What I do know is that it is easier to poison someone than to murder women and children in cold blood using machetes. So I have no reason to doubt this message. I will simply apply caution. |

Why do the so called experts need a law preventing Universal Banking before they can excel in the own area of expertise? Was their any law preventing insurance companies and mortgage banks operating while these Universal Banks existed? There is simply no benefit for this. This new policy is more ideologically driven than it has to do with economics. Sanusi is simply an Islamic Scholar scared of Mega Banks and Success. This is what this is all about. Who says specialist financial institutions can't exist alongside Universal Banks? |

Folks a break up must not be violent, it does not mean war. Those who want break up can simply take there case to the UN and make them see reasons. and they will be protected. THE WORLD IS TIRED OF THE EXPERIMENT CALLED NIGERIA. THIS COUNTRY IS JUST ONE HUGE FAILED LABORATORY. The Muslims in Southern Nigeria do not want Sharia and are not seeking to dominate others with their religion and neither are they being dominated. So we are happy to live with them. Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa, Adamawa can join the south if they so wish. the nigerian map supports break up along religious lines. break up does not mean violence. it just mean redifinition of borders and citizenship. |

Seun: The status quo has already exceded those figures of humanitarian catastrophe. People have been dying and are still to die. The latest Jos crisis is one in a never ending list of religious conflicts. We have to either enforce our constitution to be a secular state or divide. |

ndu_chucks: Those are no issue because those once are not seeking to impose their religion on others. Fashola the Governor of Lagos is a Muslim and yet you will not know. We have to either agree to be a secular state where your religion does not matter or we must come to the reality of sepration. |

believe it or not the man is making sence. Hillary Clinton has also hinted at such ideas we have refused to be one and yet refused to divide. the only way nigeria survives is if it is a secular state where no religion is recognised muslims said no they must practice sharia against the will of the rest of the country and its constitution. christains said no they wont accept sharia rule. those who want to continue sharia are trying to conquer jos, hence the massacre. now if this is the status quo what is the point of remaining one nation. we nigerians like to live in denial untill we are consumed. we have to repeal sharia law in states where they are being practiced, enforce the necessary sections of our constitution if we want to stay together or better still we simply follow the advice Gaddaffi and simply divide. 1 Like |

When you hear about Sanusi criticizing others for gettiing too rich you are simply reminded of Abdumuttalab who is angry that some are so rich (BTW that includes his father) before he decided to take it out on an American Plane |

I don't think there is any propaganda in this story There is no part of Nigeria where minority settlers are battling for political control apart from Jos. In the Neigbouring Bauchi non Hausas have no say let alone being influential part of Government. But in Jos you have had Hausas serving in Government. I personally believe this is what it is. A bungled attempt at Jihad in 2010 Nigeria. It has failed and will fail. The Hausa Muslims should wake up to the realities of the Digital age. |

edoyad: I think we can agree if its based on doing the right thing. Yes SE, SS, SW and Middle Belt will not in unism engage in attrocities as the almajiris do. But what we have always been fighting for is justice for all and creating an egaliterian Nigeria. Around an ideology that seeks to do good for the mass of our people no matter where you come from. I think that is a winning ideology that all educated folks can easily agree with. |

PapaBrowne: A new political order is emerging Even the western world is experiencing a Foreign policy shift towards Nigeria. the days of Hausa/Fulani Nigeria are oover. Northern Christains can realign with their fellow christains in the South. If PDP decides to zone power to the North and does not choose a Nothern Christain then they will also fail at the polls. |

trueword: This does not even require gutts. It just requires recognition of office. But what Jonathan seem to be doing is removing people based on their performance in office rather than percieved disloyalty. And most times all these disloyal guys seem to be failures, so there is no need making them political matyrs. It better to disgrace them based on performance. |

beaf suits are nobody's cultural attire, do some research on this and prove to me whose culture it is? suits are just official business class attire for serious people. Babaringa or Etibo or DanFulani or whatever etc. None of these attires single handedly represents Nigeria as a whole at any point in time and most times they alienate those whose region the President has not come from. It only serves as a symbol of reminder of our differences. The President of Nigeria should be a neutral fellow in a country of over 200 ethnic groups , 6 geopolitical zones and more than 3 religions. I just think anyone representing us abroad should appear in a unified attire. These things are simple symbolic gestures that may foster unity. |

