Phones / How To Turn Off Tip Notifications On The Ipad by OwillyOscar(m): 11:37pm On Nov 26, 2014
Push notifications to me is one interesting addition to the iOS 8 update, it display pop-up messages from your apps, even when you don't have them open. Push notices help apps alert you to incoming messages and important announcements and also gives new users tips on how to get the most out of their iPad.

But the negative part of is; It interrupt your work, cause alert noises to play, even while your iPad is locked. Apps using Push can also drain your battery. If you don't want to be overloaded by notifications that you don't need, you can turn it off for individual apps or disable them across all programs temporarily with Do Not Disturb mode.

Blocking an App's Notifications

==> Open the Settings app and tap "Notification Center."

Blocking an App's Notifications

==> Scroll down and pick the app from which you want to block notices.

Blocking an App's Notifications

==> Change the Alert Style to "None."

Blocking an App's Notifications

==> Switch off the "Badge App Icon" and "Sounds" toggles, if present. Not all apps use these features.

Disabling All Push Notifications

==> Open the Settings app and press "Do Not Disturb."

Disabling All Push Notifications

==> Switch "Manual" on to block all alerts from going off while your iPad is locked. You can also toggle Manual mode by swiping up from the bottom of your device and tapping the Moon icon.

Disabling All Push Notifications

==> Press the "Scheduled" button and tap the time that appears to pick quiet hours.

Disabling All Push Notifications

==> Pick a start time using the scrolling clock wheel. Tap the "To" button and pick an end time. Press the "Home" button to leave the settings menu. Do Not Disturb will automatically activate between the set hours every day.

Note: Your mail account may also use Push to sync messages, even with alerts turned off. To disable Push and save battery power, open the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" tab in Settings, tap "Fetch New Data" and turn off the "Push" toggle.

Phones / The 26 Best Uses For The Ipad by OwillyOscar(m): 1:55pm On Nov 26, 2014
Are you wondering what to do with the iPad? Well apart from its ability to stream movies to its ability to play great games to the thousands of apps available in the Apple App Store, how helpful it can also be to your business as well. You may be surprised about how many great uses there are for the iPad, but I will be discussing both on its home and office use.

The Best iPad Uses:

1. Manage social media. The 10-hour battery stamina of the iPad means that you can leverage it for your social media interactions without constantly worrying about it running out. Most business companies are now aware of the importance of engaging their customers on an individual level via sites such as Facebook and Twitter. And while enterprises have the budget to pay dedicated specialists to perform these tasks, the responsibility in SMBs usually falls on the shoulders of employees in the sales and technical departments. On this front, the iPad makes an excellent platform, with dedicated clients for just about every social network out there.

2. Surf on the Couch. Have you ever been watching TV and wondered where you'd seen your favorite actor before? Having Wikipedia, IMDB and the rest of the web at your fingertips from the comfort of your couch can be a wonderful thing.

3. Video Camera. Though the original iPad didn't have a camera, and the iPad 2's back-facing camera wasn't the highest quality, the camera on the iPad 3 is very good. And not only can you take video with it, there are a number of different apps that will let you edit video, including a version of iMovie for the iPad.

4. Use as an external monitor. There are a number of apps that you can get for your iPad that will transform it into a wireless monitor to extend your display area. There are a few solutions available, apps like DisplayLink app, which in tandem with the company's free iPad client software, allows you to use the iPad as an 1024x768 monitor for Windows 7 laptop with full Aero support.

5. Mobile Gaming.
The iPad you know very well was already a great gaming machine, with the ability to use the gyroscope and accelerometer to take portable gaming to a whole new wheel. The iPad 2 added to this with the ability to play augmented reality games, which makes gaming a great use for the iPad. And with the iPad 3's Retina Display, the graphics compete with console games.

6. eReader. The iPad with its larger display is very well suited for catching up on some reading when traveling or you’re at home. Aside from the bunch of dedicated ebook applications such as iBooks, Kindle and Barnes for the iPad, there is also a large number of RSS news readers that can help you keep apace of developments in your industry. iPad clients of both Read It Later and Instrapaper are available for you to catch up on Web pages flagged for reading from your desktop.

