Crucible Leadership – Hon. Gbarato Baridakara A Pathway To Resilience And Impact

Aug.23, 2025

Written by: Distinguished Comrade Nubor Optimist Goteh, Sogho, Khana LGA Rivers State.

As demand on modern leaders continue to evolve, more and more is expected of workplace leadership. New paradigms are emerging that challenge traditional notions of what it means to lead effectively. One such concept is the notion of "Crucible Leadership." In my opinion according to Hon. Gbarato Baridakara, this has been an under-appreciated and overlooked construct.

Hon. Gbarato Baridakara is the Rivers State APC Youth Leader, Member Governing Council Federal Polytechnic Duara ( Kastina State), a former Students Union Leader, a conscious comrade and a youth Mobilizer in the 23 LGA's of Rivers State and a conscious believers of Leadership driven on purpose as exemplify by His Excellency Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuke Amaechi. I have had many opportunities been under his coach and the sound of his training as a Leader.

I never knew he was a past student Union Leader until when he came for my late Mother's burial where he met with students and students' Leaders . He sat among other dignitaries but when the students started jairating, the aluta spirit fell upon him and moved him straight way in the midst of the students . He advised, those who met him for the first time and everyone was happy. It was like a seminar conference, he emphasised the notion of crucible leadership as a youth and a young follower growing up to become a Leader.

Hon Baridakara Gbarato popularly called " *Dakay* " noted that one of the best predictors of leadership is a person’s ability to find meaning in negative events and to learn from even the most difficult circumstances. In other words, the skills needed to survive adversity and emerge stronger, and even more committed are the same ones associated with extraordinary leaders.

What then is crucible Leadership?

Crucible leadership is the art of leading through adversity, personal transformation, and resilience. Leaders who embody crucible leadership have often faced significant personal or professional trials or hardships that have tested their perseverance, character, and adaptability.

Crucible moments are the turning points in a leader's journey, characterized by setbacks, failures, or profound personal experiences. These moments force leaders to confront their limitations, adapt their strategies, and reassess their values. The crucible experience becomes a catalyst for introspection, leading to a deeper understanding of one's strengths, weaknesses, and purpose.

Navigating the crucible moments

Like metal undergoing a transformation from intense heat and pressure, people change and grow when faced with difficult circumstances. As those who demonstrate crucible leadership go through their own challenges, these challenges define their strength, adaptability, and potential.

Crucible Leaders don't just survive these tough situations they find ways to thrive. They come out of these experiences as more capable and compassionate Leaders, with a better grasp of who they are, a heightened ability to understand others' feelings and perspectives, and a knack for handling complex problems with wisdom.

The journey through their personal crucible(s) molds their leadership approach, enabling them to be more deeply connected with their teams to make thoughtful choices based on their firsthand knowledge of conquering hardships.

Strength from struggle?

I have had the privilege of working with many Leaders like I earlier mentioned but my recent studying of Hon. Gbarato Baridakara aka Dakay, Leadership trait endears me to be more focused on *Crucible Leadership* as it a successful trait in Leadership adopted by professionals both White and Black, international and Indigenous NGOs, faith Base Organization and people who are focused on delivering purposeful Leadership for the benefits of the majority.
One theme that comes up repeatedly, and which I address in my personal journal as a young Leader and learner is how to be Resilient on Your Leadership path.

Facing Barriers, Standing up to face your fears , being disciplined in the heat of adversity and maintaining a position of standing for what is fair and just especially in a society where most people are driven by personal gains makes you a phenomenal Leader *(principle of Crucible Leadership)*.

Key principles of crucible Leadership

Resilience as a Foundation – Resilience is an essential ingredient for anyone’s career development and career management. Some people think that they may only have a certain amount of resiliency – but I think it’s something that we can learn and develop. Crucible leaders develop unique forms of stamina and resilience that stem from their ability to withstand adversity, bounce back from setbacks, and maintain a positive outlook even in the face of challenges.

Authenticity – Authenticity can be risky. Many people downplay who they actually are, and actively cover up aspects of their identities that they believe are unwelcome and stigmatized. Finding ways to live their true lives becomes a source of strength for crucible Leaders. They openly (but selectively) share their experiences, failures, and personal growth journeys, fostering a culture of authenticity and trust within their teams.

Empathy and Compassion Having navigated their own crucibles, these Leaders possess a deep sense of empathy and compassion. They share in the challenges of others and offer genuine support, creating an environment of mutual understanding.

