Hi. If you want to accuse me of something, maybe you should come out and say it. I don't know you so I wonder what you are implying.

AgricultureRe: Pig Farmers Lets Meet Here by ops(m): 10:24am On Feb 10, 2015
A piglet (weaner) should be between N2000 and N10,000 depending on the breed & who you are buying from.
In some cases, it might be more.
AgricultureRe: Pig Farmers Lets Meet Here by ops(m): 10:18am On Feb 10, 2015
It depends on breed. A fully grown pig can weigh anything from 60kg to 300 kg.

The leasing option is available.

Any hidden charges;
How secure is the said land;
How far from the main road, and what agric produce thrives in that area;
Documentation and geniueity
The land is as secure as humanly possible.
I don't know what you'd refer to as "main road". If you mean expressway, its far; about an hour plus.
Cocoa, oil palm, plantain, cassava & maize are abundant in the area. Some farmers also plant pepper, tomatoes & vegetables.
Other charges do apply; commission, survey (your choice but advisable), documentation.
BusinessRe: Sudden Drop In Price Of Palm Kernel Oil by ops(m): 10:47pm On Feb 08, 2015
Oil palm has seasons. While it fruits almost throughout the year, between late january (sometimes february) and july (extends atimes to august) oil palm fruits are in abundance so palm oil and all other derivatives or by products are cheaper.
AgricultureFifty Acres Of Virgin Farmland For Sale @ N80,000 Per Acre by ops(op): 4:42pm On Feb 08, 2015
50 acres of virgin farmland is available for sale in ladutan village (ona-ara l.g.a), accessible through ife-ibadan expressway or through akaran road.
It is right beside a river so it is good for irrigation.
It is a direct sale from the original owners, as such the buyer will prepare his/her documents which will be acknowledged by the village head (baale).
Interested parties can call me on 08099717054.

[quote author=martyns200 post=30077409]Brewery waste is no go area, better source for any of these feeds; cadbury waste, guiness waste, sona waste, nestle waste.any of the listed feed I mentioned should be added to pkc and also d use of wet blood and u can put in your listed compounded alongside to get a balanced diet for ur pigs. Moreso dunno if u deworm ur animals and treat them wit multivitamin, iron and others. Hope this helps

Guiness is a brewery, so is sona (breweries) so the by product from both of them is still brewery waste. The difference between brewery waste and what you have from cadbury or nestle is the percentage of each food component (ie protein, carbs etc). You can't write off brewery waste without knowing the individual's location.
Also, wet blood is dangerous as feed. In some advanced countries, its even illegal. Apart from the risk of contamination, there is also the possibility of it making your animals wild. Blood meal is the safer option.

Dear cornerstone,Have you read previous posts on this thread? If you haven't, please do. And if you have, I admire your determination but from experience ( and also that of many others documented here) I won't advice you to plant cassava unless you are into processing. Talkless of planting with borrowed money.

Ordinarily, I would say you should be more concerned with school for now but I knw circumstances can b different. Like I said, provide more info for folks who might b interested.

Hello,
I didn't mention garri because its cheaper in the south west or so than in the north.
We can actually work together to supply here in the north as well. I also observed that unripe plaintain is a very profitable in the north so I would like to partner with someone that can supply
@ Nixandastores;Unripe plantain bunches or as dried chips for flour?

Hello legsup and Jethro,
I have been a silent follower of this agric section since it was created and I have not commented on any topic. I'm also a farmer and I appreciate the work both of you are doing on this section.
One thing that will always happen in life is that we will always disagree. However, disagreement should not be this messy. Both of you are adults and should please respect your age and stop this. If there are disagreements, which are bound to be, we can resolve it without wallowing in dirts.
For those taking sides, well done. What goes around comes around.
Legsup and Jethro, please stop this. Let's be mature and civil in our correspondence. Going to court or threatening each other won't solve any issue. Nobody goes to court and remain friends afterwards.
We are looking up to both of you as a beacon and inspiration to some of us. Please do not disappoint us.
Let's allow sleeping dogs to be. Let's give peace a chance. Let's work together for progress.
I will get the contacts of both of you and we will resolve this. Please for now, both of you should stop commenting on this issue.
Best wishes of 2015.
Seconded.
Though I've never had dealings with Mr Yusuf, my previous conversations with Madam Jethro leave no doubt in my mind that this is a simple misunderstanding probably aggravated by circumstances.
I hope Amokemi has been able to calm your tempers. Both of you have a lot of followers on nairaland. Please don't disapoint them.
More grease to both your elbows.
@ Amokemi ; Blessed are those that make peace for they shall be called sons of God.

I need a 100 earners and growers
10 in sow
1 boar
All the above by February. We are starting construction by this january
I agree with Femu. 2 hardworking men will do, with proper management. Maximum shld b 3, and that is making room for the rate at which pigs will give birth. There factors to be considered though e.g level of technology involved in your housing/ feeding.

AgricultureRe: Land Clearing / Tree Uprooting by ops(m): 11:44am On Dec 25, 2014
If the land has been cleared, then manual uprooting should be more cost effective.
The cost per tree stump will depend on your location. Around my farm in ibadan, the average cost is around N750 per stump, but like I said, the price will vary from place to place.
Hope this helps.

I'm planning on going into pig farmer by. Next year.... The pens are already into construction. But I don't knw the costs of pigs yet, weaners, in-sow, gilts and others, I will also want to knw how/where I can get brewerers mash and its relative cost? Thanks in advance
Price of weaners depends on breed; from N2000 to around N10,000. Gilts & boars are sold for btw N280-N350 per kg.
Brewerers mash, depending on your location, you can get direct from breweries or buy from middle men (either wet or dried). Dried spent grain here in ibadan is around N11,000 per ton.

Porscheshek:
Pls @jethro2
how about the price of plantain n plantain flour too.
To the best of my knowledge, dried plantain chips or the flour isn't sold in most markets in oyo state, probably because of demand. Farmers that deal in it usually deal direct with those that bag.
You can get plantain in markets around farm areas @ around N300-N400 for a fairly big bunch. The price however varies with season.

Madam Jethro, I hail o.
AgricultureRe: Pig Farmers Lets Meet Here by ops(m): 11:15am On Nov 06, 2014
Over a week with no activity on this thread that was once so vibrant. I guess everyone has moved to the bbm group.
Can we have a discussion on alternative food sources for our pigs? While the price of carbohydrates (cassava/brewery waste) is more or less stable, the price of fats/oil (pkc) is getting quite alarming!

Mention has been made on previous pages of moringa leaves as a source of protein & vitamins. Also, cassava leaves contain about 25% crude protein hence (with proper care because of hcn levels) can be a good supplement .
Any options to P.K.C ?
AgricultureRe: Daily Price Of Foodstuff And Commodities Uploaded by ops(m): 6:52am On Nov 01, 2014
jeffmyson:
@Op I think some of your indicated prices are not correct market price of the commodities. Its either you are not able to determine the weight or the stated prices given to your was misinformed. For example you stated that a 50 Kilo of Garri Cost N3,500. This is incorrect as it translate to N70 per kilo which is not possible even if the producers get cassava at a ridiculous low price. I also find similar issues with Tomatoes and Soya bean.
I have been following your thread and all your prices are significantly understated as obtainable from esoko commodity index.

Please double cross and check the correct weight before you post!.
Thank you.
@jeffmyson. Personally, I can testify to the price of soyabeans. It is correct. Price of tomatoes fluctuates a lot in production areas so you have to take that into consideration. All things said, I think Jethro is doing a great job with this thread.