Bali Berates Jos GOC By Olawale Olaleye in Lagos and Seriki Adinoyi in Jos, 03.14.2010 Former Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff in the General Ibrahim Babangida regime, General Domkat Bali, at the weekend berated the General Officer Command-ing (GOC), 3rd Armoured Division, Major-General Saleh Maina and other top military commanders and accused them of compromising the security of Plateau State by showing bias in their handling of the Jos crisis. Specifically, Bali pointed accusing fingers at Maina, who he said has taken sides in the crisis. He said his fear was that should the military be polarised along religious lines, it would be the end of Nigeria. Bali, a four-star general, gave this hint even as there were reports last night that security agents intercepted a truck suspected to be carrying arms in Riyom Local Government Area of the state. The vehicle with registration number, Bauchi XA 724 MSA, was however said to be conveying jerry cans of palm oil and many bags of cement to Kano for sale. He described the military commanders as being part of the problem in Jos and accused Maina of habitually not taking calls, irrespective of who is calling. “The GOC, Maina or – whatever his name is – I did call him many times, but he won’t pick my phone. So, one day I met him while he was going to the Governor’s office, and I stopped him and asked why he has refused to pick my calls after calling many times? The idiot only told me he was overwhelmed by the happening. You see, I am a General. I called to show interest in what was happening, because I am here in Jos,” Bali fumed. “After that time, I tried calling him again but he still refused to pick my calls. The reason I called was that there were fake soldiers from Niger, Chad and so on. They were flashed on the television screen and I saw some of them wearing canvas, slippers and so on. The people I saw were not boys that could not be stopped and their weapons collected from them. But with what I saw on the screen, they (the fake soldiers) and the Army were virtually operating together, and the army did not arrest or stop them [as far as I know anyway]. “So, I believe, and a lot of people believe so too, that the GOC is playing games with us, and that they are part of the problems.” Bali said as a soldier, he is not as patient as the state Governor, Jonah Jang because “if I were Jang, I would have made more inflammatory statements. I am talking about something very serious. This is not just about Plateau, but the whole of Nigeria. You see, the Chief of Army Staff is an Hausa man; the GOC is an Hausa man; they dictate who should come here and who is to serve in what position. “My feeling is that they should remove Maina, because he has shown bias for Islam and it is a dangerous thing not just for Plateau, but for the whole country. The moment this country is broken along religion line, there may be no Nigeria any more. Especially as it regards the military, because the ultimate force bringing Nigeria together is the military,” he said. Bali was optimistic that the Jos situation is not hopeless said Jos has always been peaceful. “When I schooled in Kuru here, it was the most peaceful time that Plateau was. We then were celebrating Salah as though we were Muslims children, and they were celebrating Christmas with us as though they were Christians. The conflict began when the interest to dominate grew. And of course it met with resistance; that was when the problem started. The issue is why must it be the Hausas that want to dominate Jos? Why not the Yorubas or the Ibos? That’s the problem. “I must tell you here that Jos-North was never captured by the Fulanis or the Bauchi people. They were just lumped with them. That was the problem of the indirect rule system, in which some groups were just lumped with the Hausas by the British for convenience of administration. It was for administrative convenience that Jos was lumped with the then Bauchi province.” On the intercepted truck, the military men stationed in Riyom were said to have received a call alerting them of “a truck carrying a large number of passengers” before it arrived the checkpoint. The truck carrying 44 men and three women, allegedly on a journey to Kano, was brought to the state police headquarter where the entire luggage was off loaded to determine if it was really carrying any weapon. Though a few kitchen knives, two saws, two hammers, two axes were found in the vehicle, it was not yet substantiated if they were really weapons to carry out an attack or mere tools to carry out their jobs. One of the women, Mrs. Ijeoma Stanley, who spoke on behalf of the other women disclosed to THISDAY that they are traders and that they were on their way to Kano from Port Harcourt to sell and in turn, buy cloths back to Port Harcourt. She said the other 44 men joined the truck from Okigwe. Driver of the truck, Mallam Lamido, who confirmed that the men actually joined his truck from Okigwe, said he did not have any cause to suspect them since they were not with any form of weapon. The suspects are being currently interrogated by the police to determine why they had to travel through Jos in such a large group at this time that the state is mindful of its security. http://nigeriamasterweb.com/paperfrmes.html |

