DLA ANNOUNCES NEW CONVENTION TIMELINE, RELEASES NOMINATION GUIDELINES FOR ASPIRANTS

…As Party Calls for Mass Participation, Sets Fees, Eligibility Criteria Nationwide

ABUJA — The Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) has officially unveiled comprehensive nomination guidelines and a revised timetable for its nationwide congresses and National Convention, in what party leaders describe as a strategic move to deepen internal democracy and accommodate surging membership across the country.

In a public notice issued by the National Secretariat, the party confirmed that the decision to adjust earlier dates followed consultations with key stakeholders and regulatory considerations, alongside an unprecedented wave of new entrants into the party structure.

Under the new schedule, Ward Congresses will now hold on Thursday, May 7, 2026, followed by Local Government Congresses on Friday, May 8, and State Congresses on Saturday, May 9. Zonal Congresses are slated for Monday, May 11, while the grand National Convention is fixed for May 13, 2026.

The party leadership emphasized that nomination forms are now available to all interested and qualified members, with clearly defined fees across various levels. Ward positions are pegged at ₦2,000, Local Government at ₦5,000, State and Zonal positions at ₦10,000 each, while National Executive positions attract a fee of ₦50,000.

According to the guidelines, aspirants are required to make payments through the party’s designated bank account and submit proof to their respective State Leadership Coordinating Committees (SLCCs), ensuring transparency and accountability in the process.

DLA further outlined a dual application process, allowing members to either apply online via their personal membership profiles or submit manually through their SLCCs. Aspirants are mandated to clearly indicate the positions they seek and notify relevant authorities upon completion of their applications.

On eligibility, the party maintained strict but inclusive criteria. Ward and Local Government aspirants must possess a minimum of SSCE or its equivalent, while State, Zonal, and National aspirants are required to have at least an NCE or equivalent qualification.
Additionally, higher-level aspirants must have undergone or completed leadership training programmes organized by the party.

In a move to ensure credibility and grassroots support, the party also introduced nomination thresholds. Aspirants at the Ward level require endorsement from at least two members, while National Chairmanship hopefuls must secure a minimum of 100 nominators. The party warned that multiple nominations by a single member would render such endorsements invalid.

The DLA stressed that all participants must be duly registered members, comply strictly with party constitutional provisions, and actively engage in its ideological and leadership development programmes.

As part of administrative coordination, SLCCs have been directed to compile and submit comprehensive lists of Ward and Local Government executives via designated communication channels ahead of the convention.

Reaffirming its vision, the party stated that the ongoing process is geared towards building a disciplined, people-oriented political movement anchored on integrity, competence, and democratic ideals.

“The DLA remains resolute in its mission to raise principled leaders and strengthen democratic governance across Nigeria,” the statement read.

The notice, signed by the National Secretary, Barr. Munirat Adama, supersedes all previous communications on the subject.

Political observers say the structured approach and transparent framework adopted by the DLA may position the party as a formidable force ahead of future electoral contests, especially as it continues to attract a growing base of reform-minded Nigerians.

DLA TO OBI: WEIGH LEGAL REALITIES BEFORE 2027, SAYS FREEBORN GARVIN

By Our Correspondent

The South-South Zonal Vice Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Hon. Freeborn Garvin, has urged Peter Obi to carefully reassess his political platform options ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that unresolved legal and institutional uncertainties could undermine any presidential bid built on fragile foundations.

Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Garvin refined earlier concerns about the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), clarifying that the party’s current status stems from a Federal High Court judgment compelling its registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Case of NDC: A Legal Grey Zone

Garvin acknowledged that:

1. The NDC’s registration followed a Federal High Court ruling, which INEC has not yet appealed as of now.

2. However, he cautioned that the absence of an appeal does not permanently settle the matter, noting that:

. Appeal windows and legal manoeuvres remain possible, particularly in Nigeria’s fluid political-judicial environment.

. Political pressure—whether direct or indirect—could still lead to a late-stage appeal or legal challenge, potentially reopening questions about the party’s status.

He warned that such a scenario could create uncertainty close to election timelines, affecting candidate nominations, ballot inclusion, or even post-election litigation.

Concerns Beyond NDC

Garvin reiterated broader concerns affecting alternative platforms:

. ADC and APM Structural Questions: He maintained that parties like ADC and APM still face internal cohesion and nationwide structure challenges necessary for a competitive presidential race.

. Litigation Risks in Opposition Politics: Nigeria’s electoral history shows that court cases—even late ones—can significantly alter political outcomes, making legal certainty a key factor in platform selection.

. Institutional Pressure Risks: He alleged that ruling-party influence under Bola Ahmed Tinubu could shape administrative or legal developments affecting opposition parties.

Why DLA Positions Itself Differently

Garvin emphasized that the DLA remains:

. Free from ongoing litigation or registration disputes

. Organisationally stable, without factional leadership crises

. Strategically positioned early for 2027 mobilization

According to him, these factors reduce the risk of last-minute legal shocks that have historically disrupted candidates and parties in Nigeria.

A Strategic Appeal to Obi

Garvin urged Peter Obi to prioritize certainty over experimentation, arguing that:

“A viable presidential ambition must stand on a legally secure and institutionally stable platform. Any structure that can be challenged or destabilized midstream poses a real risk.”

He added that the DLA is open to Obi and his political allies, promising a platform that offers:

. Legal clarity
. Organisational support
. A unified national structure

The Underlying Message

Garvin’s updated position softens earlier absolutist claims about the NDC, instead framing it as a potentially vulnerable but not yet invalid platform—one whose future could still be shaped by legal and political developments.

As the 2027 race begins to take form, the DLA’s message is increasingly focused on a central theme: in Nigeria’s electoral environment, legal stability is as critical as political popularity.

Politics › Dla And The Urgency Of A New Political Consensus: Why Nigerians—and Her Elites—m by Optimistic2021(op): 1:06am On May 04
DLA AND THE URGENCY OF A NEW POLITICAL CONSENSUS: WHY NIGERIANS—AND HER ELITES—MUST PAY ATTENTION

Nigeria stands at a defining crossroads. Years of cyclical governance challenges—economic volatility, institutional fragility, security concerns, and widening inequality—have exposed the limits of traditional political alignments. At such a moment, the emergence of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) presents not just another party, but a proposition for renewal. The question before Nigerians, particularly the political and economic elite, is no longer whether change is desirable, but whether they are prepared to embrace a credible vehicle for that change.

