He assured the organisation of his administration's willingness to work hand in hand with the group, emphasising that his leadership would be inclusive, fair and transparent. The chairman also expressed his determination to lead the party towards the 2027 elections, stressing the importance of unity and collective commitment to the political aspirations of Ogoni and Rivers State. He welcomed all sons and daughters of Khana, including returning members, and assured them that his doors remained open. The vote of thanks was delivered by Elder Michael Nwiyegesi, GPSO Khana LGA Secretary and leader of Ward 18. The visit underscored a shared commitment to cooperation, inclusion and grassroots organisational development within ADC Khana LGA. HON. PIDOMSON REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO BUILDING A RIVERS STATE FOR ALL RIVERS PEOPLE The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Governorship Candidate in Rivers State, Hon. Sir Gabriel Pidomson (Ph.D.), has reaffirmed his commitment to building a safe, secure, and prosperous Rivers State as his aspiration to govern the state continues to gain momentum. Hon. Pidomson made this known during an interview with Arise TV on Saturday in Port Harcourt. The former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly dismissed insinuations arising from what he described as the weight of the acclaimed “Rainbow Coalition,” which he characterised as “Rainbow Confusion.” Dr. Gabriel Pidomson maintained that the ADC in Rivers State is growing stronger every day and expressed confidence that the party would deliver the Atiku/Amaechi presidential ticket overwhelmingly in Rivers State, while also reclaiming the state through the genuine coalition it is building with the people. He emphasised the importance of the 2027 election in Rivers State, describing it as a “war” in which the bullets would be the people’s ballots. Dr. Pidomson also elaborated on his programmes and ideas, explaining that the strength of his administration would be anchored on security and fundamental policies designed to lay the foundation for generational development and job creation, while strengthening institutions and ensuring that they effectively interact and complement one another. The ADC governorship candidate questioned why, despite the enormous resources generated from Rivers State, the state continues to be treated as an offshore environment where companies and businesses take their headquarters and major economic activities to Lagos and Abuja, while their employees come to Rivers State to work in the morning and leave in the evening. He called on the people of Rivers State to remain steadfast in their quest for change and in their support for his candidacy, declaring that there would be no going back in the journey. “I am not a transactional politician, and I will never back out of this race at any point,” Dr. Pidomson declared. MY POSITION ON PIDOMSON My position is rooted in Ogoni political representation, cooperation, equity and the democratic opportunity presented by the 2027 Rivers State governorship election. I recognise Sir Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Governor of Rivers State in 2027. ADC formally listed Pidomson as its Rivers governorship candidate alongside David Amapakaye Okumgba as deputy governorship candidate. As an Ogoni, I see his candidacy as significant because it places an Ogoni aspirant at the centre of the conversation about who should govern Rivers State. That does not mean that every Ogoni person must automatically support him, nor does it mean that political disagreement among Ogonis should be treated as betrayal. Rather, I believe Ogoni deserves the opportunity to seriously examine what Pidomson's candidacy represents—politically, historically and developmentally. Ogoni's will stand and vote their Son, His Excellency Sir Dr Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson under the plaform of ADC. My position is therefore not simply about “Pidomson because he is Ogoni.” It is about asking a bigger question: After decades of Ogoni participation in Rivers State politics without producing a governor, what does the emergence of an Ogoni governorship candidate mean for the future of political representation in the state? Some Ogoni organisations have publicly interpreted Pidomson's candidacy as an opportunity for greater representation, while also emphasising that he should be assessed as a candidate for the whole of Rivers State, not merely as an “Ogoni governor.” Yes, as the incoming, the awaiting swearing-in Executive Governor of Rivers State. WHERE I STAND I support the conversation around Ogoni representation. I support Ogoni cooperation rather than Ogoni-against-Ogoni politics. I support peaceful engagement with other ethnic nationalities in Rivers State. I support the right of Ogonis to critically examine Pidomson's candidacy and determine whether it reflects the kind of representation they have historically sought. Yes, in Pidomson we trust and he is eminently qualified, the very kind representation Ogonis long awaited. And, as a journalist and media executive, I believe the public conversation should also examine Pidomson's record, qualifications, experience, policy proposals and vision for the entire Rivers State. Yes, under Pidomson's administration Rivers will be liberated with a future. That is a position of political conviction and civic engagement, while recognising that every voter ultimately has the right to make an independent electoral decision. I am saying and appealing we vote for the liberation and future of Rivers State by casting and securing our votes for His Excellency Sir Dr Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson. So, Optimist in one strong sentence: “I stand for Ogoni political representation, cooperation and the peaceful pursuit of greater inclusion in Rivers State; I regard Pidomson's 2027 candidacy as a historic opportunity that deserves serious consideration, scrutiny and engagement—not blind loyalty, but informed political participation.” Ogoni should not abandon its historical aspiration for representation, but neither should representation become a justification for division or hostility toward other Rivers communities. OGONI 2027: BETWEEN A HISTORIC POLITICAL OPPORTUNITY AND THE DUTY TO SPEAK WITH ONE VOICE The “Sor-Ogoni” Moment: What the Pidomson Candidacy Means, What History Teaches, and What Ogoni Must Demand From Every Political Aspirant By Distinguished Comrade Nubor Optimist Goteh Media Executive & Publisher, Optimist News Network (ONN) There are moments in the history of a people when politics becomes bigger than an individual, a political party or an election. Such moments require reflection, historical consciousness and the courage to ask difficult questions. For Ogoni, the 2027 political season presents one of those moments. Sir Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson, a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, is the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for Rivers State in the 2027 election. Reports published by Vanguard in 2026 have identified his candidacy as part of the growing conversation around Ogoni representation and political inclusion in Rivers State. That fact deserves serious public discussion—not blind celebration, and certainly not blind rejection. The question before Ogoni is therefore not simply whether Pidomson is an Ogoni son. The bigger question is: What does the emergence of an Ogoni governorship candidate mean for the political future of the Ogoni people and Rivers State? That question deserves an answer rooted in history, facts, competence, accountability and the collective interest. OGONI HAS WAITED FOR THIS CONVERSATION For decades, Ogoni has produced politicians, academics, professionals, administrators, entrepreneurs and community leaders of national and international relevance. Yet the question of Ogoni representation at the highest levels of political authority in Rivers State has remained a subject of public discussion. Vanguard reported in June 2026 that Ogoni stakeholders were pointing to what they described as a longstanding representation gap and were linking Pidomson's candidacy to the question of political inclusion. Whether one agrees with every interpretation of that history or not, the underlying question of political inclusion is legitimate. A people cannot continually discuss development without discussing representation. A people cannot discuss justice without discussing participation. And a people cannot discuss the future without asking who sits at the table when decisions affecting that future are made. This is why 2027 has generated such intense conversation across Ogoni. BUT OGONI MUST LEARN FROM ITS HISTORY The painful lesson of Ogoni politics is that internal division can weaken even the strongest legitimate cause. History records that the Ogoni struggle became internationally recognised through the organised, largely nonviolent activism of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), with the Ogoni Bill of Rights articulating demands around political representation, environmental protection, cultural rights, resource control and social development. At the centre of that historic struggle stood Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni Nine. They were not fighting merely for personal political appointments. They were asking fundamental questions about dignity, justice, representation, environmental protection and the right of a people to participate meaningfully in decisions concerning their land and future. The execution of Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ogoni activists on November 10, 1995 became one of the defining chapters in the history of the Niger Delta struggle, generating international condemnation and an enduring debate about justice and accountability. That history should not be reduced to slogans during election seasons. It should become a lesson. THE DANGER OF USING OGONI AGAINST OGONI One of the most important questions Ogoni should ask itself in every election cycle is: Who benefits when Ogoni people are encouraged to fight one another? Political competition is normal in a democracy. Different Ogoni sons and daughters may belong to different political parties. They may support different candidates. They may hold different ideological positions. That is their constitutional right. But political disagreement should never become hatred. A candidate should not be rejected merely because another Ogoni person supports him. Equally, a candidate should not be accepted merely because he is an Ogoni son. Origin alone is not enough. The people must ask questions about competence, character, experience, programme, team, accountability, integrity, development priorities and capacity to govern. That is how an informed electorate protects itself from manipulation. PIDOMSON AND THE 2027 QUESTION Pidomson's emergence has already generated significant discussion among Ogoni stakeholders. In June 2026, Vanguard reported that the Ogoni Business Owners Association in America (OBOAN), in consultation with concerned Ogoni stakeholders, announced support for Pidomson's governorship aspiration and framed that support around political inclusion and the longstanding question of Ogoni representation. That is a reported position of those stakeholders, not a substitute for the independent judgment of every Ogoni citizen. The important thing is that the candidacy has opened a wider conversation about what Ogoni expects from political leadership. Those who support Pidomson should therefore be prepared to answer concrete questions about what his candidacy and proposed administration would mean for the people. What exactly is his programme for Ogoniland? What will he do about environmental remediation? What is his position on the future of oil exploration in Ogoni? How will his administration address roads, healthcare, education, employment and security? How will he ensure equitable representation across Rivers State? What institutional safeguards will protect public resources? How will he translate political inclusion into measurable development? These are the questions that should dominate the conversation. Not insults. Not rumours. Not ethnic antagonism. Not political blackmail. Not personality worship. OGONI MUST NOT CONFUSE UNITY WITH BLIND LOYALTY This is perhaps the most important lesson. Ogoni unity does not mean everybody must support the same political party. Unity means Ogoni people can disagree politically without destroying their common identity. Unity means that an Ogoni person supporting ADC should be able to sit with an Ogoni person supporting APC, PDP, NDC, LP or another political platform and still discuss the future of Ogoniland respectfully. Unity means political competition without communal hostility. Unity means allowing citizens to examine every candidate. Unity means demanding accountability from our own people just as we demand accountability from others. That is the kind of political maturity the sacrifices of the past should inspire. THIS SHOULD BE THE “SOR-OGONI” MOMENT The phrase “Sor-Ogoni” should not merely become another political slogan. It should represent a deeper awakening. An awakening in which Ogoni citizens understand that their greatest political asset is not the number of political appointments they receive individually, but their collective ability to negotiate intelligently, participate constructively and demand measurable results. If 2027 is described as an Ogoni moment, then it must also become an Ogoni accountability moment. Every candidate seeking Ogoni's confidence should answer Ogoni's questions. Every political organisation seeking Ogoni's support should present its programme. Every leader speaking in the name of Ogoni should be prepared to explain his or her position. And every citizen should have the freedom to make an informed political choice without intimidation. THE LESSON OF SARO-WIWA Ken Saro-Wiwa's legacy should not be remembered only through photographs, anniversaries and speeches. His generation left behind a political and moral question: What kind of future are we building for the people who come after us? The Ogoni struggle demonstrated the power of organisation, advocacy, documentation and peaceful mobilisation. It also demonstrated the enormous price that communities can pay when their legitimate grievances are not adequately addressed. That history demands that today's generation approach politics with greater wisdom. The next generation should inherit institutions—not merely political slogans. They should inherit development—not merely promises. They should inherit unity—not political bitterness. They should inherit opportunity—not perpetual grievance. THE TIME FOR POLITICAL MATURITY The call for unity has also featured in recent public discussions about Ogoni's future. Vanguard reported in January 2026 that comments surrounding Ogoni Day emphasised unity in pursuing justice, peace and sustainable development in Ogoni. That message transcends any particular political party. Ogoni's future cannot depend entirely on who wins one election. The deeper challenge is building a people capable of negotiating power intelligently regardless of who occupies the Government House. If Pidomson succeeds, Ogoni must demand accountability. If another candidate succeeds, Ogoni must equally demand accountability. That is democracy. The objective should never be: «“Our son must be protected from criticism.”» The objective should be: «“Our people must never be denied justice, representation and development.”» OGONI, THE CHOICE MUST BE INFORMED The 2027 election should therefore be approached with historical consciousness. Let nobody deceive the people with empty promises. But equally, let nobody deceive the people with empty propaganda. Let nobody demand political loyalty without presenting a programme. Let nobody claim to speak for all Ogonis without demonstrating broad consultation. Let no political actor turn Ogoni against Ogoni. And let no citizen surrender his or her constitutional right to independently assess candidates and make a choice. If Pidomson is presented as an historic opportunity, let that opportunity be examined seriously. If his candidacy is presented as a vehicle for political inclusion, let the claim be tested against his record and programme. If other candidates present themselves as alternatives, let them also face the same questions. That is how an educated and politically conscious people behave. OGONI IS RIPE — BUT THE PEOPLE MUST BE READY Yes, Ogoni is ripe for a bigger conversation about political leadership. Ripe for unity. Ripe for strategic negotiation. Ripe for political maturity. Ripe for development. Ripe for representation. Ripe for the opportunity to seek the highest political office in Rivers State. But political maturity means understanding that an opportunity is only truly historic when the people convert it into lasting institutional progress. The real “Ogoni time” should therefore not end with an election. It should begin with one. The dream should be bigger than the Brick House. The dream should be an Ogoni where children receive quality education, communities enjoy infrastructure, the environment is restored, young people find meaningful opportunities, institutions work and political representation produces measurable development. That is the Ogoni future worth pursuing through lawful, peaceful and democratic means. And that is the lesson that the sacrifices of Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni Nine should continually remind us of. Ogoni must remember its history. Ogoni must understand its present. And Ogoni must organise intelligently for its future. THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT 2027. IT IS ABOUT WHAT KIND OF OGONI THE NEXT GENERATION WILL INHERIT. Signed: Distinguished Comrade Nubor Optimist Goteh Media Executive & Publisher Optimist News Network (ONN) |
