Nwoye praises courage of Orumba North traditional rulers for shunning Obiano
The Dr.Tony Nwoye Campaign Organisation has praised the courage of the traditional rulers in Orumba North who recently refused to welcome Governor Willie Obiano during his recent campaign visit to the area to protest his failure to carry out projects in the area.
The Nwoye Campaign said that the failure of the governor to carry out any project was despite the flow of N4.137 billion as statutory allocation for Orumba North in the period Obiano has been in power.
Noting the forthrightness of the Igwes, the Nwoye Campaign said that the traditional rulers had shown themselves to be elders who have put the interest of their people above any other consideration.
In the statement signed by Barrister Nonso Madu, the Nwoye Campaign charged every stakeholder with the interest of the state to show similar courage by giving Governor Obiano a red card on polling day.
“What the Igwes of Orumba North demonstrated when Willie Obiano came visiting was a great act of courage reflective of traditional rulers who have the interest of their people at heart.
“Many who are faint hearted would fear for their crowns or be carried away with the champagne that our governor is now using to entice voters. Orumba North traditional rulers have shown that their interests go beyond what a sitting governor can give to them, they have rather looked forward to the deeper interests of their people.
“This is a governor that has warehoused or wasted N4.137 billion allocated from the Federation Account for Orumba North since he was inaugurated in 2014 and that is besides what he inherited.”
“Voters everywhere in Anambra should show similar courage to reject Obiano and show him the red card on polling day.
The Nwoye Campaign vowed that the election of Dr. Nwoye as governor would change the way government relates with the people.
“Dr. Nwoye has his testimonial of performance as he has shown with his brief stay in the House of Representatives where his impact has been felt by those who elected him to represent the people of Anambra East/West Federal Constituency. As governor with executive power he would make more impact on the people without discrimination,” the Campaign said.

Later you tell me your a graduate and a university dropout because of cultist is trying to deceive you. As a matter of fact the criminal supposed to be in jail for what he did in Anambra years back. Say no to APC..Say no to Cultist Nwoye
Abeg park well. The only criminals on Anambra ballot are Thief Obiano and thief Obaze.
No court anywhere on this planet has convicted Honourable Tony Nwoye of any crime.
No amount of blackmail or propaganda can stop Dr Tony Okechukwu Nwoye from becoming the next governor of Anambra.
[quote author=MXrap post=61685428]Tony is a hardened criminal. A cultist that was rusticated at unn. We cannot allow such illiterate in our state.[/of quote]
Obuano is a Big thief. He has stolen over 175 Billion naira of our money. Obiano must go to jail.
No force on this planet can stop Dr Tony Okechukwu Nwoye from becoming the next governor of Anambra.
Watch the next governor of Anambra Dr Nwoye declaring that Obiano is a Big thief:
BUHARIjubrin: Bia APC agent must you quote everybody
Never met Dr Nwoye. Nor am I anybody's agent or paid by anybody.
My goal is to kick that drunken thief Obiano who had stolen over 175 Billion naira of my state's Commonwealth., back to Lagos where he is registered to vote, until Jonathan and thief Obi, imposed him on my people.
No force on this planet can stop Dr Tony Okechukwu Nwoye from emerging the next governor of Anambra.
naaija: More pictures from the Protest against the forceful lock of people's source of livelihood, at least Lalasticlala and Mynd44 can see for themselves.
Don't mind Anuofia, drunken thief, Obiano agent.
Xrap is the only clown paid agent promoting the out-going drunken thief, unelected Obiano who calls himself "governor "
Anambra people will NEVER EVER support thief Obiano again. Never.
The next governor of Anambra is Dr Tony Okechukwu Nwoye. Period.
Nebuzaradan: gbam that's exactly what they keep repeating on the radio
Obiano should realize that apga died in the heart of igbos especially Anambra people the day he chose to side with the murderous buharian army and saw his fellow igbos been massacred instead of him to play neutral or even keep himself out of it he decided to support them. he also supported the numerous army check points in anambra state as if we're at war. that was the day apga died as igbo party. apga just like apc and the rest are just all about politics
Kingsley1000: government of obiano is the one of the biggest fraud in Nigeria.so much noise and many billboards but nothing on ground, all the roads today at anambra was done by Peter obi/ngige, almost every day the governor is signing memorandum of understanding, but you won't see anything tangible ,he said he attracted 50billion dollar investment, where are the industries/ companies located? he said he exported ugu/bitter leaf to europe which yield over 10billion dollar, have you gone to the site where all these things are cultivated? billboards everywhere, I have been going round to see where the vegetables or the yams is being cultivated, its just a pure lie, look at governor ambode of Lagos and umahi of ebonyi, in less than 3yrs into office see how good they have performed without making any noise, just last week, obiano came to my town and flagged off a road with one catapillar and left since then Nothing is happening there , go to the site of cargo airport he signed the mou with Chinese firm the place is till a tick evil forest .asides paying of salaries which is not an achievement, obiano did nothing in anambra except putting up Billboards and barbing and carving his hair...
