560x1,440) Super AMOLED display, one of Qualcomm’s fastest Snapdragon processors and a stellar 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization that can go head-to-head with the iPhone 6 Plus. Other goodies include a removable back, 3GB of RAM, multitasking (called Multi Window), and the S Pen, which allows quick cut and paste of data on the screen. The S Pen now has double the pressure sensitivity of the Note 3’s pen, making it that much easier to write memos. Moto X (second generation) Moto X (second generation) is a good phone and a great value proposition: With carrier subsidies, it starts at $99. At a relatively low price, the Moto X offers a beautiful 5.2-inch display, fast silicon and as close to a stock Android experience as anything out there (which gets you Android 5.0 “Lollipop” before other vendors). Standout features include Moto Voice, a hands-free way to control the phone and ask questions, and Moto Maker, which allows customization of back-cover design and colors. The camera is good, but it falls short of the ones on the iPhone 6 Plus and Galaxy Note 4. Sony Xperia Z3 The Xperia Z series has not been worthy of flagship status until now. With the Z3, a genuine Sony flagship has arrived, boasting a great build (with waterproofing), a 20.7-megapixel camera, a dazzling 5.2-inch display and great battery life. The killer feature is its PS4 Remote Play, allowing PS4 gaming on the phone. HTC One (M8) The HTC One is a top pick not only because to its great design but because it’s offered on both Android and Windows. For Windows phone adherents tired of Nokia (and now Microsoft-branded) phones, the HTC One offers an enticing alternative. A doppelganger of the Android HTC One M8, it’s got the same premium metal body and a stunning display. It’s the best-looking of the Windows Phone 8.1 batch. http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2014/12/19/2014s-top-5-smartphones/

A new survey which shows countries with the top 8 most unfaithful wives in the world has surfaced. In the new survey gotten from IndianTvNews, it states the top nationalities of women who are prone to being unfaithful even while being married, according to their countries. The new survey showcased how regardless of marital status, s*xual orientation, or a committed relationship, women still in the real sense tend to be unfaithful. The new survey was conducted by condom manufacturer, Durex. A total number of 29,000 people in 36 countries were interviewed and the interview ranked Nigerian women as the most unfaithful in the world. All in all, 50-65% of husbands and 40-55% of wives have an affair before they are 40. Here are the top the 8 countries of most unfaithful wives according to IndianTvNews and reasons why: 1. Nigerian women 62% of Nigerian women are unfaithful. Recently Major Chitsiko, a soldier, committed a suicide after his wife cheated on him. The couple was estranged. Also in November 2011, Erelu Tola Solomon, a social elite in Lagos and Abuja, decided to ruin her 25 year marriage after having s*x with a Lagos businessman. 2. Thai women 59% of women living in Thailand admitted to cheating on their husbands. The rules seem more relaxed in Thailand than they are in the West. Many husbands even allow their wives to commit adultery. 3. British women A UNLV article on infidelity and extramarital affairs noted that Britain have cases at a rate of 42%. The country experiences a high rate of women cheating. 4. Malaysian women 33% of Malaysians are known to have cheated. 39% of the Malaysian women, in particular, are known to betray their marriage vows. It was also revealed that Malaysian men have on average 3 s*x partners. 5. Russian women 33% of Russian women are known to be cheaters. Interestingly enough, the adulterer is not the one to blame in Russia. The finger points towards the person who kindles the affair. The fingers also point to women and that has been a ‘century-old tradition’. 6. Singaporean women Durex also established that 19% of women in Singapore are known to be unfaithful. Singapore men are known to have up to 16 s*x partners, which explains why the country has 19% unfaithful women. 7. French women Women in France are 16.3% likely to commit adultery. Men are 22% likely. A Huffington Post article believes that France makes adultery mandatory – 93% of the population is committing it. 8. American women 14% of married women in US admitted to having an affair once during their married life. 54% of the married men did not know about their spouses extramarital activities. This comes in a society where 50% believe that adultery is morally wrong. Interestingly enough 61% of Americans believe that adultery should not be a crime. Source: informationng.com |
Rev. Libby Lane, 48, was announced yesterday as the first woman to become a bishop in the Established church. Her appointment comes just a month after church leaders made a historic vote to allow women into the episcopate. Ms Lane, who is currently Vicar of St Peter’s church in Hale, Greater Manchester, and St Elizabeth’s church in Ashley, Cheshire, was an outsider for the landmark Church of England job. She was not among the bookies’ favourites and has been a dedicated local clergywoman rather than a public figure. The only mention of the Ms Lane in a national paper until today was a single line in the appointments column of the Daily Telegraph back in 2010, when she had just been made Dean of Women in Ministry for Chester diocese. But yesterday she addressed the nation at a press conference in Stockport, fully aware of her role in the church’s history. Speaking from the town hall, she said the new job was “unexpected and very exciting”. She will be consecrated as the eighth Bishop of Stockport at a ceremony at York Minster in late January. “I am grateful for, though somewhat daunted by, the confidence placed in me by the Diocese of Chester,” she said. “This is unexpected and very exciting. On this historic day as the Church of England announces the first woman nominated to be Bishop, I am very conscious of all those who have gone before me, women and men, who for decades have looked forward to this moment. But most of all I am thankful to God.” David Cameron was among public figures from around the world who welcomed Ms Lane’s new job. The Prime Minister said: “This is an historic appointment and an important step forward for the Church towards greater equality in its senior positions.” The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd Justin Welby, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Libby has been appointed to succeed Bishop Robert Atwell as Bishop of Stockport. Her Christ-centred life, calmness and clear determination to serve the church and the community make her a wonderful choice.” Read more: Church of England to shatter ‘stained-glass ceiling’ Ordained as a priest in 1994, Ms Lane worked in parish and chaplaincy roles in Blackburn, York and Chester before becoming vicar of St Peter’s Hale and St Elizabeth’s Ashley eight years ago. She has no direct experience of the church’s upper echelons, but is one of eight clergywomen elected as a Participant Observer in the House of Bishops. As a married mother of two grown-up children, a keen saxophonist, cryptic crossword enthusiast and Manchester United fan, Ms Lane is a reassuringly ordinary parish priest. She met her husband when they were both studying at St Peter’s College Oxford and they were ordained at the same time in 1994. Daily Telegraph