7. Connect the iPad to Your TV. The iPad has a lot of great entertainment value, including the ability to stream HD video and play high-quality games. But what about watching those cool videos on the big screen? There a several methods to hook your iPad up to your HDTV, including using AirPlay to wirelessly connect the iPad to Apple TV.

8. Give presentation. With the VGA Adapter and supporting software, business users can make use of the much more portable iPad for this task. A number of software supports the VGA Adapter, such as the free Presentation App, or Apple's own Keynote. Getting the presentation onto the iPad will probably require the requisite files to be synced in advance, though some of the presentation software supports alternative means of moving the files over. And unless you create the presentation on the iPad, you will probably want to first check that the transferred files display as expected.

As an added bonus, Apple has also promised a future update that will allow Keynote presentations to be streamed via AirPlay to an Apple TV. While not terribly useful for conference rooms where projectors are mainly VGA-based, the capability offers compelling value in certain scenarios – such as being able to conduct a presentation using a large-screen plasma or LCD with your iPad.

9. Computer Replacement. Apart from its ability to use Facebook, read Email and browse the web, the iPad can replace the laptop for many people. Apps like Apple's Numbers and Pages and the ability to hook up a keyboard via Bluetooth makes it a great computer. And now that you can set up an iPad without a PC and use iCloud to make a back up, the iPad can actually replace the home computer.

10. Recipe Book. Size and portability of the iPad makes it great for any room in the house, including your kitchen as well. There are great cooking apps, such as recipes from Whole Foods Market.

11. Use as a sales Brochure.
Rather than lug along a stack of heavy sales brochures or other printed documents, why not just load everything onto an iPad? All it takes is some preparation to convert the required promotional materials as image files for viewing under the default Photos application. File them appropriately in separate folders, and you now have absolute short comprehensive account of your company's products or services in the palm of your hands.

12. Video Conferencing. Hey! Did you know that FaceTime works on the iPad? In fact, it's actually better on an iPad because you have a bigger display. FaceTime works on the iPad by using your email address as a phone number, allowing anyone else with an iPhone or iPad to 'call' you.

13. Photo Album. You like taking your photos with you? With the iPad, you can easily store thousands of photographs on the lowest end iPad, and even display them as a slideshow.

14. Organize your schedule. There are many types of calendaring software that allow you to manage your work and personal schedule for the iPad. Schedules planned on Microsoft Outlook can be synchronized wirelessly to your iPad, or when synchronizing via iTunes – many of the apps also support syncing to cloud-based calendaring services such as Google Calendar.

15. Be a Musician. If you’re a musician, then you should be aware of thelpful apps that range from a digital piano to a guitar effects processor. You can even use the iPad to learn an instrument using nifty gadgets like ION's Piano Studio.

16. Increase productivity. Paul uses different kinds of software to maintain his productivity, including Microsoft OneNote to maintain a list of ideas for new blogs and articles, as well as a plain text application for general note taking and to maintain his to do list. He’s discovered that he can read and edit his OneNote Notebooks using MobileNoter on the iPad, while Simplenote allows him to do the same for the notes on his desktop. Because everything is automatically synced to the cloud, he doesn’t even have to remember to perform a manual synchronization, or leave his laptop on.

Your personal workflow obviously differs, and it will probably take some time to figure out the right combination of software that will contribute to your productivity. His point though, is the role the iPad can play in that regard.

Phones / My Iphone Won't Charge. What Do I Do? by OwillyOscar(m): 1:47pm On Nov 23, 2014
If you're having issues charging your iPhone, it may be that your device is calling for a new battery. There are lots of things that could be interfering with your iPhone's ability to charge. But before you head out to purchase a new iPhone battery, try these tips.

1. Restart iPhone

Restarting your iPhone can be of great help. It won't solve the more serious problems, but if your phone won't charge, give it a restart and try plugging it in again. Also see: 21 Tips to Extend iPhone Battery Life

2. Clean the Inside of the Lightning Port

A lot of dirt, sand, lint, and other debris can get jammed up in that Lightning port, and it will prevent the contacts on the Lightning connector from hitting their marks inside the port.

