PoliticsRe: A Nairalanders Plea To Introduce Sharia In Lagos State. by onyengbu1(m): 1:04pm On Dec 10, 2008
Check out these two posts

Lucabrasi: @post
i really don't see this as a huge worry even if it is introduced, from my understanding of sharia law it is only used on people who chose to not forced down anyone's throat, united kingdom which is one of the pillars of christianity has allowed sharia law as a bye law to be practices by the muslims in addittion to the english laws and is actually used in marriages and settling of other issues if you chose to be bound by it
Abu-Maryam:
Spiked
What we're sayn is there's freedom to religion on this world, regardless of the community sorrounding u. Islam did not say you shouldnt practice what you think is good to you and you should nt trangress. Some opine to stay reclusive in a grotto this is their own. Kin gane?
Who are you people deceiving when you say that sharia is not apllied to non muslims.

For example, Tell me, why are christians not allowed to sell alcohol in these sharia states.
PoliticsRe: Chief Obafemi Awolowo: National Hero Or Villain? by onyengbu1(m): 10:42am On Dec 10, 2008
@okunoba,

People like you are more of a tribalist than all the other who shout all over Nairaland cursing and hating other tribes.

You do yours with style leading others to believe your a natinalist.

I don't expect any yoruba person to say that Awolowo is a bad person because of what he did to igbos. Or to say that igbos were not wrong to have fought a war. It is not fair to expect such sympathy from any yoruba person.

However, one can easily summarise your long write up in three sentences.

1. Igbos caused their killings in the north before the war by killing other nigerians and the igbos living in the north celebrated the killings.

2. Ojukwu shouldnt have gone to war by calling for seccession even though only a few thousands of igbos were killed.

3. Awolowo did not do anything wrong by using hunger as a weapon against the igbos.

All these are easily deductible from all that long write up. Let me take these 3 items in short terms. Long write ups arent necessary.

1. The igbos you are referring to that killed other nigerians are military men who organised a military coup that was supposed to eliminate all the corrupt politicians in the country, igbos and non igbos alike. The plan was to kill all of them and we all know why the people that was to kill eastern politicians failed to do it.

So it is not igbos killing other nigerians. It was a military coup gone wrong.

2. You really think its not wise for Ojukwu to go to war but you did not think its bad for The hausa people to be killing igbos in hundreds of thousands and for Gowon to detract from an accord that was reached to stop the crisis and allow the killings to continue?

3.Strangely enough, you did not point out the war Awolowo  waged against the igbos after the war. May be that is what any igbo man might reallly want to know about your Awo.

Let me not continue, the post is getting rather long and i don't like long posts.

Nasarawa is just like Jos in ethnic structure.
Hausa people are minorities too.

Unless it is not the hausas that are formenting the current trouble there, I think they should be beaten up there too just like Jos.

Let them not take it to Keffi, I have good memories of the place and relatives too.

PoliticsRe: Is The North Xenophobic? by onyengbu1(m): 11:18am On Dec 07, 2008
@Luca,
We seem to have been agreeing on some issues lately but I'm afraid its time we disagree.
lucabrasi:
@onye ogbo
i get what your trying to say,incidents like the quran one is isnt political neither are some that are similar to it in nature i.e the woman using the pages of the quran to wipe her baby's bum, i totally agree with you on that one,what i am trying to infer however is that while these incidents might not be political,they are equally not tied to ethnicity, be totally honest here,if a yoruba woman was caught wiping her baby's bum with the pages of the quran or even an hausa woman do you think they wouldnt meet the same end??lets be honest they would,so this is not tribalism but religious fanaticm, I'm not justifying it but i am just urging us to break everything down and put them in their proper perspectives,
I just have to disagree that an hausa woman wiping a baby's bum will result in her death and others around her.  They will not kill the hausa woman or other hausa people around her. Its like killing themselves because one of them did the abominable. They wont do that. A yoruba woman  who did the same thing might suffer the same fate as an Igbo person but it all depends on where it happened.

politicians in the north are not using area boys to kill northerners because
1.they have a different mindset to their counterparts in the south in the way these things are dealt with, for instance how many northern politicians do you know or read in the papers have been assasinated?you rarely hear of such from them unlike the yorubas,ibo politicians.
That is not correct again because even though I might not have read in any paper, but there were words of how the former governor of the state I served in the north eliminated his opponent.

2.the hausas in the south east,south west tend not to get involved in politics or going ons in states they have emigrated to,you rarely find an hausa man or woman living outside their "SABO" or even socialising outside there or doing anything whatsoever unlike the ibos and yorubas who tend to spread out,involve themselves in socio political going ons no matter where they are, look at lagos for instance with joe igbokwe who is an ac party chieftain amongst other ibos, even in lagos u hardly find the hausas interacting outside their immidiate environment or "sabo" look at the ones changing money in local airport,they all hang out together,live in same areas e.t.c i was there when i went to nigeria in 2006 and was suprised to see a couple of yoruba and ibo s changing money as well
The hausas even in their home state don't get too involved in the politics. They believe that those people who govern them are good at it. And that's why sometimes you see them practising what I may call 'blind royalty'. They don't get so much into politics even in their home state so, it will be very strange to see them getting involved in other states.