Adaptive Decision-Making Crucible experiences are not often “do or die,” so these leaders develop flexible thinking and adaptive decision-making. These people had to learn to embrace change, adjust their strategies, and make informed choices even in uncertain situations. It’s recognizing that one size doesn’t fit all within the workplace; just like a business company, what works in a creative company likely isn’t the same approach as for a manufacturing facility or warehouse.

Legacy of Growth – A crucible Leader's journey becomes a source of inspiration for others. They’re motivated by self-development and create an environment that’s conducive to growth and encourages people both personally and professionally. By sharing their growth experiences, they instill a sense of purpose, motivation, and determination to overcome challenges amidst adversity.

Benefits of Crucible Leadership – Crucible leadership offers numerous benefits to Leaders, their teams, and others. For the sake of brevity, I’ll focus on two: enhanced team cohesion and innovation/adaptability.

Enhanced Team Cohesion – By sharing their experiences, crucible Leaders can foster a sense of unity, inclusion, and shared purpose within their teams. People can identify with those struggles and challenges and feel a sense of belonging to something bigger than themselves.

Innovation and Adaptability – The adaptive mindset of crucible leaders encourages a culture of innovation and flexibility, enabling teams to thrive in rapidly changing environments. Through their example, especially when the leader themselves is from an equity-deserving group or inclusive, these leaders set a tone. Team members who can be their authentic selves spend less energy “covering” at work and more time on being innovative and creative.

Embrace your crucible

None of us look forward to adversity or negative events. But, when we live long enough, we’re sure to encounter both. The next time you’re struggling in a difficult chapter or season, above and beyond surviving, if possible, also consider it as a chance to work on your crucible Leadership.

Crucible leadership is often associated with personal growth and transformation, as these leaders draw strength from their challenges and use their experiences to inspire and guide others. It emphasizes authenticity, humility, and a commitment to continuous learning, making it a powerful and impactful approach to leadership.

In a world characterized by constant change, crucible leadership offers a fresh approach to guiding others. We , the young Leaders need to undergo crucible Leadership, we need to be close to our leaders that has gone through the process of crucible Leadership. We must be ready to learn from crucible leaders .

Grow through crucible leadership.

Gaming › Rivers Not Fragile, More Peaceful And United Than Ever. by Optimistic2021(op): 11:58pm On Apr 27, 2025
*RIVERS NOT FRAGILE, MORE PEACEFUL AND UNITED THAN EVER.*

The Simplified Grassroots Mobilizers-SGM said Rivers is not in any Stage of fragile rather it is more peaceful and the people are going about
their normal businesses. The group also described the statement credited to the Rivers Sole Administrator during his meeting with the House of Representatives "both shocking and downright offensive even for the sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, to label the situation in Rivers State as “fragile.” This is a cheap, lazy narrative designed to cover up the political games being played behind the scenes. Rivers people are not fragile — we are strong, resilient, and fiercely united in the face of oppression. What exists in Rivers State today is not fragility but a tension deliberately manufactured by power-hungry politicians desperate to hijack the will of the people for their selfish ends".

He further described the statement as" Political comedy and another episode that Rivers people are tired of"

Speaking at Community Secondary School playing ground , Omuigwe Aluu yesterday during the marriage reception between Mr. Chika and Mrs.Theresa , Hon. Norisia Wilfred Pepple said "For Ibas to suggest the situation needs “delicate handling” is a gross insult to the intelligence and dignity of Rivers people. We don’t need a patronizing caretaker who specializes in dodging responsibility while offering hollow words. What we demand — and what we will fight for — is justice, equity, and the immediate return of our democratic structures. Enough of these cowardly statements designed to suppress legitimate outrage. Rivers people are wide awake, and no amount of sugarcoated rhetoric
will silence us.

According to the group the apology from Vice Admiral Rtd Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas for missing the first committee meeting is nothing but a display of gross irresponsibility and contempt for the people he claims to serve. If he had an ounce of respect for the legislative process or the people’s mandate, he would have honored the first invitation. This habitual ducking of accountability is exactly why Rivers State finds itself in this politically charged situation. The people deserve bold, honest leadership — not a timid administrator handpicked to do the bidding of political godfathers.

The wedding ceremony between Mr/Mrs Chika Theresa at the Peniel Christ Mercy Ministry, Mbodo, Aluu brought dignitaries and old time friends together.

The bride Theresa Paul is the daughter of our Hon. Paul Ogwunte Ogodo, Coordinator of Simplified Grassroots Mobilizers-SGM Andoni LGA and Coordinator of 23 LGAs Coordinators Forum in the State.

