buja – The Defence Headquarters has disclosed that some Boko Haram terrorists have begun to surrender with their weapons voluntarily following relentless onslaught by troops. This is contained in a statement posted on the DHQ website on Sunday. “Some of them submitted themselves and their weapons to the leadership of the troops in Konduga during a further campaign at the weekend. “As the heat on the terrorists continues, five terrorists surrendered on Saturday (Sept. 20) with all their weapons to troops at Konduga pleading for mercy.’’ According to the statement, other captured terrorists who refused to surrender have also been giving useful information on the subsequent plans of the group in an apparent effort to cooperate. The DHQ recalled that in the last few days there had been several attempts by desperate terrorists to gain entry into Konduga which were foiled by the troops. The terrorists’ move, according to the statement, is aimed at recovering the bodies of their prominent fighters who died in previous encounters in the area. The DHQ also said that its troops had recovered more weapons during mop-up operations while some of their terrorists’ vehicles had been destroyed. We at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations hereby send our heart- felt and deepest condolences to the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and other affected nations, most especially the families, friends and loved ones of the departed souls who lost their lives in the tragic incident which occurred on Friday September 12, 2014. It is our prayer that the Almighty God will console you and give you the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses. We also pray that God’s presence in your hearts and lives would more than supply their absence. We need no more to make us strong than to have Christ’s presence with our spirits. He is with us by His grace, which is the good will of God towards us, enlightening and enlivening us, sufficient to strengthen and comfort us, to support our soul and cheer up our spirit in all affliction and distress. We at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations believe that when the believer dies, he is delivered out of trouble. The believer’s conflict has come to an end; he is done forever with the trouble, sin and temptation of this world and goes into glory. He at last rests in the arms of his Saviour, Jesus Christ. Because of Christ’s death and resurrection, death to believers is not a period - it is only a comma. They do not cease to be but are only removed from one world to another. Death to a believer, therefore, is his release from the imprisonment of this world and his departure to the enjoyment of another world. Those who are born from above long to be there. The highway to Heaven starts from this side of death and the entrance is very easy to find because the Bible says whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13). Those who lost their lives in the incident died not in vain; they died martyrs of the Kingdom of God. As the Psalmist reflects, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints. (Psalm 116:15) While we grieve over the loss, we are comforted by the knowledge that we are one by Christ’s love. What can separate us from the love of Christ? “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39). This tragic event will not and must not be allowed to adversely affect or destroy the good relationship which has hitherto existed between us and our dear friends in nations across the world. On our part, we shall continue to pray for our countries and their citizens, particularly the relations of the affected ones for nothing makes us love a person as much as praying for them. There is no doubt that the rescue operation, medical treatment for survivors and other incidental matters came at a huge expense but this is immaterial compared to the lives affected by this tragic incident. We hereby express our profound gratitude to his Excellency, President Goodluck Jonathan, the First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan and Governor Babatunde Fashola for their highly esteemed support during these trying times. We also thank the security agencies, rescue agencies as well as our friends and partners worldwide for their prompt support, concern and prayers. May these moments prompt us to live each day as if it were our last for when we are prepared to die, we are prepared to live. Our prayer for you remains the same – that your faith in Christ Jesus should not fail. Though there may be reason to be troubled, Jesus said there are greater reasons not to be (John 16:33). Let us remember God’s everlasting promise to comfort all who mourn, provide for those who grieve in Zion, to bestow on them a crown of beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning and a garment of praise for a spirit of despair (Isaiah 61:3). Trouble may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5). To all, we greet you, Good morning. The Words of Christ: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3-10) You are always in our prayers. We pledge our unalloyed love to our governments and their citizens. We are together in the task of making our nations great and prosperous where peace reigns supreme. |