BUHARIjubrin: Mine was from odenigbo FM. ...the market union leaders swiftly consulted all the radio station in the state for to make their stance clear.
It's only when election is around the corner that the drunkard realize the importance of closing markets to honor Ojukwu.
Recently, the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Dr. Tony Nwoye, perhaps in a deliberate choice to covey the real message of misappropriation of funds to the people, spoke in Igbo, he said : “Obiano bu Onye Ohi”.
Immediately, Gov. Obiano’s people went after him. Yesterday, as has become their trade mark, they wrote a stinking article against Nwoye on the backpage of the Sun. I hope Tony knows that the article came from them. He really needs to triple the exposure for the heath of the State.
But when a man speaks out of conviction, not even the tyrants threatening countenance can stop him from voicing out the truth. Thus, yesterday, at St Mary’s Catholic Church Awada, Dr. Tony Nwoye repeated what he said, this time slightly modified.
Shall we hear him: “in the history of the South-East, no Governor has stolen what Obiano steals from the treasury of the State. Obiano bu nnukwu Onye Ohi.” Strengthened by his conviction, Nwoye said that usually if anybody made such a weighty statement against anybody, the person accused went to court. He challenged Obiano to go to court if what he said was wrong. He said he had his facts.
Interestingly, Tony made a frank confession of how he, as the Chairman of the PDP in Anambra State with other PDP stakeholders, engaged in anti-party activities by secretly supporting Obi’s re-election bid, because Obi was doing extremely well. Using his town as an example, Nwoye said it was Obi that built the first road to Nsugbe in his first tenure, from 33 to the College and that in his second tenure he connected the two sides of Nsugbe. Additionally, he said, he did so much in Nsugbe schools.
He emphasized that if Obiano was doing well, that he would not be contesting and that only a wicked person who did not want the progress of Anambra State would support Obiano because of the grave harm he was doing to the State. Frank to a fault, Dr. Nwoye said the PDP candidate was a good man and that he would not deny a man with integrity and character because of an election. He finally said that if there were 5 votes, that the people should cast 3 for him and 2 for Oseloka because as a younger person he was more abreast with the problems of the State.
Oseloka has experience and I can assure you that what he sees sitting down cannot be seen by the younger ones even if they climb trees. In governance, experience matters and Oseloka has it in abundance.
With what Nwoye says recently, I think he has earned my respect. The society progresses when we challenge bad governance exuded by those that govern us. The exorcism by Fr. Mbaka is not enough to drive away whatever is… , we need to drive him away with our votes.
Anambra people cannot tolerate a man who cannot account for over 100 Billion Naira (adding set aside funds), received from his predecessor.
Anambra people cannot tolerate a man who has not bought 1 vehicles for our schools, yet he bought over 400 for his campaign. Anambra people cannot tolerate a man who was handed over a debt-free state but is now owing over 60 Billion Naira, thus enslaving posterity.
Anambra people cannot tolerate a man that did over 35 roads in his Village and is yet to complete one in my and your towns.
Anambra people cannot tolerate a man who abandonByed all major projects he inherited: Agulu Lake and Onitsha Hotels; Nnewi and Onitsha Malls, among others.
The Profile of Hon. Tony Okechukwu Nwoye, the flag-bearer of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the 2017 Gubernatorial elections in Anambra State.
Family Background
Born a twin in Onitsha, on 13th September 1974 to Chief Lawrence and Mrs. Christiana Nwoye of Offianta Nsugbe in Anambra East L.G.A of Anambra state, Tony Okechukwu Nwoye’s rise to the top echelon of the National politics has been nothing short of meteoric.
Early Life / Education
Mr Nwoye had his early education at Metropolitan Secondary School, Onitsha where he demonstrated outstanding academic excellence that immediately earned him admission into the prestigious College of Medicine of the University Of Nigeria. He furthered his quest for medical training at the College of Medicine, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki.
