Proven reserves is just "one" of several categories of hydrocarbon resource volumes. The proven ones are those that investors are almost certain they can produce today and tomorrow and get good returns on investment.

Now there are others:

- Contingent resources
- Prospective resources

Those working in the industry will tell you that these two are more than a thousand times the volume of proven reserves in the world.

There's a subset of contingent resource volumes called "Contingent Resource Unclarified". If you know the definition of this class of hydrocarbon resource volume and how much of it exists across this planet earth, you will understand why I said you and your generation unborn will be long gone while people are still tapping into oil and gas for energy supply.

It means if that sole source of energy fails, the whole country would suffer an energy crisis. Countries design and energy mix according to their specific peculiarities. Perhaps you are right. But we deal with the facts. Germany is an advanced 1st world country that many Europeans and Americans cannot match their tech prowess. That said, these charts below tell us all something.

1. Renewables will basically be an addition to the power mix for most countries for several years to come.
2. When base power supply sources (coal, oil and natural gas) dips, strangely, renewable energy production also dips - there is a reason for that. Most of what drives these "renewables" depend on base power supply sources.
3. There will never be a situation in the world, where we can achieve 100% renewable power supply.

So, the "adventure" of going completely green is impossible. The best we can achieve is a world where we have a mix of energy sources - and that will definitely outlast you.
