Kobojunkie: Let them at least try. Your own country has no national airline to boast of. Any state that wants to embark in such ventures should go ahead afterall they built the airport itself. I read somewhere that Imo is the cleanest state in Nigeria so obviously someone is doing their job. Guarantees ? what guarantee do you have that the bridge you're driving on will not implode? |
Politics / Re: Imo State Govt Floats Airline, Purchases Three Aircraft by osisi3(f): 5:41pm On Jan 05, 2009 |
Eziachi: Exactly. Imo is the only state where citizens singlehandedly built an airport and handed it over to the Federal Govt. The Fed Govt has failed in that airport like in many others. Let the great state of Imo take it over for a change. Long live Imo state. Long live alaigbo Long live Nigeria |

Martian: Too bad the world has come to that. We live in a world where people have to be careful how they conduct themselves in public. A Jewish Rabbi was kicked off sometime ago for praying in the plane A Muslim man was also kicked off last year for counting his beads and murmuring to himself I'm sure if I went to a plane speaking in tongues,I'll probably be kicked out too. People need to be aware of their sorroundings and I'm actually glad that passengers are alert and watching suspicious movements on aircrafts. many disasters have been abated by such vigilance. I have been searched and wanded several times,of course I hate spreading out in public and patted down like a criminal but if that's the prize we have to pay for safety in today's world, you either live with it or stop flying. |

There are plenty Muslims and non Muslims that have been kicked off planes for "suscipicious activities" That is the world we live in thanks to Islamic terrorists. I'll rather 100 people were kicked off and later found innocent that one guilty jihadist fall through the cracks and cause havoc to innocent souls. If I sat in a plane and a family were talking about the safest place in a plane especially if they were dressed in Islamic wear,I would be concerned too. My heart goes out to this particular family for the embarassment and inconvenience but better safe than sorry. |

olabowale: Happy New year! I pray that this year shall be a year of new beginnings and that the love of the Lord will envelope you this year in Jesus' name You don't need to get mad at this man's conversion. It's happening everyday. last year to millions and about 6 million of them to Christianity. It's a daily occurence in your country and neighborhood in Nigeria. Go to you tube and see his full interview and found out how he got converted from darkness into light. Don't get yourself worked up unnecessarily. It's the work of God and you can do nothing about it. |

However the exodus from Islam is not reserved to the intellectuals but also the average Muslims are finding that Islam is not the way to God but to ignorance, poverty and wars. They are leaving Islam to embrace other religions especially the Christianity. Perhaps it is best to listen to the truth coming from the mouth of the horse. The Internet site aljazeera.net published an interview with Ahmad Al Qataani أحمد القطعاني An important Islamic cleric who said: “In every hour, 667 Muslims convert to Christianity. Everyday, 16,000 Muslims convert to Christianity. Ever year, 6 million Muslims convert to Christianity http://www.faithfreedom.org/oped/sina31103.htm |

How were you exposed to Christianity? "It began about eight years ago. I was in Jerusalem and I received an invitation to come and hear about Christianity. Out of curiosity I went. I was very enthusiastic about what I heard. I began to read the Bible every day and I continued with religion lessons. I did it in secret, of course. I used to travel to the Ramallah hills, to places like the Al Tira neighborhood, and to sit there quietly with the amazing landscape and read the Bible. A verse like "Love thine enemy" had a great influence on me. At this stage I was still a Muslim and I thought that I would remain one. But every day I saw the terrible things done in the name of religion by those who considered themselves 'great believers.' I studied Islam more thoroughly and found no answers there. I reexamined the Koran and the principals of the faith and found how it is mistaken and misleading. The Muslims borrowed rituals and traditions from all the surrounding religions." http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1007462.html |

The verse of scripture that turned him around. You have heard that it was said, "Love your neighbor and hate your enemy." But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (Matthew 5:43-44). |

Yousef, 30, said he realized the true nature of Hamas and radical Islam during a stint in an Israeli prison. He renounced his Muslim faith, left his family behind in Ramallah and converted to Christianity. "Islam is not the word of God," said Yousef. "If you want to be offended it's your problem. But you know something? Go study. Think for a second that I might be right. So wake up, look at your path, see where you're going. Are you really going to heaven with 72 virgins after you kill yourself and kill another 20 people?" http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,475226,00.html |

udezue: If you know any of those producers in Upper Iweka and hear how they started out you'll marvel at what these guys did. Practically built wealth out of nothing. The business mind of an average Igboman is phenomenal too bad some deviants amongst us via off the criminal way and still manage to do it "intelligently". Look at the so called aba made products? Who would think that people would become millionaires by selling ordinary okirika ? Second hand clothing, rejected goods basically. Come and see the ware houses in North and South Carolina where these guys operate from, you'll marvel. All those naija "boutiques" are basically okirika the proprietors in Lagos and Abuja know the truth but they won't tell . Okirika and payless shoes let me keep quiet sef |

