Olusegun Obasanjo is not a name. Olusegun is not a Yoruba name. Obasanjo is not a name. Oba means what? Chief, Sanjo means what, Oba forbids sin, Sanjo is Igbo, so he has emerged from where, he has emerged from where and settled where; don’t let me bring those historical things. My take on the issue is "Wen u r Out u stay Out", Abi wat do u guys think? Are you out of your mind? You dated a violent man for over 9 solid years 5 years later he wants to be "your friend" and you're confused regarding what to do? youngies: Ok. . .I tried very hard not to laugh . . . but ladies and gentlemen, it has been confirmed that Sunny Odogwu is a retarded COMEDIAN!!!! lawd have mercy!
Honestly people can be very comical. Sunny o gi nwe aka!!! (thumbs up) farotika: I think ignorance should be beaten out of you and your sorry "Sony" for claiming to know what u don’t have knowledge of. I wonder how this so-called chief will interpret his name 'Sunny Odogwu', Maybe "Sunny" means he comes from the Sun or Odo-gwu" could mean that he's a product of "odo" i.e. 'pestle and mortar'.
Mind you, both Soyinka and Obasanjo have deep Yoruba meaning. So, the man should ask question not make useless comments. Remii: Much as I abhor insulting elders , Sonny Odogwu 's interview leaves too much to desire in his analysis and conclusions. So people like Oliver De Queqe, Ezeife, Chukwumeje and Ojukwu that are stylishly bearded unlike most Ibos are not Ibos even when you can trace their family history. So deciding to maintain certain hair cut or peculiar look can change your gene and tribe. Wole Soyinka's father is from and mother from Abeokuta full and complete Yoruba also he is a direct cousin of Late Fela Kuti
He, Sonny Odogwu, concluded Obasanjo is not Yoruba simply because Sanjo has another meaning in Ibo, So since "Dupe" that means" give thanks in Yoruba and written same as "dupe" which means to defraud in English people bearing Dupe are not Yoruba just because their name spells same with defraud and non Yoruba's should not ask for Yoruba meaning of the name?
Obasanjo means "God has paid us back or rewarded us of our past effort". Obasanjo is from Owu Egba and all Owu people are from ancient Owu Ile few kilometers from Ile Ife right in the center of Yoruba Origin. The Ibos / Ika people should be ashamed their high chief granted this kind of interview. Dede1: This is typical Nigerian approach to all and every issue where they tend to dive into discourse without weighing their options properly. Without much fanfare, I deduced that those contributors that had called Sunny Odogwu names are bunch of idiots and overfed simpletons.
Where is the modesty expected from an average intelligent fellow and for allowing benefit of doubts? If you have never had a prior knowledge of Nigerian secret documents or walked the corridor of power in Nigeria like Sunny Odogwu did, I urge you to tread with considerable amount of caution.
As for the noble prize carp, it does not mean a thing to me because it a colonial leach. If anybody deserves noble crap, I think of Achebe but it may not happen because of “Things Fall Apart”. However, I still like Wole Soyinka, Nigerian or not. I just found out that Chief Sunny Odogwu, the Ide Ahaba is a totally different person from this clown Sonny Okogwu. Please let's not confuse the 2. Odogwu is a well respected multi millionaire and a philantropist in his 70's,the owner of Grand hotel in Asaba and a a man who has proven himself in the world of business. He is the holder of several distinguished awards and merited honors both at home and abroad and is well loved by all Asaba indigenes and Igbos at large. Sunny Okogwu is a tout. His only claim to fame is being Ndidi Okogwu's brother Ndidi Okogwu went on to become Maryam Babangida and the Okogwu of an slowpoke was a beneficiary of the stolen Nigerian money by the IBB regime. Please let's make that distinction and not drag Sunny Odogwu's good name through the mud |