I think Suits are the most diverse outfit in Nigeria. Lets do away with all this cultural wears we wear to Foreign Gatherings which only some Nigerians can identify with. Jonathan meets Obama By Olusola Balogun Sunday, March 14, 2010 Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section The Presidency of acting President Goodluck Jonathan seems to be getting more international acceptance and support as American President, Barrack Obama, is reported to have invited the Nigerian leader to an international summit scheduled for next month. Although the agenda of the said summit is still very sketchy, it was gathered that Obama personally called up the former Bayelsa governor asking him to attend the conference. According to a source at the Presidency who confirmed the development, “it is true that the acting President will be going to the US in April and he will be attending a summit. They called it a nuclear summit. He was personally and specially invited by Obama to attend the meeting.” He disclosed that Jonathan is already making arrangements to attend the meeting, hinting that the acting President might use the opportunity to further press for the issue of delisting Nigeria from the list of terror nations that it was included soon after Farouk Abdulmutallab’s attempted suicide bombing on American soil. Political analysts view the development as a major boost for the Jonathan administration that is facing some acceptability challenges from some quarters in the country. It is also seem as a clear departure from the era of ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua who seldomly attend international summits and is in the habit of sending representatives to such meetings even before he took ill in November 2009. http://nigeriamasterweb.com/paperfrmes.html |

Nigeria has been invited to the Nuclear Summit in Washington DC. I think the President of a Secular Nigeria should be at least representing us on a world Stage in Suits sometimes. I will like to see Jonathan appear businesslike, tell us how u will like to see Jonathan appear. When the nuclear security talks were formally announced by Obama during the G-8 Summit in Italy in July, officials said 25 to 30 countries would be invited soon after the president returned from the economic confab. The invitation process seems to have taken a bit longer than anticipated and, like any coveted Washington party, the guest list has swelled. The full list, as released by the White House to POLITICO Thursday morning, is after the jump.

Does anyone know why we privatize oil wells in Nigeria but nationalize refineries? Should it not be the other way round? Danjuma recently confessed on how he made $500 million from his oil well and did not know what to do with it. In fact the symbol of real connections in Nigeria is the number of oil wells you control. Does anyone understand why this is the case? Why is the Finance Ministry, CBN, and petroleum ministry not controlling these oil wells? please lets get to the route of this matter. |

surely the West is reviewing its Foreign relations towards Nigeria they are tired of sustaining a hegemony that refused to make progress in the 50years |

Kpele This is Katsina-Alu playing out Aondoakaa's script. Nigerians should get ready for doctrine of electoral necessity. Let no one confuse this as victory for democracy. This is a clear case of moving the goal post so that only certain people can score. |

why was an election so credible some months back no longer credible to the Supreme Court? You guessed right!!!!!!!!!!! Its called shifting the goal post to favour certain players. |