Asha, Mr Negro nts,get your facts right before telling blatant lies on the internet and sound like a big fool. My family lives all over northern Nigeria. They fled the war and their homes were occupied by the indigenes. They like most all other Igbos in northern Nigeria got their homes back after the war. I say most because there's a chance that some families may have all perished and none came to claim their property. Stop telling silly lies just to justify the evil machinations of Awolowo that failed woefully. Those who fled homes in Lagos and other parts of Yorubaland returned to reclaim their property, thanks to the indigenes. Most Igbos that lost property lost them in Port Harcourt to lazy Ijaw and Ikwerre indigenes who preferred to reap where they did not sow. They declared people's hard earned property "abandoned property' and moved in and colonized them like blood sucking parasites An aunt of mine finally got her fathers property in Borokiri just some few years ago after a drawn out court battle. The 20 pounds scheme was a well thought out scheme by an evil finance minister Mr Obafemi Awolowo who then turned around to make open sale of shares in Nigerian companies knowing fully well $20 could not buy a thing. He essentially wanted Yorubas to have an upper hand in Nigeria's financial system having incapacitated the Igbos since he knew northerners were more interested in eating gworo. That was his plan But you ought to ask yourself if he succeeded or failed. Bank accounts don't change names so there's no reason why a man would lose his money in the bank because his region was at war moreover it sounds wicked and strange to steal money from people you fought to remain one with, what would be the motive? Igbos are obviously not the worse of in Nigeria by any stretch so Awolowo and his scheme failed. Are Yorubas not running away from the same soured agidi called Nigeria as much as Igbos? whatever success his evil machinations achieved was temporal and have been eroded with time Like we say in Igboland, after the race,we'll calculate the mileage |

The world's 10 worst places to live TheStar.com - World - The world's 10 worst places to live December 31, 2008 Olivia Ward FOREIGN AFFAIRS REPORTER Canadians are world-class complainers – about the government, the economy, the weather and a host of shortcomings in their lives. But in spite of the global economic turbulence, Canada remains one of the best countries in which to live. Dozens of other nations make the lives of their citizens a misery with dire scenarios ranging from civil war to brutal repression, poverty, famine, disease, criminal violence and environmental catastrophe. The result is floods of refugees and migrants heading for safer shores, or a decent standard of living: moves that often leave their countries even worse off, with the best and brightest fleeing if they can. Many of the countries at the bottom of the "worst" lists in one category are also low in others. Those that are consistently low are at risk of becoming failed states. But the competition for bottom place is heavy, and there's often little between the contestants. Rating systems are uneven and may depend on statistics that are hard to come by. At best they are indicators, rather than the full story. Here are 10 of the worst places to live in 2008, and the factors that made them unliveable. Pollution: Urumqi, China Once a Silk Road hub, the western Chinese city of Urumqi has the bad luck to be downstream of sulphurous soil dust from nearby agricultural areas, as well as deadly industrial pollutants. China's environmental scientists say it now outranks Linfen, previously named as the world's most polluted city. Corruption: Somalia Declared a failed state, Somalia is so violent that millions have fled their homes. But it is also at the bottom of an annual global corruption index by Transparency International, which points out that in desperately poor countries, bribery and extortion can be life and death issues if people are forced to pay extra for basic necessities. Dictatorship: North Korea Kim Jong-il, North Korea's ailing ruler, was named the world's worst dictator of 2008 on Parade magazine's annual list. It says he runs the most isolated, repressive regime in the world, where three generations of a family can be punished for one member's alleged crime. About 200,000 citizens have been jailed, many tortured. Personal security: Iraq In spite of the much-praised "surge" of American troops, and a diminished death rate in the past year, Iraq ranks lowest on the Global Peace Index's scale as a country with easy access to weapons, a high murder rate, poorly functioning government, low respect for human rights and political instability. Homicide rate: El Salvador Latin America has the highest murder rate in the world for young adults, 15-24. But El Salvador tops the list of the world's most dangerous countries for the young – and has one of the highest murder rates for people of all ages, according to the Latin American Technological Information Network. Inflation: Zimbabwe When inflation in the southern African nation shot above 1 million per cent in the past year, worldwide cries went up for President Robert Mugabe's resignation. Now Zimbabweans carry sacks of newly printed cash to pay for a loaf of bread, and those with jobs choose between lunch and a bus ride to work. Mugabe is still in power. Gender gap: Yemen Greater equality between the sexes means better health, living standard and lifespan for women. The reverse is true in Yemen, where, the World Economic Forum says, lack of education, poor health care, lack of job opportunity and inability to press for change through the political process put women at risk. Life expectancy: Swaziland Afflicted with dire poverty and the world's highest HIV infection rate, the tiny southern African kingdom of 1 million has a shockingly low life expectancy of 32 – less than half the world's average. The royal family has a monopoly on the economy, and the majority of Swaziland's people live on about $1 a day. Literacy: Mali The large, landlocked West African country was, ironically, one of the world's centres of Islamic scholarship, and is believed to have founded the first university. Now, fewer than 23 per cent of men and women can read and write, according to the UN Development Program, which rates it at the bottom of the global literacy scale. Freedom of speech: Eritrea Since the government banned all privately owned media in 2001, things have grown steadily worse for journalists, with crackdowns on media, arrests, reports of torture, disappearances and deaths in custody. "President Issaias Afeworki and his small clan of paranoid nationalists continue to run the country like a vast open prison," says Reporters Without Borders. |