The DLA positions itself as that vehicle.

A Party Built for the Moment

What distinguishes the DLA is not merely its rapid expansion across states and constituencies, but the clarity of its message: governance must return to competence, accountability, and people-centred priorities. While older parties remain weighed down by internal contradictions and legacy interests, the DLA has capitalised on a growing appetite among Nigerians—especially the youth—for a fresh political culture.

Its growth trajectory is not accidental. It reflects a deliberate strategy of grassroots mobilisation, stakeholder engagement, and policy-driven messaging. In an environment where political loyalty has often trumped performance, the DLA is attempting to reverse that equation.

Why Nigerians Need an Alternative

For the average Nigerian, the appeal of the DLA lies in its promise of practical governance. The party has consistently emphasised:
1. Economic Reforms Rooted in Productivity: Moving beyond rent-seeking structures toward real sector growth, job creation, and support for small and medium enterprises.

2. Security Through Institutional Strengthening: Advocating for coordinated, intelligence-led approaches and decentralised policing reforms.

3. Transparent Governance: Committing to fiscal discipline, open budgeting, and reduced cost of governance.

4. Youth Inclusion: Not as rhetoric, but as a structural commitment to leadership opportunities and decision-making roles.

In a country where public trust in political institutions has steadily eroded, such commitments—if sustained—offer a pathway to rebuilding confidence.

Why the Elites Cannot Stand Aloof

Nigeria’s elite class—political leaders, business magnates, technocrats—have historically played decisive roles in shaping the nation’s direction. Yet, their influence has often been criticised for sustaining the status quo rather than reforming it.

The rise of the DLA presents an opportunity—and a challenge. Supporting a platform that prioritises institutional integrity over patronage requires a shift in mindset. However, the long-term stability of Nigeria’s economy and polity depends on exactly such a shift.

Elites who understand the risks of continued instability—capital flight, weakened investor confidence, social unrest—must recognise that a credible reform-oriented party is not a threat, but a safeguard.

DLA and the 2027 Equation

As Nigeria looks toward the 2027 general elections, early signals suggest that the DLA intends to be more than a fringe contender. Its strategy appears anchored on:

1. Fielding Credible Candidates: Individuals with demonstrable track records rather than mere political name recognition.

2. Building Nationwide Structures: Ensuring presence beyond traditional strongholds to achieve true national spread.

3. Coalition Readiness: Engaging like-minded groups and reform advocates to consolidate influence.

4. Issue-Based Campaigning: Shifting discourse from personality politics to policy alternatives.

If effectively executed, these elements could position the DLA as a decisive force—whether as a leading contender or a kingmaker in coalition arrangements.

The Fastest Growing Political Platform?

While claims of being “the fastest growing political party” invite scrutiny, there is little doubt that the DLA has generated momentum. Growth, however, must be measured not only in numbers but in organisational depth, ideological consistency, and electoral viability. Sustaining this momentum will require discipline, internal democracy, and resistance to the very practices the party seeks to reform.

The Only Choice—or the Best Emerging Option?

To describe the DLA as “the only choice” may sound absolute, but it underscores a deeper sentiment: frustration with existing alternatives. Whether it ultimately becomes the dominant force will depend on its ability to translate promise into structure, and structure into electoral success.

For now, it represents perhaps the most coherent attempt at redefining Nigeria’s political space in recent times.

A Defining Decision Ahead

Nigeria’s future will not be determined solely by political parties, but by the choices of its citizens and the courage of its leaders. The emergence of the DLA signals that the space for new ideas remains open. The task ahead is to ensure those ideas are tested, refined, and, where credible, supported.

For Nigerians and her elites alike, the moment demands not indifference, but engagement. Whether the DLA becomes the catalyst for transformation will depend on how seriously that engagement is pursued.

Politics › Fubara And The Moment Of History: Why Rivers People Need Steady Hands Now by Optimistic2021(op): 12:59am On May 04
FUBARA AND THE MOMENT OF HISTORY: WHY RIVERS PEOPLE NEED STEADY HANDS NOW

In moments of political uncertainty and institutional tension, history has consistently shown that what a people need most is not noise, but leadership grounded in stability, continuity, and a people-first vision. Rivers State stands today at such a defining crossroads. The question before the people is not merely political—it is existential: who best preserves peace, sustains development, and protects the collective interest of the state?

Governor Siminalayi Fubara represents that needed balance.

First, governance must always be measured by its impact on the people. Since assuming office, Governor Fubara has demonstrated a clear commitment to continuity of critical infrastructure and social investments. Roads, healthcare access, civil service stability, and education funding have not been abandoned to political distractions. Salaries have been paid, essential services have continued, and the machinery of government has remained functional despite external pressures. These are not abstract achievements—they are tangible assurances of responsible leadership.

Secondly, Rivers State requires stability now more than ever. Political crises, if mishandled, can paralyze development and scare away investment. What Governor Fubara has shown is restraint and maturity in the face of provocation. Rather than escalate tensions, he has consistently chosen the path of law, dialogue, and institutional respect. This approach safeguards not only governance but also the image of Rivers State as a place of order and opportunity.

Furthermore, leadership must reflect the aspirations of the people, not the ambitions of a few. The emerging political culture under Fubara signals a shift towards inclusiveness and grassroots relevance. There is increasing engagement with local stakeholders, youth groups, and community leaders. Governance is gradually being re-centered around the people rather than elite control. This is the essence of democratic progress.

It is also important to recognize that continuity in governance is not weakness—it is strength. Abrupt disruptions in leadership direction often derail long-term projects and policy frameworks. Rivers people need consistency to fully realize the benefits of ongoing developmental initiatives. Supporting Governor Fubara ensures that these projects are completed, not abandoned midway due to political instability.