Hon. Norisia also used the occasion to thanked all Rivers youth for maintaining the tempo of peace even when they were provokes to angered by some self-aclaimed enemies of the State. He said Rivers is known for Peace and they must kept to that.

" The youth , women and people of Rivers State have spoken loud and in a clear peaceful mannered — that they don't accept an imposed administrator, nor will they tolerate any form of backdoor governance. The days of puppet leadership and political stage plays are over. Rivers people demand their rights, their voice, and a government that truly represents them. And we thanks Mr. President for listening to them."

Speaking further , Hon. Norisia Said what has happened between President Tinubu and his Son Gov. Fubara was longed overdue because there were no way Rivers wouldn't support the center. He said whatever that was discussed is between the Father and his Son was only at the best interest of Rivers people . Says even if the Gov. Was yet to make an official statement of his purported meeting with his father, President Tinubu that he believed it was for the solving and providing lasting solution to the Rivers Crises. He commended the governor for his peaceful disposition and claimness especially his respectful manners to the President and other leaders during the trials time.

Hon. Norisia Wilfred Pepple, is the Special Assistant On Youths And Sports To Governor Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, the Executive Governor Of Rivers State, and also Director General of Simplified Grassroots Mobilizers-SGM, a Political pressure group mobilising and garvanising Rivers State electorates across the 23 LGAs and 319 Wards for the governor. Their aims and objectives are sample and Simplified whether or not the governor will seek reelections or not , they are garvanising and educating the people on the governor's Programs and Projects and while the people must always stand with His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS.

Earlier before Hon. Norisia and his team attended the marriage ceremony at Aluu, he led the Simplified Grassroots Mobilizers-SGM Leadership and members to the funeral service of late Elder (Warisenibo) Tamunokuro Dango Nengisa, JP (aged 98) at Our Saviour's Christ Army Church Okrika LGA .

SIMPLIFIED GRASSROOTS MOBILIZERS-SGM PASSES VOTE OF CONFIDENCE ON GOVERNOR FUBARA, DECLARES LOYALTY, URGES MEMBERS FOR REBUILDING PROCESS.

APRIL 18, 2025

A frontline Political pressure group mobilising and garvanising Rivers electorates across the 23 LGAs in the State, Simplified Grassroots Mobilizers-SGM has passed a vote of confidence on the Executive Governor of Rivers State , His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS for his exceptional astute leadership , good governance and peaceful deposition that has brought unprecedented economic growth and sustainable infrastructural development to the state.

This is contained in a press release signed on Friday April 18th ,2025 in Portharcourt by the group’s Director General, Hon. Norisia Wilfred Pepple asserting that having fully assessed the massive laudable sustainable projects executed within the two years in office, the group expressed total satisfaction that Governor Fubara has delivered creditably well in line with his campaign promises to the people of Rivers State as his achievements are highly remarkable.

The decision of group was also as a results of the several attestation by even the Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, the Rivers sole Administrator on his toured across the 23 LGAs in the State , telling the whole world the truth about people oriented projects executed by His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS.

According to Norisia, Governor Fubara has succeeded in all sectors – education, health, security, economy, infrastructure, agriculture/agribusiness, youth, sports development and in uniting Rivers people as a true man of peace where past administrations had failed abysmally.

The group Director General, Hon. Norisia, also commended governor Fubara for the success recorded that surpassed all pretences even his enemies couldn't hide it.

He added governor Fubara’s visionary leadership has rejuvenated agriculture as an alternative revenue generation in the wake of dwindling oil revenue in the global markets, adding that, “As part of the effort to engage, especially the youths in agriculture, Governor Fubara was about to set up Youth Empowerment in Agribusiness Programme (YEAP) to impact youths through agricultural value chains, addressing youth unemployment by channeling them towards productive ventures.”

He, extolled governor Fubara’s achievement in the education sector where massive investment has been put in place at all levels to revive education in the state.

“His vision of transforming Rivers State to an education tourism hub in Nigeria was yielding positive results as over 70% out-of-school children were enjoying qualitative education in the state. We salute Governor Fubara’s courageous abilities to take the responsibility to see that all children can get access to free qualitative education irrespective of their family income. We also appreciate him for the prompt payment of salaries to civil servants, while pensioners receive their gratuity as at when due.”

Enumerating some of his achievements in office, the group Director General said Fubara's administration has made tremendous efforts in practically all the sectors, including the construction of rural and urban roads, assuring that he will do more to make Rivers a greater state when he comes back.

He said although some people are not happy that his administration is doing things differently from the past, he will continue to ensure that the right thing is done, for the overall good of the state because he is serving the people .

