A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and an aspirant in the 2016 governorship election in Edo State, Mr. Matthew Iduoiriyekemwen has insisted that if President Muhammadu Buhari must embark on probing the activities of past regimes in the country, he must not probe former President Goodluck Jonathan alone but extend it to 1999. President Muhammadu Buhari Iduoiriyekemwen, who spoke with Vanguard on Tuesday, in an interview in Benin said that while he welcomed the decision of the Buhari administration to probe Jonathan, it should not be a way to discredit the former President’s government. “There is nothing wrong in probing. What is wrong in probe is when it becomes witch-hunt. Yes, we are in a democratic regime, if President Muhammadu Buhari wants to probe the activities of past regimes, he should look at what has been happening in this country from 1999. “There has been a lot of maladministration and corruption, there has been a lot of stealing and wasting of government resources and if he wants to probe, he must extend it to 1999 till date,” he said. source http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/buhari-should-extend-probe-to-1999-pdp-chieftain/ |

The mother of an Australian executed in Indonesia has written a heartrending open letter to the country’s president, accusing him of “humiliating” the drug trafficker’s family and ignoring repeated pleas for mercy. Myuran Sukumaran, 34, was executed by firing squad with another Australian, Andrew Chan, and five other foreign drug convicts last week, sparking a storm of international condemnation. Australia withdrew its ambassador to Jakarta in protest at what it called the “cruel and unnecessary” executions of the pair, who were ringleaders in a plot to smuggle heroin out of Indonesia. Despite the global outrage, President Joko Widodo has stayed firm in his support for the death penalty, insisting that Indonesia is facing an emergency due to rising narcotics use. In an open letter addressed to “Dr Mr President, Leader of Indonesia and father of three children”, Sukumaran’s mother Raji described her son as “reformed” and “full of life, love and passion”, adding he had helped many other prisoners in their rehabilitation. “I just asked you not to order his death but instead you ignored me and many others,” she wrote. “I asked to meet you, to speak to you but once again you could not even have the courage to face our requests to communicate with you.” She said that in recent months she had watched Widodo “openly discussing the way in which he would die, parading and humiliating our family”. “I want to ask you to put your family in my situation,” she continued. “Think for a second, one of your children is tied to post, and men are lined up in front of them and the fear he would have felt, and then your child is shot through the heart,” she added. Raji Sukumaran finished the letter saying she would pray “for the many other men and women whose lives are in your hands, especially those on death row. “I pray that you will have the courage to look beyond the politics for they too have families who love them despite their mistakes.” The bodies of Sukumaran and Chan were sent home to Australia at the weekend, and are expected to be buried soon. While the executions have cast a shadow over the often tense relationship between Jakarta and Canberra, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has said he is confident ties will be restored. source http:// www.vanguardngr.com/2015/05/executed-australians-mother-writes-emotional-letter-to-indonesian-president/?hootPostID=87e173eb7b8717a4d17f80f33635c1b1 |

Fellow Nigerians, I thank you all for turning out en-masse for the March 28 General Elections. I promised the country free and fair elections. I have kept my word. I have also expanded the space for Nigerians to participate in the democratic process. That is one legacy I will like to see endure. Although some people have expressed mixed feelings about the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), I urge those who may feel aggrieved to follow due process based on our constitution and our electoral laws, in seeking redress. As I have always affirmed, nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian. The unity, stability and progress of our dear country is more important than anything else. I congratulate all Nigerians for successfully going through the process of the March 28th General Elections with the commendable enthusiasm and commitment that was demonstrated nationwide. I also commend the Security Services for their role in ensuring that the elections were mostly peaceful and violence-free. To my colleagues in the PDP, I thank you for your support. Today, the PDP should be celebrating rather than mourning. We have established a legacy of democratic freedom, transparency, economic growth and free and fair elections. For the past 16 years, we have steered the country away from ethnic and regional politics. We created a Pan-Nigerian political party and brought home to our people the realities of economic development and social transformation. Through patriotism and diligence, we have built the biggest and most patriotic party in Nigerian history. We must stand together as a party and look to the future with renewed optimism. I thank all Nigerians once again for the great opportunity I was given to lead this country and assure you that I will continue to do my best at the helm of national affairs until the end of my tenure. I have conveyed my personal best wishes to General Muhammadu Buhari. May God Almighty continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I thank you all. GEJ |