Critically, Rivers State’s economic future depends on peace. As a major economic hub in the Niger Delta, instability carries consequences beyond politics—it affects livelihoods, businesses, and federal relevance. A calm, focused, and people-oriented leadership is therefore not optional; it is essential. Governor Fubara has so far demonstrated the temperament required to maintain this balance.

Moreover, leadership is tested not in comfort, but in crisis. The ability of Governor Fubara to remain focused on governance amidst distractions is itself a testament to his commitment to duty. Rivers people must ask: do we need escalation, or do we need consolidation? The answer is clear.

In conclusion, this is not merely about supporting an individual; it is about defending stability, protecting development, and securing the future of Rivers State. Governor Siminalayi Fubara embodies a leadership path that prioritizes peace over conflict, people over politics, and progress over regression.

Rivers people must therefore rise above transient political sentiments and align with the broader interest of the state.
The time calls not for division, but for unity behind a leadership that is already working.

History will remember those who chose stability when it mattered most.

FUBARA’S SECOND TERM BID: A CASE ROOTED IN PERFORMANCE, STABILITY AND PEOPLE-CENTRED GOVERNANCE

In the evolving political landscape of Rivers State, leadership is increasingly being measured not by rhetoric, but by tangible impact, institutional stability, and the ability to stay focused amid turbulence. Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s first term presents a compelling narrative of a leader who has chosen the path of delivery over distraction, substance over spectacle, and service over self.

From the onset of his administration, Governor Fubara demonstrated a clear commitment to infrastructural renewal and economic connectivity. Signature projects such as the Trans-Kalabari Road have begun to unlock long-isolated riverine communities, bringing hope of integration, commerce, and development. The Port Harcourt Ring Road stands as a strategic intervention to decongest the city, improve mobility, and stimulate urban expansion.

Equally notable is the construction of the new State Assembly Complex—an institutional statement reinforcing the independence and dignity of governance structures. The Abua Bridge project has further strengthened inter-community access, while the ongoing transformation of Creek Road Market signals a deliberate effort to modernize commerce, improve livelihoods, and restore Port Harcourt’s historical economic vibrancy.

Beyond bricks and mortar, Governor Fubara’s governance style has been defined by uncommon focus and calm resolve. In the face of political distractions and orchestrated tensions, he has remained steady—prioritizing governance, salaries, pensions, and the welfare of Rivers people. This discipline has ensured continuity in public service delivery and preserved confidence in the machinery of government.

His humility is not weakness, but strength—an intentional leadership choice that has reduced political friction and fostered inclusiveness. By engaging stakeholders across divides and maintaining open lines of communication, he has shown that governance can be both firm and humane.

Rivers State needs continuity at this critical juncture. The foundations being laid—roads, bridges, markets, institutions—require consolidation. Disrupting this trajectory risks reversing hard-earned gains and delaying the full realization of these investments. A second term for Governor Fubara offers the opportunity to deepen reforms in infrastructure, expand youth empowerment initiatives, strengthen healthcare delivery, and scale up education interventions.

Moreover, his administration has demonstrated prudence in resource management and a commitment to transparency, gradually rebuilding public trust in governance. The peace and relative stability being nurtured must not be sacrificed on the altar of political experimentation.

In Governor Fubara, Rivers State has a leader who understands its complexities, respects its diversity, and is committed to its progress. His first term has laid a credible foundation; a second term will ensure that Rivers State not only builds—but finishes strong.

The call, therefore, is not merely political—it is developmental. It is about sustaining a vision that prioritizes the people, protects the future, and delivers measurable progress.

DLA HOLDS RIVERS CONGRESS, INAUGURATES NEW EXCOS AMID HIGH-LEVEL RESTRUCTURING

Port Harcourt, April 29, 2026 — The Rivers State Chapter of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) on Wednesday held its State Congress at the party secretariat in Port Harcourt, culminating in the swearing-in of a new State Executive Committee after a day of intense political activity and strategic decisions.

Delegates, party faithful, and observers began arriving at the venue from 10:00 a.m., while accreditation by the Congress Planning Committee commenced at about 12:15 p.m. The formal proceedings opened with the rendition of the National Anthem and the party anthem, followed by an opening prayer and the introduction of dignitaries.

In his welcome address, the National Chairman of the party, Barr. Samuel Memeh, represented by the National Vice Chairman, South-South, Hon. Freeborn Garvin, commended members for their commitment to building a formidable political platform. He emphasized the need for unity, discipline, and adherence to the party’s ideology as it positions itself as a credible alternative in Nigeria’s political space.

Goodwill messages delivered at the congress reflected deep concerns about Nigeria’s leadership trajectory. Dr. Morrison Abraham Morrison decried years of poor governance, noting that despite abundant human and natural resources, the nation continues to struggle due to self-serving leadership and entrenched corruption. He called on members to embrace a renewed mindset aligned with DLA’s ideology to fix the country.

Similarly, Pastor Israel Christopher charged members to remain steadfast, describing the DLA as a party with a clear mission to bring genuine change. He criticized existing political parties for failing Nigerians and urged members to contribute actively to the growth and success of the DLA at all levels.

In a major turning point during the congress, Hon. Freeborn Garvin announced the immediate dissolution of the outgoing State Executive Committee led by Mr. Dukwe Itari. The move, he said, was in line with the directive of the national leadership aimed at repositioning the party for greater effectiveness, unity, and internal democracy.

Shortly after, Hon. Garvin briefed delegates on the party’s guidelines and mode of election, announcing that the process would adopt a consensus approach.

Consequently, Hon. Tariduk Dukwe Itari emerged as the State Chairman, while Awzeta Cyril Awzeta was named State Secretary, alongside other executive members, ushering in a new leadership for the party in Rivers State.

The consensus arrangement was widely applauded by delegates, who described it as a unifying step toward strengthening the party’s structure and enhancing its political relevance in the state.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Hon. Dukwe Itari, expressed profound gratitude to members and stakeholders for their trust and support. He described the congress as a defining moment for the party and reaffirmed the DLA’s commitment to rescuing Nigeria from economic hardship, insecurity, and poor governance.