Political Career
While he has always demonstrated uncanny interest in political affairs from his childhood days, his political career blossomed during his days as a medical student in the University of Nigeria.
From asserting himself as an opinion leader in the University of Nigeria’s Medical Association (UNMSA) even as a very junior student, Tony led the movement that tenaciously but diplomatically pressured the authorities of the University of Nigeria into lifting the ban on students’ unionism after many years of having the student movement under locks and keys.
Following that, he won a seat to represent medical students in the Student’s union House of Representatives, a feat that is notable as Tony was coming from the youngest eligible medical class. He subsequently contested and won the Speakership of S.U.G House of Representatives, defeating older and more established student politicians in that epochal feat. He was the first medical student to serve in that capacity in the history of University of Nigeria.
He ran a very vibrant House, fought tenaciously for the rights of the students and refused to compromise on his principles of honest/sincere representation. Comrade Tony Nwoye never gave up on his principled and courageous leadership even in the face of threats and even academic victimization from the authorities then.
In December 2003, Tony was elected the National president of National Association of Nigeria Student (NANS) in a fiercely contested election. He is the first and only Igbo student to have attained that height. He recorded unprecedented successes in that office. He fought the Federal government to a standstill on many issues concerning the Nigerian students’ rights and welfare and in a demonstration of rare political savvy uncommon for someone his age.
Political Breakthrough
He got the Federal Government of Nigeria under President Olusegun Obasanjo to take the students’ position into consideration in the various government policies on education and students’ welfare. Tony by his strides became a household name in youth leadership and movement in the country. Little wonder that he was thereafter elected the Assistant Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Anambra State PDP in 2005.
By 2006, he rose from that office to become the substantive Chairman of the State Executive Committee of the Anambra State PDP at the unbelievable young age of 31, making him the youngest State Chairman of a political party in the entire nation – a national record. Most remarkably, he went ahead to deliver for PDP and recorded a resounding victory in the State and Federal positions at the 2007 General Election. In 2010, owing to his outstanding track record in public service, Tony was beckoned on by his people to bring his vast leadership experience to bear more directly on them.He thus contested and very easily won a seat to represent his people of Anambra East/West constituency in the Federal House of Representatives.
However, the retrogressive forces that has held Anambra state hostage for donkey years contrived to cause his certificate of Return to be issued to their crony who never ran. A firm believer in the rule-of-law, Tony challenged this illegality in court and won! Currently, he is a member – elect of the Federal House of Representatives.
Tony is naturally an activist, a grass-root mobiliser, a consensus builder and a very consummate political strategist. He is easily at home with both the nobles and the ordinary folks even as he is quick to identify with the later as his primary constituency and, in his own words, ‘the focus of his foray into politics’. His love of people and desire to improve the lives of the down-trodden even at the risk of his personal and political interests marks him out as a politician of a different ilk.
In Tony, the Anambra people are being presented a leader with very rare combination of attributes – young but vastly experienced, dynamic, purposeful and a team player. He is result-oriented, an out-and-out grass root person but with very wide vertical reach. But beyond all these, the Anambra people will find in Comrade Tony Nwoye that youthful, up-to-date leader who despite of his obvious sophistication in contemporary politics, retains the common touch – the human element. He shares genuine comradeship with the youths and the masses and deeply empathizes with the dispossessed and the down trodden.
He feels their pains, shares their hopes and will address their needs. Little wonder he was nicknamed: “The Voice of the Masses” by the teeming population of Anambra State.
Tony Nwoye represents voice for peace, prosperity and progress. A credible alternative. He has promises to take a new direction with a fresh approach. His government if voted shall be a government by the people for the People. He is an Everyday Man working for Everyday People. He is the change we need. A voice we deserve. His mission is to build our future together: for our Children; our Community; our Future. A Leader who listens.
Other Honors / Positions
Tony has served the nation selflessly and meritoriously in various capacities some of which include:
2004: Member, Presidential committee against Illegal arms and violent crimes 2005: Member, National Political Reform conference, Member Federal committee on 2006 census, 2005 – Leader of the Nigerian Delegation to the World Youth Summit in Venezuela. 2006: Non – Executive Director, Hadejiyah Jamaare River Basin, Kano – Federal ministry of Water Resources.