Again, let me say it that I did not totally agree that it is politicians behind these riots. I have cited examples where riots have nothing to do with politics at all.

Even if the politicians are behind it, does that explain why the riots must result to northerners killing southerners (usually more of IGBOS).
Politicians can use thugs to organize a riot in the south but they cannot succeed in using these thugs to kill people en masse.
That is to say that northerners have the urge to kill southerners in them and thats why its easy for their politicians to stir up that urge in them and put it into action.
PoliticsRe: Is The North Xenophobic? by onyengbu1(m): 12:33pm On Dec 06, 2008
@Luca,

I have never disagreed that hiring thugs and assasins are despicable crimes. The only place where we will disagree is that its only politicians that use almajiris and other people that kill during northern riots.

Its possible that politicians might have used them on some riot occassions, we cannot even prove it. But what about the riots that are unconnected with politics like the Koran wiping etc? The fact is that either due to religious or ethnic inclination of the north, these riots are bound to happen.

It is not politicians. Why are politicians down south not using area boys to kill northerners in times of riot.

Just think about it.

i hear and understand you,BUT are any different from each other in a court of law??
let us assume they were both to be judged say by GOD for instance,will the hired killers be set free and the fanatics be condemned?you see the logic of my comments here?

the point here is that these religious fanatics have politicians behind them.
these assasins and thugs have politicians behind them.

in your own opinion,who do you think is the cause of the problem from what i have evaluated?
thanks for sayn I'm not stupid,but if you said i was,well my comments and the rationale for making them is clear for anyone to read and decide if i am making sense or not, i personally will not allow some politicians hiding somewhere dictate my mind set to me or play me and my emotions like playstation
None of these people will be set free by any court not to talk of the Almighty himself.

The point here is that the two crimes are unrelated. Why not compare the crime of Jos killing with that of deadly highway armed robbery afterall people die in it too.

You are obviously saying that politically motivated ethnic cleansing and politically motivated assassination is the same nature of crime. And I will like to disagree with you.

Tutsis assasinating a Hutu Rwandan President was not the same thing as the Hutus retaliating and killing hundreds of thousands Tutsi civilians.

The first one was an assasination while the second one was genocide.

Although both crimes have politicians behind them.
However, assassination and genocide was not obviously considered the same kind of crime if not why are the perpetrators of the assasination not being tried in a UN court.

You want me to point out the cause of the problem and thats where I will tell you that the solutions to the two problems are different.

People have to stop being greedy to stop hiring thugs to prove their political point and

Bigots/extremists have to stop listening to everything their religion or leaders tell them.

Now, as you can see,
These two solutions aint gonna follow the same procedure.
PoliticsRe: Is The North Xenophobic? by onyengbu1(m): 5:06pm On Dec 05, 2008
@lucabrasi,

I have tried elsewhere to convince you that hired assasins and group of northern religious bigots are not the same.

Lets look at it this way,

Assasins are different from bigot/extremist. The former kill for money bc the see it as their 'job' but the later kill out of hate.

An assasin will kill almost anyone but these bigots wont kill someone they consider to be in their group.

So Luca,
Stop comparing these things. They make you look stupid which i know you are not.

PoliticsRe: The Jos Tragedy: If I Were The Anambra State Governor by onyengbu1(m): 4:09pm On Dec 04, 2008
some northerners commited all these killings,there s a big difference between a group of thugs/almajiris using whatever excuse to kill other people and saying a whole ethnicity has a grnad plan to kill you all, that is a grossly erroneous statement to make and false
we have our own brand of thugs/almajiris in the south west,in ibadan under adedibu,in anambra and other south eastern areas, andy uba didnt kidnap the governor all by himself,he had thugs do it for him,the nba chairman didnt get assasinated by the police, thugs from the south east did so, the point I'm making here is that as far as politicians are concerned either they are ibo,hausa or yoruba they are all the same thing and will use machiavellian tactics to get whatever they want no matter how many people died, if these south eastern leaders loved their fellow ibos that much,how come they are so close with their fellow politicians from the north?
Dont ever compare assasins or area boys with the savages you have in the north. There are area boys and savages everywhere in the world but i am sure almajiris and the mob killers arent everywhere.

Assasins and area boys needs a personal (mostly financial) reason to kill or maim but those guys up north only need to hear that there is a riot going on.

Dont join everthing together just because you want to make every tribe in naija look the same.

We are not the same, those guys up north are pure savages.
