Calculusf(x):
...1.draw a circle and a chord AB inside it.a straight line from the centre to the point where the chord meet the circle (A)=radius of the circle=5...also,a straight line from the centre of a circle which makes a right angle to the chord bisects it at O...so the place is 3cm from (A)...which makes a triangle OAB...with right angle at O...which makes a right angle triangle...so using pythagora's theorem...the answer=4cm...2...the size is 6cm by 8cm=48cm square...and increased by half...up and down...then the length is 9cm...both sides,the breath is 7cm=63cm square...the difference is 15cm square which shows the area...3...for a complete 1 hour,the tips rotate for complete revolution=360' and a half hour is half a revolution=180'...add it to give 540'...4...the area of a sphere is 4¥r^2.where ¥ is equal to pie..and r=d/2...substitute that,therefore s=¥d^2...¥ is a constant...therefore s is proportional to d^2 and s=kd^2...(1)if s is increased by 44%...therefore 144s/100=kd'^2...(2)...divide 2 by 1...therefore (d'/d)^2=144/100.find the square root of both sides...therefore d'/d=12/10=120/100...therefore d is increased by 20%...5...selling price is 45...and a profit of 8%...therefore is 108x/100=45...x=125/3 where x is the cost price...the price he should sell it to gain 32% will be equal to 132/100 * 125/3=55...so the answer is #55...

4. S.A of a sphere= 4/\r^2. NB: r^2 is diameter...
Let A2 = r^2 represent the increase, A1 = r^1 the initial area:

:. A2/A1 = r^2/r^1
1.44/1 = r^2/r^1
r^2 = 1.44
r = 1.2

1. Length of the chord = 6cm
Radius = 5cm
But the chord in the circle forms a right-angled triangle when finding it's distance from the centre of the circle.
:. New length= 3cm
Radius= 5cm
Using pythagoras theorem:
x^2= 5^2 - 3^2
x^2= 25 - 9
x^2= 16
x = 4.0cm. . . . . . . . .D is the best answer

Calculusf(x):
To know if a number is divisible by 9...just add the numbers together,if it's a multiple of 9.then 9 will surely go in it...e.g.747...you say 7+4+7=18...18 is a multiple of 9...then 9 is a factor of 747...what about 735...add the numbers 7+3+5=15...15 is not a multiple of 9...therefore 9 is not a factor of 735.THE SAME RULE APPLY FOR 3...THEREFORE 735 IS A MULTIPLE OF 3 BECAUSE 15 IS A MULTIPLE OF 3
Does this also apply to all numbers?

i am a gold medalist at the international mathematics olympiad and this question fetched me the perfect score prize, and i would like to tell you that not everything requires calculus........... Try this question, how many ways can u arrange 19 girls so that no girk has a taller girl in front and behind her......i bet you cannot solve it, besides i have my first degree in pure mathematics......lastly did u try ur formula to see that it was extremely stupid......*pride is before a fall*
Well boss, I congratulate you on your achievements! Honestly, when the question was asked, I knew the series was divergent that it can only converge if x<1 and the summation x^n-1 where x starts from 1 to infinity, but for the extreme derivation of formulae I was confused and initiated calculus.
I'm not fit in the position to argue with you boss but if you had used your final formula to arrive at the answer I would have paid obeisance. Besides, I'm not competing with you I come here only for some contributions and attempting questions that're likely to be asked. Therefore, giving me to understand that I can't really get it by using calculus supposed to have been done like a teacher to his student not derogatorily.
Now to your question on arrangement. It is invalid to me cause you didn't give the number of the short girls for the operation and I guess both questions gave you tough time as their likes trouble even Profs........So, boss someone like you is also needed at the maths gurus thread for contributions. As for the pride, it's far from me.
EducationRe: Unilag 2013/2014/admission by Ortarico(m): 9:12am On Jun 14, 2013
dr.genius:
your formula is definitely wrong because the series above does not converge and even if it converges, the region of convergence would be infinity, therefore it has no sum to infinity, now to the solution
1+X+X^2+X^3+X^4...................+X^n, but we can deduce that this is a geometric progression with is rate beign 1 , this poses another problem because if u use the normal formula it wont work we can also see that for (1<x<2) the formula X^n+1 will work but for larger integers its useless , we can now clear off the one by saying
1+( X+...............x^n) the integers in the bracket hav created another geometric progression with a=x, and r=x , we can now give the sum of our subset series as
S= x(x^m-1)/(x-1) where m=n-1

the final formula
Sn= 1+ x(x^m-1)/(x-1) , remember that m=n-1 and that x>1
Mtcheeeew. . . .Hey boyd, stop confusing yaself with extreme formulae. Examining the progression, one can infer that it's infinite and so would need to apply the sum of an infinite exponential sequence. So, you had better give it what it demands than making it finite with x^n......BTW, if you know your formula is the best, why didn't you use it to arrive at your final? Bunkum!

oyestephen: My people una well done o...a peep at this thread reveals young people with one mind, and i really appreciate this. Please help solve this maths question; find the sum of the following progression, 1+x+x^2+x^3..
Let's go. . . . . . . .

We're taking calculus cause ordinary Algebra can't handle it.
First of all, find the antiderivative of the series (1 + x + x^2 + x^3.....)which is obviously an exponential sequence:
x + x^2 + x^3 + x^4......

Using the sum of an infinite series:
S~ = a/1 - r
a = x
r = x
S~ = x/1 - x

Using Quotient rule (dy/dx = V du/dx + U dv/dx/V^2) we obtain:
dy/dx = 1 - x(1) + x(-1)/(1 - x)^2
1 - x - x/(1 - x)^2
1 - 2x/(1 - x)^2. . . . . . .answer

You guyz're right, there was a mistake in his question. Here it is jare:

A man is x years old, his son is y years old. The sum of their ages is twice the difference of their ages. If the product of their ages is 675, find the age of the man.

@rashywire, pls try to reveiw your questions before posting.

Calculusf(x):
...ade can do it in 3 hours...therefore for 1 hour...ade will do 1/3 of the job...and for 1 hour obi will do 1/5 of the job while audu will do 1/7 of the job for just one hour...combining the work all of them will do in one hour...therefore it's 1/3 + 1/5 + 1/7=71/105...therefore for one hour they will do 71/105 of the job...and for the whole job to be completed they will do 105/71 as this;
1hr~~>71/105 therefore,
xhr~~>1...
Cross multiply from there to get 71x/105=1...therefore x=105/71 hours
You're right boss. I think I've done it for him @unilag's admission thread.
So to continue from where you stopped:
x = 1.478873. . . . . . .which is 1hrs 28mins 44secs

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 ... 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 (of 27 pages)