If your iPhone suddenly stopped charging, make sure you clean all of the junk out of the port using a small tool. Try using the SIM card remover that came with your device. Be careful when using the tool so you don't damage the port and permanently screw up the connection to the charger.

Using the SIM card remover tool, slowly stuck the pin side of the Lightning port, all the way to the bottom, and slowly went around the oval shape of the port a couple of times. Pull the pin out, you will see some dirt. Once you loosen some of the dirt stuck in there, you now free to blow into the port to dislodge it. Be careful so you don't spit in there.

3. Check USB Cable

There is a possibility that there's a problem with the USB cable you're using to connect the iPhone to your power adapter. To be sure if your USB cable is not the problem, test it with another iPhone and see if it works. If you find that it is your USB cable that's broken, buy a new one but avoid buying cheap one.

4. Use iPhone Recovery Mode

Sometimes problems occurring with your iPhone require more extensive steps to solve them. One of those measures is Recovery Mode. Recovery Mode is like a restart, but can help solve more simple problems. When you use Recovery Mode, your phone will expect to have its data restored from a backup or probably returned to factory settings.

5. Avoid Charging With the Keyboard

Before complaining about your iPhone not charging, make sure you're charging it in the right place. Because iPhone has high power demands, it needs to be charged using high-speed USB ports. The USB ports that are included on some keyboards don't provide enough power to recharge the iPhone.

6. Check Your Wall Charger

Are you charging your iPhone using a wall charger power adapter? Well, the problem could be the adapter that's preventing your device from charging. Just as it is with the USB cable, the only way to check this is by getting another power adapter and trying to charge your phone with it, or you could also try charging via a computer instead.

7. Check USB Port

If you are sure that you’re using the right kind of USB port, then it may be the USB port itself that's broken. Try plugging your iPhone into another USB port on your computer. If it works then the USB ports on your computer may be broken.

Phones / What To Do When Your Iphone Won't Turn On by OwillyOscar(m): 3:21pm On Nov 22, 2014
You sometimes find yourself in a situation where your iPhone just won’t turn on. Pressing the power button causes literally nothing to happen; the iPhone just displays a black screen. You may think your iPhone is broken and that you're going to need to buy a new one. But there are a lot of things you can try to fix your iPhone before you decide it's completely dead. Try these tips to bring it back to its normal shape.

1. Turn It On/Restart It

If you iPhone won't turn on, check to make sure that it's not off. Hold down the Hold button at the top right corner on the edge of the phone for some few seconds. If the phone is off, it should turn on.

2. Charge the iPhone for a While

Try connecting your iPhone to a USB charger and connect it to a wall outlet for some few minutes, or better still, connect it through USB to your computer for at least 20 minutes , after doing that, try turning your iPhone ON as usual while your device is still connected to a reliable power source.

If your device battery is completely drained and very low then sometimes after maybe 10-20 minutes of being charged you will be able to press the power button and then see a screen display with an empty battery and icons showing a cable connected to a power source:

If you see that screen after the iPhone has been charging for a while, that means the device needs to charge longer before it will be usable again because the battery was completely dead. If you suspect your phone ran out of battery but this technique doesn't work, then there’s a possibility that your charger or cable is faulty. Try using another charger or cable and see it will charge.

3. Proximity Sensor Problem

Admit it! Your iPhone's screen turns on and off when you hold it close to your face to make a call due to the proximity sensor. This malfunction can cause the screen to be turned off even when the phone is on and not close to your face.

If this is the case, it can be solved through software, rather than repairing or replacing the phone. Just hold down the Home and Hold buttons as outlined above to restart the phone. When it restarts, the screen should be working. If it is do the following:
==> Tap the Settings app

==> Tap General

==> Tap Reset

==> Tap Reset All Settings. This erases all your preferences and settings on the iPhone, but won't delete your data.

