luvmijeje:Yep, nothing to do with xenophobia, like most of the gruesome images people have seen about the xenophobia, just random pics from the net (alot happened in Nigeria). There's also this very unfortunate video of a mob setting youths who confessed to murder ablaze. The video went viral when someone misleadingly posted it as showing foreign youths set on fire by a xenophobic mob. here's my thread About the so called xenophobic video. https://www.nairaland.com/2268102/youths-burnt-alive-south-africa |
luvmijeje:see my thread about the fake news and images about the xenophobic attacks, they're from Nigerian sources. https://www.nairaland.com/2277997/xenophobia-gruesome-graphic-images-misrepresent#33138290 |
People talking about ongoing attacks, what ongoing attacks? The last reported attack was the Mozambican (all perpetrators arrested), happened last week Friday. Over 300 arrested. Some people have long returned to their communities. Only Nigerians are still talking about xenophobia, though none have been killed. WHY? |
luvmijeje:I don't know, the last reported attack was last week (the Mozambican ), no Nigerian was killed, though property was damaged. Some have even returned to their communities. its just politics now From the news feeds about the xenophobia, other than SA ofcos, I only see Nigerian sources still reporting about xenophobia, everyone has left the story behind. |
Bujumbura - Witnesses say two protestors have been shot dead during clashes with police in the capital of Burundi. Clashes were taking place in several parts of Bujumbura the day after the president launched a controversial bid to stay in power for a third term and despite a government ban on protests. Independent eyewitnesses said on Sunday one person was shot dead in the city's Ngagara district and another in Musaga after police used live ammunition to disperse crowds. One body was left in the streets while another was taken away by Red Cross workers, several eyewitnesses said. Civil society A Burundian opposition leader, Frodebu Leonce Ngendakumana, said: "We had called for peaceful protests and that is what happened, but the police and ruling party militia fired real bullets at the protestors." Local media reports added that several more people have been wounded in the city, while several police have also been hurt in stone throwing. Burundi's Interior Minister Edouard Nduwimana condemned what he said were "uprisings called for by certain politicians and civil society". Opposition figures and rights groups say the president's effort to cling to power is unconstitutional and could push Burundi - which emerged from civil war in 2006 - back into violence. AFP |
samtol4:I get you, but from what I've been reading the government doesn't want to repatriate any body, many people have returned to their communities and the Nigerians who lost some property were going to be compensated according to Obanikoro. Seems you know more than what's been reported on the news, so I won't argue with you. Thanku. |
luvmijeje:over 300 have been arrested, the 4 who killed the Mozambican appeared in court. |

?? You disagree? |
iterator24:So what more can the SA government do, there're all these anti-xenophobia campaigns and matches attended by thousands, people have returned to their communities, there're special courts setup to deal with xenophobic crimes even the foreign organizations are happy with the government's response so far. why recall the ambassador now? |
iterator24:and that wasn't directed at foreigners, just people angry that the HRCSA is investigating their king. |
iterator24:the problem is that each time a foreigner gets attacked for whatever reason, its automatically attributed to xenophobia. There was a zim women found dead recently, it was attributed to xenophobia, untill it came out that her zim boyfriend was behind the killing. what about the SA women who was recently killed by her Malawian boyfriend, and cut to pieces, is that xenophobia? The killer might even be a fellow Zim. SA has a high murder rate, foreigners will also be victims and perpetrator. is this xenophobic? A group of 400 residents picketed outside the Cala magistrate's court morning where Rendy Ussen of Malawi stands accused of killing his girlfriend. http://www.heraldlive.co.za/protest-malawian-man-appears-murder-charge/ |
nduchucks:Australians will also be executed, Australians get 72-hour notice of execution in Indonesia: http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN0NG0JH20150425?irpc=932 |

The gruesome and graphic images/videos shown about xenophobia aren't related to events taking place or south Africa, don't believe everything you see. In 6 months they'll be crying for Jona. |
Some people won't let the xeno thing slide, inventing stories now. |
V0lv0:I could pretty much tell from your latest comments and you once mentioned it in one thread. |
osystein:the thing I've been pondering is who's behind all the fake stories, images and videos about xenophobic attacks in south Africa all over social media. I previously thought they were people wanting to darken south africas image. now its clear that xenophobic elements in south Africa were spreading the false info to scare foreigners so they'd leave or those planning to go there, will no longer want to. |
Very interesting article by the war nerd about recent xenophobic violence in south africa The War Nerd: The Art of Turf War http://pando.com/2015/04/19/the-war-nerd-the-art-of-turf-war/ |