JULIET WAAZOR LABA AT A NEW MILESTONE: CELEBRATING A WOMAN OF LAW, LEADERSHIP AND PURPOSE RESCUE NYO-KHANA 2027 Time to Rescue Our Constituency. Time for Effective Representation. As Hon. Barr. Juliet Waazor Laba marks another year of life tomorrow, it is fitting to celebrate not only her birthday, but also the journey of a woman whose life continues to reflect professional excellence, resilience, community consciousness and a commitment to public service. A legal practitioner, Governance, Risk and Compliance Consultant and public policy advocate, Juliet brings to public discourse a blend of legal knowledge, governance experience and a passion for inclusive leadership. Her journey into politics has equally demonstrated courage and resilience. Despite the challenges surrounding the 2026 bye-election, she remained engaged with her constituents and continued to advocate accountable governance and sustainable development. Today, as she prepares to contest again for Khana Constituency II in 2027 on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), her political message is increasingly centred on issues that matter to the people — transparent governance, youth and women empowerment, quality education, environmental sustainability, economic development and effective legislative representation. CELEBRATING A WOMAN WITH A PURPOSE Birthday celebrations provide an opportunity to look back with gratitude and forward with renewed determination. For Juliet Waazor Laba, the road ahead is one that demands continued engagement with the people, listening to their concerns and translating her professional experience and public-service aspirations into practical solutions. As supporters and well-wishers celebrate her today, we salute her courage to serve, determination to participate and commitment to the people of Khana Constituency II. May this new chapter bring her greater wisdom, strength, fulfilment and renewed opportunities to contribute meaningfully to her community and Rivers State. On this special occasion, we say: Happy Birthday, Hon. Barr. Juliet Waazor Laba. May your new age mark the beginning of greater accomplishments and a stronger chapter in your journey of service. RESCUE NYO-KHANA 2027 Time to Rescue Our Constituency. Time for Effective Representation. Happy Birthday to a woman of law, purpose and promise. Congratulations, Hon. Barr. WHO IS HON. BARR. JULIET WAAZOR LABA? Why the Lawyer, Governance Professional and Advocate for Inclusive Leadership Could Be the Voice Khana Constituency II Needs RESCUE NYO-KHANA 2027 Time to Rescue Our Constituency. Time for Effective Representation. In every political season, communities are presented with choices. But beyond political parties, campaign slogans and electoral promises, the fundamental question remains: who is prepared, competent and sufficiently connected to the people to represent their interests effectively? For the people of Khana Constituency II, that question deserves serious consideration as the 2027 general election approaches. One name increasingly demanding attention is Hon. Barr. Juliet Waazor Laba, a legal practitioner, Governance, Risk and Compliance Consultant, public policy advocate and politician whose professional background has been shaped by governance, regulatory compliance, institutional strengthening and community development. But who exactly is Juliet Waazor Laba, and why is her emergence significant to the political conversation in Nyo-Khana? A DAUGHTER OF KHANA WITH A PUBLIC-SERVICE HERITAGE Juliet Waazor Laba, formerly known as Juliet Waazor Korsi, was born into the family of Hon. Letam G. A. Korsi, a former Chairman of Khana Local Government Area and an elder statesman in Rivers State. Her profile describes her as passionate about good governance, community development and inclusive leadership. This background is important, not because political heritage alone qualifies anyone for public office, but because it places her within a tradition of public engagement while her professional career provides a separate foundation upon which her political aspirations can be examined. And that distinction matters. FROM THE LAW TO GOVERNANCE Juliet Waazor Laba is not entering public discourse without professional preparation. She obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, attended the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2018. Beyond the courtroom, her professional experience has taken her into the broader world of governance and institutional management. According to her profile, she is a Governance, Risk and Compliance Consultant, legal practitioner and public policy advocate, with more than eight years of professional experience spanning corporate governance, regulatory compliance, enterprise risk management, corporate advisory and institutional strengthening across private and nonprofit sectors. For a legislative office, these are not irrelevant qualifications. A legislature is not merely a place for speeches. It is a place where laws are made, institutions are scrutinised, public policies are debated and the interests of constituents are represented. The ability to understand law, governance, institutions and public policy can therefore be an important asset. THE POLITICAL JOURNEY Juliet's political journey has already tested her resilience. She joined active politics through the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and contested as the ADC candidate for the Rivers State House of Assembly, Khana Constituency II, in the 21 February 2026 bye-election. Her profile states that although the party was excluded from the ballot, she remained engaged with constituents and continued advocating accountable governance and sustainable development. She is currently the ADC candidate for Khana Constituency II for the 2027 general election. That experience presents an important political lesson: elections are not only about what happens on the ballot paper. They are also about the relationship a prospective representative builds with the people before, during and after an electoral contest. WHAT DOES JULIET WAAZOR LABA STAND FOR? Her stated public-service agenda is anchored on issues that directly touch the future of the constituency: - Transparent governance - Youth and women empowerment - Quality education - Environmental sustainability - Economic development - Effective legislative representation These are not merely campaign vocabulary. For Khana Constituency II, the real test will be whether such broad objectives can be translated into practical legislative priorities and measurable outcomes. Her profile further states that through mentorship, leadership development and community engagement, she has empowered and mentored young people and women, helping them develop knowledge, confidence and opportunities to reach their potential. That emphasis on people is particularly important in a constituency where the future of young people, the participation of women and the strength of local communities must remain central to any meaningful development agenda. WHY “RESCUE NYO-KHANA”? The slogan “RESCUE NYO-KHANA 2027 — Time to Rescue Our Constituency. Time for Effective Representation” is, at its heart, a call for voters to examine what kind of representation they want. “Rescue” in this context should not be understood as a declaration that one individual can solve every problem confronting a constituency. Rather, it should represent a political commitment to renewed attention, stronger advocacy, responsible representation and a closer relationship between the legislature and the people. The House of Assembly representative is not a governor, commissioner or local government chairman. The office has specific constitutional responsibilities. Therefore, effective representation should be measured by the ability to make and scrutinise laws, participate meaningfully in legislative debates, raise constituency concerns, advocate for development and maintain a functional relationship with constituents. This is where Juliet's legal and governance background becomes part of the argument for her candidacy. A LAWYER IN THE LEGISLATURE A lawyer in the legislature is not automatically a better legislator. But legal training can provide useful tools for legislative work—particularly in understanding statutory provisions, interpreting legal frameworks, examining policies and participating in the law-making process. Juliet's professional experience in governance, risk, compliance and institutional strengthening adds another dimension. If properly deployed, those skills could help her approach legislative representation with an emphasis on accountability, institutional responsibility and policy outcomes. That is the promise voters should examine. Not personality alone. Not political noise. Not empty slogans. But capacity, character, ideas and the willingness to serve. THE CASE FOR A NEW CONVERSATION IN KHANA CONSTITUENCY II The 2027 election provides an opportunity for constituents to ask fundamental questions. What kind of representative do we want? Someone who is accessible? Someone who understands the law? Someone who can engage institutions? Someone who can articulate the concerns of women and young people? Someone who understands community development? Someone who can distinguish between political patronage and genuine representation? These are the questions that should guide the conversation. And on the basis of the profile available, Hon. Barr. Juliet Waazor Laba brings a combination of legal training, governance experience, public-policy advocacy and political commitment that deserves serious consideration. THE ROAD TO 2027 Politics is ultimately about service. The people of Khana Constituency II deserve a representative who understands that a legislative mandate is not a personal trophy but a public trust. Juliet Waazor Laba's stated commitment to transparent governance, empowerment, education, environmental sustainability, economic development and effective legislative representation provides the framework upon which her candidacy can be judged. But the ultimate judgment belongs to the people. They will determine whether her professional background, political experience, policy agenda and commitment to community engagement amount to the kind of representation they want in the Rivers State House of Assembly. For supporters of the RESCUE NYO-KHANA 2027 movement, however, the message is straightforward: It is time to place representation under scrutiny. It is time to demand competence. It is time to demand accountability. It is time to demand accessibility. It is time to demand a stronger legislative voice. And above all, it is time for the people to recognise that the power of democracy ultimately rests with them. HON. BARR. JULIET WAAZOR LABA: A CANDIDATE TO WATCH Whether 2027 becomes the defining political moment for Juliet Waazor Laba will ultimately be determined at the ballot box. But one thing is already clear: she has entered the conversation with a professional profile built around law, governance, compliance, public policy and community development, and a stated agenda focused on the welfare and prosperity of Khana Constituency II and Rivers State. The responsibility now is for her to continue taking that message to the people, listening to their concerns, presenting practical solutions and earning their confidence. For those who believe Khana Constituency II requires a renewed approach to representation, RESCUE NYO-KHANA 2027 offers a simple proposition: TIME TO RESCUE OUR CONSTITUENCY. TIME FOR EFFECTIVE REPRESENTATION. The people will decide. RESCUE NYO-KHANA 2027. NyoKhana Voice Must be heard comes 2027. I am Distinguished Comrade Nubor Optimist Goteh, a dependable Member of RESCUE NYO-KHANA 2027. |

RIVERS 2027: WHY THE PIDOMSON–OKUMGBA TICKET HAS BECOME A MAJOR ALTERNATIVE IN THE POLITICAL CONVERSATION ADC, Pidomson and Okumgba: A Ticket That Has Put Inclusion, Representation and the Future of Rivers Back on the Table PORT HARCOURT — As Rivers State gradually moves towards the 2027 general elections, the political conversation is increasingly shifting from familiar political calculations to a more fundamental question: What kind of leadership does Rivers State want for its future? For the Gabriel Pidomson Support Organisation (GPSO), the answer lies in opening the political space to credible alternatives and encouraging citizens to examine every candidate, political platform and proposed development agenda on its merits. It is against this background that GPSO continues to project His Excellency, Sir Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson, and his running mate, Hon. David Amapakaye Okumgba, under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The organisation describes the ticket as a significant intervention in Rivers State's political conversation — one capable, in its view, of challenging established assumptions about who can aspire to the highest political office in the state. THE PIDOMSON–OKUMGBA TICKET At the centre of the GPSO campaign narrative is the partnership between Pidomson and Okumgba. Pidomson represents the governorship aspiration, while Okumgba joins the ticket as running mate. GPSO presents the combination as a partnership built around inclusion, complementary experience, statewide engagement and a shared political vision. The significance of the ticket, according to the organisation, should not be reduced to ethnic or geographical calculations. Rivers State is bigger than any single ethnic nationality, political family or individual. The real test of any ticket should ultimately include competence, character, experience, vision, policy direction, accountability and capacity to deliver good governance. RIVERS GOVERNORSHIP IS NOT THE PROPERTY OF ANYONE One of the strongest arguments advanced by GPSO is that the governorship of Rivers State is a public office — not the permanent property of an individual, family, political dynasty or ethnic group. Every citizen and every community should have the constitutional right to participate in the political process. The emergence of Pidomson has therefore, in GPSO's assessment, widened the conversation about political inclusion. The organisation believes Rivers people should be able to consider alternatives without intimidation, prejudice or the assumption that political power is permanently reserved for particular interests. WHY ADC MATTERS IN THE CONVERSATION The political platform also matters. Pidomson and Okumgba are contesting under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), giving their supporters an established political vehicle through which their political programme can be presented to the electorate. For GPSO, ADC provides the platform through which its preferred political alternative can be organised, communicated and taken to communities across the state. But political parties, like candidates, must be judged by what they offer the people. The electorate deserves to know: What is the party's development agenda? What does it propose for employment and economic growth? What is its position on education, healthcare, infrastructure and security? How will it promote accountability and responsible governance? These are the issues that should define the 2027 conversation. FROM GRASSROOTS TO GOVERNMENT GPSO's strategy has been to take political engagement beyond the political elite. The organisation says its structures are being strengthened across Rivers State because it believes political participation should reach ordinary citizens in their communities. The trader in Bori, the farmer in Ogoni, the artisan in Port Harcourt, the student in a tertiary institution, the entrepreneur in Ikwerre, the fisherman in the riverine communities and the professional working in the state's urban centres all have a stake in the future of Rivers State. No political conversation is complete without them. GPSO therefore describes its grassroots mobilisation as an attempt to create a wider conversation around leadership, development and