He noted that Rivers State faces a critical gap between leadership and the people, assuring that the DLA would bridge that divide by promoting responsive, inclusive, and people-oriented governance.

Also delivering his acceptance speech, the State Secretary, Awzeta Cyril Awzeta, thanked delegates for the confidence reposed in him and pledged unwavering dedication to the ideals of the party.

He said:
"Today marks not just a personal milestone, but a collective responsibility to build a stronger and more organized DLA in Rivers State. As Secretary, I will ensure effective coordination, transparency, and communication within the party structure. Together with the Chairman and the entire executive, we will work tirelessly to deepen grassroots mobilization, strengthen internal democracy, and position our party as the true voice of the people. I call on all members to remain united, disciplined, and committed to the vision of a better Rivers State and a greater Nigeria."

The congress also featured the presentation and adoption of resolutions. A motion for the adoption of the congress resolutions was moved and duly seconded by delegates, receiving overwhelming approval through a voice vote.

Key resolutions adopted include a commitment to party unity, expansion of grassroots structures, aggressive membership drive, and preparation for future electoral contests.

The event concluded with the formal swearing-in of the newly elected State Executive Committee amid cheers and renewed optimism among party members.

The 2026 DLA Rivers State Congress is widely seen as a significant step in consolidating the party’s presence in the state and reinforcing its readiness to play a major role in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

DLA Chairman: “We Are Here to Rewrite Nigeria’s Democratic History”

The National Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) has reaffirmed the party’s mission to reshape Nigeria’s democratic landscape, declaring that the DLA is committed to restoring the core principles upon which the nation’s democracy was founded.

Speaking during an interview on The Big Talk yesterday, the Chairman delivered a strong message about the party’s vision and long-term objectives.

“The DLA has come to redeem the democratic principles that existed in Nigeria. What that simply means is that the DLA is here to rewrite the history of the country."

The statement reflects growing concern among political stakeholders about the perceived erosion of democratic values over the years, including internal party democracy, transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. According to the Chairman, the DLA was formed as a response to these challenges, with a focus on rebuilding trust in governance and political institutions.

He emphasized that the party is not just another political platform seeking power, but a movement driven by ideals and a commitment to genuine democratic reform. Central to this mission is the promotion of credible leadership, adherence to the rule of law, and the strengthening of democratic processes at all levels.

The Chairman also highlighted the importance of active citizen engagement, noting that meaningful change can only occur when Nigerians take ownership of the democratic process and demand accountability from their leaders.

Observers say the remarks signal a bold positioning of the DLA ahead of upcoming political activities, as the party continues to expand its reach and consolidate its structures nationwide.

As conversations around governance and reform continue to dominate national discourse, the DLA’s message appears aimed at resonating with citizens who are eager to see a shift in how democracy is practiced in Nigeria.

DLA SIGNALS 2027 READINESS WITH NATIONWIDE CONGRESSES, NATIONAL CONVENTION

The Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) has taken a decisive step toward the 2027 general elections, projecting strength, structure and nationwide readiness as it consolidates its internal processes and expands its political reach.

At the forefront of this renewed momentum is the party’s National Chairman, Barr. Memeh Samuel, whose recent participation at the Ibadan Summit underscored DLA’s growing relevance in national political discourse. His presence at the high-level gathering reinforced the party’s commitment to strategic engagement, coalition-building and policy-driven leadership.

Across the country, the DLA is currently conducting its Local Government and Ward Congresses, with State Congresses scheduled for today, Wednesday. These exercises are widely seen as critical to deepening grassroots participation, strengthening internal democracy and positioning credible leaders at all tiers of the party structure.

Party stakeholders describe the ongoing congresses as transparent, inclusive and highly coordinated, reflecting a level of organization that sets the DLA apart as a serious contender. From ward mobilization to state-level coordination, the party has demonstrated operational discipline and a clear vision for governance.

The build-up continues toward the National Convention slated for Monday, 4th May 2026, where key decisions are expected to be ratified, including the emergence of substantive national officers, adoption of strategic policy frameworks and finalization of the party’s roadmap to 2027. The convention is also expected to serve as a rallying point for members and supporters nationwide, signaling unity and purpose.

Political observers note that the DLA’s structured approach—anchored on grassroots legitimacy, leadership clarity and ideological direction—positions it as a formidable opposition force. The party’s growing presence across states, combined with its deliberate expansion strategy, suggests it is not merely preparing to participate in the 2027 elections but is actively positioning to win.

Insiders within the party emphasize that DLA’s focus extends beyond electoral victory to governance reform, economic revitalization and inclusive development. With a message centered on accountability, youth inclusion and national cohesion, the party is steadily gaining traction among diverse voter blocs.

As Nigeria moves closer to another electoral cycle, the Democratic Leadership Alliance appears determined to redefine opposition politics—transitioning from a peripheral player to a central force capable of contesting and securing power at both state and federal levels.

With its structures firmly taking shape and momentum building nationwide, the DLA is sending a clear message: it is organized, battle-ready and fully committed to shaping Nigeria’s political future in 2027.

FUBARA LAUDED AS ABUA-ODUAL–EMOHUA BRIDGE PROJECT IS COMPLETED

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Grassroots Mobilizers (GM) has commended the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, for what it described as a landmark achievement in infrastructure development.

In a press statement issued on Monday, the NWC praised the Rivers State Government for the successful completion of a multi-billion-naira bridge project linking Abua-Odual and Emohua Local Government Areas, noting that the development will significantly boost economic activities, enhance connectivity, and improve the standard of living for residents in the affected communities.

The Committee stated that the project stands as a testament to purposeful leadership and a clear commitment to grassroots development, adding that such infrastructural strides are crucial for sustainable growth across the state.

“Governor Fubara has once again demonstrated capacity and vision in governance. This bridge is not just a physical structure but a symbol of unity, accessibility, and economic expansion for the people of Rivers State,” the statement read.

The NWC further urged other leaders across the country to emulate such people-oriented projects that directly impact the lives of citizens, stressing that development should remain at the core of governance.

The Committee reaffirmed its continued support for policies and programmes that promote infrastructural advancement and socio-economic prosperity in Rivers State and beyond.