==> Confirm the reset. Your proximity sensor problem should be resolved by now.

4. DFU Mode

In some situations, the issue might not be so much that your device won't work as that it won't boot very well. This often takes the form of the phone trying to start, getting to the silver Apple logo, and then restarting itself. This is common after jailbreaking.

If this is the problem you're facing, then try putting your phone into DFU mode and resetting it.

5. Force Reboot

Force reboot can be of great help! Hold down your device Power and Home button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.

Hard reboot works if iOS has crashed or is frozen, which can sometimes manifest as an unresponsive iPhone with a black screen that appears dead because it isn’t responsive to anything. This is the easiest to determine and to resolve since it doesn’t even require waiting for the iPhone to charge before you can do it, and you’ll know nearly instantly if it works.

Business / How To Write Great Twitter Headlines by OwillyOscar(m): 11:39pm On Nov 17, 2014
If your content catches attention on Twitter and spreads, suddenly you’re getting meaningful traffic from people who may have never visited your site before. Don’t forget to share other people’s quality content on Twitter. This helps you build up a Twitter audience that values your editorial judgment, which in turns helps you when you have something of your own to share.

What you share on Twitter is not just about the real value of the content. It’s also about whether the content gets viewed. The difference is in the headline. I’m sure you’ve heard this before. On average, 5 out of 10 people will read a headline, but only 3 out of 10 will go on to read the content.

This is in a typical headline environment, such as a newspaper, magazine, or web page.

In an email inbox, the percentages are likely worse. The battle for attention intensifies due to the nature of the environment.

Thinking about the Twitter stream?

Believe me; people now scan more ruthlessly than ever before, seriously looking for interesting tidbits. Your content link is competing with conversations and tantalizing revelations. Time to raise your headline. Let us take some review of the foundational elements of writing solid headline.

The Successful Return of the Short Headline
The reason why most people prefer short headline is not just due to the 140-character limit that Twitter imposes, but also because in order for your headline to spread, people need room to retweet it and the extra space is needed for the hat tip.

History provides us with some strong encouragement in the short headline department.
Studies done from the direct mail industry, show that about 60% of the most effective headlines are eight words or less. Leaving ample indication those longer headlines also works.

Twitter brings us back full-circle at a time when content is the new advertising. But it’s now clear that a well-written short headline has power, especially when in a level-playing-field environment where everyone has the same state of restriction.

Write for Retweets

The value in headline rewriting comes when tweeting other people’s content. Many people write crappy headlines, even when the content is good. Doing editorial work help you build a loyal twitter following, because you’re finding content that might otherwise be lost in the noise, and then rewriting the headline to better entice people to pay attention.

Simply apply the 4 U approache after reading the content and before you tweet. In no time, this will become second nature to you, and your reputation on Twitter will thrive while you send traffic to people who need to learn what you know.

See Valuable Content Rules

From observation, people will retweet based on the headline alone, before even clicking through to the content. Bear in mind that your followers may retweet based on a headline alone, but only because they trust you.

Of course quality content is still the essential ingredient, but make sure people actually appreciate the content you share. Becoming a better headline writer will make that happen for you.
Learn How to Write Great Twitter Headlines
Learning how to write great headlines can sometimes be the most difficult part of your success as a content marketer. Make sure you read and absorb its critical lessons.

Spending lots of time working on your headlines is a critical step in getting better at this particular skill. So when you write your next article, make sure you leave plenty of time for writing and experimenting with headlines.

Webmasters / How To Write Magnetic Headlines by OwillyOscar(m): 1:34am On Nov 12, 2014
Your headline is a promise to readers. Its job is to clearly explains the benefit you’ll deliver to your reader in exchange for their precious time. Tending to be made before being fulfilled. Turn it around the other way and you have the benefit of expressly fulfilling the compelling promise you made with the headline, which ultimately helps to keep your content crisp and well-structured. A poorly-crafted headline allows good deeds to go unnoticed.

Great headlines are constructed in certain time and in ways that can be adapted into different contexts and re-used over again.