The group, gave governor Fubara a well over 95 per cent score to the governor in his handling of economic transformation in Rivers State despite the Political trivial he encountered from his first day in office as governor.

Simplified Grassroots Mobilizers-SGM further expressed their delight in Governor Fubara’s financial prudence and efficacious leadership virtue coupled with his transparency, accountability, and openness policies adopted, which resulted in the IGR rapid growth compared to what was being generated and declared by the past administration.

“This demonstrates Governor Fubara’s capacity and tenacity to proffer plausible solutions to various challenges confronting the state by meeting the needs of the citizens without mortgaging the future generations,” he added.

Speaking further, SGM stated that governor Fubara was sparing no effort in ensuring that the good people of Rivers State have limitless access to a good healthcare system, noting that, “Adequate provision of world-class medical and functional healthcare facilities have been provided in all zones to improve the health and well-being of the citizens in the state.”

He lauded Fubara’s healthcare initiative in ensuring that everyone can access free healthcare within one kilometre in their various domains in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 3) to achieve universal health coverage for all.

Furthermore, Hon. Norisia Wilfred Pepple expressed his admiration for Governor Fubara in taking as many youths as possible off the streets as another way of economic inclusion and expansion of good governance in Rivers State, empowering and giving millions of young people the chance to become entrepreneurs, and self-employed.

The group, described His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, the Executive Governor of Rivers State as a promise keeper and a record-breaker in fulfilling his campaign promises to the good people of Rivers State, who where enjoying the dividends of democracy since the resumption of office before the unconstitutional declaration of State of emergency in the State.

Norisia further said, governor Fubara remains a role model in Nigeria, that is worthy of emulation and that his efforts of moving the state from poverty to prosperity within a short space of time in office are laudable.

The group affirmed that the Governor Siminalayi Fubara-led administration was displaying what can only be regarded as a remarkable example of effective leadership. “If 80 per cent of our leaders are like Governor Siminalayi Fubara in mindset and motivation, Nigeria will be an attractive country for many investors local and international,” he stated.

He then complimented Governor Fubara’s bold initiatives and decision-making policy to restore the state’s economic growth, reshape the public sector investment and rebuild public infrastructure services within two years in office.

According to the group in the release, Rivers State Honourables and members of the State House of Assembly under the former speakership of Rt. Hon. Okon Jumbo are highly commended for their support, backing, and belief in the leadership qualities of Governor Fubara to honour his democratic mandate, fulfil his campaign promises to build a strong economy, deliver first-class public services, but the citizens and their welfare first over politics.

The group also salute governor Fubara’s political will, wisdom, and noble instincts to make deliberate decisions that affect the lives of ordinary citizens positively and his can-do attitude to unite the State by delivering dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

Hon. Norisia, stated categorically that the group is very confident that Governor Fubara will fulfill all his campaign promises, delivering his people’s mandate and the dividends of democracy for the betterment of all, urging all citizens of Rivers State to continue to support Governor Fubara in his effort to transforming the state to an enviable height.

The Director General Hon. Norisia emphasised that as a result of Governor Fubara’s sterling performance, the group passed a vote of confidence on him and pledge their unwavering loyalty and support for his administration as he is working tirelessly in delivering his campaign promises to the good people of Rivers State.

“Governor Fubara is the epitome of a leader whose integrity, honesty, and selfless service to mankind have been a source of inspiration and hope to Nigerians both at home and abroad,” he added.

In the same vein, the group condemns the illegal suspension of Governor Fubara, says it is unconstitutional and remains unacceptable.

He added, the APC led administration and President Tinubu were misled and misinformed about the true state of affairs in the State, necessitating the undue process and unconstitutional removals of an elected Governor's. Says there's urgent need for concerted efforts by the President to now know as abreast by Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas of the true state of affairs with the view to bringing Fubara back .

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should simply adhere to the Nigeria Constitution he claimed to uphold and allow democracy to prevail in Rivers State by restoring Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Let the President also bear in mind that the preeminent goal of a political party is to capture power through democratic elections and not declaring a state of emergency in a peaceful Rivers State.

Norisia stated that SGM remains united under his leadership , warning those trying to destabilise the state with divisive comments to stay clear as he will not allow anyone to destabilize the Fubara government.
"Our goal is simple; hence, we have come together and brace ourselves for the challenges we now found ourselves and in the coming months and years,” Norisia stated.

The group then called on well-meaning Nigerians in the Diaspora, local and foreign investors who have embraced the great business incentives opportunities under Governor Fubara-led administration in offering to make Rivers State attractive as an economic environment for investment to speak up against the injustice done to Rivers people and the unconstitutional declaration of State of emergency and suspension of His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara.

