From Jewish extra biblical sources,(Midrash) Abram's Father Terah was an idol maker. One day Abram destroyed idols in his father's shop when a woman came to sacrifice to them.

Ultimately Terah his father, the idol maker took him to King Nimrod and Abraham made a fool out of Nimrod over what elements were worthy of worship.

Nimrod ordered Abram to be thrown into a fire but Abram was unharmed. Nimrod killed Haran Abrams brother by throwing him into the fire.

So Abram fled from Ur with his father Terah, his wife Sarai and orphaned Nephew, Lot.

I have also found out that God does not call people randomly to do stuff...he must have seen something in them that pleases him.

In Abram's case, he had shown his love for a montheistic God over idol worship and this moved God deeply.

Remember he is the one before whom nothing is hidden.

I don't understand the need to rename a higher institution that has already been issuing certificates to students with a particular name.

If you want to honour someone, then go build a brand new school and name it after him or go name some other public facility that does not and has not issued degree completion certificates.

Hospital, Stadiums, Bridges, Roads but not schools that issue have issued certificates under a different name in the past.

The catholic church persecuted the heugenots in France and most of them fled on boats to America.

Martin Luther the originator of the protestant movement himself persecuted other Christians like the anababtists that were against some of his beliefs.

Not to talk of men like Ulrich Zwingli. They all killed other Christians in the name of Christ. In fact Zwingli a protestant died in action in 1531 at the battle of Kappel while fighting catholics
