Alaska90: I told you to differentiate between influence and being under empire
There is nothing in history both written and oral to suggest that Benin was directly ruling these places in this map
They influenced many place for example Owo culture of beads
The Bini historian, Chief Egharevba, first mentions Owo in connection with an incident during the reign of King Ewuare the Great (who assumed the crown c. A.D. 1440). Egharevba says that "Owo rebelled during Ewuare’s time, and that Iken, a powerful chief at Uselu, near Benin City, was dispatched with a large army to quell the insurrection". “After short but severe fighting, they (Owo) surrendered.” Iken himself was later killed, after sending his soldiers, captives and spoils to Benin City.
I also understand that Owo also has its oral tradition, which stated that they had a diplomatic relationship with Benin. Again, it now becomes a case of "Until the Lion tells his side of the story".
Iamgrey5: This map is absolutely a fiction of imagination of someone and inaccurate
The Ado had not arrived Lagos at that time
Ilaje was never under Benin empire rule at any point in its history.
And Oyo ruled over Ketu and Abadomey at that time.
Take note that I have referred to c.1580 and not c. 1780 (Oyo empire at its greatest period). Indeed, Ketu and other kingdoms or confederacies owed direct allegiance to Oyo until a significant decline by 1836.
As for Ilaje been part of Benin empire, the Oba Orhogbua had engaged in the military campaign that expanded the empire into riverine territories. This was between c. 1550-1578. So, you can verify from existing literature on weather Edo had arrived Lagos at that time.
You edit my comment when you have nothing to say....an average Benin man can't think for themselves they are use to rewriting other people words....TAO11 was right afterall...
All this is unnecessary from you and Greg...We are different people but have some similarities, and the history that we may or may not know will not help in developing anything. You guys need to stop all this tribalism oh.
Unclekayfarms: From Kogi, Lagos, Kwara, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun reach Benin republic all our Yoruba parents refer to Benin as Ado unlike Ubinu which is derogatory.
The Yorubas that migrated into Igodomigodo saw unoccupied lands and called it "Ado" which means our new settlement.
It's now the Yorubas start calling it Edo unlike our parents.
We have Ado yam meaning Edo yam variety
We have Ado pepper
We have Ado Plantain etc all named after Edo products in d southwest.
jneutron4000: You are correct Ade mean Crown/Royalty, I have read lots of articles on the Ogisos and the coming of Oranmiyan influences the land and the culture, that's why culture and language is dynamic. In this pics below are examples of name people bear in Edo, you will find Ade as prefix or suffix, even Adedoyin, Adetutu, Adesusu, AdesUWA. This simply shows a fusion between the Yorubas (Ife migrants) + Idu/Igodomigodo the Aborigines of that land.
That doesn't mean a fusion between Yorubas and Idu/Igodomigodo...Like I said earlier, ADE means something else in Edo and the prefix or suffix does not mean anything was borrowed. For example, Ehime means "My Personal Guardian Spirit" in Edo but there is a place called Ehime in Japan and it will be false to deduce that one tribe borrowed from the other. Funny enough, Edo also used to be the name of Tokyo and we can't not say that it was founded by same people.
That been said, there are words that are borrowed by people who interact with each other over a long time.
Ideadoctor: If you are Benin, you are definitely Yoruba, but if you claim Edo,Yoruba does not know you, but any Benin that says he is not a Yoruba is a bastard
First of all, Yoruba is originally in reference to the Oyo empire and it was the name Hausa people called them (i.e. Oyoruba). Meaning an Ijebu man is Ijebu and Egba people are Egba.
Second of all, Edo was another empire and empires can comprise of different tribe of people who may not be the same. So, even the Benin empire of today can never lay claim of Ekiti or Ondo, even though they were part of the Benin empire. Even Bini and Esan people are different but know they have a history.
