OlympiadTutor: Just curious. If you are interested in Pure Mathematics, I strongly recommend that you start to look for a scholarship overseas or try AIMS (African Institute of Mathematical Sciences). I am not sure Uniben is strong in Pure Mathematics (well except for Alufohai, but I guess he is retired now). |

My writing skill is exponentially decaying faster than I can imagine. Therefore, I have decided to start writing regularly in order to be more active While it is true that I have a science background, I also do have an interest in so many areas of life from the arts, maths, astronomy, sports, meditation, politics etc. I am not sure if this is the correct section to ponder about so many things. I implore you all to join me as I explore so many interesting topics. If you have any topic of interest you want me to talk about please let me know as I will be happy to provide some insight, at least to the degree to which I am familiar with the topic. Let's talk about religion first. I'm presently agnostic. I came from a Christian home (and very likely if my parents find out that I am agnostic, I will be disowned). However, the reason I am agnostic is because of so many questions religion cannot answer. It also seems that the religion one practices most times depends on where (the country) he/she comes from. If my parents were from Israel, I would have been practising Judaism, if they were from Pakistan, I would likely have been a Muslim, if they were from Indian, I will likely be practising Hinduism, If I was even born in Nigeria a thousand years ago, I would have been worshipping the great JuJu. I think the religion we practise today can be strongly linked to the spatial location in which we were born and raised. This means that there is a very good chance that the religion in which you practice today may very well be different if you were from a different region. This to me weakens the argument for religion. One way of detecting a problem with a solution is if there are other many radically different solutions. Now it should be noted that I do believe religion has done some good things in society like making an otherwise naturally evil person do good things. However, religion has also made good people do bad things. Let me stop here for now. |

Hi people, please is anyone willing to bet with me that the Lakers will repeat ? I am also willing to bet that the nba finals will not go 7 games with whoever the Lakers meet. Please if you are interested let me know. BTW I am a Clippers fan. I am also willing to bet that the Lakers will win above 65 games next season. Any takers. Thank you. Anthony Davis complements LeBron so well that it is scary. The only way I lose the bet is if Davis or LeBron becomes injured. I am willing to bet anyway. |

Najdorf: Yea, I made a big mistake debating a low-resolution-informed flat earther (I rather would have prefered the best version of flat earth theory: it would have been fun engaging with the person to show other readers how not to do science), there are somethings that you don't debate. I should have completely ignored him when he said gravity is fake. I would also implore Spy360 to let it slide equally; It is pointless. Debating with him dignifies his position, and there are more productive ways to spend time. As for Roger Penrose, he is a very brilliant theorist. It was him and Stephen Hawking that worked on Blackhole. Should Hawking be alive today, I do not doubt that he would have won the prize as well (I am not so sure how it would have worked out since the maximum amount of people that can receive the prize at a given year is three). Sadly, they do not give Nobel prizes posthumously. I know a bit about Andrea. She is outstanding in articulating difficult concepts to a non-technical audience without given up on accuracy: this shows her level of understanding. Before now, great Astronomers were mostly ignored by the Nobel prize committee; otherwise, Edwin Hubble should have received the prize twice. This is analogous to the Fields medal award, where pure-mathematicians are mostly awarded as against applied-mathematicians. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

The Nobel prize in Physics 2020 has been announced. The price went to three people based on their work on Black holes. Roger Penrose (Theoretic Physicist), Andrea Ghez (Astronomer), and Reinhard Genzel (Astrophysicist). Penrose was given half of the prize while Andrea and Reinhard shared the other half. It is quite pleasing that astronomy and astrophysics are being recognized. |

EMILO2STAY: Oh believe me I would have if you are smart enough to understand the very very basic concept. I'm sorry, but the tools I have to try to convince you that the Earth is round is clearly beyond you. You do not believe in gravity, you do not know about the properties of light, you do not know the difference between weight and mass, you do not understand relativistic speed, you just do not understand anything. How am I suppose to convince you? There should be a framework upon which both of us agree before I can build an argument to convince you. I really feel so sad that for some reason at your old age you have not obtained the sufficient prerequisite-- which is common sense-- to be able to attract my attention. I also think I have suffeciently derailed the thread, hence going forward in time, this sadly maybe my last response to you. Henceforth, I will be posting more interesting stuff about astronomy for the enthusiast. Cheers simpleton! 1 Like |