Do Keywords in Post Titles Really Matter?
You know it’s a big battle when it comes to the blogging community. Search engine optimization camp says keywords are the most important aspect of a blog post title. How will you want to rank high in the search results and get clicks to your website/blogs if the right keywords are missing from your title? You’ve got the purist “write for humans” camp, who collectively scoff at the notion of keyword research for headline writing. Doing keyword research can be hard at times especially if you're a newbie.

There's no way to know the exact words that a large group of people would use when thinking about a certain topic without search engine. If you’re writing any type of headline, you should be doing search engine keyword research. Because any great headline should speak in the language of the audience.

Google and other search engines want to reflect what’s important to people. That’s why they use links and anchor text as one of the primary determinations of relevancy.

When you speak the language of the audience, you attract more readers and that's where keywords matters. More relevant search traffic to you. Now let’s look at one of the most effective headline types in the world — the “how to” .

Computers / Should You Upgrade To The Ipad Air 2? by OwillyOscar(m): 2:42am On Nov 10, 2014
Upgrade if you have an iPad Air...?

The only reason to contemplate a jump from the Air to the Air 2 is if you really want to unlock your iPad with your thumb. And while it sounds crazy, it might be worth it to those who have Touch ID on their phone and

are tired of constantly trying to unlock the iPad using a non-existent Touch ID sensor. While the iPad Air 2 is faster, the speed increase and inclusion of Touch ID probably isn't worth $150.

No need to Upgrade.

Upgrade if you have an iPad Mini...?

The iPad Mini is now Apple's entry-level iPad. The iPad Mini may have better cameras, 4G support and a nicer form factor, but on the inside, it is still an iPad 2, powered by the same iPad 2 processor. It's a nice tablet, but the jump to the new iPad Air 2 is a huge one, and one that any iPad Mini owner should think deeply about.

If price is a concern, the iPad Mini 2 is $200 cheaper than the iPad Air 2 and is still a very nice upgrade from the iPad Mini. Just because they are keeping it in production doesn't mean it isn't long in the tooth. But don't let Apple fool you.

Upgrade is Highly Recommended.

Upgrade if you have an iPad 2...?

The iPad Air 2 is over 8 times faster and more efficient than the iPad 2, Talking about graphics? The iPad Air 2 blows it off the charts. The iPad 2 doesn't support 4G speeds, doesn't have Touch ID, has horrible front-facing and back-facing cameras, doesn't have the Retina Display. The iPad 2 is a little bit clunky when using the new iOS 8 operating system. Withou doubt, it's a sign that Apple is going to cut off support in the future sooner than you think.

Upgrade is Highly Recommended.

Upgrade if you have an iPad 3...?

The iPad 3 was the most short-lived iPad, including the original iPad. Released in Spring of 2012, it still supports most of the latest-and-greatest features, including Siri, leaving AirDrop as the only major feature not supported on the iPad 3.

One reason why the iPad 3 received such a quick upgrade was Apple's desire to move to a Fall release schedule, positioning the iPad as a great Christmas gift. This was essentially the same CPU powering the iPad 2 with a more powerful graphics processor included to help power the Retina Display screen.

Have you noticed? the iPad 3 is starting to show its age just like the iPad 2. The upgraded graphics processor makes it more able to tackle the latest games, but it is still a good time to upgrade.

Upgrade is Recommended.

Computers / Ipad Air 2 Review by OwillyOscar(m): 12:55am On Nov 06, 2014
The iPad Air 2 isn't about being pretty, even though it has a beautiful display. It's not about being thin, even though it went from 7.5 millimeters to 6.1 millimeters. The iPad Air 2 signifies a huge boost in performance and is better than its predecessors in just about every category.

It races past the competition, with the new A8X processor significantly faster than competing Android tablets. With performance closing in on a laptop, cameras as good as a smartphone and the incredible new features of iOS 8, it's a great time to jump on the iPad bandwagon. The new iPad Air 2 is about being powerful.