GRASSROOTS MOBILISERS (GM) BACK FUBARA’S UNITY DRIVE , TINUBU'S CONTINUITY AGENDA

The recent engagement between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the Southern Traditional Rulers Council is more than a ceremonial gathering—it is a timely intervention in Nigeria’s evolving political and socio-economic landscape. At a moment when national cohesion is under constant test, the Governor’s message of unity, vigilance, and collective responsibility deserves both recognition and reinforcement.

Addressing monarchs at the Galaxy La-Palm Royal Resort, Governor Fubara underscored the indispensable role of traditional institutions in stabilising communities and fostering grassroots development. These royal fathers remain the closest link to the people, and their inclusion in governance conversations signals a deliberate effort to make leadership more inclusive and people-oriented.

Equally significant is the Governor’s endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term. While opinions may vary across the political spectrum, the principle of continuity in governance—when anchored on visible reforms and infrastructural progress—cannot be dismissed lightly. From economic recalibrations to strategic national projects like the coastal road initiative, the current administration has laid foundations that require time and consistency to mature.

From a grassroots mobilisation standpoint, this alignment between state and federal leadership presents clear advantages. It fosters policy harmony, accelerates development, and strengthens investor confidence. More importantly, it sends a signal of political stability—an essential ingredient for growth in any democratic society.

Governor Fubara’s participation in the roundtable also reflects a deeper understanding of leadership beyond politics. By engaging traditional rulers, he is reinforcing social cohesion, cultural identity, and community-driven governance—elements that are often overlooked but remain critical to sustainable development.

As Grassroots Mobilisers GM, we view this development as a progressive step towards building a more united Southern region and a stronger Nigeria. Leadership is ultimately judged by its ability to unite, inspire, and deliver, and in this regard, Governor Fubara has demonstrated commendable resolve.

We therefore acknowledge and appreciate his efforts in promoting unity, supporting national continuity, and prioritising inclusive governance. We equally reaffirm our support for initiatives that advance peace, development, and democratic stability across Rivers State and Nigeria at large.

The path forward requires cooperation, consistency, and courage. On these pillars, Nigeria can indeed rise.

Amupitan Clears Self: Can a Judge Sit Over His Own Matter? Questions Trail INEC Chairman’s Conduct

In a development that has stirred fresh concerns over electoral integrity and institutional accountability, Mr. Amupitan’s decision to clear himself of alleged wrongdoing has raised a fundamental legal and ethical question: can a man be a judge in his own case?

The principle of nemo judex in causa sua—that no one should adjudicate over a matter in which they have an interest—is a cornerstone of natural justice. It is designed to preserve fairness, eliminate bias, and maintain public confidence in institutions. Any deviation from this principle, particularly in matters as sensitive as electoral administration, sets a troubling precedent.

The action attributed to the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), especially the chairman, has therefore come under intense scrutiny. Critics argue that allowing internal clearance without an independent and transparent review undermines the credibility of the commission, which is constitutionally mandated to act as an impartial arbiter in Nigeria’s democratic process.

Observers insist that electoral bodies must not only be neutral but must also be seen to be neutral. When allegations arise, the process of investigation must be open, credible, and free from internal influence. Anything short of this risks eroding public trust and fueling suspicion among stakeholders.

It is imperative that INEC leadership subjects itself to the same standards of accountability it demands from political actors. Nigerians deserve a system where justice is not only done but is manifestly seen to be done.

As the country inches closer to another electoral cycle, the need for transparency, integrity, and adherence to the rule of law cannot be overstated. The credibility of the electoral umpire remains central to the survival of democracy.

Yours,

Distinguished Comrade Nubor Optimist Goteh

FUBARA INSPECTS 14.5KM ABUA–AGBA-NDELE–EMOHUA ROAD PROJECT; GRASSROOTS MOBILIZERS HAIL GOVERNOR’S INFRASTRUCTURAL DRIVE

The National Working Committee (NWC) of Grassroots Mobilizers (GM), through the National Media Board, has commended the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, for personally inspecting the ongoing 14.5-kilometre Abua/Agba-Ndele/Emohua Road project, which features a 1.2-kilometre bridge designed to enhance connectivity and boost economic activities across the affected communities.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Director of the National Media Board of GM, Distinguished Comrade Nubor Optimist Goteh, described the inspection visit as a demonstration of Governor Fubara’s commitment to purposeful leadership, infrastructural renewal, and rural development across Rivers State.

According to the statement, the road project, when completed, will significantly transform transportation, commerce, and social interaction within Abua, Agba-Ndele, Emohua and adjoining communities, while also opening up new economic corridors in the state.

The group noted that the road would help to ease the movement of agricultural produce from rural farming communities to urban markets, reduce travel time, improve access to healthcare and educational facilities, and stimulate small and medium-scale businesses within the area.

GM further stated that the 1.2-kilometre bridge component of the project is particularly strategic, as it will help overcome longstanding challenges of difficult terrain and seasonal flooding, thereby ensuring year-round accessibility for residents, traders, transporters, and investors.

The statement praised Governor Fubara for what it described as his people-centered governance approach, stressing that his administration has continued to prioritize projects that directly impact the lives and livelihoods of ordinary citizens.

“Governor Fubara has shown through this inspection that governance is about supervision, accountability, and ensuring that projects are executed according to specification and for the benefit of the people,” the statement read.

Grassroots Mobilizers also commended the governor for sustaining infrastructural development across both urban and rural communities, noting that such projects will promote balanced development, strengthen inter-community connectivity, and support long-term economic growth in Rivers State.

The group therefore declared its unwavering support for the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, expressing confidence that his leadership will continue to bring progress, stability, and sustainable development to the state.

GM further called on relevant stakeholders, community leaders, youth groups, traditional institutions, and political actors across Rivers State to give their collective support and cooperation to the governor in order to ensure the successful execution of ongoing development projects.

The statement emphasized that development thrives best in an atmosphere of unity, peace, and cooperation, urging all citizens to rally behind the governor’s vision of building a stronger, more prosperous Rivers State.