“Governor Fubara was commended for his effort to turn Rivers State into a number one investment destination in Nigeria, where investors are guaranteed good returns on their investments,” the DG said.

Politics › Rivers Sole Administrator Lacks Constitutional Power To Cancel Any Procurement by Optimistic2021(op): 7:47pm On Apr 07, 2025
PRESS STATEMENT BY SIMPLIFIED GRASSROOTS MOBILIZERS-SGM.

SUNDAY 6TH APRIL, 2025.

RIVERS IMPOSED SOLE ADMINISTRATOR, VICE ADMIRAL(RTD) IBOK-ETE EKWE IBAS , LACKS THE LEGAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY TO CANCEL ANY PROCUREMENT AND TENDER PROCESS ES BY THE RIVERS GOVERNMENT AND TO REPRESENT APPROPRIATION BILL FOR 2025 AND BUDGET IMPLEMENTATION.

Gentlemen of the press

The attention of the Leadership of Simplified Grassroots Mobilizers-SGM, has drawn to a purported Government Special Announcement issued by Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas through Prof. Ibibia Worika, cancelling all procurement and tender processes by the Rivers State Government under His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS. Also on Thursday the third of April, 2025 when some Rivers National Assembly Members visited the Sole Administrator in Portharcourt, Government house, he assured them of representing the Appropriation Bill for 2025 and budget implementation.

Our takes on these decision by the Rivers State sole Administrator is that , the sole Administrator does not have the locus , he does have the right to cancelled any project or contract Executed by the Executive Governor Of Rivers State His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS. This is because there was no basics whatsoever for even the imposition of the sole Administrator on Rivers people:

1. The Issuer of the Command Is Not the Legitimate Government of Rivers State:
The first and most critical observation is that Vice Admiral Ibas is not the constitutionally recognized Governor of Rivers State. Therefore, he lacks the legal authority to issue executive directives on behalf of the state.

Citing the Nigerian Constitution:

Section 176(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) clearly states:
“There shall be for each State of the Federation a Governor who shall be the Chief Executive of that State.”

Section 188–189 outlines the process for removing a Governor, and none of these provisions were followed in removing Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

We are saying according to our constitution that :
Vice Admiral Ibas’ actions are ultra vires—that is, beyond the powers conferred by law. His directives have no legal standing under the Nigerian Constitution.

2. *Misinterpretation and Misuse of the Supreme Court Judgment*

The announcement claims to act "in adherence to the Supreme Court judgment in Suit No. CA/ABJ/CV/133/2024," yet the Supreme Court did not rule in favor of federal takeover or the appointment of an administrator. The ruling pertained to the recognition of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, and the need for an appropriation law, not the dissolution of the executive arm or empowerment of a sole administrator.

Citing Legal Context:

The Supreme Court’s role is to interpret the law, not to confer executive power on unelected persons.

The judgment does not override Sections 176–201 of the Constitution which provide for the democratic governance of states.

This announcement by Vice Admiral Ibas and Prof. Ibibia both misrepresents the intent and scope of the Supreme Court’s judgment.

3. The Cancellation of Procurement Processes .

Only the Governor has the power to direct state MDAs under the Public Procurement Law of Rivers State and other enabling laws.

Citing Rivers State Law:

The Rivers State Public Procurement Law, 2008, provides that: “The Governor shall constitute the State Procurement Council, and the Bureau shall report to the Governor.”

Cancelling procurement processes and directing MDAs to refund fees is an executive function reserved for the Governor.

Any cancellation or refund directive given by an individual without constitutional authority is not binding and may be challenged in court.

4. Use of “Secretary to the State Government” Title

If Prof. Ibibia Worika remains the SSG under Governor Fubara, his involvement in this announcement may indicate political pressure or compromise, or this title may be misused by the administrator’s camp.

Citing the Constitution:

The SSG is appointed by the Governor, not by any federal appointee or administrator.

Unless confirmed to have been re-appointed under the current (illegal) arrangement, any official using this title to validate an unconstitutional order is aiding an illegality.

5. Implications for Rule of Law and Federalism

This directive represents a dangerous encroachment on Nigeria’s federal structure, threatening the autonomy of states.

Citing the Constitution:

Section 2(2): “Nigeria shall be a Federation consisting of States and a Federal Capital Territory.”

Section 4(6): “The legislative powers of a state shall be vested in the House of Assembly.”

There is no constitutional provision for the President or any federal actor to unilaterally suspend a state’s democratic structures and appoint a “Sole Administrator.” Such actions violate Nigeria’s federal character and democratic values.