political participation. THE OGONI ASPIRATION Pidomson's emergence also adds another dimension to Rivers State's political history. As an Ogoni son, his governorship aspiration has generated conversations about political representation and whether the state's highest political office should remain accessible to every part of the state. For GPSO, the issue is not about replacing one form of exclusion with another. It is about establishing the principle that every part of Rivers State should have the opportunity to produce leaders for the entire state. An Ogoni candidate should not merely seek to govern Ogoni. A successful governorship candidate must ultimately demonstrate the capacity to govern Rivers State as a whole. That is why GPSO says Pidomson's aspiration must be judged by the breadth of his vision for all Rivers people. DAVID OKUMGBA AND THE IMPORTANCE OF PARTNERSHIP The role of the running mate should not be treated as ceremonial. A deputy governor is an important partner in governance and should complement the governor's leadership. GPSO therefore presents Hon. David Amapakaye Okumgba as an integral part of the political proposition being placed before Rivers people. The strength of the ticket, in the organisation's view, should be measured by how effectively both men can work together, understand the state's diverse interests and translate their political commitments into practical governance. A STATE THAT NEEDS A NEW CONVERSATION Rivers State has enormous economic potential, strategic importance and human resources. Yet political competition often becomes dominated by personalities, alliances and calculations about power. GPSO argues that the state deserves a broader conversation — one centred on development, accountability, inclusion, employment, education, healthcare, infrastructure, security, investment and human capital development. That is the conversation the organisation says it wants to take to the grassroots. THE PEOPLE MUST EXAMINE THE ALTERNATIVES The 2027 election will present Rivers people with competing candidates, parties and political propositions. GPSO has made its preference known. It believes the Pidomson–Okumgba ticket under ADC deserves serious attention as an alternative political proposition for Rivers State. However, the responsibility ultimately rests with citizens to examine the candidates, compare programmes, ask difficult questions and participate peacefully in the democratic process. The strength of democracy is not that everyone must agree. Its strength is that citizens have the freedom to consider alternatives and make their choices without fear or coercion. THE GPSO POSITION For the Gabriel Pidomson Support Organisation, the message is therefore straightforward: Rivers State belongs to all its people. Its future belongs to all its people. Its highest political office is a public trust. And every credible political aspiration deserves to be examined on the basis of competence, character, vision, inclusion and capacity to serve. GPSO has chosen to stand behind Sir Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson and Hon. David Amapakaye Okumgba under ADC because the organisation believes their ticket represents an important alternative in the unfolding political conversation. The organisation says it will continue to engage communities, strengthen its structures and communicate its preferred vision for the future of Rivers State. LIBERATING RIVERS, BUILDING OUR FUTURE. — GPSO EDITORIAL BOARD This editorial represents the stated position of the Gabriel Pidomson Support Organisation (GPSO) and is intended as political opinion and advocacy. OGONI 2027: THE TIME TO SEEK THE FIRST EXALTED SEAT IN RIVERS IS NOW Beyond appointments and political promises, Ogoni must demand a credible pathway to the Government House By OPTIMIST NEWS NETWORK (ONN) There comes a time in the history of a people when political participation must move beyond applause, appointments and occasional recognition to the question of who actually sits at the table where decisions are made. For Ogoni, that time may well be 2027. The question before Ogoni stakeholders, traditional rulers, political leaders, professionals, youths, women, students and the millions of Ogoni people at home and in the diaspora is no longer merely who will appoint an Ogoni son or daughter into government. The more fundamental question is: When will an Ogoni person occupy the highest elective office in Rivers State? For decades, Ogoni has contributed enormously to the political, economic, intellectual and environmental history of Rivers State and Nigeria. Yet, the argument that the people have not received commensurate political power remains a subject of continuing debate within Ogoni. The time has come for that debate to become organised, mature and strategic. FROM SARO-WIWA'S DEMANDS TO TODAY'S POLITICAL REALITY The Ogoni struggle was never simply about occupying political offices. The Ogoni Bill of Rights, presented in 1990, articulated demands for political participation, representation, economic rights and protection of the Ogoni environment. Its historical significance lies in the fact that Ogoni's leaders connected environmental justice with political and economic rights. That is an important lesson for the present generation. Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni activists who stood with him understood something fundamental: a people who desire lasting change must have a voice in the institutions where decisions affecting their future are taken. The Ogoni struggle also demonstrated the power of organised, non-violent mobilisation. The movement's demands attracted national and international attention precisely because they were presented as a collective cause rather than a personal political ambition. Three decades later, Ogoni must ask itself whether it has sufficiently translated that historic consciousness into political power. OGONI CANNOT REMAIN PERMANENTLY AT THE PERIPHERY This editorial is not an argument that an Ogoni candidate should be supported merely because he or she is Ogoni. That would be too simplistic. The people of Rivers State deserve a governor who is competent, credible, experienced, development-oriented, accessible and capable of governing all communities fairly. But Ogoni also has the legitimate right to aspire to produce the governor of Rivers State. Ethnic identity should not be the qualification; neither should it be a disqualification. The real qualification must be competence, character, capacity and a demonstrable commitment to the development of the entire State. That distinction is crucial. The aspiration for an Ogoni governor must therefore not be presented as an attempt to take Rivers State away from other ethnic nationalities. Rather, it should be presented as a legitimate demand for inclusion, political rotation, equity and equal opportunity. Rivers State belongs to all its peoples. And precisely because it belongs to all, no part of the State should be permanently told that the highest office is beyond its reach. THE FIRST EXALTED SEAT For too long, political conversations in Ogoni have often revolved around appointments, party structures, legislative positions, local government offices and the occasional influence of individual politicians. Those positions matter. But they cannot substitute for the highest elective responsibility in the State. The governorship is not merely another political appointment. It is the office through which the direction of Rivers State's economy, infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, environmental policies and institutional development can be substantially influenced. Therefore, when Ogoni says "2027: First Exalted Seat or Nothing," the statement should not be interpreted as a threat or a rejection of other Rivers people. It should be understood as a declaration of political ambition. Ogoni wants to compete for the highest office. And it should compete intelligently. THE POLITICAL LESSON OF KEN SARO-WIWA Perhaps the greatest lesson of Ken Saro-Wiwa's generation is that Ogoni must never allow its internal differences to destroy its collective interest. The historic Ogoni struggle brought together people around a cause larger than individual ambition. Today, however, political competition can easily turn brother against brother, community against community and political camp against political camp. This is precisely where caution is required. Ogoni must not permit politicians—whether from within or outside Ogoni—to weaponise ethnicity, clan, party affiliation, religion, personal loyalty or financial inducement to divide the people. A politician who needs Ogoni divided to remain politically relevant does not represent the long-term interest of Ogoni. OUR POLITICIANS MUST ANSWER HARD QUESTIONS As 2027 approaches, Ogoni voters should stop asking only: "What can this politician give me?" They should also ask: What is this candidate's record? What has he or she contributed to Ogoni? What is the candidate's position on environmental restoration? What is the plan for Ogoni's infrastructure? What will happen to the neglected roads? What is the strategy for education and youth employment? How will healthcare be improved? What will be done about agriculture and local enterprise? How will Ogoni communities benefit from the economic resources generated from their land? What institutional safeguards will protect Ogoni interests? Can this person govern Rivers State fairly beyond ethnic boundaries? These are the questions of a politically mature people. OGONI YOUTH: DO NOT SELL TOMORROW FOR TODAY The youth must be at the centre of this conversation. The greatest danger to Ogoni's political future is not necessarily an opposing ethnic group. It may be political desperation among our own people. A young man who accepts a small payment to insult another Ogoni youth today may be helping to destroy the very political future he will need tomorrow. A young woman recruited to spread ethnic hatred online may unknowingly be strengthening the political machinery of somebody who will never remember her name after the election. Ogoni youths must therefore become politically educated, not politically manipulated. Let our young people debate policies. Let them interrogate manifestoes. Let them demand accountability. Let them organise peacefully. Let them reject violence. Let them reject political thuggery. Let them refuse to become instruments for destroying fellow Ogonis. The future of Ogoni cannot be built with the hatred of Ogoni against Ogoni. STAKEHOLDERS MUST BUILD A COMMON POLITICAL AGENDA Traditional rulers, elders, political leaders, professionals, student leaders, women's organisations, youth organisations, religious institutions, community development associations and civil society groups have an enormous responsibility. Ogoni needs a common political agenda for 2027. Not necessarily a common political party. Not necessarily a common candidate imposed by a few individuals. But a common set of demands that every serious candidate seeking Ogoni's support must address. Such an agenda could include: 1. Political inclusion and equitable representation. 2. Environmental restoration and implementation of credible remediation programmes. 3. Roads, electricity, water and other critical infrastructure. 4. Education, scholarships, skills acquisition and employment opportunities. 5. Healthcare and community development. 6. Agricultural and industrial investment. 7. Protection of Ogoni cultural heritage and traditional institutions. 8. Greater participation of women and young people in governance. 9. Transparency and accountability in the management of public resources. 10. A clear pathway towards sustainable economic development in Ogoniland. These demands should survive beyond one election and beyond one politician. OGONI MUST NOT REPEAT THE MISTAKES OF THE PAST History will judge this generation. The Ogoni Nine paid the ultimate price in 1995 after years of activism around environmental and human rights concerns. Their sacrifice remains an important part of Ogoni's collective memory. But remembrance alone is insufficient. Every anniversary, every wreath-laying ceremony and every speech about Ken Saro-Wiwa must lead to a deeper question: What are we doing with the opportunity they never had? If Saro-Wiwa's generation fought for dignity, should our generation not fight peacefully for responsible political representation? If they demanded that Ogoni should have a voice in its own affairs, should we not build the political organisation required to make that voice count? If they warned against the destruction of Ogoni's future, should we not stop allowing short-term political interests to consume our collective tomorrow? 2027 MUST BE A TEST OF OGONI'S POLITICAL MATURITY The 2027 election should not become another season of political promises where Ogoni is remembered during campaigns and forgotten after elections. This time, the people must negotiate from a position of organisation and clarity. No more politics of crumbs. No more politics of divide and rule. No more politics that turns Ogoni against Ogoni. No more political mobilisation without measurable commitments. If an Ogoni candidate emerges with the competence, character, statewide acceptability and programme required to govern Rivers State, Ogoni should be prepared to rally peacefully and intelligently behind that aspiration. And if candidates from other parts of Rivers State seek Ogoni's support, they too should be prepared to explain clearly what they intend to do for Ogoni and how they intend to ensure fairness. That is democracy. OGONI GOVERNOR — BUT A GOVERNOR FOR ALL There is one important caveat. An Ogoni governor must not become an Ogoni-only governor. The aspiration should be: An Ogoni governor for Rivers State. A governor who understands Ogoni's history but also respects Ikwerre, Kalabari, Ijaw, Okrika, Etche, Eleme, Tai, Andoni, Opobo-Nkoro, Ogba and every other component of Rivers State. That is the kind of leadership that can transform an ethnic aspiration into a statewide project. The ultimate victory would not simply be an Ogoni man or woman entering Government House. The greater victory would be an Ogoni-born governor who leaves behind a stronger, fairer, more united and prosperous Rivers State. THE TIME TO ORGANISE IS NOW Recent public discussions in Rivers State show that calls for political parties to consider Ogoni for the 2027 governorship are becoming more prominent. That conversation should be encouraged—but it must be conducted responsibly. Ogoni must approach 2027 not with desperation, but with preparation. Not with hatred, but with strategy. Not with violence, but with organisation. Not with empty slogans, but with ideas. Not as divided communities competing for individual political favours, but as a people capable of negotiating collectively while respecting internal diversity. The Ogoni of 2027 must be different from the Ogoni of yesterday. OUR POSITION At OPTIMIST NEWS NETWORK (ONN), we believe the question of Ogoni's political future deserves serious public discussion. The aspiration for the first exalted seat in Rivers State is legitimate. The demand for greater political inclusion is legitimate. The desire to produce a governor of Rivers State is legitimate. But the process must be democratic, peaceful, transparent and based on competence. Ogoni must not merely seek power. Ogoni must prepare for power. And when that opportunity comes, the person who occupies the Government House must understand that the office is not a trophy for Ogoni. It is a responsibility to all Rivers people. Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni Nine cannot return to lead us. But their sacrifice can continue to teach us. Their courage can continue to inspire us. Their demand for dignity can continue to guide us. And their memory can remind us that the future of a people is never secured by silence, division or political dependency. 