24 Hours to New Year: Generator fume kills 12 - Police inspector commits suicide - 3 killed as PDP members clash in Ogun BARELY 24 hours to the New Year, tragedy has struck in three states as no fewer than 16 persons died in different circumstances. In Owerri, Imo State, 12 people suffocated to death from a generator fume at Obile in Ohaji district of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, while a Police Inspector, Mr. Okigbochie Stephen, committed suicide by hanging in Okeho, Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State. At a peace meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, three people were reportedly killed, while scores sustained injuries during a fracas.(Lala - At a peace meeting?) Reports said that the victims of the generator fume were in a room, watching a film and slept off when the incident happened. The victims, it was learnt, were watching the film when suddenly, the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) interrupted the power supply to the area. One of them went to put on the generator which was placed at the passage of the house, with the front door of the house shut. Eleven of the 15 occupants of the room were said to have died in their sleep, while one of the three who were unconscious and were taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, died at the hospital. At the time of filing this report, survivors were still lying ill at the FMC. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Linus Nwainu, confirmed the incident. He said 11 of the victims had been buried without autopsy. In Oyo State, an Inspector of Police with the state Police Command, Mr. Okigbochie Stephen, has committed suicide by hanging as a result of “poor condition of service.” Inspector Stephen was said to have taken his life after 31 years in service. He was the station officer at the Ilero Police Division, Okeho before he committed suicide. After several days of absence at his duty post, the Divisional Crime Officer, Mr. Sekoni Anthony, was said to have ordered the officer in-charge of operations and training to check him (the deceased) at his residence in Lafian, Okeho. At his residence, Inspector Stephen was said to have been found dangling. The deceased, it was gathered, left behind two suicide notes. The first one was addressed to members of the division while the second was addressed to nobody in particular. According to him, “this is the end of my life from this wicked world. I can’t bear this any longer. “The N120,000 inside my pocket is for my children. Whenever they come, let them know that I have died. Please, bury my corpse here, no need of carrying me home. The Nigeria Police is a very dangerous job. Please take note. “Please my GSM contained my children’s numbers. Let them know that I am no more. Please thanks,” part of the suicide note read. Part of the suicide note which was addressed to members of the division also read: “Dear fellow division, this is to inform you all that I cannot withstand all the evils that have surrounded me in this wicked world. “The DCO should check all the arms and ammunition in the armoury. I make sure that all are correct. May God Almighty bless wherever we go.” Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ms. Olabisi Okuwobi, said the incident was being investigated. The remains of the late Inspector have been deposited at Baptist Hospital, Ilero. The lingering crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State took a frightening dimension on Tuesday, as three people were feared killed, when rival factions of the party from Ijebu North Local Government Area engaged each other in a free-for- all. The incident, the Nigerian Tribune learnt, started around 11.30 a.m. when some people believed to be supporters of some politicians in the local government clashed outside the PDP secretariat, leading to the death of the three people, while some were reported to be injured. One of the victims was identified as Ahmed Wahab. The tension at the party secretariat was high when the Nigerian Tribune visited the place as people were not allowed into the secretariat. It was learnt that trouble started shortly after the commencement of the meeting when an 18-seater bus with registration number XC112 JGB stormed the party secretariat at Oke-Imosan, and people suspected to be thugs started shooting indiscriminately. The bus, according to an eyewitness, had the inscription of “Ako Matole Line 02” on it. Nigerian Tribune gathered that the rivalry was allegedly between the chairman of the local government, Alhaji Tele Ogunjobi and the state Commissioner for Works, Mr. Segun Adekoya. It was gathered that there had been a running battle over who controls the leadership of the party between Alhaji Ogunjobi and some other leaders of the party. The leadership of the party in the local government area had set up a disciplinary committee to investigate the internal crisis in the party and was scheduled to be held at Ijebu-Igbo. It took the intervention of the chairman of the party in the state, Chief Joju Fadairo and the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Bukola Olopade, to bring the situation under control. The state secretary of the PDP, Chief Pegba Otemolu, told newsmen that the meeting had to be shifted to the party secretariat in Abeokuta based on security reports. According to him, “They were supposed to meet in Ago Iwoye on Monday but the meeting had to be moved to Abeokuta because of security concern. Thank God that the meeting was moved; what would have happened if the meeting had been held in Ago Iwoye?” Mr. Deji Kalejaiye, the Director of Organisation of the party and the state Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Okoye Ikemefuna, denied the report that three people were killed in the fracas. Kalejaiye said, “I can tell you authoritatively that the people (gunmen) did not enter the secretariat; the policemen secured the gate and the people could not enter. What happened were just skirmishes, but I'm not aware that people died,” he said. The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Dipo Ayeni, who spoke with newsmen in Ogere, said the police would commence a manhunt for the perpetrators of the disturbance. Ayeni said, “We will surely arrest those who were behind the crisis. We cannot fold our arms and watch some people turning the state into a violence spot. We have not made any arrest, but we will get them.” |