Final Position

The directive titled “Government Special Announcement” is constitutional nullity. It lacks:

Legitimate authority

Due process

Constitutional backing

This attempt to cancel financial processes, refund fees, and control the machinery of state is a blatant violation of the Nigerian Constitution, federal principles, and democratic governance. It should be resisted lawfully and challenged in court by affected parties and the people of Rivers State.

ON THE REPRESENTATION OF APPROPRIATION BILL FOR 2025 AND BUDGET IMPLEMENTATION:

1. Appropriation Bill for 2025 and Budget Implementation

While budgeting is crucial for governance, the legitimacy of any budget presented by an appointed administrator (rather than an elected Governor) raises serious constitutional questions.

Citing the Constitution:

Section 121 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) clearly states: “There shall be prepared and laid before the House of Assembly of the State by the Governor of the State at any time before the commencement of each financial year estimates of the revenues and expenditure of the State for the next following financial year.”

This raises the question: Is the Administrator acting ultra vires by assuming the role of an elected Governor?

Rivers State is currently under federal intervention following political instability. However, the imposition of an “Administrator” is not a provision of the Nigerian Constitution. The Constitution only provides for the declaration of a state of emergency (Section 305), and even then, it does not authorize the replacement of an elected Governor with a military administrator.

2. Creation of Employment and Technological Advancement

The Economic development and job creation are commendable goals, but they must be pursued within constitutional boundaries. Any developmental initiative must stem from a democratically legitimate process.

Citing the Constitution:

Section 14(2)(b): “The security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.”

However, without democratic legitimacy, such efforts lack moral and constitutional grounding.

3. Restoration of Law and Order

Restoring peace is important, it's crucial to examine the means by which this is done. A de facto military-style administration undermines democratic structures.

Constitutional Gap: No section of the Constitution supports the President’s power to suspend a State Governor or install an Administrator outside of a declared and properly ratified state of emergency, which must be approved by the National Assembly per Section 305(6).

4. Supreme Court Verdict and Budget Review

The Supreme Court ruling was on the legality of a parallel legislative assembly and the Governor's power to present a budget. It did not validate the dissolution of the Rivers State Executive or justify a federal takeover.

The ongoing conflict between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike’s loyalists has caused political paralysis. However, the resolution must occur within constitutional parameters—not via federal override.

5. Legislative Support for the Administrator’s Budget

The Rivers State National Assembly caucus pledging allegiance to an unelected administrator raises ethical and constitutional concerns. Their duty lies with their constituents, not with an interim arrangement outside the framework of the Constitution.

Citing the Constitution:

Section 4(6): “The legislative powers of a State shall be vested in the House of Assembly of the State.”

This means that the legitimacy of budgeting and lawmaking cannot reside in Abuja or with federal appointees, but with the duly elected Rivers State Assembly, regardless of internal crisis.

6. Peace Building, Dialogue, and Reconciliation

While commendable, peace-building efforts must be inclusive, democratic, and constitutional. Community engagement should not be a smokescreen for the erosion of democratic institutions.

Citing the Constitution:

Section 17(1): “The State social order is founded on ideals of Freedom, Equality and Justice.”

These values cannot be upheld by military-style interventions that bypass the electorate.

Our Position:

Vice Admiral Ibas' intentions may appear noble on the surface, but his administration is constitutionally questionable. Rivers State has not had a properly declared state of emergency under Section 305, yet an administrator—who was not elected—is issuing budgets and speaking as head of the executive.

Nigeria is a constitutional democracy. Any action outside of due constitutional process, no matter how well-intentioned, must be challenged. The people of Rivers State deserve peace, yes—but also justice, rule of law, and the preservation of their democratic rights.

PRESS CONFERENCE

SIMPLIFIED GRASSROOT MOBILIZERS (SGM)
March 26, 2025

SGM....... SOLIDARITY FOR SIM!
SGM....... SOLIDARITY FOR SIM!
SOLIDARITY FOR SIM....... RIVERS FIRST!

Ladies and gentlemen of the press, distinguished guests, and fellow patriots, distinguish leaders and members of SGM.

We welcome you all to this urgent press conference. Today, democracy is under attack in Rivers State, and we, the Simplified Grassroot Mobilizers (SGM), stand firm in total rejection of the unconstitutional State of Emergency imposed on our dear state.

This reckless decision is nothing but a blatant power grab aimed at dismantling the democratically elected government of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS. We will not sit back and allow political godfathers and federal enforcers to trample on our rights, our votes, and our democracy!