2027 is not simply another election year for Ogoni. It is an opportunity to decide whether we will continue negotiating for pieces of political influence—or organise intelligently to compete for the highest responsibility in the State. Ogoni wants the Government House. Not through violence. Not through hatred. Not through blackmail. But through competence, unity, strategy, democratic participation and the mandate of the people. First exalted seat in Rivers State—or nothing less than a serious, determined and organised pursuit of it. The time to awaken is now. The time to unite is now. The time to prepare is now. 2027: GPSO CONGRATULATES PIDOMSON AS ADC LIST CONFIRMS RIVERS GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATURE …Urges supporters, party members to remain focused as campaign preparations gather momentum PORT HARCOURT — The Gabriel Pidomson Support Organisation (GPSO), on behalf of the National Grand Patron/Convener, National Working Council (NWC), the 23 Local Government Area Coordinators and the entire membership of the organisation, has congratulated His Excellency, Sir Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson, following the submission of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) list of candidates for the 2027 governorship and State House of Assembly elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The organisation described the development as an important clarification concerning the Rivers State governorship ticket, saying the official documentation has provided further confirmation of Dr. Pidomson's candidature under the ADC. GPSO, in a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Distinguished Comrade Nubor Optimist Goteh, said it had remained confident in the internal processes of the party and had deliberately refused to be distracted by claims and counterclaims circulating on social media. According to the organisation, the ADC National Secretariat formally transmitted its consolidated list of nominated candidates to INEC following the completion of the party's nomination processes and the relevant uploads on the electoral commission's platform. The list, which contains the governorship candidates of the ADC across the 36 states of the federation, identifies Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson as the party's governorship candidate for Rivers State. GPSO said the development reinforces the importance of relying on official records, established party procedures and documentation from the appropriate authorities whenever questions arise concerning political nominations. The organisation recalled that there had been what it described as “distractions” concerning the Rivers State governorship ticket, but maintained that such claims did not alter its confidence in the process. “Our decision to remain focused was informed by our confidence in due process, the integrity of the party's internal mechanisms and the official records before the relevant authorities,” the statement said. The GPSO National Coordinator congratulated Dr. Pidomson on the development and commended members of the ADC leadership, party stakeholders and supporters who remained committed to the democratic process throughout the period. He further called on members of GPSO across the 23 Local Government Areas and 319 Wards of Rivers State to remain calm, disciplined and focused as preparations for the 2027 elections continue. Optimist stressed that the latest development should not be viewed merely as a political milestone but also as a call for greater responsibility among members and supporters. He said GPSO would continue to strengthen its grassroots structures, deepen engagement with communities and stakeholders, and work within the framework of the law and the democratic process. The organisation also urged its members to avoid unnecessary arguments, misinformation and personal attacks, stressing that political disagreements should not undermine unity or peaceful participation. According to GPSO, the task ahead requires organisation, discipline, effective communication and sustained grassroots engagement across the state. The organisation therefore called on its LGA and Ward structures to remain active and responsive, while ensuring that their activities are conducted peacefully and responsibly. GPSO reiterated its commitment to supporting the democratic process and to contributing to constructive political participation in Rivers State. The organisation described the official documentation as a development that should enable stakeholders to concentrate on the broader issues confronting the state and the choices that will be presented to the electorate in 2027. While congratulating His Excellency, Sir Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson, GPSO urged all its members and stakeholders to remain focused, united and committed to peaceful democratic engagement as the political process progresses. OGONI AT A CROSSROADS: OUR HEROES SACRIFICED FOR UNITY, NOT DIVISION As we remember the Ogoni martyrs, stakeholders must reject political manipulation and protect the unity, dignity and collective interest of Ogoni By OPTIMIST NEWS NETWORK (ONN) There are moments in the history of a people when the present must pause and listen to the voices of the past. For Ogoni, such a moment is now. Three decades after the execution of the Ogoni Nine, the sacrifices of our heroes continue to challenge us with a fundamental question: Have we remained faithful to the principles for which they gave their lives? Ken Saro-Wiwa and the other Ogoni Nine did not stand for division among Ogoni people. They did not fight for the political comfort of a few individuals. They stood for dignity, justice, environmental protection, human rights, inclusion and the collective advancement of the Ogoni people. On November 10, 1995, Ken Saro-Wiwa, Barinem Kiobel, John Kpuinen, Baribor Bera, Felix Nuate, Paul Levula, Saturday Dobee, Nordu Eawo and Daniel Gbokoo were executed by Nigeria's military government following a trial Amnesty International described at the time as blatantly unfair. Their struggle had drawn international attention to environmental degradation and the rights of the Ogoni people. Their sacrifice therefore demands more from us than annual remembrance ceremonies, photographs, hashtags and speeches. It demands responsibility. WHAT HAVE WE DONE WITH THEIR SACRIFICE? This is the question Ogoni leaders, traditional rulers, politicians, professionals, youths, women and every son and daughter of Ogoni must honestly answer. Our heroes confronted oppression with courage. They organised. They mobilised. They spoke with one voice. They negotiated when necessary. They resisted when principle demanded resistance. And, most importantly, they understood that the Ogoni struggle was bigger than individual political ambition. Ken Saro-Wiwa's philosophy of non-violent resistance remains particularly instructive. He famously declared: “We are going to demand our rights peacefully, nonviolently, and we shall win.” That statement was not merely a slogan. It represented a political philosophy built around courage, organisation, peaceful mobilisation and collective purpose. Today, however, there is growing concern that political interests are increasingly finding ways to exploit our differences. Ogoni must be careful. POLITICIANS WILL COME AND GO; OGONI WILL REMAIN Political parties will come and go. Candidates will come and go. Political appointments will come and go. Governments will come and go. But Ogoni and her people will remain. Therefore, no political party, politician, appointment, contract, financial inducement or temporary political advantage should be allowed to destroy the unity that generations of Ogoni patriots fought to establish. Political disagreement is normal in a democracy. But political disagreement must never become ethnic hatred. Political competition must never become a war against our brothers and sisters. And political loyalty must never be elevated above the collective interest of Ogoni. Our people must learn to distinguish between political strategy and political manipulation. OUR LEADERS MUST LOOK INTO THE MIRROR OF HISTORY The current generation of Ogoni leaders must be willing to compare its political conduct with the courage and leadership philosophy of those who came before us. The generation of our heroes confronted enormous risks. They knew the consequences of speaking truth to power, yet they spoke. They knew the dangers of standing together, yet they stood. They understood that the Ogoni struggle could not be reduced to personal ambition. That is the standard against which today's leadership must be measured. The question should not simply be: “What political party are you supporting?” The bigger question should be: “What is your political decision doing for Ogoni?” Is it strengthening our unity? Is it improving our bargaining power? Is it advancing our political representation? Is it protecting our environment? Is it creating opportunities for our young people? Is it promoting justice? Is it positioning Ogoni for greater participation in governance? Or is it simply advancing the ambition of one individual? These are uncomfortable questions—but Ogoni must ask them. DO NOT ALLOW POLITICS TO DIVIDE A PEOPLE WHO HAVE SUFFERED TOGETHER One of the greatest dangers before Ogoni today is not political disagreement itself. It is the deliberate weaponisation of our differences. We must not allow political actors to turn village against village, clan against clan, generation against generation or one Ogoni leader against another merely because of political calculations. Our diversity is not our weakness. It should be our strength. A politically mature Ogoni should be able to accommodate different political opinions without destroying its collective identity. You can support different political parties and still be an Ogoni patriot. You can disagree with another Ogoni person politically and still respect him. You can belong to different political movements and still sit at the same table to discuss the future of Ogoni. That is political maturity. OUR FLAG, OUR IDENTITY, OUR HISTORY The same principle applies to the symbols of Ogoni identity. The Ogoni flag, our cultural symbols, our historical narratives and the memories of our heroes should never become instruments of political mockery or partisan propaganda. They belong to the people. They carry the memories of generations. They represent an identity that existed before today's political parties and will exist long after today's politicians have left the stage. We must therefore teach our young people that Ogoni identity is bigger than politics. Nobody should use Ogoni's identity merely when it is convenient and abandon the collective interest when political calculations change. Our heroes did not sacrifice so that their names could become political decorations. They sacrificed so that future generations could stand with dignity. THE LEGACY OF KEN SARO-WIWA MUST NOT BE REDUCED TO A T-SHIRT OR HASHTAG Ken Saro-Wiwa's greatest legacy was not simply that he became an international symbol. His greatest legacy was that he demonstrated the power of an organised people demanding justice. He understood that the struggle for Ogoni was connected to the environment, human dignity, economic justice, political participation and the right of a people to determine their future. His words remain powerful: “I may be dead, but my ideas will not die.” Thirty years later, those ideas remain relevant. The Ogoni Nine were posthumously pardoned by the Nigerian government in June 2025, but Amnesty International and others argued that a pardon did not go far enough and called for full exoneration. That development should remind us that the struggle for justice is not finished simply because history remembers our heroes. Justice must continue to be pursued. Environmental restoration must continue to be demanded. Political inclusion must continue to be pursued. And the unity of the Ogoni people must continue to be protected. OGONI MUST NOT BE A THEATRE FOR POLITICAL EXPERIMENTATION For too long, our land and people have endured enormous historical burdens. Oil exploitation brought wealth to others while Ogoni communities endured environmental degradation and social consequences. Recent reporting continues to highlight unresolved environmental concerns in Ogoniland and controversy over proposals for renewed oil production. Therefore, Ogoni cannot afford political leadership that treats our communities merely as electoral theatres. We need leaders who understand that political power is a tool for development—not an end in itself. We need leaders who can negotiate effectively. We need leaders who can build alliances without surrendering our identity. We need leaders who can disagree without destroying one another. We need leaders who can place the collective interest above personal ambition. TO THE OGONI YOUTH: DO NOT SELL YOUR FUTURE The youth must be particularly careful. Do not allow anybody to recruit you into political hatred. Do not allow anybody to use you to insult your fellow Ogoni. Do not allow temporary political benefits to make you enemies of people with whom you share the same ancestry, land and history. Ask questions. Read history. Study the struggles of our heroes. Demand accountability. Challenge leaders respectfully. And, above all, think beyond 2027. Elections last one day. The consequences of political decisions can last for generations. TO OUR TRADITIONAL RULERS, LEADERS AND STAKEHOLDERS Ogoni needs a new generation of elder statesmanship. Our traditional rulers and community leaders must become custodians of unity, not instruments of political division. Our political leaders must understand that leadership is temporary but history is permanent. Our professionals must provide intellectual leadership. Our religious leaders must preach peace and justice. Our women must be active participants in political conversations. Our youths must be empowered to become decision-makers rather than political foot soldiers. And our media must hold everybody accountable without becoming propaganda machinery for any individual. THE NEXT CHAPTER MUST BE DIFFERENT Ogoni has paid enormous dues in the Nigerian project. We have produced intellectuals, activists, administrators, professionals, entrepreneurs, community leaders and political actors who have contributed significantly to Rivers State and Nigeria. But our greatest political achievement should not be measured by how many political appointments individual Ogoni people receive. It should be measured by how effectively Ogoni converts its population, unity, intellectual capacity, resources and historical experience into sustainable political influence. That requires unity. It requires strategic thinking. It requires negotiation. It requires patience. It requires courage. And above all, it requires leaders who understand that Ogoni is bigger than them. A MESSAGE TO EVERY OGONI SON AND DAUGHTER As we honour Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni Nine, let us remember that their blood created an obligation upon the living. We owe them unity. We owe them courage. We owe them justice. We owe them truth. We owe them responsible leadership. And we owe future generations an Ogoni that is stronger than the one we inherited. Let us therefore reject every attempt—whether deliberate or accidental—to use politics to destroy our collective identity. Let us disagree without becoming enemies. Let us compete without destroying one another. Let us support different political parties without abandoning Ogoni. Let us hold our leaders accountable regardless of their political affiliations. And let us never forget that political parties are temporary, but Ogoni is permanent. The legacy of our heroes must not become merely a chapter in history books. It must become a standard for leadership. As Ken Saro-Wiwa reminded the world through his life and struggle, the pursuit of justice requires courage. His ideas remain a challenge to every generation that inherits the struggle. The question before us is no longer what our heroes sacrificed for Ogoni. The question is: what are we prepared to sacrifice for Ogoni today? History is watching. The ancestors are watching. The younger generation is watching. And tomorrow will judge us. Ogoni must not be divided for the convenience of politicians. Ogoni must not be sacrificed for personal ambition. Ogoni must not become a political battlefield. Ogoni must rise as one people—united in dignity, strategic in politics, peaceful in action and uncompromising in the pursuit of justice. OUR POSITION OPTIMIST NEWS NETWORK (ONN) calls on all Ogoni stakeholders, political leaders, traditional rulers, youth leaders, women leaders, professionals and citizens to place the collective interest of Ogoni above partisan politics and personal ambition. The time has come to build an Ogoni political culture where politics may divide our votes, but never our people. Our heroes paid the price for us to speak. Let us use that voice wisely. Let us honour their sacrifice by refusing to destroy the unity they fought to protect. Ogoni's future must be negotiated by Ogoni, protected by Ogoni and built by Ogoni—with justice, wisdom and unity. ONN REMEMBERS OGONI NINE: 30 YEARS ON, SARO-WIWA’S VOICE STILL ECHOES FOR JUSTICE “We are going to demand our rights peacefully, nonviolently, and we shall win.” — Ken Saro-Wiwa By Distinguished Comrade Nubor Optimist Goteh Media Executive & Publisher, Optimist News Network (ONN) Thirty years after the execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ogoni leaders, the wounds of November 10, 1995 remain deeply etched in the collective memory of the Ogoni people and in the history of Nigeria’s struggle for environmental justice, human rights and responsible governance. On that dark day, nine prominent Ogoni activists were executed by the Nigerian military government after a controversial trial that attracted widespread international condemnation. Their