EMILO2STAY: The great EMILO2STAY, ,. The only man capable of discarding the whole academic enterprise. I crave your indulgence . In my whispering tone (I know you think the moon landing was also fake) . I am so scared of your brilliance. The only man that never got the scores he deserved because of his pretty girlfriend. The world is jealous of your mind and achievement. @ the bolded I have interacted with many actually, and honestly, you are the dumbest of them all by a mile. The curvature of your dumbness is 8 IQpoints/ time^2 (no pun intended ). If I were to play the devil's advocate, I certainly can come up with far more convincing and interesting arguments supporting the flat-earth model. For starters, I would know the difference between mass and weight, I will acknowledge gravitational force etc. Anyway, let me know when you have an interesting argument. PS: Are you not tired of the name-calling... fool, idiot, etc. It is now a cliche. Not helping your argument boss |

khingTony: Absolutely FALSE. It is just an approximation which is true for only short distances. Flat earthers use this erroneous number to disprove a spherical Earth. This is why I asked for the young man's background. I have sketched out the proof to the approximate formula flat-earthers use. Pay attention to the assumption made. The formula is only TRUE for SHORT distances. When the distance between the object and the observer is long the formula gives NONSENSE. Watch that little creature discredit everything, well because he does not understand Maths and Physics. 2 Likes 2 Shares

Congrats to the lakers and particularly LeBron James and Anthony Davis. I am a Clippers fan, but I am 80 percent confident that the Lakers will repeat as long as AD and LeBron are healthy. I do not care about the pieces they have around them. LeBron is on a mission and Anthony Davis is just so dynamic and special. It became obvious to me in the playoff that they were (the lakers) heads and shoulders above other teams. I don't care about Kelvin Durant and Kyrie. They have no leadership qualities. Kyrie personality is as toxic as his talent is great. He is a curse in disguise and he is hardly available (always injured) . Also much respect to Frank Vogel. As for the Clippers, they need to get a very good coach. Lou-Williams needs to be serious-minded and organised. Pat Berverly should tone down the shenanigans and focus more on the game. Kawhi should be Kawhi. Paul George should be more confident in himself and assertive. The clippers should get one more good piece. 1 Like |

Spy360: There is absolutely nothing rational about those facts. I have interacted with a plethora of brilliant flat-earthers. He does not even come close. Also, while it is impossible to convince such person, it is quite dangerous to even remotely congratulate him for what he has written. Any newbie who visits this thread may get the impression that what he has written is in, to use your words "within rational thoughts". NO, IT IS NOT!. |

EMILO2STAY: The friends who depended on you must have failed lol. So it is has been a win win for you. This your delusion started when you were young. You fail an exam, it is not because you provided crappy answers (as you are now) but it was because your teachers were jealous of your girlfriend lol. You have always had your alternative facts. No responsibility, nothing. If the world's view does not agree with your concocted theory then the view is wrong. As for the rest of your write-up, quite frankly when I got to 8 inches/m^2 (what does that unit even mean), I just stopped reading. It is all garbage. Every word you type demonstrates how little you know. I think I now feel a bit of empathy for you than frustration. See a shrink immediately! |

EMILO2STAY: You just made his point. NONE was built based on FLAT EARTH. The GPS (global positioning system) was not only based on spherical earth but also corrected for relativistic effect (thanks to Einstein). Otherwise, the accuracy would have been way off. PS: The frequency in which you call other people who disagree with you fools is alarming. What an irony . |

Spy360: 5.) If the earth is flat, why is it that after Ramadan fast in the tallest building in the world known as Burj Khalifa in Dubai, there is a 2minutes interval between when Muslims at the base of the building and the top of the building break their fast. Recall that fasting ends during sunset. The sunset is faster for those at the base than those at the top: the reason is because of the curvature of the earth. Watch how the troll avoids this question as a plague or spits out garbage as he usually does. Hehehehehe... I love this, it makes me laugh hehehehe |