Key New Features:

Touch ID fingerprint sensor
8 MP back-facing iSight camera
64-bit Tri-Core 1.5 Ghz A8X chip
2 GB of RAM
802.11ac Wi-Fi

See iPad Air 2 Details

The newest iPad on the block is powered by a A8X system-on-a-chip (SoC). The new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are powered by an A8 chip, and when Apple adds an X onto the end of a chip name, it is usually more than just a slight boost in speed. The A8X chip takes the 1.4 Ghz Dual-Core A8 and turns it into a 1.5 Ghz Tri-Core A8X.

Computers / How To Set Up Mac Network Locations by OwillyOscar(m): 11:58pm On Nov 03, 2014
If you only use your Mac in one location, such as at home, then this automatic connection may be all you'll need. But if use your Mac in different locations, such as taking a MacBook to work, you must change the network connection settings each time you change locations. This tip assumes you have already been changing the network connection settings manually, and that you have the necessary network configuration information for each location.

Are you tired of changing the network settings manually each time you change locations? You can use the Mac's Network Location service to create multiple "locations." Each location has individual settings to match a specific network port's configuration. You can have one location for your home, to connect to your wired Ethernet network; one location for your office, which also uses wired Ethernet, but with different DNS (domain name server) settings; and one location for the wireless connection at your favorite coffee house.

Computers / Firefox Closes Or Quits Unexpectedly. After A Crash? This Article Will Help You by OwillyOscar(m): 1:24am On Oct 30, 2014
You will agree with me that there are Add-ons that your computer may install without requesting for your permission (due to your system settings though). To fix this problem, follow this guide:

==> Go to your Mozilla Firefox Homepage
==> Click on Open Menu
==> Click Add-ons manager
==> Click on Extension. Here you will see list of programs your Mozilla install without requesting your permission ( examples: Alexa Toolbar, Avast Online security, adblocker). Take your time carefully to look for those programs that are less important to you and click Remove.
==> Your Firefox will prompt you to Restart
==> Click Restart Now.

Your Mozilla should restart immediately. There you go! You are now half way done. Follow the next steps:

==> Go to your Windows Menu
==> Click Computer
==> Click Uninstall or Change programs
==> Search program and features.
==> Uninstall the programs that you don’t need or probably installed without your permission.
==> Search for Java and remove the ones that are less important (of no use) to you.
==> Restart your computer.

Note: If Firefox is open but won't respond to any of your actions, then this is a hang, not a crash:

When Firefox hangs, it stops responding to your clicks and keystrokes and doesn't seem to be doing anything. Also, a "(Not Responding)" label is displayed in the title bar and the mouse becomes a spinning wait cursor when it's over the Firefox window. This article gives you solutions to Firefox hangs depending on when they happen.

In most cases, crashing or browser not responding may be due to poor or bad network. In the case of bad network, just disconnect Wi-Fi or Modem and reconnect again.

This works well for me and I am sure it will definitely work for you as well. Anyway, give it a try and let me know what you think. http://www.trendymediablog.com/2014/10/mozilla-firefox-crashes-how-to-fix-it.html
Computers / View Hidden Folders On Your Mac Using Terminal by OwillyOscar(m): 9:57pm On Oct 28, 2014
Your Mac has a few hidden folders and files that are not visible to you . Apple hides these files and folders to stop you from changing or deleting important data that your Mac needs. But you will agree with me that there are times when you may need to view these out-of-the-way corners of your Mac's file system. Apple includes a way that you can access these hidden features in OS X, in the form of an application called Terminal. All it takes to get your Mac to spill its hidden features is a little typing in Terminal.

You can watch an ASCII version of the full Star Wars Episode IV movie right in the Command Prompt window!
All you have to do is to open Command Prompt and execute telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl. The movie will start immediately. This isn't a terribly productive use of the Command Prompt, nor is it really a trick of the Command Prompt or any command.
Note: The telnet command is not enabled by Windows Vista or default in Windows 7 but can be turned on by enabling Telnet Client from Windows Features in the Programs and Features applet in Control Panel.