Peter Lik Print Sells for $6.5 Million, Shattering Record for Most Expensive Photo Australian landscape photographer Peter Lik has taken the crown for most expensive photo ever sold. “Phantom,” the picture shown above, was sold to a private collector for a staggering $6.5 million. The record was previously held by Andreas Gursky’s “Rhein II”, which sold for $4.3 million back in 2011. “Phantom” was captured at Arizona’s Antelope Canyon, a slot canyon that’s popular among landscape photographers, and shows a beam of light resembling a “ghostlike figure” (hence the name). It’s a black-and-white version of a photograph that has also been printed in color with the title, “Ghost.” Lik also announced that the same buyer purchased two other photographs for $2.4 million and $1.1 million (“Illusion” and “Eternal Moods,” respectively), giving Lik four photos in the list of 20 most expensive photos of all time (he previously sold a separate photo for $1 million back in 2011).

The Election Petitions Tribunal hearing matters arising from August 9 governorship election in Osun State on Tuesday admitted the ballot papers used in the conduct of the election. The tribunal, headed by Justice Elizabeth Ikpejime, admitted the documents brought in sacks as evidence tendered by the petitioner, Senator Iyiola Omisore of the Peoples Democratic Party. However, he reserved ruling on their admissibility until the judgment stage. The tribunal had subpoenaed the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state to produce original ballot papers used in the 17 local government areas under dispute. The materials were brought in 10 pick-up vans on Monday and the lead counsel for the petitioner, Dr. Alex Izinyon ( SAN), called the United States-based forensic data analysis expert, Mr. Pius Bakare, who tendered the documents. Izinyon also tendered the photocopy of the subpoena issued by the same tribunal through the expert witness who was Petitioner Witness 38 in the case. He said, “I seek to tender in bulk the original ballot papers and the subpoena issued by the tribunal to produce the documents.” The counsel tendered four sacks containing original ballot papers from Ilesa East Local Government Areas. The two counsel argued that the content of the sacks was not known and Chief Akin Olujinmi (SAN), insisted that the sacks must all be emptied and the ballot papers used in hundreds of polling units be inspected one by one before he would know whether to urge the panel to accept or reject the documents. The tribunal appealed to the respondents to tender the documents in bulk, saying it would be impossible to open all the sacks and check each of the ballot papers used for the poll. After agreeing, Olujinmi, who represented Governor Rauf Aregbesola and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo ( SAN), raised objection to the admissibility of the documents. Olujinmi argued that the witness had no connection with the subpoena, which the petitioner wanted to tender through him and that the document was a certified true copy. The former Attorney General of the Federation also objected to the admissibility of the original ballot papers. He argued that the witness was not competent to tender them from the bar because he was not the one who authored them. Copyright PUNCH. All rights reserved. A former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Olugbenga Ashiru, on Saturday died in a South African hospital after a long battle with a terminal disease said to be brain tumour. He was 66 years old. One of the deceased’s brothers, Professor Oladapo Ashiru, confirmed the death to our correspondent on Saturday night. He said, “It is true. He died at about five minutes to 6pm today.” The Professor of Anatomy/Consultant Reproductive Endocrinologist said Olugbenga’s death was a great shock to the Ashiru family. “He was one of our illustrious sons; a gentle soul; a gentle man to the core; an ambassador extraordinary, who rose to the peak of his career.” He added that the family was proud of his performance when President Goodluck Jonathan appointed him as Minister of Foreign Affairs. The professor said, “He had been ill for some time. We still don’t know why he had the problem (illness), probably due to frequent exposure to sunlight or frequent use of telephone. “He recovered after a procedure and I was with him in South Africa in November 2013. He was full of energy and was raising fund for his church in Victoria Island. He was looking forward to getting back (to Nigeria). “I told him that he would still be of use to the country in a different capacity. He was supposed to write his memoir when he gets back. Unfortunately, he had a relapse. His family spent Christmas with him in South Africa and just a day before the date he planned to come back, he had a relapse.” President Goodluck Jonathan appointed Ashiru, who was said to have been nominated by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2011. He was, however, removed in 2013 in a cabinet reshuffle. Ashiru had been actively involved in the diplomatic face-off between Nigeria and South Africa in 2012 over the deportation of 125 Nigerians for not possessing valid yellow fever vaccination certificates. The stand-off was eventually resolved after Nigeria retaliated. Ashiru, while handing over, said he had succeeded in securing 22 key international appointments for Nigerians during his two-year stay in office. “I am leaving foreign ministry as a fulfilled man considering my achievements in just two years,” he had said. The deceased was born on August 27, 1948 in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state. The graduate of the University of Lagos was Third Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1972. He also served as Nigerian Ambassador to South Korea in 1991. He was Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, with concurrent accreditation to Lesotho and Swaziland, in 2005. Copyright PUNCH.