deaths transformed the Ogoni struggle from a local campaign into a global symbol of resistance against environmental degradation, injustice and the abuse of power. The Ogoni Nine were not merely individuals who died on a particular day. They became symbols of a people demanding recognition, dignity, environmental protection and justice. A VOICE THAT REFUSED TO BE SILENCED Ken Saro-Wiwa understood the power of peaceful resistance. His philosophy was rooted in the conviction that the Ogoni people could demand their rights without resorting to violence. His famous declaration that “we are going to demand our rights peacefully, nonviolently, and we shall win” captured the spirit of a movement determined to challenge injustice through courage and organised civil action. His message remains relevant today. Saro-Wiwa and his fellow activists confronted the devastating environmental consequences of decades of oil exploitation in Ogoniland and demanded that the rights and welfare of the people should not be sacrificed for economic interests. They paid the ultimate price. But history has demonstrated that while people can be silenced physically, ideas rooted in justice can survive generations. THREE DECADES LATER, THE QUESTIONS REMAIN Three decades after November 10, 1995, Ogoni continues to carry the memories of those who sacrificed their lives for the struggle. The questions surrounding justice, environmental restoration, accountability and the dignity of the Ogoni people remain important. The struggle has also evolved. Today, Ogoni must combine the courage of its past with the wisdom required to negotiate its future. Our people must continue to demand justice peacefully, intelligently and collectively. We must also ensure that the sacrifices of our heroes are not reduced to annual ceremonies, social-media hashtags and speeches. Their sacrifice must produce responsibility. It must inspire unity. It must strengthen our institutions. It must encourage young Ogoni people to participate meaningfully in public life. And it must remind every generation that the rights we enjoy today were not handed to us freely. HONOUR THE OGONI NINE BEYOND NOVEMBER 10 Remembering the Ogoni Nine should go beyond lighting candles, posting photographs and writing tributes. To truly honour Ken Saro-Wiwa, John Kpuinen, Barinem Kiobel, Saturday Dobee, Paul Levura, Nordu E. Moliso, Daniel Gbokoo, Felix Nwate and Dr. Ledum Mitee’s fellow activists who stood at the centre of the struggle, Ogoni must preserve the values for which the movement became known. We must embrace peaceful advocacy, unity, justice, environmental responsibility, courage and accountability. We must also teach our children the history of Ogoni—not merely the names of the fallen, but the reasons they stood up. THE OGONI STRUGGLE MUST NEVER BE USED FOR PERSONAL INTEREST The sacrifice of our heroes should never become a convenient political slogan. Ogoni identity, history and symbols must be treated with dignity. Political differences will always exist. Political parties will come and go. Governments will change. Leaders will rise and leave office. But Ogoni remains. The land remains. The people remain. And the history of the Ogoni Nine remains. Every Ogoni son and daughter therefore has a responsibility to ensure that the sacrifices of our heroes are not betrayed by division, selfishness, political opportunism or the pursuit of personal interests above the collective good. FROM RESISTANCE TO RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP The greatest tribute to Ken Saro-Wiwa is not simply remembering how he died. It is asking ourselves what we are doing with the freedom, knowledge and opportunities for which he and others paid such a heavy price. Ogoni needs a new generation of leaders who can combine courage with diplomacy, activism with strategy, and passion with competence. We must build bridges with other communities while firmly defending our legitimate interests. We must demand justice without hatred. We must pursue development without destroying our identity. We must participate in politics without allowing politics to destroy our unity. And above all, we must never forget that the struggle for justice is a continuous responsibility. THEIR VOICES STILL ECHO Thirty years later, the voice of Ken Saro-Wiwa still echoes across Ogoniland. It echoes in the creeks and farmlands. It echoes among the young people. It echoes in the communities affected by environmental degradation. It echoes whenever an Ogoni person demands dignity, justice and accountability. The Ogoni Nine may have been taken from this world, but their ideals remain part of the historical consciousness of our people. We remember them. We honour them. We will continue to demand justice peacefully. And we must ensure that the next generation inherits not only the memory of their sacrifice, but also the courage to defend the values for which they stood. THIRTY YEARS ON — NEVER FORGET. PIDOMSON–DAVID: WHY RIVERS PEOPLE MUST SHAKE HANDS WITH THE FUTURE There comes a moment in the life of a people when political choices must rise above sentiment, ethnic calculations and familiar political rhetoric. For Rivers State, that moment is approaching. If what Rivers people genuinely desire is competent, inclusive, accountable and progressive leadership, then the people must be prepared to examine the Pidomson–David ticket with an open mind and judge it on the strength of its vision, character, preparedness and capacity to serve. Rivers State belongs to all of us. It does not belong to one individual. It does not belong to a political dynasty. It does not belong to one ethnic nationality. It belongs equally to the sons and daughters of Rivers State—whether from Rivers South-East, Rivers West, Rivers East or any other part of our diverse State. Our diversity should be our strength, not a weapon for political division. THE QUESTION RIVERS PEOPLE MUST ASK At this point in our political journey, every voter should ask one simple question: “What kind of Rivers State do I want my children and grandchildren to inherit?” Do we want a State where governance is driven by consultation, competence and inclusion? Do we want leadership that gives every community a sense of belonging? Do we want young people to have meaningful opportunities? Do we want women, professionals, entrepreneurs and vulnerable citizens to have a voice? Do we want a government that treats public office as a responsibility rather than personal possession? These are the questions that should guide our political choices. Rivers people must therefore look beyond political slogans and ask candidates what they intend to do, how they intend to do it and whether they possess the character and capacity to deliver. WHY PIDOMSON–DAVID? The growing conversation around His Excellency Sir Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson and his running mate, Hon. David Amapakaye Okumgba, is rooted in the belief that Rivers State deserves a leadership team prepared to bring together competence, experience, inclusiveness and a fresh approach to governance. Their emergence has created another opportunity for Rivers people to consider a political alternative built around broader participation and a stronger connection with the grassroots. The State needs leaders who understand that government is not about one person making every decision. It is about institutions, consultation, accountability and giving citizens confidence that their voices matter. This is why the message of Pidomson resonates with many Rivers people: leadership must return to the people. RIVERS IS BIGGER THAN POLITICS Rivers State is blessed with enormous human and economic potential. We have oil and gas resources, fertile communities, a vibrant commercial environment, talented youths, hardworking women and professionals capable of competing anywhere in the world. Yet our greatest resource remains our people. The next administration must therefore create an environment where talent is rewarded, enterprise is encouraged, communities are developed and citizens can pursue their ambitions without discrimination. We need a leadership that can bring people together—not one that constantly reminds us of our differences. We need a government that sees the entire State as its constituency. ENOUGH OF EMPTY RHETORIC Rivers people should also learn to distinguish between political rhetoric and genuine leadership. A politician who speaks beautifully but cannot explain how ordinary citizens will benefit from his policies should be questioned. A politician who remembers the people only during elections should be questioned. A politician whose political vision begins and ends with personal interest should be questioned. The electorate must demand substance. What is the plan for employment? What is the plan for education? What is the plan for healthcare? What is the plan for security? What is the plan for rural communities? What is the plan for small businesses? What is the plan for young people and women? What is the plan for sustainable development? These are the issues that should determine the future of Rivers State. GPSO: BUILDING FROM THE GRASSROOTS This is where the Gabriel Pidomson Support Organisation (GPSO) continues to position itself as a grassroots-oriented movement. GPSO is working to build structures across the 23 Local Government Areas, wards and polling units while encouraging membership expansion, voter education, stakeholder engagement, youth and women participation, community consultations and political enlightenment. Our approach is simple: take the message to the people and allow the people to make informed choices. We are not building a movement based on intimidation or exclusion. We are building a movement based on engagement, organisation, discipline and participation. GPSO will continue to extend its hands of partnership and collaboration to traditional rulers, community leaders, professionals, youth and women organisations, religious leaders, civil society groups, market associations, political stakeholders and every well-meaning Rivers citizen who desires a better future for the State. THE FUTURE MUST BE COLLECTIVE The 2027 election should not become another contest of ethnic arithmetic. It should be an opportunity to decide what kind of leadership Rivers State needs. No single ethnic group can develop Rivers State alone. No individual can represent every interest alone. But together, our different communities can build a State where everyone belongs. That is the Rivers State we should be working towards. That is the Rivers State GPSO believes is possible. And that is why we invite Rivers people to examine the Pidomson–David ticket, participate in the democratic process and make their decisions based on competence, character, inclusion and the future they want. The future is not inherited. It is built by the choices we make today. GPSO remains committed, organised and ready to continue its grassroots engagement across Rivers State. We invite everyone who believes in peaceful democratic participation, inclusive leadership and a better future to join us. Let us shake hands with the future. Let us shake hands with hope. Let us shake hands with progress. Let us shake hands with Pidomson and David. Rivers State belongs to all of us. RIVERS WILL NEVER BE CONSUMED: PIDOMSON'S MESSAGE IS A CALL FOR HOPE, UNITY AND DIVINE JUSTICE — GPSO ...Declares Total Support for ADC Governorship Candidate, Urges Rivers People to Embrace the Politics of Peace and Purpose The Gabriel Pidomson Support Organisation (GPSO) has described the recent statement by the Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), His Excellency Sir Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson, on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily as a profound declaration of faith, hope and confidence in the destiny of Rivers State and its people. Speaking during the programme, Dr. Pidomson declared: «"Any person that wants to consume others, the land of Rivers State will open and consume them."» To us at GPSO, this is not a statement of hatred or revenge. Rather, it is a powerful affirmation that no individual, no matter how influential or powerful, is greater than the will of God or the collective destiny of the people of Rivers State. For too long, Rivers people have yearned for leadership that inspires hope instead of fear, unity instead of division, and service instead of intimidation. Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson represents that new leadership. His message is clear: Rivers State belongs to its people, and the future of the State must never be determined by threats, political intimidation or the desire to dominate others. GPSO firmly believes that the 2027 governorship election presents Rivers people with a historic opportunity to choose a leader whose life has been defined by integrity, humility, competence, inclusiveness and genuine concern for the welfare of the people. As an illustrious son of Ogoni and a respected statesman, Dr. Pidomson has consistently demonstrated that leadership is about building bridges, restoring confidence, creating opportunities and ensuring that every ethnic nationality, every community and every citizen has a sense of belonging. His vision is one of peace, economic revival, youth empowerment, quality education, improved healthcare, infrastructural development, security, environmental justice and inclusive governance. It is a vision capable of restoring Rivers State to its rightful place as one of Nigeria's leading states. The Gabriel Pidomson Support Organisation therefore calls on all Rivers people, irrespective of political affiliation, ethnic background or religious belief, to reject the politics of fear, bitterness and division. The future can only be secured through unity, dialogue, mutual respect and the election of credible leaders with the capacity to serve. We also urge all leaders, coordinators, executives and members of GPSO across the twenty-three Local Government Areas, the three Senatorial Districts, the 319 wards and polling units to remain steadfast, disciplined and focused in carrying the message of hope to every community. This is the time to intensify grassroots mobilisation, membership expansion, voter education, PVC sensitisation, community engagement and political evangelism. Every member of GPSO must become an ambassador of the vision of Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson by promoting issue-based campaigns founded on peace, unity and development. We reaffirm our total confidence in the leadership, competence and character of His Excellency Sir Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson and his running mate, Hon. David Amapakaye Okumgba. We are convinced that together they possess the experience, wisdom and compassion required to reposition Rivers State for sustainable growth and shared prosperity. GPSO remains fully prepared, united and committed to mobilising massive grassroots support across every ward, community and polling unit until victory is secured in the 2027 governorship election. The people of Rivers State deserve a government that listens, serves and delivers. They deserve leadership built on justice, accountability and inclusiveness. They deserve hope. That hope is alive. That hope is His Excellency Sir Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson. Together, let us rise above fear, reject division, embrace unity and build the Rivers State we all deserve. Godswill Akudo Ekeke, the Local Government Executive Council and members for the remarkable unity, discipline and synergy already established within the chapter, describing their commitment as a model worthy of emulation across Rivers State. The National Coordinator also expressed profound appreciation to the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), community stakeholders and political leaders in Oyigbo for embracing GPSO and supporting the organisation's vision of building a people-driven grassroots movement. He charged members to remain disciplined, loyal and focused, stressing that the success of GPSO depends on teamwork, accountability, transparency and selfless service rather than personal ambition. The National Coordinator equally unveiled the organisation's strategic roadmap for Oyigbo, which includes aggressive membership registration, ward and polling unit activation, community consultations, stakeholder engagement, town hall meetings, youth and women mobilisation, PVC sensitisation, voter education, media engagement and door-to-door campaigns. A major highlight of the event was the Leadership Verification and Inauguration of the Oyigbo Local Government Executive Council, conducted by the National Coordinator. He explained that the verification exercise was introduced to strengthen organisational integrity by ensuring that only committed, credible and active leaders occupy positions of responsibility. According to him, the exercise would eliminate inactive leadership, prevent