Health / Re: Cheap Eye Lens by otilowaju(f): 9:40am On Jul 27, 2010 |
How cheap? If you know the number of your lenses you can get them from those road side hawkers but you run the risk of damaging your eyes . However, good and affordable medicated eye lenses can be bought at a shop (upstairs, back) within the complex directly opposite Awolowo (glass) house in Ikeja. It's the only optical shop in the complex. |

Business / Who Knows Where 'stop Center' On Allen Avenue Moved To? by otilowaju(f): 12:19pm On Jul 26, 2010 |
Stop Centre, a popular supermarket at Allen Avenue/Toyin Street roundabout has since moved to another location. Where it moved to precisely I do not know and there is a particular item I used to buy from them that I need now and do not know where else to pick it from. In fact Ive checked other stores in the area but couldn't find it. I also asked around but nobody knew the new address. Anyone who knows where they moved to should please help me out as soon as possible. Thanks a bunch. |

Food / Re: Mamas Over 35 What Was Used To Make Food Taste Before Maggi Came by otilowaju(f): 5:08pm On Jun 17, 2010 |
Iru and ogiri were used in place of maggi in those days. People who crave for natural taste still do till now. If you don't like seeing them in your soup you can grind/blend them to paste and you'll still have your wonderful taste and tantalizing aroma. Lots of onion ground with your peppr or sliced in your soup/stew also bring out nice taste. In addition, out mothers/grandmas cooked in clay pots and I tell you food cooked in these earthen items tastes natural and better than those cooked in modern cooking pots (though that's what I use too). I also use magi, but sparingly. 2 Likes 1 Share |
Food / Safest Container For Moimoi Healthwise (leaf, Nylon, Tin, Aluminium Cups?) by otilowaju(f): 4:22pm On Jun 17, 2010 |
Our mothers made tasty moimoi wrapped in leaves. Modernisation made us their children turn to nylon (less clumsy and easy to dispose) and plastic containers (such used by eateries to serve salad (easy to clean)! Besides, leaves are not easy to come by these days and they are not easy to preserve. Over time we learnt that heated/steamed nylon and plastic containers can cause cancer (pls check the attachment). I decided then to buy alumnium cups with cover but am still afraid of using them for fear of chemical. I beg you house, does anyone know if its healthy to use aluminium cups/plates to steam moimoi Or is there a healthier alternative to all thesae cos I must always eat my moimoi o!!! Thanks. OOps, couldn't attach! Let me paste the info beneath here "At Last, The reason of Cancer might have been discovered! This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in your life John Hopkins Hospital Update- Circulation Purpose 1. No plastic containers in micro. 2. No water bottles in freezer . 3. No plastic wrap in microwav , Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially bosom cancer , Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimot!, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us .He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers , This especially applies to foods that contain fat , He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body . Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else . Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons , Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked , the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food" . |

Family / Re: Which Other Food Can I Introduce To My Baby Of 10 Mths Apart From Indomie? by otilowaju(f): 4:23pm On Feb 11, 2010 |
I have a baby of about the same age and with only 2 teeth up and 2 down which means he cannot chew but only swallow. In the morning I pack in his school (creche) bag (in addition to his cereal) yam pottage, beans pottage, rice, potato, amala/semo/wheat & ewedu or ogbono. He eats almost everything we adults eat except that I cook them till very, very soft. The yam I mash totally with palmoil (no veg oil pls) and very small dry pepper and little salt (no maggi pls). Yes, I boil titus fish and debone completely and add to all the above. I also blend dry crayfish and alternate with fish. For his age, you should try and remove the skin of the beans before cooking (heard its the skin that triggers stooling ). If its Irish potato I add fresh egg to it and mash together, its also delicious to taste and my baby enjoys all of them. Even the amala and ewedu!!! 1 Like |
