Visa Alert!

• 22nd February 2022: Application for the interview/application appointment
• 10th March 2023: Appointment Email Confirmation for April
• 6th April 2023: Interview Date/ Visa application submission.
- Submission of required documents including A1 language certificate
• 14th June 2023: Visitation of document verification officer
• 9th November 2023: Document verification notification
• 7th December: The immigration authority (Die Ausländerbehörde) requested for 2 documents.
- Copy of passport data page / ID (Ausweis)
- Informal signed declaration to start a family with the applicant, my wife.
• 5th January 2024: Embassy requests for passport and travel insurance submission via email.
• 11th January 2024: Submits passport and travel insurance to embassy.
• 15th January 2024: Passport with visa received via courier service.

Here are my tips for those currently at the brink of applying:

1. For spouses living in Germany, you can expedite the process by applying for "Nachbeurkundung" at your local Standesamt and submitting the required documents for verification. They have the capacity to kick-start the verification in parallel. This can be done while your spouse in Nigeria awaits the appointment date for the visa application submission.

2. The timing of attending the A1 German language course at Goethe Institute is crucial. It's advisable to aim for complet-ing the A1 certificate a few weeks after you submit your visa application at the embassy.

Good luck to you all!
Congratulations 💃💃💃

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. I really appreciate them.

Hopefully they will visit you this month. Mine was 10 months too. I had my interview in January 2023 but I was visited at the end of October 2023.
I know it isn't easy for you but you will hear from your lawyer soon. Cyberhugs.

Codedboy95:
Hi House, my wife and baby finally joined me in Germany yesterday. Here is our timeline:
I booked a family reunion appointment on June 28th, 2022, thinking that once I arrived in Germany and obtained a Blue Card, the embassy would be compassionate (knowing my wife was pregnant) and fast-track her appointment, but this did not happen.
In November, we decided to try our luck by booking another appointment for her under the Skilled Immigration Act visa category. She went for the appointment but was turned away by Mr. [you know who].
I made several attempts to see if her appointment could be fast-tracked, but the embassy told me point-blank that it was not going to happen. We accepted our fate and decided to wait. After my wife gave birth, we got our little guy his passport and emailed the embassy. They confirmed that they had added him to my wife's appointment.
On August 28th, 2023, my wife and baby finally got an appointment for September 20th, 2023.
oOn October 23rd, I received an email from ABH asking me to submit documents (prior to this, I had called BVA to inquire about the stage of my family's application).
I submitted the documents via email two days later, on October 25th. The next day, October 26th, I received a response saying they had agreed to issue my family's visa and that it was now up to the embassy in Nigeria to approve it (I forwarded this email to the embassy in Nigeria).
On October 31st, the embassy in Nigeria asked us to submit passports and a travel date. They did this the next day and received their stamped visas on November 6th.

I noticed post-appointment, our timeline was a bit fast, this is because lawyer verification was skipped since I am on blue card, Also, I was asked to submit documents via email, if it were to be through post, it could have take an extra week or two for the document submission request mail to get to me and maybe another one or two weeks for them to receive back the documents. It also seems that the office responsible for my application is a bit fast, I think this is because I stay in the outskirt of Berlin and maybe they don’t get much application or they don’t have much workload there.

I hope and pray that everyone waiting on this journey receives good news soon because it is not easy.

Had my interview since February, nothing yet ... Called this morning, the lady on the call didn't even allow me to talk. She just cut me short, saying the consulate will contact me if they have anything for me. They need to work on their call center representative, especially the ladies. The males are friendly and attentive.

It's so sad...
Dealing with lives and family and being complacent about it, is so unfair. Started application since 2021 oooh.

let your spouse call Bundesverwaltungsamt and ask about the status of the visa. I don't really know what to say cos I waited 7months and 2 weeks before my lawyer came for verification,Bundesverwaltungsamt were the only ones answering us.
Thank you very much. He did that already. They responded that the German Consulate in Lagos hasn't contacted them yet. I called the consulate, the lady responded that there's no way they won't have contacted the foreign office ABH... Don't know which is which. Just tired already, but fingers crossed.

Hello, have you done your interview?
Yes, I have. I and my child had our interview in February and since nothing.
TravelRe: General German Work And Family Re-union Visa Enquiries by Optimisticprim: 3:51am On Aug 20, 2023
Absolutely unfair. They won't grant us visitor's visa, yet family reunion visa will take so much time. My marriage is hitting the rock bottom because of the distance. I haven't seen my husband in 1 year and 8 months. Get this, he hasn't met his child in person. He had to wrap up his programme and with his new job he can't just take holiday to come visit.