bawomolo: Federal aid programs such as Medicaid, Social Security and Welfare are about to go bankrupt or on welfare. Isn't the Uk trying to tax foreigners using public services. This is capitalism not communism.
Yes it would be better if he had less kids, poor people having too many kids creates a large unmanageable lower class. he isn't committing but brings kids he can't take care of into this world. It's unfair to the kids and a government that would bear the burden of taking care of an exploding population.
bottom line is that the structures are illegal. he is lucky his ass wasn't fined. Do the right thing next time then educate him. provide him with health care, and treat him like a human. Give him something to look forward to besides sex It takes absolutely no effort to make a baby. In the time it takes me to type this,I could conceive quadruplets It's that easy,of course you know. We can't keep shouting stop making babies from the internet and the government takes absolutely no responsibility for these individuals we love to talk down on. Nigeria has enough resources to do this but we'll rather blame it on the down trodden and celebrate the criminals and their family But for God's grace Pa Ibrahim could have been your father or mine. Government has eminent domain over land and especially illegal structures. Inhumane is bringing 7 kids you can't take care off to earth. how would a vulcanizer pay their school fees. Maybe he couldn't afford gold circle
the lagos state government is not a charity or NGo did you hear his voice until his business was demolished? He has 7 children and so what? is having kids illegal? would it be better if you heard he was homeless with 3 or 4 kids as opposed to 7? lower wage earmers all over the world even in Chicago have more kids than average is he commiting a crime? did you educate him about birth control or give him free samples? did you have his wife on a free annual physical to educate her about contraception? That's what a government does. ask Medicaid in the US and NHS in the UK Fashola wants to turn Lagos into London without the benefits accorded to low wage earners in London,is that fair? |

bawomolo: What's bad with Lagosian spreading from the inner city itself. Places like Ikorodu and Badagry should be developed. It's not a must you live in Lagos.
All the developed cities in the world today have gone through periods of reconstruction.
no was Cabrini green illegal? now you get my point. some things are just inhuman. Right now in California there are tent cities springing up in places. Something that would have been termed illegal this time last year. There are people pitching tents in open fields and living there with their families because they've lost their jobs and their homes. The Govt knows this and cannot evict them without finding them an alternative. That's what a reasonable government does. I can assure you that organisations are already helping provide them with food and portable lavatory. That's a country that cares for it's citizens. Not yours that forces people to defecate into the same stream they draw water from then demolishes their home in the daytime and a mother is left out in the streets with 5 young children Tomorrow if those kids turn to area boys and girls and rip your wife's gold ear ring off her ears on 3rd mainland bridge,we'll rain curses on them . |

OBVIOUS: NONE of these projects are sustainable. If you cannot provide people with options, then these projects are a waste of time, sweat, and money, That is what some of these noisemakers have failed to acknowledge. Fashola cannot bulldoze himself into a beautiful Lagos wiothout creating alternatives. Majority of the inhabitants of his city live on less than $20/day and he thinks just demolishing things overnight will make tghings better I heard from an earlier poster that some of the displaced individuals have fled to Ibadan robbing, killing and maiming people Is that the solution? chasing them from one city to another till they drown in the River Niger or cross over to Chad. All the people hailing Fashola should watch out. They may be next. It's either fashola's men or Pa Jimoh abi Ibrahim and his AK 47 |

bawomolo: But this is a different government. I mean this was coming. Pa Ibrahim was living on borrowed time. According to you guys, The united states shouldn't have brought down the Irish and Italian ghettos in New York because they lived there for decades? This is the way urban planning works, people get uprooted whether they like it or not. Pa Ibrahim isn't owed compensation considering his structure is illegal and the high likelihood he never paid taxes to the local government council.
the laws were on the books, they just were hardly ever enforced. LG councils in lagos deserve most of the blame for this mess. and what happened to the residents? were they left to the elements? You live in Chicago, what happened when Cabrini Green was demolished since you folks keep compating that mortuary called Nigeria to the USA |

In regards to America constitution the man might deserve compensation even if its illegal, because he has owned it for 30+ years. Not the same govt in power now, is it? Lawlessness from top to bottom. what makes the structures illegal when they were not seen as such 30 years earlier? That is the lawlessness I'm talking about. Isnt he driving around the streets in a bullet proof limo? They have free shelter to sleep in They can receive free vouchers for food They can receive free job placements free alcohol and drug rehab free job placements free health care free dental care free govt housing once clean. most perhaps greater than 95% of them are addicts. They are not there because of economic situation. there are thousands of non profit organisations receiving govt grants that cater just to the homeless and down trodden. why would anyone compare Nigeria to the USA? |