WE STAND WITH GOVERNOR SIMINALAYI FUBARA, GSSRS
NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER!

The Simplified Grassroot Mobilizers (SGM) reaffirm our unwavering loyalty to His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS—a leader who has remained resolute in defending Rivers people against political hijackers.

We reject all unconstitutional attempts to replace our governor with a puppet caretaker government!

Rivers State belongs to the people, NOT to political godfathers.

We will never accept an illegally imposed sole administrator.

We condemn all backdoor political deals designed to enslave Rivers State.

WE DO NOT ACCEPT THIS STATE OF EMERGENCY – IT VIOLATES THE CONSTITUTION!

Let it be known: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has violated the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria by forcefully imposing a State of Emergency without following due process.

CONSTITUTIONAL VIOLATION:

Section 305 of the Constitution clearly states that a State of Emergency must be approved by a two-thirds majority of the National Assembly.

A mere voice vote is unacceptable! Two-thirds majority cannot be determined by shouting “aye” or “nay” in a closed-door session.

The National Assembly must reconvene, conduct a proper headcount vote, and broadcast it live for Nigerians and the world to see!

OUR DEMANDS DEMOCRACY MUST PREVAIL!

We, the Simplified Grassroot Mobilizers (SGM), demand the following:

1. A Full and Transparent Headcount Vote in the National Assembly – We call on all senators and representatives to vote openly on live national television so that Nigerians can determine whether this illegal declaration meets constitutional requirements.

2. Immediate Reversal of the State of Emergency This illegal act must be nullified immediately! Rivers State is not in crisis, and no justification exists for such extreme measures.

3. Respect for Constitutional Democracy Any attempt to force this unconstitutional act without a proper vote amounts to treason against the Nigerian people.

4. National and International Scrutiny We call on:

The United Nations (UN)

ECOWAS and the African Union (AU)

The European Union (EU)

The United States and all global defenders of democracy
to take immediate notice of this dangerous power grab and intervene before Nigeria slides into dictatorship.

RIVERS STATE BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE – NOT TO POLITICAL GODFATHERS!

This illegal emergency declaration is a desperate and reckless power grab by the Tinubu-Wike-Ibas alliance to seize Rivers State by force.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara was freely elected by the people of Rivers State!
We will never accept a political imposition!
We will never bow to unconstitutional oppression!

WARNING TO PRESIDENT TINUBU – DO NOT DESTROY DEMOCRACY!

We issue this final warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his enablers:

Nigeria is NOT your personal empire!

You MUST reverse this illegal decision immediately!

You MUST respect the constitution and democratic rights of Rivers people!

You MUST stop pushing Nigeria toward an avoidable crisis!

If this injustice is allowed to stand, Nigeria’s democracy is in grave danger. Today, it is Rivers State. Tomorrow, it could be any other state!

OUR RESOLVE: NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER!

We, the Simplified Grassroot Mobilizers, remain committed to peaceful but firm resistance against this unconstitutional act.

OUR STAND:

✔️ We reject and resist the illegal State of Emergency.
✔️ We stand firm with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS.

Hon. Norisia Wilfred Pepple, Director General Simplified Grassroots Mobilizers-SGM,
On behalf of the National Working Committee SGM

Lied Against, He remained calm

Disrespected, He remained calm.

Called all sorts of name, He remained calm

They ganged up against him, he knows yet he remained calm

They've collected his mandate that Rivers people gave him without one blood shed, yet he is still calm.

Ladies and gentlemen, it can only be Sir(Dr) Siminalayi Fubara, and all this calmness is not an act of fear, but to maintain peace for the greater good of all Rivers people.

Politics › Rivers: Tinubu’s Sole Administrator Moves To Impose Unconstitutional Lga Appoint by Optimistic2021(op): 6:17pm On Mar 23, 2025
RIVERS: TINUBU’S SOLE ADMINISTRATOR MOVES TO IMPOSE UNCONSTITUTIONAL LGA APPOINTMENTS

Fresh concerns have emerged over an alleged plan by President Bola Tinubu’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas to announce new Local Government Area (LGA) Administrators tomorrow, despite the clear provisions of the Nigerian Constitution and the recent Supreme Court judgment affirming the autonomy of LGAs.

This move, if carried out, would amount to a blatant disregard for democratic principles and a violation of the Supreme Court’s ruling, which reaffirmed that local governments must be governed by elected officials, not handpicked appointees.

Sources indicate that names of supposed administrators have already been compiled, raising fears of an orchestrated attempt to subvert the will of the people. Such actions could plunge the local government system into further crisis, setting a dangerous precedent for executive overreach.