2. Use Ctrl-C to Abort a Command

Just about any command can be stopped in its tracks with the abort command: Ctrl-C.
If you haven't actually executed a command, you can just backspace and erase what you've typed, but if you've already executed it then you can do a Ctrl-C to stop it.
Warning: Ctrl-C can't undo things that aren't undoable, like a partially complete format command. For things like the dir command that seem to go on forever or questions you're asked at the prompt that you don't know the answer to, the abort command is an excellent Command Prompt trick to know. Computers / How Do I Get My Computer Fixed? by OwillyOscar(m): 2:12am On Oct 17, 2014
When thinking about how to get your computer fixed, time and money are also big concerns. Knowing how much the repair might cost, if the problem is so big that a new one is a better idea. It can be a scary thought, trusting your data with people you don't know.

If you're sure that you've taken precautions to protect yourself or hopefully you're comfortable with the idea of trusting someone with your computer, here are the three main options you have to get your computer fixed:

1. Hire a Computer Repair Service

All cities in the world, have more multiple options when it comes to computer repair services. Many choices doesn't make choosing easier.
There's actually a number of things to consider.
Online computer repair as an option. When you hire an online computer repair service, The common way to start is with a phone call and eventually allow the service to connect to your computer remotely so they can fix the issue.

Since remote access is such a huge part of this type of computer fix-it service, it's usually only a good idea if the computer issue you're having isn't impacting your ability to connect to the Internet.

2. Ask a Friend to Fix it for You

The means of getting a smart friend to fix your computer problem are clear: it's often completely free and also usually the fastest way to get back up and running.

If you're lucky enough to have a friend that live close by, you're in great luck. If not, and the problem isn't too serious, he or she might be able to fix it remotely.
While it's still fine to get help from a friend, if your computer is still under warranty, be sure to let your friend know so that he/she don't do anything that might void that warranty. If your friend gets to that point in their troubleshooting, Option 3 is a better way to go.

Computers / How To Fix A Computer That Turns On But Displays Nothing by OwillyOscar(m): 9:59pm On Oct 16, 2014
The most common way that a computer "won't turn on" is when the PC actually does power on but doesn't display anything on the monitor. You see lights on the computer case, but nothing shows on your screen.

How To Fix It

1. Monitor Is Defective/Loose VGA Cable Connection. Try to swap monitors with another computer to check if the monitor is defective or not. You can also try to reinsert the VGA cable to the VGA port of your video card to see if the connection is loose or maybe the VGA cable of you monitor is defective.

2.Test your monitor to make sure it is working properly before you begin troubleshooting.

3. Make sure your computer has completely reset - make sure that it's coming on from a completely powered-off state.

4. Troubleshoot the cause of the beep code if you're lucky enough to get one. A beep code will give you idea of where to look for the cause of your computer turning off.

Return here and continue with the steps below if you don't resolve the problem by troubleshooting to the specific beep code.
5. Verify that your pc power supply voltage switch is set correctly. There's a possibility that your PC wouldn't power on at all if this switch is wrong but an incorrect power supply voltage might also prevent your computer from starting properly in this way too.

6. Clear the BIOS memory on your motherboard. It will return the BIOS settings to their factory default levels. But if clearing the BIOS does fix your problem, make sure any changes you make in BIOS are completed one at a time so if the problem returns, you'll know which change caused your issue.

7. Reseat everything inside your PC. Reseating will reestablish the various connections inside your pc.
Reseating the following and then see if your computer begins to display something on screen:

Reseat all internal data and power cables
Reseat the memory modules
Reseat any expansion cards

Above all, you can reseat the CPU only if you suspect that it might have come loose or might not have been installed properly.

Phones / How To Unlock Your Smartphone by OwillyOscar(m): 3:15am On Oct 11, 2014
Unlocking Through Your Carrier
==> Contact your carrier's customer service line. If you meet your carrier's requirements, you might be able to unlock your phone even for free.

==> Inquire about unlocking your phone. Requirements for unlocking vary from carrier to carrier, but you will need to have been with them for a set amount of time, and the phone will need to have been completely paid off.

