Thats his biggest problem. he is a coward.

Folks like to talk about IBB's corruption but for me thats not the issue because most Nigerian Politicians are corrupt.

My Problem with IBB is that he knew what was right for Nigeria and failed to deliver on them. He did the exact opposite of most of what he promised and even as Military head of state running Nigeria on Decrees if he could not get anything done can he now achieve anything in a democracy?

The man's greatest problem is cowardice.
You know, now that you said that, I recall that when Babangida was president in the late 80s, anytime he visited Lagos, there would be this long "no drive zone" along the entire Ikorodu road down to Western avenue. No vehicle moved until all the vehicles on his convoy passed. Military men would be manning the entire route.
And all those happen BEFORE Okar's coup.
I often wondered whether that was not tantamount to killing a fly with a sledge hammer.  undecided

Do they still do that today? There are too many things subsequent Nigerian presidents copied from IBB. Just wondering.

They should stop trying to be like IBB. They can't.

IBB had style, IBB was brilliant and would have made a legendary leader if only he had courage.
Believe me, I'm only beginning to come to terms with the fact that IBB may be a coward afterall.

Sometimes I think that Obasanjo is more courageous than him.

But lets be fair to the ladies. They did not sign up to be first ladies, theyy did not get elected nor did they apply to be first ladies. They only got married to a man so many years ago and their journey in life as a wife brought them to where they are.

I will rather question Jonathan's communication skills because he chose to be Nigerian leader. His wife only got there by default.
Yes exactly, they did not sign up to be first ladies and they should NOT be automatically.

There is nothing like "first lady" in the Nigerian constitution. There have been Nigerian presidents without "first ladies". This first lady madness started with Babangida and Ndidi his late wife. I can understand in their case because Ndidi (Mariam) was more than a woman. She was it!

So, every nnekwu okuko don't have to claim that title.
Obasanjo has more than one wife. When Stella died, he wisely decided that Nigeria should not have another first lady.
Like I said before, no be by force!

I am more concerned about Jonathan Goodluck's inability to make a coherent argument in English Language than Patience Jonathan's bad English.

I am ready to give the woman a free pass. But Jonathan's level of communication is very poor.
Bros I know say you want Duke for president.  grin grin

It's all good though. I feel you. If Jonathan keeps to his promise to level the playing field, Duke may well win.

I'd vote for him.  undecided

You need to spend some more time on this section . . . you'd soon get tired of repeating yourself. Its amazing how many people here argue on these boards about "federalism" or nigerian politics or its Geography and HAVE NEVER been to Nigeria before. The other day some were discussing on the Biafran war . . . most of them werent even born before the war and probably have no idea what Nnewi looks like.
I've seen my own share here, believe me.

What baffles me most is how someone can comment on a topic/thread without reading what others have posted on it before.

I ALWAYS read what others have said before commenting, and I always understand the topic well before commenting.

If a thread begins, and gets to about 20 pages without me commenting, I may never comment on that thread for good, because I would have to read all 20 pages before commenting, and may not have the time.

Nairaland is full of characters I tell you.

that's partly the problem with the politics section . . . too many people commenting on an issue they are not conversant with yet insisting on digging themselves into a hole.

What do you mean by "commenting on the issue surrounding the interview"?  undecided Do you mean you are blindly responding to the opinion of those who ACTUALLY did see the video?
Frankly I've never seen anything like this before.

And by the way, which English are we talking about here? Is it the one a Nigerian will speak and an average foreigner will ask him to repeat himself? Keep deceiving yourselves that you speak English as national language.

Why do you have to sit for TOEFl and IELTS if English is your national language and you are native speakers?
Ol boy na wa for you o  sad

So a simple "oh I misunderstood" would kill you?  huh shocked

you're making it up now as you go. I never insinuated such. I dont speak yoruba that excellently but i can still articulate a point without sounding like a retarded child. There are FAR MANY heads of states who dont speak English so well . . . they dont speak like they are addressing a gathering of 3 yr old orphans either.

Even if she were speaking hausa, its doubtful she could do much better. Not knowing what to say, not being smart enough to convey an intelligent opinion cannot simply be blamed on lack of fluency in a language.
Like I said already David, thanks a million.

agaba you really have no argument here . . . i get tired of arguing just to sound correct.