The organization also offered prayers for divine wisdom, strength, and protection for Governor Fubara as he continues to pilot the affairs of the state.

“We pray that God grants His Excellency the wisdom, courage, and good health required to sustain his administration’s developmental strides and continue delivering democratic dividends to the good people of Rivers State,” the statement concluded.

RASG NORTH EAST: THE POLITICAL MACHINE STAKING ITS CLAIM AHEAD OF 2027

From Abuja, by GON

As the permutations for 2027 gather momentum, one political structure in Northern Nigeria is quietly but strategically building a war chest of grassroots influence — the Rotimi Amaechi Support Group (RASG), North East Zone, under the leadership and coordinatorship of Comr. Ishaya T. Jabs.

In a region often described as politically decisive and numerically intimidating, RASG has moved beyond rhetoric to structure. From Adamawa State, Bauchi State, Borno State, Gombe State, Taraba State to Yobe State, the group has entrenched its presence in states, local governments, wards, polling units and communities — a political lattice that signals seriousness of purpose.

A STRUCTURE, NOT A SLOGAN

Observers say what differentiates RASG from conventional support platforms is its emphasis on organization. Under Comr. Ishaya T. Jabs, mobilization has not been left to chance. The group reportedly produced and distributed over 10,000 Diaries , 15,000 jotters and 9,000 souvenir bags across the North East during the December outreach — a move seen as both humanitarian engagement and political branding.

Beyond materials, RASG has embarked on aggressive sensitization campaigns, town hall engagements and community interactions aimed at reintroducing the political credentials of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi — former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State and immediate past Minister of Transportation.

Political analysts note that what RASG calls “image laundering” in the North East is, in practical terms, a rebranding and repositioning strategy — highlighting Amaechi’s infrastructural footprint, administrative experience and national outlook to a region that demands credibility and competence.

THE ADC FACTOR AND THE 2027 CALCULUS

With the primaries of the African Democratic Congress drawing closer, Comr. Ishaya and his team have intensified stakeholders’ consultations. Meetings with youth groups, women leaders, professionals and community influencers are reportedly ongoing, as RASG seeks collaboration and partnership beyond traditional party lines.

Sources within the structure confirm that RASG North East has extended its advocacy beyond the region — building bridges in the North West, North Central, South East and South South. The message, insiders say, is simple: build early, build wide, build deep.

And in a political climate increasingly wary of electoral manipulation, RASG operatives insist that 2027 will not be a game of mere announcement of results for riggers. The North East, they argue, is politically awake, structurally organized and ready to defend its mandate.

“2027 Will Be Different”

– RASG North East Coordinator, Comr. Ishaya T. Jabs, Speaks After Observing AMAC Polls

In the aftermath of the AMAC elections in Abuja, the Coordinator of the Rotimi Amaechi Support Group (RASG) North East Zone, Comr. Ishaya T. Jabs, granted an exclusive interview, declaring that 2027 will not mirror the past.

Q: Comrade Ishaya, you were physically present in Abuja to observe the AMAC elections. What is your assessment of what you saw?

A: Thank you very much. I was on ground to see and observe what I call the rape of our democracy. What happened is a wake-up call to serious political actors. Politics is not about noise. It is about action, structure and loyalty to a cause. 2027 will be different.
Nigerians are watching. We are watching.

Q: As Coordinator of RASG North East, how prepared is your structure ahead of 2027?

A: Let me state categorically — I am not a politician who talks without structure. I have on ground across the six states of the North East geopolitical zone a formidable network covering 112 local governments, 1,208 wards, and over 21,000 polling units. This is not theory; this is a tested grassroots structure. With what we have built, delivering 1.5 million votes is not the issue. We can deliver three times that figure by the grace of God.

Q: What inspires your loyalty to your principal?

A: I thank God for placing in my political journey a leader like Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. He is not an accidental politician. He was Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly for eight years. He served as a two-term Governor of Rivers State. He was Minister under President Muhammadu Buhari for eight years. He was also a two-time Director-General of APC Presidential Campaigns.

This is a man who understands grassroots politics. A unifier. A bridge-builder. I am proud to stand with him.

Q: Some critics say political promises are often exaggerated. How confident are you in your numbers?

A: I do not exaggerate. I work with data and mobilization. From the 112 LGAs to the 1,208 wards and over 21,000 polling units, our coordinators are active. We are not seasonal politicians. We are embedded in communities. I repeat: I am not the kind of politician that will deliver 1,572,000 votes. With our structure, we can deliver three times the votes recorded in 2023 for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the North East.

Q: What message are you sending to your principal and supporters?

A: My message is simple: Action will speak. My principal will know he has a dependable structure in the North East. By God’s willing and Insha Allah, 2027 will mark a political shift. We are mobilizing, we are organizing, and we are determined.

Q: Finally, what should Nigerians expect going forward?

A: Nigerians should expect seriousness. 2027 will not be business as usual. We have learned from what we observed. Democracy must be defended with structure, discipline and commitment. And we are ready.

WILL RASG SHIFT THE EQUATION?

The question on the lips of political watchers remains:

Will RASG’s deep grassroots network translate into a formidable voting bloc?
Can Comr. Ishaya T. Jabs convert mobilization into measurable electoral advantage at the ADC primaries?
Will the North East become a decisive stronghold for Rotimi Amaechi’s national ambition?

What is not in doubt is that RASG North East has moved from passive support to active political engineering. Its layered structure — states, LGAs, wards and units — mirrors the architecture required for serious electoral contest.

In the unfolding chessboard of 2027, structures will matter more than noise. Strategy will outweigh sentiment. Mobilization will defeat mere declaration.

For now, all eyes are on RASG North East.

The political drums are beating.
The structures are tightening.
The consultations are deepening.

And as 2027 approaches, Nigeria waits to see whether RASG under Comr. Ishaya T. Jabs will transform preparation into political power.

Only time — and the ballot — will tell.

The meeting ended with renewed vows of solidarity, strategic planning sessions and a collective pledge to deepen grassroots structures in Abua/Odual and beyond.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of Grassroots Mobilizers (GM) has extended warm and resounding congratulations to the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on his well-deserved recognition as New Telegraph Man of the Year.