You may be charged an early termination fee if you haven't paid off the phone's full cost yet.

==> You should wait to receive the code. You will receive your unlock code over the phone, or emailed to you.

==> Insert the new SIM card in your phone. You will need to have the SIM card from your new carrier inserted in order to receive the prompt to enter your code.

The location of the SIM card slot varies, but it is usually in a tray along the side of the phone or behind the battery. You need a small paperclip to eject the tray.

==> Enter your unlock code. When you power your phone on with the new SIM card, you will be prompted for your unlock code.

Make sure that you are within the coverage area of your new carrier service when unlocking the device.

Note: Make sure to enter the code correctly, as entering the incorrect code too many times may lock you out of your phone.

You'll also find unlocked phones for sale on Amazon.

Hope it worked for you? http://trendymediablog.com/2014/10/how-to-unlock-your-smartphone/

Investment / Adobe Partnership Could Be A Game Changer For Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 by OwillyOscar(m): 12:18pm On Oct 08, 2014
Microsoft's problem with mobile has largely been a software issue. It's not enough to make powerful tablets or phones if the software isn't there to support. But Adobe might be able to help. Though the two have worked closely together in the past, it wasn't until Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella took the stage with Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen during Monday's keynote presentation at Adobe's Max conference, that it was clear the two companies have a closer partnership than ever, which may signal big changes for Microsoft's Surface platform.

That the two would want to work together closely is not a surprise. Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 has much more advanced software capabilities than iPads an other tablets — ideal for resource hungry applications like Photoshop and Illustrator.

On the software side, Adobe rolled out a new version of Illustrator optimized for the Surface Pro3. "This touch workspace lets designers create on the go what they could once only accomplish sitting at their studio workbench before," wrote Panos Panay, Microsoft's corporate vice president. "This new workspace exposes the core tools and controls for drawing and editing, making it super simple to start creating with pen and touch."

Adobe also previewed a new touch workspace in Photoshop on the Surface Pro 3, nicknamed "Playground." Playground has all the power of Photoshop on the desktop, but a completely redesigned, touch-enabled, classic user interface.

One Playground feature, the Layer Inspector, allows users to navigate between layers by swiping across them on their screen. The layers can also be picked up and rearranged exclusively with touch gestures.

Phones / You Can Now Use Data And Voice On A Verizon Iphone by OwillyOscar(m): 10:26am On Oct 08, 2014
Thanks to the introduction of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, and some timely upgrades to Verizon's network in the form of its new "Advanced Calling" feature, all of that was changed. Verizon's major weakness for iPhone users is gone. You can now talk and use the Internet at the same time on an iPhone using Verizon.

Here's what you need to know to enable this feature:

You must have the correct iPhone model. Only the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus support this feature. Anything earlier and you're out of luck. That's a reason to upgrade on its own, right?
Change one simple setting. Once you've got the right phone model up and running on the Verizon network, simply follow these steps:

Tap the Settings app on your iPhone's home screen
Tap Cellular
Tap Enable LTE
Tap Voice & Data

Webmasters / How To Setup Custom Domain On Blogger With Godaddy by OwillyOscar(m): 4:25pm On Oct 02, 2014
purchase a domain from Godaddy.com,
they assign an IP address for the domain.
But, you need to change those records to
point to your Blogger blog. Below is how I
change the A and CNAME records of my
Godaddy account.
Step 1: Go to the Settings Tab of your blog
in the Blogger UI and click on the "Add a
custom domain" link.
Step 2: Enter the URL you would like to use
for your blog and press Save. I'm using one
of my blog as an example
"www.Oscargist.com" but the URL doesn't
need to start with www such as
"trendymediablog.com" where you are
reading this article.
Step 3: You will get an error (It's normal).
It's expected as you have not configured
GoDaddy with the DNS settings required.
Click on the "DNS settings file" link and
save the file. Don't close this window yet,
you'll need it later.
Step 4: Open a new window, go to your
GoDaddy account, go to the Domain Control
Panel and click on your preferred domain
name.
Step 5: Click on the "DNS Zone File" tab.