duplication of offices, discourage ghost membership and establish a formidable grassroots structure capable of delivering meaningful political mobilisation across every ward and polling unit. He urged the newly inaugurated executives to see their appointments as a call to service rather than positions of privilege. "Leadership is about sacrifice, discipline, loyalty, accountability and service to the people. Every executive member must justify the confidence reposed in them through hard work, commitment and visible results," he said. Distinguished Comrade Goteh thereafter officially flagged off the GPSO Grassroots Mobilisation Programme in Oyigbo Local Government Area, calling on every member to return to their communities and intensify political mobilisation, membership recruitment and voter education in preparation for the 2027 elections. Also speaking, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Rivers State House of Assembly Candidate for Oyigbo Constituency, Hon. Peter Azuh, applauded the National and State leadership of GPSO for the remarkable organisational growth recorded across Rivers State. "Tell the people about the vision, competence and leadership qualities of Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson. He has a message to deliver and a programme to present to Rivers people. This is the season for hard work and grassroots mobilisation. The seeds we sow today will determine tomorrow's harvest," he said. Also addressing participants, the Public Relations Officer of the ADC, Oyigbo Local Government Area, Hon. He urged members to promote unity, mutual respect and collective responsibility, stressing that only a united organisation can achieve its objectives. THE LIGHT OF RIVERS: WHY PIDOMSON–OKUMGBA REPRESENT A NEW DAWN FOR OUR STATE As Rivers State prepares for another defining political transition, history once again presents the people with an opportunity to choose not merely a candidate, but a vision; not merely a political party, but a direction capable of restoring hope, rebuilding public confidence and repositioning the state for sustainable growth. The emergence of His Excellency Sir Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson as the Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside his running mate, Hon. David Amapakaye Okumgba, has continued to generate growing interest across Rivers State because many citizens see in the ticket a combination of competence, integrity, experience, inclusiveness and purposeful leadership. At a time when Rivers people yearn for peace, economic prosperity, responsible governance, youth empowerment, quality education, improved healthcare and infrastructural development, the Pidomson–Okumgba ticket presents itself as an opportunity to pursue these aspirations through leadership founded on service, accountability and broad-based participation. For many citizens, the question before the electorate is no longer simply who should govern, but what type of leadership can unite Rivers State, inspire confidence among investors, strengthen institutions, create opportunities for young people and restore public trust in government. The Pidomson–Okumgba ticket has consistently projected the values of inclusiveness, dialogue and people-oriented governance. Their campaign message resonates with citizens who desire a government that listens, consults and partners with communities to address their needs. Beyond personalities, every democratic election invites voters to evaluate ideas, records, character and plans for the future. Rivers people deserve leadership that promotes unity, protects public resources, encourages enterprise and ensures that development reaches every community regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity or social background. The future of Rivers State belongs to every citizen. It belongs to the farmer in Etche, the fisherman in Andoni, the entrepreneur in Port Harcourt, the artisan in Ahoada, the student in Khana, the teacher in Opobo, the civil servant in Degema and every hardworking son and daughter of the state. It is against this background that the Gabriel Pidomson Support Organisation (GPSO) has continued to strengthen its grassroots structures across the twenty-three Local Government Areas, wards and polling units. The organisation has intensified membership mobilisation, political education, stakeholder engagement, voter awareness campaigns, youth and women participation, community outreach and leadership development initiatives aimed at expanding democratic participation throughout Rivers State. GPSO believes that democracy flourishes when citizens are informed, organised and actively involved in the political process. Its growing presence across communities reflects the determination of thousands of volunteers and supporters committed to peaceful participation, issue-based campaigns and constructive engagement with the electorate. The organisation has repeatedly emphasised discipline, effective coordination, grassroots mobilisation and collaboration with community leaders, professionals, youths, women, traditional institutions and other stakeholders in promoting civic participation. As Rivers State moves closer to another electoral season, the responsibility now rests with the electorate to study every candidate carefully, evaluate their programmes and make informed decisions based on competence, integrity and their vision for the future. The people deserve leadership that inspires hope rather than division, unity rather than conflict, development rather than stagnation and service rather than self-interest. For supporters of the Pidomson–Okumgba ticket, the campaign represents more than an election; it represents a movement toward a more peaceful, prosperous and inclusive Rivers State. GPSO therefore calls on Rivers people—young and old, women and men, professionals, artisans, students, community leaders, market associations and all eligible voters—to participate actively in the democratic process, obtain or update their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), engage peacefully and vote according to their convictions. The organisation also encourages all citizens to remain committed to peaceful campaigns, mutual respect and issue-based political engagement throughout the electoral process. Rivers State possesses enormous human and natural resources. With visionary leadership, collective responsibility and active citizen participation, the state can continue its journey toward greater economic opportunities, improved public services and sustainable development. The future of Rivers State will ultimately be shaped by the choices its people make. Every PVC is a voice. Every vote is a responsibility. Every citizen has a role in building the Rivers State they desire. Gabriel Pidomson Support Organisation (GPSO) remains committed to strengthening grassroots participation, promoting peaceful democratic engagement and mobilising support for its principal while encouraging all Rivers people to contribute positively to the progress, unity and development of the state. ONN OPINION 2027: OGONI MUST NOT MORTGAGE ITS HISTORIC GOVERNORSHIP OPPORTUNITY — SUPPORT FOR DR. GABRIEL BARITULEM PIDOMSON IS A COLLECTIVE DUTY By Distinguished Comrade Nubor Optimist Goteh Media Executive & Publisher, Optimist News Network (ONN) The political history of the Ogoni people has been defined by resilience, sacrifice, advocacy and an unrelenting pursuit of justice. From the struggle for environmental justice to the quest for political inclusion, the Ogoni nation has consistently demonstrated courage in the face of adversity. Yet, despite these sacrifices and immeasurable contributions to the development of Rivers State and Nigeria, the highest political office in the state has remained beyond the reach of an Ogoni son or daughter. Today, history presents what many regard as a rare opportunity through Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson, the gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This moment calls not for division, hesitation or political calculations that weaken our collective interest, but for unity, courage and unwavering commitment to the Ogoni cause. Recent calls urging Ogoni people to embrace "strategic alliances" in ways that could undermine the aspiration of an Ogoni governorship deserve careful reflection. Alliances are an integral part of democratic politics, but any political arrangement that diminishes or weakens the legitimate opportunity of an Ogoni candidate to emerge Governor cannot be regarded as a strategic alliance for the Ogoni people. Rather, such an arrangement would risk postponing once again a long-standing aspiration that generations of Ogoni sons and daughters have pursued. This is not merely about supporting an individual. It is about defending the collective political interest of a people who have endured decades of marginalization while contributing immensely to the growth and stability of Rivers State. No personal ambition, political affiliation or individual interest should be placed above the collective aspiration of the Ogoni nation. Political parties may differ, but the destiny of our people must remain our common concern. The unity that our forebears struggled to preserve should never be sacrificed on the altar of partisan politics. The late environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa reminded the world that: "The struggle is not over until justice is done." He also declared: "The writer cannot be a mere storyteller; he cannot be a mere teacher; he cannot merely record history. The writer must actively participate in shaping the present and the future of his society." These words continue to resonate because they emphasize courage, justice and responsibility in moments of historic decision. While Ken Saro-Wiwa did not leave a widely documented quotation stating that "Ogoni should support Ogoni whether good or bad," the broader principles of his lifelong advocacy consistently emphasized unity, justice, dignity and collective advancement for the Ogoni people. Our heroes did not sacrifice so that future generations would abandon opportunities for political inclusion whenever they arise. Their sacrifices laid the foundation upon which today's generation must build with wisdom and determination. For decades, the Ogoni people have remained spectators in the contest for the governorship of Rivers State. Many ethnic nationalities have occupied the office while Ogoni has continued to wait. If an opportunity now presents itself through an Ogoni candidate, it deserves thoughtful consideration and broad engagement rather than actions that could inadvertently weaken that aspiration. This is equally a moment to appeal to our brothers and sisters across Rivers State. Supporting an Ogoni candidate should not be viewed solely as an ethnic project but as an opportunity to deepen fairness, inclusion and equity in the state's political evolution. Rivers State is strongest when every constituent ethnic nationality believes it has an equal stake in leadership. We therefore call on the people of Rivers South-East Senatorial District and indeed all Rivers people to carefully consider the broader significance of this moment. The emergence of an Ogoni Governor would represent not only political inclusion for one ethnic nationality but also a reaffirmation of justice, fairness and equal opportunity within our democratic system. The Ogoni struggle has always been about justice—not domination; inclusion—not exclusion; fairness—not privilege. Those values should continue to guide our political choices. History judges every generation by the decisions it makes when destiny presents an opportunity. The choices before the Ogoni people in 2027 will shape how future generations remember this era. May history record that when opportunity knocked, the Ogoni people stood together with wisdom, dignity and a clear vision for their future. May God bless the Ogoni people. May God bless Rivers State. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Signed: Distinguished Comrade Nubor Optimist Goteh Media Executive & Publisher Optimist News Network (ONN) |

AMBASSADOR OJI NGOFA: THE CROWN JEWEL OF ELEME AND A POLITICAL FORCE BEYOND THE BALLOT A Legacy of Loyalty, Influence and Service That Continues to Shape Rivers Politics As political alignments gradually take shape ahead of the 2027 general elections, one name that continues to command respect, loyalty and widespread admiration across Rivers State is that of Chief Hon. Ambassador Oji Ngofa, PhD. Though he may not be seeking elective office in the forthcoming elections, his influence remains unmistakable, his leadership unquestionable, and his political relevance undiminished. Ambassador Oji Ngofa stands today as one of the finest political exports of Eleme Ethnic Nationality and indeed Rivers State. Over the years, he has distinguished himself as a statesman, administrator, grassroots mobilizer, bridge-builder and leader whose impact transcends political offices and electoral cycles. Leadership is not measured solely by occupying positions or appearing on the ballot. True leadership is measured by the confidence people repose in an individual, the trust earned through years of service, and the capacity to inspire collective action. By these standards, Ambassador Ngofa remains one of the most influential political figures in Rivers South-East Senatorial District. For more than three years, he has remained a steadfast supporter of the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Through moments of political turbulence and periods of stability, Ambassador Ngofa has consistently demonstrated loyalty, maturity and commitment to the advancement of Rivers State. His support for the Governor has never been dictated by personal gain but by his conviction that the state's progress must remain paramount. What further distinguishes Ambassador Ngofa is the uncommon loyalty he enjoys among his supporters. Across the six local government areas that make up Rivers South-East Senatorial District, thousands of men and women continue to identify with his vision and leadership philosophy. The strength of this support is perhaps best exemplified by the Ambassador Oji Ngofa Support Group, widely regarded as one of the largest and most organized grassroots political structures in the district. With over 35,000 registered members spread across communities, wards and local government areas, the group remains a testament to the enduring appeal and acceptance of Ambassador Ngofa among the people. Unlike many political organizations built around temporary electoral ambitions, the support base of Ambassador Ngofa is rooted in trust, credibility and years of demonstrated leadership. His followers are connected not merely to political aspirations but to the values he represents—integrity, loyalty, accessibility, inclusiveness and service. As a former diplomat and respected statesman, Ambassador Ngofa has built a reputation for championing the interests of his people while promoting peace, unity and development. His contributions to the growth of Eleme, Rivers South-East and Rivers State continue to attract commendation from political stakeholders, traditional institutions, youth groups and community leaders. Today, his voice remains influential, his counsel sought after, and his political network formidable. He remains a rallying point for thousands who see in him a symbol of responsible leadership and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people. COMPETENCE, CAPACITY AND THE OGONI QUESTION: WHY DR. GABRIEL PIDOMSON DESERVES SERIOUS CONSIDERATION As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 Rivers State governorship election, one phrase has become increasingly popular among politicians and opinion leaders: "Competence First Before Zoning and Tribe." On the surface, the statement appears noble and logical. Every society desires competent leadership. Every electorate wants a governor who can manage resources, provide security, create opportunities, and drive development. However, Rivers people must carefully examine those who suddenly hide behind such expressions. Too often in politics, certain phrases are deployed not because of genuine conviction, but because they serve immediate political interests. The question Rivers people should ask is simple: Who determines competence? Who defines capacity? And why does the definition often change depending on who is contesting? Today, one name that continues to stand out in the conversation about competence, experience, credibility, and leadership capacity is Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson, PhD, KSJI, FNIM, FCMI-UK, FIHSD, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for Rivers State. A MAN WHO HAS PAID HIS DUES Unlike many politicians whose public service records are difficult to trace, Dr. Pidomson possesses a rich blend of academic excellence, legislative experience, executive governance exposure, professional