lol. . .but what did Wole Soyinka do?

HE RESIGNED wink wink wink

lol . . . . . but Nigerian roads are not utopia since he resigned are they?

We don't want quiters we need those who can stay the course. Soyinka can not stand the antics of Nigerian politicians.

For his sake and that of this country I hope he rejects if offered the position so that we can still have those who willl criticise Government.

Wole Soyinka was once the Road Safety Chairman.

Can someone please list his legacies and relate them to the level of safety on our roads today?

Soyinka is a fine man but it wont take one fine man to correct the system

Thanks Beaf

Glad to know people see what I see

We in the South just need to work hard to give a voice to the Christains in the North.

It is important for the future of Nigeria.

Let Christain Governors Forum Emerge. !!!!!!!! That will be a first step to redrawing the political landscape.  God Knows I will rather have a Lantang President than a taliban wanna be.

So that Jonah Jang, Gabriel Suswan,  and others will have a forum to rob minds with their colleagues down south so that they can understand that their aspiration for a more prosperous, civilised and secured Benue or Plateau is better served by forming political alliances with those down South of the Niger.

This is not about undermining Muslims though but about building an egalitarian society

This is a direct result of Iliterate power hungry wife with young sons.

If any of Yar'adua's sons were grown up, this crap wont be happening. They would have called their mother to other.
Politics / Time To Redraw Nigeria's Political Landscape by OYBMEND: 4:46pm On Apr 05, 2010
After 50years of Nationhood, the status quo has not worked. With 80% living on less than $1 per day, then surely Nigeria in my view is a Nation of Minorities.

So we have to do something new, we have to shake up the structure of power and try something different. We have to reshape the political landscape

Let us transit from the term Muslim North to Muslim Part of North

Let us have a Christain Governors Forum so that Christains in the North can begin to have a new forum and group where they are equal partners like everyone else
. This has the capacity to change the choice of politics in states like Taraba, Adamawa, Benue, Jos, Nasarawa and Southern Kaduna.

I think with the above changes Muslims who have had skewed advantage since independence will begin to sit up and embrace the unity (in real terms) and secularity of Nigeria, it will ensure that Muslims who want to run Nigeria will work hard to show their moderate and civilised credentials, it will protect the interests of minority ethnic people of the North and South-South and make them part of a larger group where their voice matters just like everyone elses.

No check, just check the map of Nigeria and you willl realise that Nigeria is a majority Christain country. Why do people who want to remain in stone ages control the politicis of this country?

Its time to continue to give the Idoma, Lantangs, Beroms, Angas, Lafia, Ijaw people a voice for the sake of a new future where everybody is minority. Because when everybody is minority then their is no distinct majority and when their is no distinct majority everybody becomes Majority. And thats the basis of humanity, all are equal before God.

Nigeria is truly a Nation of Minorities.

The return of Ribadu
By Elor Nkereuwem

April 4, 2010 12:52AM
print email

Nuhu Ribadu, the former chief of Nigeria's anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has accepted an offer from Acting President Goodluck Jonathan, to be his special adviser on anti-corruption, good governance and sundry matters.

Presidency sources said at the weekend that Mr. Ribadu is expected to resume "in a matter of weeks" in Abuja. As part of his remit, Mr. Ribadu will be the presidential anchorman supervising the broad anti-corruption platform of the country which includes his former agency, the EFCC; the ICPC; the Code of Conduct Bureau and other related agencies.

He's back

Mr. Ribadu confirmed this in a telephone interview with NEXT at the weekend.

"Frankly I don't want to be drawn into any political discussion," he said. "But let me say it is true that I have been contacted. I also think it is only honest to say that Acting President Jonathan appears to have a keen understanding of the cogent priorities facing our nation which is currently teetering on the brink of disaster. It is probably right to also say he is taking the right steps on those critical priorities. For this reason, I believe it is the moral duty of Nigerians to support all efforts to save our country."

Mr. Ribadu is, at the moment, winding up a plum fellowship at the Centre for Global Development (CGD), a think tank in Washington D.C. dedicated to international issues of development. During his fellowship at the CGD, he was the lead person for the centre on anti-corruption, institutional reform, and African law enforcement policy. During this same period, he undertook special missions to advise many African countries who were just setting up anti-corruption and financial intelligence agencies.

Among the notable institutions that he consulted for were the World Bank and the United Nations (UN).

Mr. Ribadu also consulted for a host of western authorities including the United States government and the European Union (EU).

Presidency sources in Abuja said they expect Mr. Ribadu to meet with Mr. Jonathan, who will be visiting Washington at the invitation of the US president, Barack Obama, next week.

Ribadu's troubles

The former anti-corruption czar, for the past two years, had been in a running battle with the Umaru Yar'Adua led government, culminating in Mr. Ribadu's exile and the decision to take up fellowship offers, first at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom and then CDG in the US.

Last year, Mr. Ribadu admitted the decision to leave Nigeria was for self preservation. "I had to leave the country on January 3 this year (2009) after a relentless persecution which climaxed in two assassination attempts," he said in November.