Heartlessbanker: I have this weird feeling that you are more reasonable and willing to learn. Let me bless you with my precious time and carefully explain things to you as long as you are honest, civil and willing to learn. Also, as long as you are not an arrogant lunatic like the other repulsive guy named Emilo who clearly suffers from the Dunning–Kruger effect (he should look up the meaning), I will engage with you in a productive and civil manner. Look to debunk flat earth theory in 5 seconds, you can do an experiment if you have the resources. A laser beam of light, a ship, and a friend. Let your friend be onshore and with the laser beam. Project the laser beam on the ship and mark the point heavily ( so like shinning a touch light on the ship and marking the point where the light hits the ship). This should be done before the ship sails. You should be on the ship when it sails but your friend should constantly hold the laser beam at that position (perhaps leave it on a table so that he doesn't change the vertical position of the light beam). As the ship sails, you should just observe the projected beam of light on ship. You will observe that there will be a time when the beam of light becomes remarkably higher than the original marked position on the ship. The reason for this is because of the curvature of the earth. Light travels on a straight line, but the ship sails along the curvature of the earth which leads to the vertical displacement. This is the objective TRUTH. Objective TRUTH does not care about your feelings, religion, emotions or delusions. Note: Do not use Emilo as your friend for the experiment. Not only is he a supremely dumb conspiracy theorist with a very weak mind who appeals to untrained mind by stringing together incoherent poor grammatical sentences springled with science sounding words he knows nothing about, but also he is very dubious and clearly has a stupendous ignorant agenda. I went through all his thread and shook my head in disbelieve. In the words of the Nobel Prize winner in Physics, Wolfgang Pauli, " He is not even wrong"-- (meaning what Emilo says is so bad that it cannot even be graded as being wrong). 1 Like |

EMILO2STAY: Every word that you type further demonstrates that you have no iota of idea what you are talking about. SpaceX is launching satellite in space (thanks to Elon Musk), you are debating whether the earth is flat or not. I can't waste my precious time on you. It is a free world, feel free to believe in anything as long as you are not in power to make policies that will affect other people's life. My friend, go bonkers with your conspiracy theory. |

EMILO2STAY: Ok let me answer your question and try to convince you and anyone that reads this post. If you have taken a course in physics that explained relative motion, you would see how silly (not to offend you) your question is. Let me quickly explain, relativity says as long you are in a non-accelerated reference frame , you will be unable to tell if you are moving or not. So for example if you are in a car moving at a constant velocity of 100km/hr relative to a bystander outside the car; you can argue that it is the car that is stationary and it is the bystander moving at a velocity of 100km/hr. Physics says both you and the bystander are correct. The laws of physics is true for all observers, meaning if you throw a ball up in your car it comes back to you in the same way it does if the bystander throws the ball. Similarly, we are on the surface of an oblate spheroid known as earth (thanks to gravitational forces pulling everything on the surface to its center) and since the globe is spinning at a constant rate of 1000 miles/hr, we on the surface of the earth are also spinning at that rate from the eyes of an observer in space (outside earth). However, from our on perspective, the earth is stationary. Hence, just like Einstein will say, it makes absolutely no sense to ask for the speed of an object because the speed is diffferent for different observers. If a dog is running at 10 km/hr, and I am walking at 5km/hr and you are stationary (0 km/hr), If someone asks both of us for the speed of the dog, our response will be different but both accurate since we are in different reference frames. I will say the dog was running at 5km/hr and you will 10km/hr. Lastly, our intuition is flawed, that is why science exists. Sience is a tool which consist of several objective methods used to probe difficult questions so as to get objective answers that explains complex phenomenon in order to drive an informed democracy. Please embrace it!!! 1 Like |

Unbelievable. After reading the topic, I thought it will be a fascinating thread. I was utterly wrong. Some flat- earthers are here engaging with serious minded people and thereby disparaging the quality of the thread. Like there are people who still believe the earth is flat? Like really? . Unbelievable! 1 Like 1 Share |