accomplishments, and grassroots political engagement. From emerging as the Best Graduating Student in Quantity Surveying at Rivers State University, to earning multiple Master's Degrees and a Doctorate Degree, Dr. Pidomson has consistently demonstrated intellectual capacity and leadership excellence. His service as: - Member, Rivers State House of Assembly; - Chairman of strategic Assembly Committees; - Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG); - International Management Consultant; - Project Manager; - Entrepreneur; - Author and Publisher; places him among the most experienced governorship contenders Rivers State has produced in recent times. If competence is truly the standard, then Dr. Gabriel Pidomson undoubtedly meets and surpasses that threshold. COMPETENCE IS NOT A POLITICAL SLOGAN Competence is not determined by ethnicity. Competence is not determined by political godfatherism. Competence is not determined by propaganda. Competence is measured by preparation, experience, character, vision, leadership capacity, and ability to deliver results. Those who insist that competence should come first must therefore explain why a man who possesses legislative experience, executive governance experience, professional certifications, international exposure, academic distinction, and grassroots acceptance should not be considered competent. THE DANGER OF POLITICAL ENGLISH Rivers people must remain vigilant. History has shown that political businessmen often use carefully crafted English expressions to deceive supporters and manipulate public opinion. When they say "competence," what do they truly mean? When they say "capacity," whose capacity are they referring to? When they say "experience," what experience are they measuring? Sometimes, these expressions are merely coded political language designed to exclude certain groups while appearing fair and objective. The electorate must therefore look beyond slogans and examine records. THE OGONI SACRIFICE AND THE QUEST FOR FAIRNESS The Ogoni people remain one of the most politically conscious, economically significant, and nationally recognized ethnic nationalities in Rivers State. Ogoni land has contributed immensely to: - Nigeria's oil economy; - Rivers State's development; - Environmental justice campaigns; - Democratic struggles; - Educational advancement; - Political stability. The names of Ken Saro-Wiwa and several other Ogoni patriots remain etched in Nigeria's democratic history. Yet, despite these contributions, the governorship seat of Rivers State has remained elusive to the Ogoni people. Many ethnic nationalities have produced governors. Many zones have occupied strategic positions. But the Ogoni nation continues to wait. The question remains: If not now, when? If not this generation, which generation? If an Ogoni son who possesses competence, experience, education, political exposure, and widespread acceptance emerges, what further qualifications are required? A MOMENT FOR HISTORY The emergence of Dr. Gabriel Pidomson as the ADC governorship candidate presents Rivers State with a historic opportunity. This is not merely an Ogoni project. It is an opportunity to deepen inclusion, strengthen equity, promote justice, and reinforce the principle that every component of Rivers State matters. Supporting an Ogoni candidate who is competent should not be viewed as charity. It should be viewed as fairness. It should be viewed as justice. It should be viewed as the natural progression of a state committed to unity and shared prosperity. THE CHOICE BEFORE RIVERS PEOPLE As 2027 approaches, Rivers people must resist political manipulation. They must look beyond sentiments. They must look beyond empty rhetoric. They must examine records. They must evaluate competence. They must assess character. They must consider fairness. And in doing so, many will find that Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson possesses the experience, intellectual depth, administrative exposure, and leadership capacity required to govern Rivers State effectively. The debate should therefore not merely be about competence versus tribe. The real question should be: What happens when competence and fairness meet in one candidate? For many observers, that question leads directly to Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson. — Optimist News Network (ONN) Editorial Board |
OGONI GOVERNORSHIP AND THE POLITICS OF DOUBLE STANDARDS: WHY SOME CRITICS MUST ANSWER HARD QUESTIONS In politics, memory is important. Facts are important. Consistency is important. Unfortunately, in the current debate surrounding the emergence of Hon. Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Governorship Candidate for Rivers State ahead of 2027, some individuals have deliberately chosen selective memory, emotional blackmail, and political hypocrisy over honesty and fairness. The sudden attacks against former Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi over the Ogoni governorship question raise more questions than answers. Those now accusing Amaechi of “political convenience” must first answer honestly: where were they when opportunities existed under other administrations? Why is Amaechi the only man being interrogated for supporting an Ogoni son, while others who completely ignored Ogoni aspirations are celebrated in silence? The truth is bitter, but it must be spoken. During Amaechi’s administration, Ogoni sons and daughters occupied strategic and sensitive positions in government. Under Amaechi, an Ogoni son served as Secretary to the State Government (SSG). Ogoni sons held Commissioner positions, including the powerful Ministry of Finance. Ogoni also produced the Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and occupied several other relevant offices in governance. Beyond appointments, Amaechi’s government left visible projects across Ogoni land — roads, schools, healthcare facilities, and other public infrastructure. Till today, many of those projects remain standing as evidence of governance. The question many are asking is simple: if Amaechi hated Ogoni people as some now claim, why did his government invest heavily in Ogoni land? Why were Ogoni sons trusted with strategic responsibilities in his administration? The painful reality is that some of the same political leaders now criticizing Amaechi were among those who benefited directly from contracts, projects, and political patronage during those years. Sadly, many projects allocated to some Ogoni political actors never saw the light of day because funds meant for development disappeared into private pockets. That truth must also be told. More importantly, critics must explain another contradiction. For eight years, the administration of Chief Nyesom Wike had overwhelming support from many Ogoni political leaders and stakeholders across the four Ogoni LGAs. Yet, despite that loyalty, no Ogoni son was seriously considered for the governorship ticket of the PDP. Why? In 2023, highly qualified Ogoni politicians contested within the PDP structure — distinguished personalities like Senator Lee Maeba, the late Senator Mpigi, Hon. Kamalu and several others. Yet, none was given the opportunity. Some were frustrated out of the process entirely. If loyalty to Wike was the requirement, did Ogoni leaders not show loyalty enough? If competence was the parameter, were there no competent Ogoni sons? If political structure was the condition, did Ogoni politicians lack structure? If sacrifice was required, did Ogoni not sacrifice? These are questions Rivers people are asking. Now in 2026, when ADC under Amaechi has finally produced an Ogoni son — Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson — as governorship candidate for the first time in modern Rivers politics, some people suddenly discovered the language of suspicion and criticism. Why? Should Ogoni people reject an opportunity simply because it came through Amaechi? Should the dream of political inclusion be abandoned because of bitterness and personal political interests? If Amaechi has now remembered Ogoni in 2026, should the response not be maturity, engagement, and strategic support instead of insults? The truth remains that no major political bloc in Rivers State has gone this far in practically handing over a governorship structure to an Ogoni son. Whether critics like it or not, history will record that the ADC under Amaechi made that bold political statement. Those attacking this development should also remember that politics is about interests, negotiations, alliances, and opportunities. No ethnic nationality advances politically through constant internal attacks and division. Sadly, some Ogoni youths on social media have reduced political engagement to insults against elders, leaders, and stakeholders. This dangerous trend must stop. Disagreement is normal in politics, but abuse, insults, and character assassination against respected leaders only embarrass the Ogoni ethnic nationality before the larger Rivers political community. Politics is not war. Politics is not hatred. Politics is not destruction of elders. Even among the Ikweres, Kalabaris, and other ethnic groups, internal disagreements rarely degenerate into coordinated public disrespect against their leaders and elders. Another painful question that must be asked is this: Why does every political crisis, experiment, betrayal, and “test run” in Rivers politics often begin from Ogoni land? Why are Ogoni youths always encouraged to fight one another while others unite strategically? Why do outsiders benefit politically whenever Ogoni becomes divided? These are realities that demand reflection. The younger generation must also ask itself difficult questions. At what age should youths participate in leadership? Are young people not already contesting and winning positions? If this is truly our time, should we not approach politics with strategy, respect, and unity instead of insults and emotional outbursts? The emergence of Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson presents a fresh opportunity for political inclusion, negotiation, and relevance for Ogoni people within Rivers politics. Whether one supports ADC or not, fairness demands acknowledging that this is a major political development worthy of maturity and strategic thinking. At the end of the day, Rivers politics should not be driven by bitterness or propaganda but by sincerity, equity, inclusion, and development. The Ogoni struggle deserves seriousness, not selective outrage. And history will always remember those who gave opportunities — not only those who made speeches. 2026 WASSCE: “DISCIPLINE, LEADERSHIP AND QUALITY EDUCATION REMAIN OUR PRIORITY” — Dr. Saturday Amanyie, Chairman ANCOPSS Khana LGA, Speaks as CSS Wiiyaakara Students Express Confidence Ahead of WAEC As the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) begins across Nigeria, the management, staff, and students of Community Secondary School Wiiyaakara have expressed strong confidence in the preparedness and academic capacity of their candidates. This was made known during an exclusive media chat held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the office of Saturday Amanyie, the Principal of Community Secondary School Wiiyaakara, Chairman of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Khana LGA Chapter. Speaking with OPTIMIST NEWS NETWORK (ONN), Dr. Amanyie described education as the strongest foundation for societal growth, stressing that discipline, dedication, and proper mentorship remain critical in shaping responsible future leaders. According to him, schools across Khana LGA have intensified academic preparations ahead of the examinations through coaching classes, revision exercises, mock examinations, and strengthened supervision. He noted that despite prevailing economic difficulties and infrastructural challenges, principals and teachers within the area have continued to sacrifice enormously to maintain educational standards. Dr. Amanyie, however, identified several major challenges affecting secondary education in Khana LGA, including shortage of teaching staff, inadequate infrastructure, poor learning facilities, and hostile working environments in some riverine and rural communities. “Teachers in many communities work under difficult conditions. Some schools still experience shortage of staff, inadequate instructional materials, and unconducive environments. Yet our teachers remain committed to giving their best for the future of these children,” he stated. The ANCOPSS leader further emphasized the need for increased government intervention in teacher recruitment, renovation of school facilities, provision of ICT centers, laboratories, and improved welfare packages for educators. He maintained that examination malpractice must not be tolerated under any circumstance, insisting that integrity and hard work remain the true pathway to sustainable success. “Our goal is not just to produce students that can pass examinations, but disciplined young leaders who can positively contribute to society,” he added. Speaking on the role of teachers, the education administrator described educators as the backbone of academic excellence, commending their sacrifices and commitment toward preparing students for external examinations. The ANCOPSS Chairman equally praised the cooperation between principals, teachers, parents, students, and stakeholders, noting that collective responsibility remains essential in achieving educational success. The media interaction also featured cross interviews with members of the student leadership of Community Secondary School Wiiyaakara, who expressed optimism about the school’s performance in the ongoing examinations. The Senior Prefect Girl, Ezekiel Kaborloobari, delivered a passionate message on leadership, discipline, and the role of girls in society. “Leadership is not about shouting the loudest. It is about serving the interest of the people selflessly. I want the world to know that girls can lead, speak, and change things positively,” she said. She disclosed that students of the school were fully prepared for the examinations through intensive coaching and extramural classes organized by teachers. According to her, students have also spent months studying past questions and engaging in revision exercises aimed at ensuring outstanding performance in the 2026 WASSCE. She commended the efforts of the Principal and teaching staff for their commitment toward academic excellence and discipline within the school system. “We are confident that Community Secondary School Wiiyaakara will remain among the leading schools in Khana LGA in this year’s WAEC examinations,” she added. Also speaking, the Social Senior Prefect Girl, Baribor Wonderful, urged students to embrace education beyond memorization and competition. “Don’t just study to pass examinations. Study to understand, ask questions, challenge ideas respectfully, and use knowledge to help others. The world needs people who will use what they know to make society better,” she stated. Speaking on the ongoing WAEC examinations, she encouraged candidates to remain disciplined and avoid shortcuts. “WAEC is not only a test of memory but also a test of character, discipline, and integrity. Success comes through steady work, honesty, and focus,” she noted. She equally applauded the Principal and teachers of the school for creating an environment that encourages learning, discipline, confidence, and leadership among students. Education stakeholders present during the interaction described Community Secondary School Wiiyaakara as one of the schools in Khana LGA steadily building a culture of academic excellence, discipline, and responsible leadership. Observers also noted that the administration of Dr. Saturday Amanyie has continued to project the image of the institution positively through commitment to educational growth, student mentorship, and effective school management. With the 2026 WASSCE now underway, many within the education sector believe that the performance of schools in Khana LGA this year may serve as an important indicator of the resilience and dedication of teachers and students despite existing challenges. As thousands of candidates prepare to sit for the 2026 WASSCE, Dr. Amanyie urged students to remain focused, disciplined, prayerful, and determined throughout the examination period. Optimist News Network (ONN) believe the assurance from ANCOPSS leadership may boost confidence among parents and candidates ahead of the crucial examinations, which remain one of the most important academic assessments for secondary school students in Nigeria. DLA MEDIA CHAT IN PORT HARCOURT Online Membership Registration, Grassroots Mobilization Key to DLA’s Victory — Hon. Freeborn Garvin The Vice Chairman South-South of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Hon. Freeborn Garvin, has charged party leaders and members across the South-South geopolitical zone to take the ongoing online membership registration exercise with utmost