He is the owner and non executive Director of Vintage Consolidated Ltd, a construction, building and Engineering company. He is also a trustee of many NGO’s. He is a devout Catholic and is married with children.
nonsobaba: Can the OP mention one hospital where Tony practised medicine because I have researched thoroughly and don't know of any. Unless the DR title he is bearing means 'Desperate Ruffian'
Your university or professional training does not determine your future career.
Many medical doctors, lawyers, Engineers, never practiced their profession a single day of their lives.
In any case, he is not running for President of NMA.
Dr Tony Okechukwu Nwoye shall be the next governor of Anambra. Period.

clevvermind: THIS LOOKS LIKE WHAT APC HAVE ARRANGED FOR BLACKMAILING.
Can you actually read?
"The APGA thugs allegedly shot an APC member, Sunday Anibogu, moved towards Hon Tony Nwoye who was addressing the people of Anaku, before the youths of Anaku moved in with the police, blocked their exit and apprehended some.
Oseloka Obaze and Tony Nwoye will lose this election. Take this to the bank!
Never in the history of Anambra State has any gubernatorial race produced three unequally matched candidates as this one. Barley two weeks to Election Day, it is hard to tell the difference between Oseloka Obaze and Tony Nwoye. Neither has risen above the echo to deliver either a memorable rhetoric or a dramatic rupture that could cause a scare in the camp of the ruling party. Neither has produced more than a few incoherent grunts. Neither has the charisma, the elan, the elegance of thought and language to sway fence-sitters to their side.
And sadly too, neither Nwoye nor Obaze has the oomph. Both are dour, colourless, befuddled and uninspiring. Obaze deserves more pity. He walks like a constipated man who has stayed too long in a toilet. And Nwoye is probably the ugliest man in Anambra State today; a strange mutant from Nsugbe, a land of beauty. A choice between the two is a choice between six and a half dozen. It leaves you with empty hands!
Outside of Governor Willie Obiano, the only sparkle in this race comes from Osita Chidoka. But he is in the wrong geopolitical zone and in the wrong party. Case closed! Even so, there is a growing feeling that Chidoka carries himself as one who is intensely aware of his good looks and overall effect on the women folk. So, his is a case of “over-do” or “notice-me.” What the Igbo call “onye nlecha.” Nlecha is seriousy frowned at in a man among the Igbo. There’s a silent understanding that political leadership requires more than good looks and cultivated manners. It calls for more grit than glamour. As the Igbo say, “mma nwoke nalu níyi mana mma nwanyi na ebutelu ya okwu.”
Chidoka’s excessive sense of self-worth is therefore out of place and out of time. Had Osita not taken himself too seriously, he would have realised that his candidature is rather absurd. Osita is from Anambra Central. The auguries favour only candidates from Anambra North at the moment. This is clearly understood. His resolve to forge ahead with a doomed ambition which everyone knows would crash, gives him away as a cheap attention seeker who is merely positioning for patronage.
In reality, of all the candidates lining out against Governor Willie Obiano, Oseloka Obaze cuts the most pathetic picture. After all the lavish praises heaped on him by his godfather’s two-for-a-kobo spinners, Obaze has become a captive of his own inordinate ambition; staying mute as a baby that is too scared of offending its angry mother. He is never heard at campaign rallies. It is not even certain that the rallies are his or a thinly disguised effort to shore up the flagging glory of his godfather. Obaze’s comments do not make the headlines. No quotable quote is credited to him. No sparkling slab of thought. He is not even allowed to fashion out his own economic blueprint. He was forced to accept his godfather’s primitive ANIDS as his panacea for the problems of the state. Obaze is everything that a gubernatorial candidate should never be. His godfather has totally eclipsed him. Sadly, two weeks to Election Day, Obaze has shown no signs of emerging from the thick shadow of Peter Obi. This has hardened the impression that he is a mere puppet on a string…Peter Obi’s 3rd Term shadow!
If Obaze is pathetic, Tony Nwoye is tragic. All the perfumes in Arabia cannot wash off the odium that clings to his name. That man is blamed for everything that is rotten and broken in Anambra State. His claims of innocence elicit only derisive laughter from people who know him closely. Nwoye’s profile reads like a long list of disaster. He wears this strange honour of being one of the few medical students who began the study of medicine in a prestigious school and then abruptly ended it in a backwater college. This leaves many gaps that only Nwoye can fill in. Again, while medical students are rarely involved in politics or activism due to the discipline in pursuing a medical degree, Nwoye was a stormy petrel in his college days with fingers in every pie. Worse still, he has no record of any serious medical practice after graduation. Rather, his name was whispered in circles where discussions centred on the shadowy arsonists who burned down public buildings and kidnapped a sitting governor some years ago.