ABUJA—All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of exhibiting a shocking act of indiscretion by hobnobbing with an alleged Boko Haram sponsor, Ali Modu Sheriff, who is not known to have been investigated and cleared of the weighty allegation against him. In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party wondered what message President Jonathan was sending to his compatriots and indeed to the international community when he took Modu Sheriff along during his visit to Chad Monday to confer with President Idriss Deby on cooperation against terrorism. ‘’This action by President Jonathan confirms what the APC has always believed: That the President either knows more than he is willing to admit on the issue of those who are behind the Boko Haram insurgency or he is willing to sacrifice the battle against terrorism on the altar of political expediency. Either way, this action by the President is the height of indiscretion at best, or a palpable exhibition of callowness at worst. ‘’It also confirms our fears that Modu Sheriff was planted as a mole in the APC by his friends in high places, who are jittery about the birth of the party and would do anything to destabilize it,’’ it said. APC said the President could not pretend not to be aware of a report sent home by Nigeria’s Defence Adviser in Ndjamena, Chad, in 2011, detailing the suspicious activities of Modu Sheriff in Chad concerning alleged Boko Haram sponsorship and asking the Federal Government to investigate him. ‘’If this is a joke, it is one joke taken too far, especially at a time that Nigeria has been losing territories after territories to Boko Haram; at a time that the same Modu Sheriff has been fingered by another source other than the Nigerian Defence Adviser in Chad, and at a time that calls are being made for an independent investigation into the allegation that Modu Sheriff and former Army Chief Azubuike Ihejirika are Boko Haram sponsors. ‘’Or could it be the case of it takes a thief to catch a thief?’’ it queried. in a bizarre tale that illustrates how Nigeria is run, President Goodluck Jonathan arrived two weeks ago at a top secret meeting with the exiled Emir of Gwoza, the newly-named headquarters of Boko Haram’s so-called “Islamic Caliphate,” with no knowledge of the location of Gwoza, presidency sources at the meeting said. The Emir, Muhammed Timta, escaped after the militants invaded Gwoza on August 16 and took over his palace. He arrived in Abuja after first making his way to Maiduguri to escape further attempts on his life. His father, Idrissa Timta, had died in a Boko Haram ambush on May 30, 2014 as Boko Haram ambushed his convoy on his way to the burial of the Emir of Gombe. Shortly after Timta’s arrival in Abuja, President Jonathan sent for the Emir, who was accompanied to the meeting by a Borno Senator, Ali Ndume. However, to the utter shock of the Emir, President Jonathan did not know where Gwoza was located: Adamawa or Borno State. Presidency sources said silence enveloped the room after the President, apparently lacking basic research or a briefing by his numerous aides and security agencies, asked in condescending pidgin, “Where’s Gwoza sef?” Mr. Jonathan then promised to ‘liberate’ Gwoza after Senator Ndume told him Gwoza was his home town and that it is located in Borno State. Gwoza remains under the control of Boko Haram after the sect took over the township in a raid and declared the town the headquarters of. the “Islamic Caliphate” in the Northeast of Nigeria. At least three attempts by Nigerian troops have been repelled by the militants. Several soldiers and innocent civilians were killed. LAGOS—The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday said it has not reintroduced charges on the use of Automated Teller Machines, ATMs as being speculated. The Director, Banking & Payments System Department of CBN, Mr. Dipo Fatokun, who explained this to Vanguard after his remarks at the meeting held by Nigeria Electronic Fraud Forum in Lagos, said: “It is not a reintroduction per se . You have to agree with me that when the amendment was made in November 2012, it used to be a N100 for any remote-on-us withdrawal that you did. And you know that the remote- on-us is when you as a card holder goes to the ATM of a bank other than your bank to withdraw cash. It was removed then so that people would be encouraged to go to other ATMs without paying for it. But the truth is that as we said in the circular on the Introduction of Fees on Remote-On-Us ATM Withdrawal Transactions recently, that N100 included the N35 that goes to the issuing bank, which has now been completely waived. The issuing bank does not make any thing, but in going to other ATMs to make withdrawal , your bank, that is, the acquirer bank incurs cost of N65 which they pay to the switches and the owner of the ATM that you are using. Continuing, he said: ”Between 2012 and recently when the review was done, it was discovered that people have actually turned ATMs into their personal purses because nothing is charged. Somebody needs N500, or N1000, he will go to ATM and withdraw, he needs N2000, he will go to ATM and withdraw, so that in a day some people can patronise ATM for up to four or ten times. That has created a huge cost burden for the banks that issue the cards. It was becoming discouraging to them. “So that is why we said, you can go to an ATM other than your bank ATM to withdraw up to three times and no charges would be imposed on you, but it is when you make the fourth withdrawal that you will pay the N65 that ordinarily your bank would have paid on your behalf. But of course if you go to your bank’s ATM, the issuer, for withdrawal you can withdraw as many times as you like without being charged. So, it does not discourage financial inclusion. You should bear in mind that when you talk of cashless regime, you are encouraging people to do their transactions electronically other than the use of cash. So it is a motivation for people to patromise the ATM. “ source http:// http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/08/weve-reintroduced-atm-charges-cbn/#sthash.vMZRrOVF.dpuf |
