I know this is long overdue, But I guess it's better late than never. I believe everyone here is familiar with the process already, but you never can tell who will find this piece useful.
I graduated from University in 2012 with a cgpa of 4.55/5.00. I was practically a novice to the USA school application process then, cos I was all about government scholarships and all (Pressid, Singa etc). For the Pressid scholarship, one can apply to any of the top 20-30 schools in the world. I preferred a US school, and that was the reason I did my GRE in December, 2014 at JKK (that was before I knew about this thread).

My GRE prep and exam
I prepared for my GRE using few materials; the ets official guide, powerprep, Kaplan gre guide (and some other practice materials I downloaded online). I registered for my GRE exam in September, 2014 so I had about 3 months to prepare. I studied for about 2hrs daily using the few guides I could lay my hands on.
On the exam day, my exam was in the form; QVQVQ (quantitative was my experimental section).I did fairly well in the quantitative section but I wasn't too convenient with my performance on the verbal. I eventually had: Q157, V147 and AW 3.5.
I got to know about this thread when I gave rewriting the GRE a thought. I also joined a GRE whatsapp group I ran into on nairaland. In the whatsapp group, we shared challenging questions, fastest approach to solving a question and other hints (I guess the facebook group should suffice).
NB I think for me to have obtained a 304 GRE score using those materials, anyone here can readily get more than 320 using the materials outlined here (you guys here are bosses, i doff my hat), and of course there’s SirRiddy and Danjaninja to always run to for hints if one hits a gridlock.

School search
Another important aspect of grad school application is the school search. Boss SirRiddy and Oga DanjaNinja have done justice to this over and over and I feel there's nothing new for me to say. The only thing I just feel I should add is that we should endeavour to go through as many school websites as possible. Going through the general website is not enough; we should also go through individual departmental websites, check for departmental entry requirements (this sometimes defers from the graduate school requirements, as it could be more stringent). We should also go through faculty researches and mail faculties who have researches that suit our interest (I know Oga Riddy talks about this a lot).
My research interest is organic synthesis. I went through departmental websites of schools, noting their entry requirements, GPA (mostly 3.0 as I considered going in directly for my phd), GRE (one has to check this carefully as some schools will recommend the subject test, optional for some and not required by others), Statement of Purpose (I had to send this out to be reviewed by some of my friends and I also sent it to some people on NL to help critique it).

Transcript
It takes my school about a week or two to process transcript, after which they will notify one for pick-up. They don't give transcript to students, they will only release the transcript to a courier agent you must have negotiated with for the delivery (we have about 3 courier agents around and it takes about 3-5 days for the courier to deliver the transcript to the school). This process varies from school to school, so I will advise we all acquaint ourselves with the transcript collection process in our schools and the estimated time of completion so that we can factor that into our planning.
SirRiddy and DanjaNinja already did justice to everything else.
I will be heading to Louisiana State University this fall by the grace of God. Although I know next to nothing about the whole application process (Oga Riddy and DanjaNinja are the bosses), I will be delighted to help whenever I can.
Thanks for everything Oga Riddy, I really appreciate boss mi
I'd like to join the WhatsApp group, please

No, they aren't. The only thing I can relate to is the stomach pain you say you develop after drinking water (lukewarmish and cold waters were bad for me.... I had to always boil and allow to cool). I also couldn't eat solids without problems. But these and the other.... aftermath effects happened for just few months after the surgery and I was back to normal. And you say 5years??

My piece: If you can, go to the surgeon who operated on you or visit one of the reputable hospitals around. Don't dally, please.

Wow! Derz no doubt abt dat. U'll surely benefit from being a Sunday school teacher.

Initiating a convo is abit easy if u start with greeting...e.g Hi/Hello.. I am bla bla.. what's ur name(wit a smile)?? Maintaining d convo is d major ish!

Abt keeping contact, I recently started dat. Infact almost all of my frnds knw nothing bout me nd I knw a whole lot bout dem.. I observe nd listen(common wit introverts I guess). Now I kinda dnt giv a sh*t grin And some re already saying I abandon dem.

Maybe u can text dem instead of calling/talking as a means of keeping in touch. Dat way.. u can type comfortably.
I hardly call people! I prefer texting/chatting with them. Back then in school, when on hols, I hardly made calls or even texted colleagues; not because I didn't care or didn't want to know how they fared, I just... didn't always call. Of course I was accused, cos they called. There are just some things I do and don't have explanations for, not reprehensible ones at least.
FamilyRe: Introverts Lounge (Extroverts Pls Keep Off !!) by opylas(m):
Thank God I found this thread. To think that snooping on some guy's profile got me here... hehe

OK... I can relate to most - but not all - of what's been said. I am terribly shy. I don't take pictures. I tell myself it's because I don't like the idea of having to pose; to be still in front of someone holding a camera. Photos of me are mostly 'captured stolen.' The other times when I have to look in the camera, the sheepish smile is sure to not be missing. I am supersensitive, my friends say I "jump into conclusions" but in the end I am almost always right. I can be very chatty online especially with people I know, but offline? uh-uh, but when push comes to shove and I try to start a convo with someone, I end up making a gaffe, most times it's a 'stab to English's neck.' I hate this!

When I walk, I feel all eyes are on me. I can be indoors for a whole month, especially if I have electricity supplied. And most people on here say they smile a lot? I don't think I do that o ...lolz. My default look is scary! Folks mistake this to mean that I'm snobbish. A course mate once needed my help, she had to go through an older mutual friend outside of the department. He said she had said she couldn't approach me cos she thought I might have shunned her. Today, she's the closest female friend I've ever had.

Also, when someone thinks he's a friend, I try not to make them feel otherwise and I end up making myself uncomfortable (I always do this)

I don't like talkative people very much, and I'm not talkative myself but I'm sorry for this... epistle, I get this expressive only in the cloud. I'm happy to relate.

PS. How many of you are perfectionists? Hehe... I am one

***PRESS RELEASE BY NYSC***
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has postponed to
May 25th, the three-week Batch A Orientation course earlier
scheduled to start on 27th April.
Abosede Aderibigbe, NYSC’s director of press and public
relations, made the confirmation while responding to an
inquiry by TheCable. Prospective corps members were
confused when a message started circulating
online that the notification & online printin of call-up letters
had been shifted.
A statement on the NYSC camp appeared to validate their dis
adjustment, but there were again reports that the strange
time
table was the work of hackers who had supposedly gained
access to the NYSC website.
Aderibigbe did not state any reason for the further shift,
but
apologised to the prospective corps members over any
inconvenience that the development could create.
“We wish to confirm the shift in date for the commencement
of the 2016 Batch ‘A’ Orientation course,” she said. “The
new time-table for the course is as follows:
Stream I Commencement: Wednesday, 25th May, 2016
Swearing-in ceremony: Friday,27th May, 2016,
Close of Camp: Friday, 17th June, 2016
Stream II Commencement: Wednesday, 29th June, 2016
Swearing-in ceremony: Friday, 1st July, 2016
Close of Camp: Friday, 6th June, 2016
“We also use this opportunity to express our sincere regrets
over any inconveniences this change of date might cause to
Prospective Corps Members and other esteemed
stakeholders

So tell me,, what is wrong with studying parasitology or zoology?
What makes it a mumu course?
Who even told u it's an art course?
The op asked a question, and wants an answer not some crass statement from an ignorant fellow.
Just like some of the other commenters, he probably still sat for the last UTME and knows so little.

On the other hand, I wonder when people will learn to stop bringing important personal matters here. Nairaland has proven to not be a good home to them; there's a record.