seriousness, describing it as the “foundation upon which the future strength, legitimacy, and electoral success of the party rests.” Hon. Garvin made this known while speaking during an interactive media chat with DLA media personnel and communication strategists in Port Harcourt. Speaking extensively on the vision and direction of the party, the South-South Vice Chairman said DLA was established to provide credible leadership, restore hope to Nigerians, deepen internal democracy, and build a people-oriented political structure capable of rescuing the nation from economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and failed governance. According to him, DLA remains one of the fastest-growing political movements in Nigeria because of its ideology of inclusion, transparency, justice, grassroots participation, and people-centered leadership. He noted that the online membership registration exercise should not be seen as a mere routine activity, but as a strategic political assignment that will determine the future capacity and national spread of the party. “Every chairman, coordinator, and leader from the Unit level to Ward, LGA, Senatorial District, State, and Zonal structures must see membership registration as a duty-bound assignment. Members are the real strength of the DLA leadership and structure,” he stated. Hon. Garvin emphasized that all human beings within various communities and localities are potential members of DLA, urging party stakeholders to develop specific and intelligent grassroots strategies suitable for their environments in order to attract and register new members into the party. He maintained that political success can only be achieved through direct engagement with the people, especially those at the grassroots. “In every village, community, ward, street, church, mosque, market, and institution, there are Nigerians who are tired of the old order and are searching for hope. Those people are potential DLA members. We must approach them respectfully, strategically, and politically, and bring them into the movement,” he added. The South-South Vice Chairman further declared that Nigerians are yearning for DLA to rescue the country from years of hardship and political disappointment, stressing that the party has already positioned itself as a formidable alternative platform capable of accommodating millions of Nigerians seeking positive change. He said DLA has continued to expand across the country because citizens are gradually identifying the party as a genuine political movement driven by patriotism and national development. Comparing the emergence of DLA to the biblical story of David, Hon. Garvin stated that just as David emerged unexpectedly to confront Goliath when all hope appeared lost, DLA is gradually becoming the last hope of ordinary Nigerians in the nation’s democratic journey. “When many people thought there was no solution, David emerged with courage and purpose. Today, DLA is becoming that courageous platform Nigerians are looking up to. The people are tired, and they need a movement that genuinely represents them,” he declared. He used the opportunity to call on well-meaning Nigerians, youths, women, professionals, artisans, market traders, students, and community leaders to support DLA in its mission to rescue and rebuild Nigeria. Hon. Garvin also appealed to eligible voters who are yet to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to utilize the ongoing window provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State and other parts of the country to register immediately. He equally urged those who had registered previously but were yet to collect their PVCs to do so without delay, describing the PVC as “the power instrument of democratic participation.” “No political movement can succeed without voter participation. I encourage Nigerians to go and register, collect their PVCs, and prepare to participate actively in shaping the future of our country,” he stated. Addressing party leaders and members further, Hon. Garvin called for aggressive grassroots canvassing and political sensitization across communities in the South-South zone and beyond. He stressed the need for members to take the message of DLA directly to the grassroots, particularly to fathers, mothers, youths, and rural dwellers who are often neglected in political conversations. “We must go back to the grassroots. Let our mothers and fathers at home understand what DLA stands for. Let the people know that this movement belongs to them. Every member should become an ambassador of the party,” he charged. The media chat also featured discussions on party expansion, strategic communication, youth inclusion, digital mobilization, media advocacy, and the importance of discipline and unity within the party structure. Party media stakeholders present at the interactive session commended the leadership of Hon. Freeborn Garvin for his commitment to grassroots political development and his continued efforts toward strengthening DLA structures across the South-South region. The session ended with renewed commitments from media coordinators and communication teams to intensify awareness campaigns, membership mobilization, and strategic media engagements aimed at projecting the ideals and vision of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) to Nigerians across all levels. The Principal disclosed that the management has intensified preparations ahead of the forthcoming WAEC, NECO, and other internal examinations through extra coaching classes, continuous assessments, strict supervision, and moral guidance for students. He emphasized that the school has zero tolerance for examination malpractice, cultism, bullying, drug abuse, and every form of anti-social behavior capable of destroying the future of young people. In a strongly worded advisory to students, Mr. Mmaabu encouraged them to remain focused, disciplined, prayerful, and committed to their studies, reminding them that success is built on hard work, determination, and positive character. The ONN media team observed that under the current administration, Eleme National College has experienced visible improvements in discipline, staff coordination, student-teacher relationship, sanitation, and overall school administration. Teachers were seen actively engaged in academic activities, while students displayed confidence, respect, and enthusiasm towards learning. The Principal also highlighted the importance of sports and extracurricular activities in shaping students into complete individuals. He reflected on the recently concluded 26th Annual Inter-House Sports Competition, which he described as a historic and successful event that united parents, teachers, students, and stakeholders in the spirit of healthy competition and community development. He commended the support of prominent stakeholders, traditional rulers, parents, and education lovers who have continued to stand by the school through encouragements and contributions. He particularly appreciated personalities such as Chief Dr. Emmanuel Igwe Oluka Nwafor and other notable leaders for their immense roles in promoting educational growth within the institution. During the interactive session, the Principal passionately appealed to government agencies, old students, philanthropists, corporate organizations, and public spirited individuals to support the school in addressing critical infrastructural challenges such as perimeter fencing, water supply, classroom rehabilitation, toilet facilities, sports equipment, and teachers’ welfare. Educational observers have continued to rate Eleme National College among the fastest improving public secondary schools in Rivers State, owing to its renewed administrative drive, peaceful learning environment, and dedication towards raising future leaders. The ONN media crew further described the institution as a school steadily redefining educational standards in the region through discipline, innovation, unity, and purposeful leadership. Indeed, the atmosphere surrounding the school today reflects confidence, hope, and progress. Parents are increasingly expressing satisfaction with the conduct and academic growth of their children, while students themselves appear more determined to pursue excellence both inside and outside the classroom. The media chat also revealed the Principal’s long-term vision of transforming Eleme National College into a nationally recognized institution known for academic distinction, moral standards, sporting excellence, and community impact. There is no doubt that the current leadership of Mr. Uebari Mmaabu has brought renewed energy, direction, and credibility to the school system. His administrative style, anchored on discipline, teamwork, continuity, and inclusiveness, is gradually repositioning the institution for greater achievements. As students prepare to write their examinations, stakeholders have expressed optimism that Eleme National College will continue to record excellent results and produce students capable of competing favorably anywhere in the country. Without exaggeration, the school’s progress today stands as evidence that visionary leadership, committed teachers, supportive parents, and disciplined students remain the true foundation of quality education. FUBARA TILL 2031: THE VOICE OF RIVERS PEOPLE MUST PREVAIL Since the return of democracy in 1999, the people of Rivers State have consistently upheld the democratic principle that every duly elected governor deserves the constitutional opportunity to complete two terms in office, provided the mandate of the people remains intact. Today, the overwhelming voice across the state is clear and unmistakable: His Excellency, Siminalayi Fubara, must be supported to continue the good work he has started till 2031. The purchase of the second-term interest form for Governor Fubara by critical stakeholders and respected leaders across Rivers State is not merely a political activity; it is a bold affirmation of confidence in his leadership, humility, courage, and commitment to the development of the state. It reflects the genuine will of Rivers people who have continued to stand solidly behind their governor despite political distractions and unnecessary tensions. The truth remains that the only substantial agreement that truly matters today is the sacred agreement between Governor Fubara and the people of Rivers State. That agreement was sealed through the ballot box and strengthened daily by the governor’s people-oriented leadership, peaceful disposition, and dedication to governance. Rivers people voted for continuity, stability, and progress, and they deserve to see that mandate protected and respected till the completion of a second term in 2031. Across the state, citizens have continued to express satisfaction with the governor’s calm approach to governance, infrastructural development efforts, support for civil servants, youth inclusion, and commitment to maintaining peace despite provocations. Rather than descend into unnecessary political warfare, Governor Fubara has consistently chosen the path of maturity, restraint, and responsible leadership. It is therefore disturbing that some desperate political actors continue to sponsor impeachment threats and destabilization plots against a governor who enjoys massive grassroots support. Such threats are not only empty and anti-democratic, but they also represent a dangerous assault on the collective mandate freely given by Rivers people. Democracy must never be reduced to a tool for intimidation or political vendetta. Those who seek to create chaos in Rivers State must understand that the stability of the state is more important than individual political interests. Rivers people are politically conscious and can clearly distinguish between governance and unnecessary power struggles. What the people desire at this critical time is peace, development, unity, and continuity — not endless political battles capable of slowing down governance and economic growth. Governor Fubara has demonstrated uncommon patience and statesmanship in the face of political pressure. Rather than engage in bitterness, he has remained focused on delivering democratic dividends to the people. This maturity has earned him admiration across political, ethnic, and religious lines within and outside Rivers State. The call for Fubara till 2031 is therefore not a mere slogan; it is the democratic aspiration of Rivers people who believe that equity, fairness, and constitutional order must prevail. Every governor since 1999 has enjoyed the opportunity of two terms, and Governor Fubara should not be treated differently simply because he chooses peace over confrontation. Stakeholders, traditional rulers, youth groups, women organizations, political associates, and ordinary citizens must continue to rally around the governor to protect the mandate of the people. Rivers State belongs to Rivers people, not to a few political merchants seeking relevance through manufactured crises. History will always remember those who stood on the side of democracy, justice, and the people’s will. At this defining moment, the people of Rivers State have spoken clearly: Governor Siminalayi Fubara must be allowed to complete his constitutional eight years in office in peace, dignity, and stability. DLA: A NEW DAWN IN NIGERIA’S POLITICAL LANDSCAPE UNDER MEMEH SAMUEL In a nation long burdened by political uncertainty, leadership inconsistencies, and ideological drift, the emergence and consolidation of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) under the astute leadership of Barrister Memeh Samuel signals a refreshing and necessary shift in Nigeria’s democratic journey. At a time when many political platforms struggle with internal crises, legitimacy questions, and fractured leadership structures, DLA stands tall as a party defined by clarity of purpose, institutional discipline, and credible leadership tissues that bind its vision together. It is not merely another political platform—it is a movement anchored on integrity, inclusiveness, and national rebirth. Barr. Memeh Samuel, as National Chairman, has demonstrated uncommon political will, administrative competence, and a unifying spirit that has repositioned the DLA as a formidable force in Nigeria’s political arena. His leadership reflects a deep understanding of Nigeria’s socio-political complexities, coupled with a resolute commitment to building a party that genuinely represents the aspirations of the people. Unlike many legacy parties plagued by internal contradictions, DLA has distinguished itself as the only political party with clear legitimacy and cohesive leadership structure, providing Nigerians with a credible alternative. The party’s ideological foundation is rooted in service, accountability, youth inclusion, and equitable development—principles that resonate strongly with the yearnings of the masses. As Nigeria approaches another critical phase in its democratic evolution, DLA has boldly declared its readiness to contest and provide a viable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. With a well-articulated roadmap, grassroots mobilization strategy, and a growing national acceptance, DLA is not just preparing to participate—it is prepared to compete and win. The party’s readiness is evident in its expanding structures across states, its engagement with key stakeholders, and its commitment to issue-based politics rather than personality-driven campaigns. DLA seeks to restore confidence in governance by prioritizing economic revitalization, security, social welfare, and institutional reforms that will reposition Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth. This is, therefore, a clarion call to Nigerians—home and abroad—especially political actors, youths, professionals, and all individuals with genuine love for the country, to align with this emerging force. The time has come to move beyond recycled politics and embrace a platform that truly reflects the hopes and aspirations of the people. DLA is open, inclusive, and ready to welcome all Nigerians who desire real change. It offers a level playing field for participation, encourages innovative ideas, and promotes leadership based on merit rather than patronage. It is a party where every voice matters and every contribution counts. Barr. Memeh Samuel deserves commendation for his visionary leadership, tireless efforts, and steadfast commitment to building a party that Nigerians can trust. His courage in steering DLA through formative challenges into a position of national relevance is both admirable and inspiring. Indeed, the Democratic Leadership Alliance represents more than a political alternative—it embodies a national awakening. With the right support from Nigerians, DLA has the capacity to redefine governance, restore public trust, and usher in a new era of prosperity and unity. The future beckons, and DLA is ready. — Distinguished Comrade Nubor Optimist Goteh, Head Media RS/Member, DLA National Media Board