Nigerians must remain vigilant against this unconstitutional maneuver, as it threatens the foundation of grassroots democracy. Any attempt to impose unelected administrators on LGAs must be met with firm resistance from law-abiding citizens, political stakeholders, and civil society groups.

Will the rule of law prevail, or will impunity reign? The next 24 hours will be crucial in determining whether democracy holds firm or is trampled upon.

Politics › State Of Emergency In Rivers State: The Truth Unfolds Amidst Presidential Falseh by Optimistic2021(op): 2:47pm On Mar 23, 2025
STATE OF EMERGENCY IN RIVERS STATE:
THE TRUTH UNFOLDS AMIDST PRESIDENTIAL FALSEHOODS

By Ledogo Raymond

In what can only be described as a brazen abuse of power, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a State of Emergency in Rivers State and suspended an entire government, citing a "breakdown of law and order." The justifications? That Governor Siminalayi Fubara had allegedly refused to rebuild the Rivers State House of Assembly complex over 14 months after its demolition and had deliberately failed to present the 2025 budget to the House of Assembly in compliance with the Supreme Court’s ruling. That there are pipeline explosions and that people are killing themselves.

In just less than one week, these allegations, however, are now crumbling like a house of cards, and the truth is coming to light.

Governor Fubara is being vindicated, as all accusations against him are being exposed as politically motivated fabrications.

From the moment Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), the imposed Sole Administrator, landed in Port Harcourt, he confirmed what many had always known, Rivers State is calm and peaceful. There was no widespread violence, no visible crisis, and certainly no breakdown of law and order to justify Tinubu’s draconian intervention.

This revelation alone annihilates the very foundation of the president’s decision. If the state was truly in turmoil, as Tinubu and his co-travelers had claimed, why is the Sole Administrator’s own remark contradicting that narrative? The reality is simple: the state of emergency was never about peace or stability, it was about power, control, and money.

One of the major accusations made by the President against Governor Fubara, as contained in his live broadcast while imposing martial law on Rivers State, was that the Governor refused to rebuild the State House of Assembly complex fourteen months after demolition. Yet, when the Sole Administrator visited the construction site on Saturday, he confirmed that work was right on schedule and fully paid for by Governor Fubara. This revelation raises serious and uncomfortable questions: Was President Tinubu deliberately misled by his close ally, Nyesom Wike? Was this entire charade merely a well-orchestrated political ploy to weaken Fubara’s administration ahead of the 2027 election? Why did Tinubu not verify the facts before making such a drastic decision? The answer is becoming clearer by the day: this shenanigan was never about governance or the peace of Rivers State, it was about Wike’s desperate attempt to hold Rivers State hostage for Tinubu.

Another sinister allegation leveled against Fubara was that he “teleguided” the bombing of the Trans-Niger pipeline in Bodo. A baseless claim, considering that Bodo is not even an Ijaw community, where previous threats had reportedly emerged. In fact, in an AIT on-site assessment and report, Ogoni youths, including known Wike supporters, dissociated the explosion from the current political impasse in the state, linking it with issues of pipeline contract.

The federal government dragging Governor Fubara into the incident reeks of a deliberate setup to paint the Governor as an instigator of economic sabotage, conveniently giving the federal government an excuse to intervene militarily and seize control of Rivers State’s resources. If this incident is thoroughly investigated, it may reveal an even more damning truth, that the sabotage was either a hoax or orchestrated by those who wanted Fubara out of the way.

Perhaps the most telling evidence of this political heist is the sudden release of Rivers State’s withheld allocation to the Sole Administrator.

The Supreme Court had ordered that federal allocations be withheld until an Appropriation Law was enacted. Yet, despite the absence of such a law, the federal government rushed to release the funds, not to the legally elected governor, but to an imposed Sole Administrator. This raises a damning question: Was the whole purpose of this unconstitutional intervention simply to seize control of Rivers State’s treasury?

By bypassing Governor Fubara and funneling the state’s resources through their proxy, the Tinubu administration has exposed its true intentions, financial control, not governance, not peace.

Despite the federal government’s deafening silence in the face of widespread condemnation, the truth is emerging faster than they can suppress it. Every lie they concocted is unraveling, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara is standing taller than ever.

This is not just a political struggle; it is a battle against tyranny, deceit, and the reckless subversion of democracy. Tinubu, Wike, and their collaborators may have scripted this entire episode, but they have underestimated the will of Rivers people and the inevitability of truth.

The days ahead will tell the full story. And when they do, history will remember this as the moment the oppressors fell, and justice prevailed.
