MrEverest: Very pathetic indeed! I feel your pain bro. I saw all these coming since last year August, I relocated to a cheaper house, reached an agreement with my landlord to pay him rent instalmentally for my office & gradually converted my land that has been lying fallow(actually allowed a poor family to be farming on it) to a plantain plantation. Buhari has finished us but I blame all the educated people that voted for an old man with analog brain who has nothing to offer. Its indeed terrible times!! So you guys actually believe you voted Buhari into power, wow. |

omohayek: Why is it that Nigerians who defend this oil subsidy scheme (and all its attendant shortages, bunkering and smuggling) never bother to ask themselves why even countries like Cameroon, Niger, Benin, Togo and Ghana never suffer from similar problems, even when they have no oil of there own? The answer is simple: their governments don't attempt to interfere in the business of oil importing, refining or distribution! Nigeria's fuel problems are as self-inflicted as the shortage of phones back in the days when NITEL had a monopoly.
The answer to Nigeria's fuel issues is as simple as it gets: just abolish all subsidies, privatize the government refineries, deregulate the sector, stop subsidizing Dollars for a few and allow the Naira to float, and be done with it. I guarantee that all fuel shortages will completely vanish within 3 months of such policies being passed, and the free market price for fuel will actually be lower than the current black market rate.
Those who say that such policies can't work, because Nigeria is somehow exempt from the laws of economics, have to explain what is so special about Nigeria that sets it apart from the rest of West Africa. Apologists for the fuel subsidy must also explain how the current setup actually benefits most Nigerians who must queue for hours and days to load jerry cans with petrol at the "official" price - if it is available at all. The only parties that will really stand to lose out from a deregulated policy are those who are currently profiting from oil bunkering, fuel smuggling, fraudulent invoicing and round-tripping - as well as Aliko Dangote, who is currently enjoying all sorts of outrageous government subsidies to build the refinery the ignorant masses are cheering him for, as if he were engaging in charity. God bless you. |

NextGovernor: Where it's even worst is, from the article, it is a PPA project. 70% owned by invisible private investor (which might be the same Oshiomole) and 30% Edo state owned. There plan is after his tenure and if he successfully install his puppet (Obaseki), the state government under Obaseki will sell off the 30% shares of the state government to the invisible private investors. #APCSCAM

yaki84: why r these guys telling nigerians outright lies? the problem of the current fuel scarcity has nothing to do with cabal or whateva, it is simply govt monetary policies that got wrong. nnpc had 70percent quota allocated to bring in products while the remaining 30 was for the major, independent marketers. now what happened, nnpc access forex at the govt official price of 199naira per dollar, meanwhile the others couldnt access at that rate, n u cant buy dollars at 330 to 400 naira n bring in products that nobody will buy when nnpc is almost flooding the market with cheap products. the best they did was to suspend importation n buy from nnpc. so whether they reintroduce subsidy or not, if these guys cant access the official price of dolls to bring in product it will still remain d same. cos u wont expect them to buy dollars at 330 instead of 199 naira, bring in products n sell at 86.5naira. that is d fastest way of going bankrupt. best response so far, those independent marketers abi major marketers are just buying from NNPC so they sell at 140 creating a win win situation for themselves and the NNPC thieves. |