In a statement issued after an emergency leadership session, the GM NWC described the honour as “a loud and undeniable endorsement of purposeful governance, courage under pressure, and people-centered leadership.”

According to the group, Governor Fubara has, within a short span in office, demonstrated uncommon resilience, administrative dexterity, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of Rivers people. The Mobilizers noted that his leadership style—calm yet firm, strategic yet compassionate—has repositioned governance in Rivers State and restored confidence in public institutions.

“Governor Fubara represents a new face of transformational leadership—one anchored on transparency, inclusiveness, infrastructural renewal, youth empowerment, and economic stability,” the statement read.

The NWC further described him as a leader who has refused to be distracted by political turbulence, choosing instead to focus on delivering dividends of democracy across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state. From infrastructural rebirth to civil service reforms and strategic investments in education and healthcare, GM said the governor has proven that leadership is about service, not noise.

Grassroots Mobilizers declared unalloyed loyalty and total support for the Fubara-led administration, vowing to continue mobilizing at the grassroots to consolidate his achievements and defend the mandate freely given to him by Rivers people.

“We stand firmly with Governor Siminalayi Fubara. His vision is our mission. His success is the collective victory of Rivers State,” the group affirmed.

The NWC also commended New Telegraph for recognising excellence in public service and for identifying Governor Fubara as a shining example of responsible and impactful leadership in Nigeria.

“By conferring this prestigious award on our Governor, New Telegraph has once again demonstrated commitment to objective journalism and national development,” the statement added.

Grassroots Mobilizers reiterated that the award is not just a personal honour to the Governor but a proud moment for the entire people of Rivers State.

*GM KHANA LEADERSHIP CLOSES RANKS, PASSES VOTE OF CONFIDENCE IN PEPPLE, NUBOR, VOWS TO DEFEND FUBARA’S MANDATE*

The Grassroot Mobilizers (GM), Khana Local Government Area chapter, on Sunday, February 8, 2026, held a high-powered strategic leadership meeting, sending a strong political signal of unity, discipline and renewed grassroots mobilisation in support of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration and the broader democratic cause in Rivers State.

The meeting, convened to review the state of the organisation and reposition it for more effective political engagement, brought together ward leaders, ward coordinators, executive members and key stakeholders from across Khana LGA. It served as a platform to assess progress, address internal challenges and consolidate the movement’s grassroots structures ahead of emerging political realities in the state.

Addressing the gathering, the Khana LGA Coordinator of Grassroot Mobilizers, Distg. Comr. Optimist Goteh Nubor, commended members for their sacrifices, loyalty and resilience in sustaining the movement despite political pressures and distractions. He charged leaders to resist opportunism and warned against what he described as “the dangerous trend of disguising personal ambition and self-interest as politics.”

According to him, genuine politics is built on patience, loyalty, perseverance and availability, especially in difficult times. He stressed that moments of political trial are tests of character, adding that those who remain steadfast at such times are those who ultimately earn relevance and trust.

Comr. Optimist urged ward coordinators to return to their respective wards with renewed energy, intensify grassroots mobilisation and actively defend and promote the policies and programmes of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, which he said are already repositioning Rivers State on the path of people-oriented governance. He also directed that, where necessary, internal restructuring be carried out within ward executive councils to improve efficiency, discipline and performance.

He further cautioned leaders and members who abandon grassroots work to engage in endless complaints and blame games, insisting that political growth is earned through hard work on the field, not noise on the sidelines. “You cannot build influence by absentee leadership. Politics rewards those who stay, who serve and who endure,” he declared.

The Khana Coordinator disclosed that the National Convener of Grassroot Mobilizers, Hon. Norisia Wilfred Pepple, has issued a firm warning against pretentious, double-faced and double-stand leadership within the organisation. He quoted him as making it clear that GM will not condone disloyalty or political ambiguity, stressing that members must either remain fully committed to Governor Fubara and the GM family or exit the organisation honourably.

At the end of deliberations, the meeting unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of the National Convener, Hon. Norisia Wilfred Pepple, praising his courage, consistency and visionary leadership, which members said have kept the organisation focused, disciplined and nationally relevant despite political turbulence.

A similar vote of confidence was also passed on Distg. Comr. Optimist Goteh Nubor, in recognition of his firm, inclusive and grassroots-driven leadership style. Members applauded his capacity to mobilise across wards, manage internal differences and maintain the political direction of the organisation in Khana LGA. They described his leadership as pivotal to strengthening unity, restoring confidence and expanding GM’s influence at the local level.

In his closing remarks, the Khana LGA Patron of the organisation, Dr. Emmanuel Sangha, lauded the coordinator for his proactive and people-centred leadership, noting that it has significantly improved cohesion and discipline within the chapter. He assured the leadership of his continued support and urged members to remain united, focused and committed to the collective mandate of the movement.

The leadership further resolved to sustain regular consultative and review meetings across all wards to deepen communication, enforce accountability and continuously evaluate grassroots activities. Members reaffirmed their commitment to expanding membership through coordinated outreach, strengthening internal structures and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to advance development-driven and people-focused political initiatives across Khana LGA and Rivers State at large.

The meeting ended with a renewed resolve by leaders and members to deepen grassroots mobilisation, defend democratic ideals, and continue to provide solid political support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration, which they described as central to the stability, progress and future of Rivers State.

*GM KHANA LGA PAYS CONGRATULATORY VISIT, PASSES VOTE OF CONFIDENCE IN REAR ADMIRAL BAKPO (RTD.)*

The leadership of Grassroot Mobilizers (GM), Khana Local Government Area, acting on the directive of the National Working Committee (NWC), has paid a congratulatory and courtesy visit to its National Patron, Rear Admiral John Nicholas Bakpo (Rtd.), at his residence in Kaa Community, Khana LGA, Rivers State.

The visit was aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration and reaffirming the organization’s commitment to grassroots development and unity across Ogoniland.