FULL TEXT OF LETTER FROM ALHAJI SHEHU SHAGARI TO BUHARI My brother, you have contested the Presidential elections 3 times in this country and in all these times, you have never asked me or my people at Shagari village to support your bid. It is very obvious why you can’t do that. You don’t have the courage after what you did to me. You truncated democracy with a dastardly coup and took away power from me. You humiliated me and made me to suffer, and you took away my opportunity to RULE Nigeria. You said you do not want democracy in Nigeria.. The same democracy you truncated, you are fighting hard to get with desperation and diabolical power. You have entered into unholy alliance with some known elements of disunity in the south but let me warn you. You will suffer hard in the hands of Tinubu and his political merchants who will use and dump you as they did to Nuhu. In 2011, you cried publicly when you lost election, and you made provocative and inciting statements that plunged this country into untoward unrest. You provoked our hot-blooded youths with war cries which erupted into post election violence, that brought Boko Haram into existence, over 500 innocent Nigerians died instantly, most of them youth corpers deployed from one of the unifying agencies of this country. Personally, I do not have a problem with your ambition. It is your arrogance that bothers me. If you cannot summon the courage to ask me and my family to vote for you because you know we would not, why do you think Nigerians would look kindly on your past record of destroying a progressing democratic institutions painfully put in place by some respected fathers of this nations like Awolowo and Azikiwe. No my brother. It is time to wake up from your delusion and do the needful if you still have some conscience. I am not writing this to you with vengeance intention. I am a practicing Muslim and we leave matters of vengeance to Allah. I write to you as a Nigerian, your brother and a statesman who is deeply concerned. Quit the presidential race now and save this country from the dangling sword of Damocles being menacingly wield by the crooks who surround you. This elections is not about you or President Goodluck Jonathan. It is about the unity of Nigeria which can only be assured by being fair. By this I mean, being fair to the people of Niger Delta. We can only do this by either re-electing Goodluck or substitute him with any of his kinsmen from the South- south as that can only count fair for a people who are entitled to 8 years in the office of the President. For the elders council in the north, we have come to the conclusion to work towards realizing that fairness. 4 years more is not eternity. It is not too much of a concession for us to make to move Nigeria forward as one indivisible and united country under one God. May Allah open your mind to see reason. God bless Nigeria. Abuja - There are indications that the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari will abandon his campaigns midway and travel abroad for medical attention. The planned trip is already raising concerns over his health status, reports NewsDay. Buhari is reported to have filled an online application for the US Visa to enable him travel to the country around January 26 for medical scrutiny. The planned trip has fueled suspicion that Buhari has been weighed down by the strain of the campaigns, which he had been undertaking in recent days. source http:// www.news24.com.ng/Elections/News/Buhari-may-travel-to-US-for-medical-attention-20150118 |

ABUJA – Leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Force, NDPSF, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari has again stated that desperate politicians from the northern Nigeria are ungrateful parasites who have not appreciated the south and especially the Niger-Delta for depending on their oil proceeds over the years. Asari’s outburst was a reaction to the comments recently made by the Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido that staunch supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan such as Asari and Chief Edwin Clarke were making incisive statements in their bid to secure a second term for Jonathan. Lamido had in his statements decried the candidacies of Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and General Muhammadu Buhari of All Progressives congress, APC. He was quoted as saying that the duo were capable of setting Nigeria ablaze with their ambition. Dokubo-Asari But reacting to the statement, Asari who was also the former national President of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC and Jonathan’s kinsman in a telephone chat with Vanguard said that the north was bleeding over their loss of political power. He stated that until the zone disabuse its mind from the mentality of “born to rule”, they would continue to meet stiff resistance from their southern counter-part. “The president will win. There is no other option. If they contest they are wasting their time. He who pays the piper will dictate the tune. We own them. We are feeding them. They are parasites. A beggar has no choice. In all religions, in Islam, every where… if you are a beggar, you will respect the one who gives to you. They are beggars and parasites.” source http:// www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/north-ungrateful-parasites-asari-dokubo/#sthash.G5FiHuI3.dpuf |