I'm sorry but i fail to relate what you are saying to what either myself or only truth are talking about. you seem to be talking to yourself. We are not saying that Russians dont speak worse English . . . the difference is that at least some of them can articulate what they have to say. Articulation has NOTHING to do with your fluency in a language, it is a matter of your own mental acuity.
Thanks a million please! cool
PoliticsRe: Dame Patience Jonathan And Her Poor Communication Skills by Onlytruth(m): 1:36am On Aug 04, 2010
Articulation has nothing to do with language. That is what interpreters are for.

Speak Hausa please! cool Let interpreters do their job.; and while you are at it, please talk sense, not gibberish.

O chairman sorry I can read and comprehend as well.

Look at the post I quoted.

' Exactly' and 'She should have saved some embarrassment' were your response to another person's post who suggested she should have used her native dialect.
I responded to that based on your inspiration.

Your latter line of thought is dislocated  from the former. Please spare me. Anu mpam!

@David,

so you do not have problem with the Russian or Chinese when they murder English? You Understand them because you choose to excuse them. But for a Nigerian like in any other thing, we set high standards for ourselves.

Let the Journalist interview her in her native dialect.

We are not native speakers even if English is our national language otherwise you would have no need writing TOEFL or IELTS exams for various international purposes.
Who is the cowardly goat here? huh

You wait for me to log out before sneaking back to poo. Goat.

Like I said before, if you cannot read, please move on.  cool

BTW here's my original quote:

She could have saved us some embarrassment. The main problem was that she was not articulate. She dabbled from no point to off point. She showed her level of intelligence. How she came to be a first lady beats me. Mind you, we don't have to have a first lady. When Obasanjo's first lady wife died, other of his wives were kept away from Aso rock.

PoliticsRe: Dame Patience Jonathan And Her Poor Communication Skills by Onlytruth(m): 12:57am On Aug 04, 2010
We don't have to have a first lady. All illiterate / semi-literate women should be kept far away from Nigeria's "first lady" seat. It is not a constitutional seat.

The guests in Turai's case kept emphasizing she is "Nigeria's first lady".

I was thorougly embarrassed after watching that Turai video. It says all you need to know about Nigeria.

I have said it before and I will repeat it:

PoliticsRe: Anambra PDP Loses Lawmaker (Mrs Uche Ekwunife) And 15,000 Others To APGA by Onlytruth(op): 1:40am On Aug 03, 2010
I heard some really bad things about her, how she secured the PPA ticket for the last gubernatorial elections in Anambra state.

In order not to assassinate her character without first hand proof, I won't go into details, but suffice it to say that she performed an "all night coup" by "settling" all the "stakeholders" using the biggest weapon she has.  lipsrsealed

I just hope she changes for real and launders her image accordingly. She needs to, and APGA provides a platform for that. I like her, and think that she genuinely wants to work for her people. All she needs to do is to manage her femininity properly and remain focused, because Nigeria is still a very sexist country where men don't give women their entitlements without demanding undue gratification, especially when the woman is beautiful.

So, I believe she needs to be mentored and guided through a decent political party to continue her career in politics and public service. She does not belong in PDP, PPA or AC. When it comes to immorality, frankly, there is no way anyone in his right senses would equate APGA with PDP.

So I say welcome to Uche once more!  cool cool cool

This people do not even believe in their selves,so how will people believe in them, they believe that party will save them, but who are they really, for me they have done nothing to be given a second chance, apga is no igbo party,a woman who moved from pdp to ppa, then back to pdp and now to apga,g bet you this woman will soon move again,
With Peter Obi still having another 3 plus years in office, anyone who joins APGA will have to work with a conservative Governor with strong focus on morality of leadership. These people cannot easily change what is on ground in APGA. If anything they will have to change to be accommodated in APGA.

So yes, they can move again if they encounter stiff moral oppositions in APGA.
PoliticsRe: Anambra PDP Loses Lawmaker (Mrs Uche Ekwunife) And 15,000 Others To APGA by Onlytruth(op): 6:10am On Aug 02, 2010
Next year's elections is becoming more and more interesting. This woman has her flaws, but I would welcome her into APGA with broad open arms. She can be reformed.
I think she is willing to work for the benefit of her people under a true progressive party.

Welcome home Uche! cool