And though Nwoye has made good and spruced himself up to become a federal lawmaker; he is reputed to be one of the mutest lawmakers in the lower legislative chamber; making little impression on any of his colleagues and appearing lost more than half of his entire time in the National Assembly. He is not known to have sponsored any important bills or raised his voice on burning issues concerning his constituency. Nwoye was content with making up the number.
It is therefore not surprising that Nwoye has had a most uneventful race to the Government House in Awka. As a candidate who fancies himself a representative of the youth, Nwoye has yet to articulate the dilemma of the Nigerian youth in a gerontocracy like Nigeria. Indeed, how can he? Nwoye is seriously handicapped. He is more brawn than brain. Nothing of weight has ever slipped through his mouth. When some less critical Nigerians were waiting to hear a new political language from a supposedly youthful candidate, Nwoye came out sounding like a fossilized dinosaur. He opened his campaign by calling governor Obiano a thief. If that is his strategy, it is bad one. Many people dismissed him with a wave of the hand after that goof. They concluded that he had nothing to offer.
Strangely, the final nail into Nwoye’s political coffin was hammered in by his godfather, Prince Engineer Arthur Eze. In one voluble moment, the multi-billionaire had described Nwoye as “a poor boy from a poor village” whom he wanted to make a governor. In one sentence, Prince Eze had practically destroyed whatever chances Nwoye had in the coming election. He did it by his boastful, brash and demeaning suggestion that he alone could plant Nwoye in the state house. In order words, he is the egocentric godfather who has no need for guile. In order words too, Ndi Anambra have no choice than to live with his cheeky imposition of this terribly flawed man as governor. Eze fancies himself the fairy godfather whose very words ought to be an enchantment to the ears of his hapless followers. It does not matter that his choice is widely seen as the very antithesis to everything that pulsates with life and colour. This godfather is bigger than the state. He is the chest-thumping political Alusi who must be obeyed.
What emerges from the above analysis is the imposing image of Governor Willie Obiano. It is crystal clear that Obiano’s immense personage looms over the Anambra horizon with the sound of victory echoing in the distance. What will not escape anyone who has followed Obiano’s first term in office is the fact that he started campaigning for his return early. In fact, much of the foundation for the success of Governor Obiano as we know it today was laid during his First 100 Days in Office. It is to his credit that none of the people challenging him has any clearly communicated Vision and Mission for Anambra State. Worse still, when people expected Oseloka Obaze to come up with a robust economic blueprint, he brandished Peter Obi’s discredited ANIDS as his magic wand for Anambra State. Similarly, Tony Nwoye has no economic plan whatsoever. The only thing Nwoye knows is that he wants power. As for what he would do with that power, the man has absolutely no clue.
From all indication, the next governor of Anambra State is already known to anyone with any ability to see. It is so clear that no one can miss it. And if we care to look in the mirror, we can see it. We can all see the Face of the Winner. We can all see Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano!
Absolute Trash.
Anambra will NEVER EVER Vote for Thief Obiano again. Never

Now the police and the DSS must protect our next governor, Dr Tony Okechukwu Nwoye, from Obiano's APGA assassins.
Breaking News: Tony Nwoye Escapes Assassination Attempt
The All progressives Congress [APC] candidate for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election, Mr Tony Nwoye has escaped an alleged assassination attempt.
The dastardly act was perpetrated by one Mr Ikechukwu Okolo, the younger brother to the All Progressives Grand Alliance [APGA] TC chairman of Ayamelum Local Government Area.
The condemnable act took place during Tony Nwoye’s campaign exercise at Anaku, in Ayamelum Local Government.
Our correspondent, Mr Eneh Victor Chigozie wrote from the scene:
"This is the face of the leader of APGA thugs sent to assassinate Tony Nwoye, the APC governorship candidate at Anaku, in Ayamelum local govt this evening.
"His name is Ikechukwu Okolo, the younger brother to the APGA TC chairman, Ayamelum LG.
"The APGA thugs allegedly shot an APC member, Sunday Anibogu, moved towards Hon Tony Nwoye who was addressing the people of Anaku, before the youths of Anaku moved in with the police, blocked their exit and apprehended some.
"Others are said to be on the run, as the victims are being rushed to hospital.