When we think of the world’s all-time richest people, names like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and John D Rockefeller immediately come to mind. But few would have thought, or even heard of, Mansa Musa I of Mali – the obscure 14th century African king who was today named the richest person in all history. With an inflation adjusted fortune of $400 billion, Mansa Musa I would have been considerably richer than the world’s current richest man, Carlos Slim, who ranks in 22nd place with a relatively paltry $68 billion. The list, compiled by the Celebrity Net Worth website, ranks the world’s 24 richest people of all time. The list advertises itself as the top 25, but 26 names appear in the list. Although the list spans 1000 years, some aspects of wealth appear consistent throughout history; there are no women on the list, only three members are alive today, and 14 of the top 25 are American. The list uses the annual 2199.6 per cent rate of inflation to adjust historic fortunes – a formula that means $100 million in 1913 would be equal to £2.299.63 billion today. Mansa Musa I ruled West Africa’s Malian Empire in the early 1300s, making his fortune by exploiting his country’s salt and gold production. Many mosques he built as a young man still stand today… If you’ve never heard of Mansa Musa I of Mali, you should at least know that he was the world’s richest man – ever! John D Rockefeller (industrialist, 1839-1937) $340 billion 4. Andrew Carnegie (industrialist, 1835-1919) $310 billion 5. Tsar Nicholas II of Russia (last Emperor of Russia, 1868-1918) $300 billion 6. Nick Cannonis single and speaking about his past…including information he shouldn’t be telling an audience on radio… like exposing the women he’d have s3x with! During a recent radio interview, Cannon was asked about the chicks he’d hooked up with before he got married to Mariah Carey. The ‘America Got Talent’ host made sure he answered the question with ‘the truth’. He said: “Yes [I have done things with a Kardashian sister]. And I always get in trouble when I talk about this but I always tell the truth so … The ones that are of age.” Huh?…”the ONES that are of age”? For real, Nick? Did dude just use plural on the ‘ones’? Does this mean Nick slept with Kim, Kourtney and Khloe? Because those are the ONES who are of age! Or… did Nick just throw a bombshell on radio? What do you think? |

It’s taken him 16 years as a pro, but Roger Federer finally has won all there is to win in tennis — well almost, AFP reports. All four Grand Slam titles — a record 17 in total — six ATP year-end titles, 23 Masters Series, Olympic gold and now the Davis Cup for Switzerland. The Olympic title of course was in the doubles with Stan Wawrinka in Beijing in 2008 and he has yet to match great rival Rafael Nadal and Andre Agassi as the only men to have won all four Grand Slam titles, Olympic singles gold and the Davis Cup during the course of their careers. But still — it’s an astonishing record for a player many consider to be the greatest of all time. The Davis Cup win was arguably the hardest of them all for Federer to win, involving as it does other players and doubles action. Asked to compare his feelings in winning Wimbledon for the first time in 2003 and what he felt on Sunday after supplying the point Switzerland needed to win the Davis Cup final over France he said, “You can’t compare. “When I won Wimbledon, it was a total shock, honestly. Davis Cup is something that I knew was possible at some stage in my career. “Of course, there was the pressure of being able to manage all this and make everyone happy with all the support we had for the team and everything. So it is a totally different feeling. “Also I was not alone on the court. This changes totally everything.”