Corrupt Chief Justice Katsina-Alu, other justices, plot legal coup against Nigerians Written by SaharaReporters, New York Friday, 05 March 2010 17:32 Aloysius Katsina-Alu The Supreme Court led by Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu, a notorious wheeler dealer, today took a first step in several sources within the judiciary and political circles described as a broad effort to thwart any meaningful political change in Nigeria and, in the short term, a plot to pave the way for former President Ibrahim Babangida and former Governor James Ibori to steal power. This morning, a seven-man panel of the apex court unanimously ruled that Arthur Agwuncha Nwankwo, presidential candidate of the People's Mandate Party (PMP) and his running mate, Muhammad Abdullahi, had a valid case in challenging the election of Umaru Yar’adua in April 2007. The legal challenge, brought by way of appeal against the election of Umaru Yar’adua and Goodluck Jonathan, received what a senior advocate characterized as “a surprise and unusual boost from the Supreme Court.” The case had earlier been thrown out by the presidential election petition tribunal headed by Justice James Ogebe on September 3rd 2007 for lacking in competence. A highly knowledgeable source told Saharareporters that the apex court’s decision to overturn Justice Ogebe’s ruling must be seen in the context of the grave power play that has paralyzed Nigeria’s governance and cast presidential leadership in a serious crisis. Loyalists to both Yar’adua and Jonathan are currently engaged in a grim brinkmanship over which faction is to exercise power – even as Yar’adua remains bedridden and has not been seen or heard from by Nigerians ten days after his purported discharge from a Saudi hospital. Today’s judgment, which was delivered with five justices in attendance while two were absent, concluded that Mr. Nwankwo’s appeal was meritorious, ruling that it set aside the September 2007 judgment for being null and void. The Supreme Court subsequently remitted the case to the lower court to be adjudicated by a fresh panel to be constituted by the President of the Court of Appeal. Three sources, two legal authorities and the third a top PDP politician, told Saharareporters that the case could prove tricky especially at the time when the country badly needed a way out of its present political logjam. “I can tell you that today’s judgment represents a move by the Supreme Court leadership in conjunction with some political operatives on the Yar’adua side of the political equation to use the court to ease out Dr. Goodluck Jonathan from office by annulling the election at the reconstituted Court of Appeal,” said one of the sources. Our informants stated that, once the election is annulled, the PDP would decide not to appeal the verdict at the Supreme Court. “Instead, the party would welcome the chance to present another set of candidates to replace Yar’adua and Jonathan – claiming that its original presidential candidate is incapacitated,” said one source. He added that the ruling party would most likely hand its ticket to Babangida, with Ibori as the vice presidential candidate. “The duo would then be positioned to steal victory in early elections that might be ordered by the Court of Appeal,” said one of our sources. Our political sources said the apex court’s judgment is part of the ruling party’s covert designs to shut out new candidates that are likely to emerge to challenge a weakened PDP in elections scheduled for 2011. A legal expert told Saharareporters that the apex court’s decision is also suspicious since a majority of the same court had ruled last year that Yar’adua’s election was in order – despite detailed evidence of substantial violations of the electoral act. “I am highly disturbed by this ruling,” said a Port Harcourt-based senior advocate, adding that the verdict “smacked of political adventurism of the worst kind.” Since January, Justice Aloysius Katsina–Alu has led the apex court. Known for his close ties to serial criminal Ibori as well as former Attorney General Michael Aondoakaa, both prominent members of the Yar’adua “kitchen cabinet,” Katsina-Alu is notorious in legal circles for his penchant for corruption and meddling in cases to derail justice. Last week, Justice Katsina-Alu pulled one of his suspicious moves when he intervened to halt the scheduled ruling of the Court of Appeal to decide the gubernatorial election in Sokoto State. One lawyer told us that the Chief Justice’s intrusive maneuver in that case, exclusively exposed by Saharareporters, was unprecedented in the history of the Nigerian judiciary. One of our sources said that the new Chief Justice appeared to be positioning the courts to help the Ibori faction of the PDP to reestablish control both of the party and Nigeria. But in a short interview with us, the lead lawyer to the plaintiffs, Nnabuike Edechime, explained that his clients actually wanted the Supreme Court to annul the 2007 election by invoking Section 37 (1) of the 2006 Electoral Act. The act states: “If after the time for the delivery of nomination paper and before the commencement of the poll, a nominated candidate dies, the Chief National Electoral Commissioner or the Resident Electoral Commissioner shall, being satisfied of the fact of the death, countermand the poll in which the deceased candidate was to participate and the Commission shall appoint some other convenient date for the election.” Mr. Edechime explained that the electoral commission should have rescheduled the 2007 election when Adebayo Adefarati, the presidential candidate of the Alliance for Democracy, died on March 29, 2007, just before the election. He said it was proper for the courts to nullify the presidential election on account of Adefarati’s death. Asked if he was aware that the ruling might have interesting political implications at this time, Edechime said he thought the annulment of the election would be the best way out of the political logjam besetting Nigeria at the moment. Today’s ruling took place in the presence of James Ogebe and John Fabiyi, two justices who played a role in upholding the legitimacy of Yar’adua’s election at the lower tribunal. After Ogebe and Fabiyi handed victory to Yar’adua, they were hastily elevated to the Supreme Court. Today’s case was presided over by Justice George Oguntade, who was absent from court. Justice Walter Onnoghen, who was also absent, wrote the ruling. Other justices on the panel are Olufunmilayo Adekeye, Mahmud Mohammed, Francis Tabai, Ikechi Ogbuagu and Muhammed Muntaka Coomasie. Wole Olanipekun and Damina Dodo, both senior advocates of Nigeria, represented Yar’adua/Jonathan while Kanu Agabi (SAN) represented the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and 40 others. Edechime, Mirabel Edozie and Uba Chukwuka represented the plaintiffs, Arthur Nwankwo and the Peoples http://www.saharareporters.com/real-news/sr-headlines/5413-corrupt-chief-justice-katsina-alu-other-justices-plot-legal-coup-against-nigerians.html |

Ibime: The way you guys talk about book cooking makes me laugh so far has Sanusi gone around the country to count the money in each Bank's vault? It is still the balance sheet of these banks he audited, of which any smart MD who was possibly cooking books like you guys claim can always get some smart accountantants to balance the books, report some losses and collect money from the CBN which they did not need in the first place. |

Ibime: What is the difference between this comment and those who said Nigeria's economy can withstand the global financial crisis? Or do we have a totally different acceptable standard for Sanusi? |
