jefy: i think the answer to this problem is to legalise the operations of these local refinaries.if this is done, investors will purchase the right equipments and machines to carry out local refining of products..when it becomes legal, there wouldnt be need for illegal exploratory activities or security operatives blowing up products of those who refused to settle. If this is done, the soots will be gone for good.,our leaders know what to do,but certain interests wount allow them....blowing up of local illegal refinning stations just dont happen, there is always a black agenda behind every action..my point exactly, even security operatives are not helpful. They are part and pacel of our problem in the Niger Delta. MAN MUST WAK You can't legalize illegality, those guys operations are by themselves harmful to the environment. Then when you add the fact that they steal the crude then there is another dimension. Add another fact that these people are fully armed and have subdued and driven the villagers out of their villages then you can understand the purported high handedness of the Nigerian armed forces. |

Charles478: Happens in Warri too, around the host communities of the refinery. I stayed at a hotel at Ekpan in Warri for about 3 days in February and was seeing the refinery flare but there was no soot which makes me to believe its the guys doing the illegal refining in the creeks in Rivers State that are the chief culprits. |

jefy: i honestly can't believe this shit you just said. Or maybe you're not based here? It's worse in old p.h township were illegal oil exploration is heavy..the soots here are very visible especially in the wee hours of the morning...black nostrils, underfeet blackness, blackness of surfaces, flying sooths etc are some of the visible signs. Only God know's what goes down into our terminals..A wicked world, people make money not minding if others die.. THE AIR IN SOME PARTS OF P.H IS NOT PURE It is only an unfortunate person living in Port Harcourt that will say S/he is not aware of the soot or that those pictures were doctored. |

chinose: Before any one begins to insult or curse WIKE, please tell me who controls the Army, Navy, NCDSC, IMMIFRATION, and Police.During the last Administration of GEJ I saw many illegal bunkering sites destroyed, but today it is been done in the Open. What is Soot?, it is simply the product of incomplete combustion of carbon or any carbon containing material, substance, going by that it means the uncontrolled burning of tyre, wood, waste , refuse illegal refining of Hydrocarbon produces soot. So what constitutes the larger source, it is from the uncontrolled destruction and setting on fire dump illegal refining sites and their storage or bunkers of crude and its refined products. So what should be done differently, the federal Government should put in aplace a site for recovery, treatment and storage of recovered stolen crude oil, illegally refined products without destroying them and polluting the environemt in the name of destroying illegal site. Nobody is blaming WIKE but he has a lot to do in informing the citizens to stop the illegal activity through his commissioners. He may have to also take a back seat so as not to be seen as PDP vs APC or Upland vs Riverine, there is a commissioner for environment who could also be involved. |

xcolanto: The soot is caused by the FG and the military via the policy of burning illegal refinerys and vessels that carry these substandard products. How can the FG order the military to keep polluting our lands and waterways instead of confiscating these products to be used legally.
A lot of times these black soots are caused by the burning done by the military and there are videos on YouTube of military choppers shooting at these vessels that go up in smoke causing this soots.
The rivers state government must through the state assembly declare the burning of illegal refinerys and vessels illegal so the soots can be reduced drastically. You want to publicize the soot as state vs FG choosing to remain silent on the culpability of many villages in Rivers State that engage in illegal refining of stolen crude setting up kpo fire and then sending soot into the environment, you also are silent on the evil going on in eleme axis where the companies there are polluting the environment. |