"APGA must be called to order. The TC chairman of Ayamelum must say what he knows on today's attack led by his younger brother."
patrick89: There are two things that I know that is certain in life. They are death and Tony Nwoye not becoming my governor! Until, Anambra turns to osun kogi and IMO, we are not giving any room to criminals and cultists deal with it! The blood of two barristers killed by Nwoye have not avenged. Curse of our land will be unto any man or woman that support criminals and cultists!
No Court any where on this planet has ever convicted Honourable Tony Nwoye of any crime.
Therefore, no amount of baseless accusations. blackmail, or propaganda can stop Dr Tony Okechukwu Nwoye from becoming the next governor of Anambra.
OF all the candidates that would contest the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State, the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Tony Nwoye stands out.
Apart from being the youngest candidate among the major political parties (he is 43 years), Nwoye had garnered enough political experience which, perhaps, is what had propelled his ambition to govern Anambra State from March 17, 2018. As a former president of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, during his days as a medical student at the Enugu Campus of the University of Nigeria, Nwoye came to limelight nationally.
It was apparently based on his managerial ability that informed the decision of the Anambra State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to appoint him the state chairman of the party and he moved the party forward.
During his days as the state chairman, PDP was the dominant political party in Anambra State as it won all the state and National Assembly seats, as well as the governorship of the state in 2007, though the tenure of the then elected governor, Dr. Andy Uba, was short- lived following the tenure interpretation of the then governor, Mr. Peter Obi by the Supreme Court.
In 2013, despite the galaxy of governorship aspirants on the PDP platform, Nwoye dusted all of them to pick the ticket and would have won the election if not for the role played by the leadership of his party, which chose to allow the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the state to produce the governor. This was done so that APGA would vote for the PDP candidate during the presidential election of 2015.
Not deterred by that development, Nwoye contested for the House of Representatives in 2015 and won. Although his victory dance was somewhat delayed following protracted legal tussle, he was eventually sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives for Anambra East and West federal constituency. He has been in the National Assembly for barely two years, but his impact has been felt by his constituents.
Nwoye began early to nurse the governorship ambition for 2013 poll, even as he often argued then that his decision to contest would be dependent on the performance of his brother and incumbent governor, Chief Willie Obiano, who is from the same local government with him. His argument was that Obiano was not performing and he needed to sit up, otherwise he (Nwoye) would give the governor serious challenge to redeem the image of his people.
Though he defected from the PDP to the ruling APC officially sometime in 2016, he was already working with the party’s lawmakers at the National Assembly, which was why he was able to get a lot of things for his constituency within a short period. So far, he had carried out three empowerment programmes, facilitated employment and offered scholarship to a large number of his constituents, to the envy of other federal constituencies in the state. So, when he declared interest to contest for governorship, many threw their weight behind him to be the governor.
However, some people felt he did not have much chance, considering that the likes of Senator Andy Uba, unarguably his political mentor and Dr. Obinna Uzor who had been vying for governorship for a long time were in the race. But the way he floored all the other 12 aspirants in APC was an indication that Nwoye might spring a surprise during the November poll.
The crowd he pulled during the rally, including the fact that the federal government, led by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo was fully on ground to lend support to him, was also an indication that he is the candidate to beat in the election. The presence of many APC governors and political big wigs from across the country had sent a strong signal to his opponents who initially did not give him a chance. Since the flag-off of his campaign, almost all the APC aspirants that lost to him have joined hands to ensure that the party produces the next governor of the state.
His chances are even made brighter by the fact of allegations of non performance by the incumbent governor, coupled with the strong backing he is receiving from one of the richest Igbo, Prince Arthur Eze, who has consistently argued that Nwoye is the type of person Anambra needs at this time to bridge the gap between the old and young generations.
While accepting the APC flag from the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun in Onitsha, Nwoye urged the Anambra electorate to trust him, assuring that he would not disappoint them if elected governor. He promised to assist poor students in the state with payment of their WAEC fees and a downward review of school fees if elected to ensure that every child of school age went to school. He also promised to improve facilities in schools and health institutions and create jobs for the teeming population of unemployed youths in the state.
His promise to ensure full autonomy for the local governments has also endeared him to the people because, as he alleged, the APGA–led government in the state has been siphoning local government funds in the past three years. “Let me assure our people that monies accruing to the local government would go to them if I become the governor,” Nwoye has consistently been telling the people. The feeling many people in Anambra State have is that Nwoye, as a governor, would not be afraid to take decisions that have to do with the welfare of the people, which is one of the reasons he is being taken serious in the forthcoming election.