Third, the idea of calling people bastards to claim superiority is very weak. The British dismantled the empires and the Nigerian government cancelled history but that doesn't give you the right to insult people who you don't know.
jneutron4000: Imade is did not originated from Igodomigodo, ADE is a Yoruba word and it is used mostly as prefix or suffix in names just as imADE, ADEsua, ADEwole, ADElabu, orimolADE etc. Yorubas that migrated from Ife with Oranmiyan and they settle in Benin with Eweka the first that started the Obaship dynasty you people are just so funny with the way and matter you want to turn the history upside down.
Correct me, but doesn't ADE in Yoruba mean crown? In Edo it means "go" or "way" or "came". So ADEsuwa means born I came with wealth. ADEsogbe which is the name of the road leading to the Oba palace means way to ogbe (a community where the palace is)
soundOsonic: Mouth in ibo onu Edo is inu Yoruba is enu
Oba means king in Bini but Yoruba took it from the bini. It is normal when you stay with people for a long time, they will always be adoption of some words
Baba in Yoruba means father in Edo it is Abale. Beside baba is not used by the Yorubas alone some tribe across the globe uses it.
Funny enough, baba is not what Edo call father. It is Erha.
24SEVEN: Edo state no get oil, yet they sited NPDC head quarters there. What happened to Rivers or Bayelsa. Bayelsa has history as the first oil producing state in Nigeria. Port Harcourt is Nigeria's oil capital. It's Unfair.
NPDC HQ has always been in Benin...See link to their current (rented) Location.
DanceMonkey: you do well brother, I am a corper and want to travel to Australia after my service year to further my studies and work as well, and advise for me as to how to go about it?
It’s a good idea to study here but try to get a scholarship cos it can be expensive here.
I am surprised that Australia is number 1. I currently work, school and live Australia and I can tell you that it is not as simple as the OP describes. Australians have a thing were they want you to have an Australian work experience. So I have seen people with good Nigerian qualifications and experience migrate here only to work with old people.
Very confused organisation....is it Department of States Services now....Some times, it is State Security Services or Department of State Security....They should make up their mind on what they want to be called.
This is expected with our large population. In fact, the number of Cannabis users in some states my be larger than the entire population of Botswana

It seems you have missed the fact that it is one quarter of the total votes cast in at least two-third of the local government. You have analysed the total votes rather than two-thirds of the local government.
kahal29: ”The apex court ordered that the runner-up candidate be sworn in if he fulfils the constitutional requirement of getting one quarter of the total votes cast in at least two-third of the local government areas of the state.
Here is the analysis:
Total votes cast: 810,782
APC: 534,541 votes
PDP: 189,452 votes
So PDP must get 202,696 to clinch the governor seat of Zamfara state.
ojikeebere12: Ejike Mbaka, spiritual director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), says Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi, his running mate, might “end in shame” with the way they are going.
The Catholic priest said this after Obi failed to make donations at the ministry’s 2018 harvest and bazaar celebration.
Obi attended the programme which held during the weekend alongside other politicians from the south-east.
Standing by his side, Mbaka asked him to “stay in front of this children of God and tell God what you will do for Him … or what that means is, you don’t want to do anything for God. This is common deceit.”
Obi replied: “Father, what I said is straightforward. You will come and show me the project so that the two of us will talk. That is what I said.”
Mbaka then accused the former governor of Anambra of making “political statement” to which he responded: “Father knows I don’t make political statements. Anyone here from Anambra state knows Peter Obi has never promised anything and failed. I am a fundamental Catholic. I do whatever I say at the church.”
The priest said in response: “In your capacity and what God has done for you as governor … God hates stinginess. What I am saying is not to please you, but what will save your life. Otherwise you and Atiku will fail.
“If there is a place they will coat words for you, it is not at Mbaka’s altar. You can save your political destiny. Or in 2019, you people will not even know how they did the election. What will make my brother to come for bazaar and he won’t even break kola?”
Mbaka went on to tell Obi how governors of Ebonyi and Enugu made donations without announcing at the altar and urged him to do same.
“Your own is taking time,” he said, adding: “The way you and Atiku are moving will end in shame”.
“Let us continue our bazaar. You know since he is not supporting us, the ministry has been moving. If people start arguing like this, their downfall begins,” he said.
The priest also said he would make prediction regarding the 2019 presidential election come December 31.