The delegation was led by the Coordinator of GM Khana LGA, Distg. Comr. Nubor Optimist Goteh, alongside executive members and key stakeholders of the organization. Speaking on behalf of the leadership and membership, Comr. Optimist congratulated Rear Admiral Bakpo on his emergence as the Second Vice President of KAGOTE, the apex socio-cultural organization of the Ogoni people.

He described the National Patron as a seasoned, disciplined, and visionary leader whose enduring record of selfless service to Grassroot Mobilizers (GM), Ogoniland, and the Nigerian nation continues to inspire confidence, particularly among the younger generation. He commended Rear Admiral Bakpo for his consistent mentorship, fatherly guidance, and unwavering support for grassroots empowerment.

Comr. Optimist further declared a vote of confidence in Rear Admiral Bakpo, affirming that members of Grassroot Mobilizers (GM) Khana LGA repose absolute trust in his capacity to continue offering strategic direction and leadership toward advancing the collective interests of the Ogoni people.

In his response, Rear Admiral Bakpo expressed profound appreciation to the delegation for the visit and kind gestures. He applauded the leadership and members of Grassroot Mobilizers (GM) for their resilience, sacrifices, and commitment to community development.

The National Patron reiterated that KAGOTE, established in 1945, is a non-partisan socio-cultural organization founded to unite the Ogoni people, promote peace, and ensure stability across the region. He emphasized that KAGOTE remains the highest socio-cultural authority in Ogoniland, representing the collective voice and aspirations of the Ogoni people.

While acknowledging that political influences had, at certain times, affected the organization’s operations, Rear Admiral Bakpo stressed that KAGOTE remains fundamentally non-partisan—comparable in structure and purpose to respected bodies such as Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Ogbakor Ikwerre. He clarified that membership of KAGOTE does not restrict individuals from engaging in partisan politics and assured the delegation of his continued support for the activities and objectives of Grassroot Mobilizers (GM).

He further urged the leadership of GM Khana LGA to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to the organization’s founding ideals, while encouraging sustained collaboration with the National Convener, Hon. Norisia Wilfred Pepple, to effectively actualize the movement’s goals.

In his closing remarks, Elder Michael Nwiyegesi expressed gratitude to the National Patron for his warm reception and longstanding support. He appealed for Rear Admiral Bakpo’s continued guidance and called on him to deploy his vast experience, wisdom, and leadership influence toward strengthening KAGOTE and restoring the unity and collective strength historically associated with the Ogoni people.

The visit concluded with renewed assurances of cooperation and solidarity between Grassroot Mobilizers (GM) Khana LGA and its National Patron, as both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace, unity, and sustainable development across Ogoniland.

COMR. ISHAYA T. JABS: THE NORTHERN ARCHITECT & THE PACE-SETTING ENGINE OF THE AMAECHI VISION

In the vast, politically intricate, and culturally potent landscape of the Northeast, a campaign does not merely operate—it must be interpreted, woven, and earned. Here, amidst the resilient spirit of the people, theoretical strategies meet their ultimate test. And here, one man stands as the definitive conduit, the master translator, and the relentless pacesetter: Comrade Ishaya T. Jabs, the Able Coordinator for the Northeast.

He is not an administrator in an office; he is a force of nature in motion. Comr. Jabs is the embodiment of the Amaechi campaign’s core principle: that true power is built not from the top down, but from the ground up, through respect, understanding, and unshakeable resolve. He is the human bridge between a bold national vision and the local realities of the Northeast, turning complex policy into relatable promise, and grassroots energy into an unstoppable electoral wave.

The Pacesetter's Blueprint:

Where others see challenges, Comr. Jabs sees blueprints for victory. His approach is a masterclass in adaptive, intelligent leadership:

1. Cultural Command: He operates with the cultural fluency of a native son and the strategic acumen of a general. He understands that to win the Northeast, you must first speak its language—not just in words, but in gesture, in respect for tradition, and in acknowledgment of its unique socio-political fabric. Under his coordination, rallies are not mere speeches; they are cultural convergences. Door-knocking is not canvassing; it is respectful consultation.
2. The Logistics Maestro: The Northeast’s terrain is as demanding as its political landscape. Jabs orchestrates a logistical symphony that ensures the campaign’s heartbeat is felt in the most remote communities. From the bustling political hubs of Gombe and Bauchi to the vital grassroots networks in Adamawa and Taraba, his coordination ensures that message, material, and manpower are deployed with pinpoint accuracy and impeccable timing. He turns distance into an advantage, making every kilometer covered a testament to the campaign’s commitment.
3. The Trust-Builder: In a region where trust is the ultimate currency, Comr. Jabs is a master economist. He forges alliances not of convenience, but of conviction. He listens to community leaders, elders, youth groups, and women’s associations with a genuine ear, integrating their aspirations into the campaign’s framework. He doesn’t just represent Amaechi; he embodies the covenant—a promise that the voice of the Northeast will not be heard, but heeded.

The Trailblazer’s Impact:

Comr. Ishaya T. Jabs is a trailblazer in the truest sense. He does not follow worn paths; he creates new highways of political engagement. He has built a campaign engine within the Northeast that is:

· Resilient: Rooted deeply in personal relationships and community trust, making it impervious to the winds of trivial opposition.
· Responsive: Agile enough to pivot and address local concerns in real-time, ensuring the campaign is always relevant and resonant.
· Representative: A true mirror of the Northeast's diversity, ensuring every demographic sees itself as a stakeholder in the Amaechi project.

His leadership style is infectious—a blend of unwavering calm and electrifying passion that turns volunteers into disciples, skeptics into believers, and supporters into evangelists. He is the pacesetter because he walks ahead, not behind; he is first in the field, last to leave, setting a standard of diligence that becomes the culture of his entire team.

*In the grand orchestra of the Amaechi campaign, if the national strategy is the soaring symphony, then Comr. Ishaya T. Jabs is the consummate conductor of the Northeast movement. He interprets the score, commands the sections, and draws out a performance that is both powerful and deeply moving. He is not just running a campaign in the Northeast; he is building a legacy for it.

Comr. Ishaya T. Jabs: The Able Coordinator. The Northern Architect. The Unstoppable Pacesetter. Where he leads, victory follows.