At the height of his troubles with Nigeria's ailing president, Umaru Yar'Adua, who has not been seen since he took an emergency medical vacation five months ago, the former EFCC boss was dramatically charged to court with the alleged failure to properly declare his assets during his tenure as the EFCC chairman.

Mr. Ribadu was said to have failed to produce an asset declaration form, which is a crime for all senior public officers who do not do so, according to the Nigerian constitution. The Fifth Schedule of the 1999 constitution mandates all public office holders to declare all their assets.

Mr. Ribadu however consistently refutes the charges and said that he had not defaulted in the asset declaration procedure. According to him, his asset declaration forms were "submitted on assumption of office in March 2003 and (on) my exit from office in December 2008. I assert that there is no substance to this case; that my assets were (not) declared. How could I have been confirmed for my position in 2003 if I did not submit an asset declaration form to the Senate, as all officers needing senate confirmation are obligated to do?"

Insisting that the forms are in the safe custody of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Mr. Ribadu further urged the Code of Conduct Tribunal to call for the documents. "Is it also not in the power of the Tribunal to simply order the Code of Conduct Bureau to produce certified true copies of my asset declaration if this is what truly concerns the Tribunal?" he asked.

In the clear

Last week however, the federal government indicated its desire to withdraw its case against Mr. Ribadu at the Code of Conduct Tribunal last week, admitting that it had no case against the former EFCC boss.

Mr. Ribadu's fight with the government is seen to have come to an end as the former anti-graft boss prepares to return home after months of exile abroad.

The former anti-corruption czar is looking forward to it. "It is important for us to know that the nation has lost a huge ground in the past two years (and) it would take the collective effort of all patriotic Nigerians to work for the restoration of their country. I certainly look forward to coming back soon," Mr. Ribadu said.

Some of the wickedness exibited in the name of Yar'adua has the capacity to make even a healthy man terminally ill.

The truth was stood on its head and its a shame that it took Yar'adua being in coma for truth to prevail again.

Let us all learn from the life and times of Umar Yar'adua
Politics / Now That Yar'adua Can Shake Hands Of Imams . . .its Time To Act! by OYBMEND: 2:14am On Apr 04, 2010
President Yat'adua is fast being constituted into a symbol of Nigeria's racism and tribalism.

Why is it ok for Yar'adua to meet Imams but not the cabinet?
I think now that they are claiming he is well enough to shake hands and recognise his environment then please lets have a cabinet meeting by Yar'adua's bed-side.

If he is recuperating, then the Cabinet meeting will mean a solidarity get well soon visit.
If he is dead, he can be given a State Burial
If he is incapacitated but alive, he should be declared so and removed from office but given the quality of healthcare available to a head of state in any country where they can treat him best.

This business of keeping the President in hiding and making malicious reports in his name must stop. One moment it is his cousin claiming to Al-Jazeera that he has seen Yar'adua, the next moment it is Imams claiming to have seen him.
All these news designed to feed a section of the country and possibly insiting them to take up arms if the constitution of Nigeria is implemented.

Now that they are claiming that he is well enough to meet Imams, Business men. Then it should follow that he is also capable to meet the Cabinet.

If Jonathan can not mobilise and arrange for this then he simply can not protect this country from harm. Are we saying that if Turai Yar'adua constitutes her self as a terrorist tomorrow and acquires a Nuclear Bomb to blow up this country it will be ok for Jonathan to seat and watch.

These malicious propagandas about who saw Yar'adua and who did not see him is threatening the security of our country and calls for the need to put Turai and the Yar'adua issue in their place.

If it was Jonathan Sick and holding the country hostage I will still be making this call.

Politics / Who Is Abdulwaleed Omar Working For? by OYBMEND: 4:06am On Apr 01, 2010
The Rights Monitoring Group (RMG) has accused the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, of acting a political script by calling for the removal of chairman of the of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Maurice Iwu.

National coordinator of the group, Olufemi Aduwo, told our correspondent in Abuja yesterday that it is wrong for Omar to make such calls because of the recent Anambra governorship election, which his preferred candidate lost.

"You cannot be a judge in your case. Nobody would care if Omar in person joins Labour Party to demand for a redress in his vested interest, but using NLC for this purpose is a breach of public trust. What should Nigerians make of NLC as an observer in the last Anambra election and its infamous endorsement of a candidate in that election?

"What should Nigerians make of the leadership of the NLC when individuals and groups commended INEC and Nigerians for the election, but NLC chose to undermine the progress recorded by mobilizing for the removal of INEC chairman," Aduwo said.

All people = Ijaw, Yoruba, Igbo, Urhobo, Itsekiri and etc down south. No mention of Hausa Fulani.

I think this programme is already plotting a future without the Sharia states.

May be the Beroms and Lantang people in the midlle belt can join us too to build a better Nigeria for the Moderates.

mikeansy:

Those who critisize Dora are simply one of two categories

Either they have a very shallow understanding of how Politics should work or they are simply masking their intentions about the Yar'adua situation into something else.

Why can't people understand the difference between The Minister of Information (MOI) stating the position of the FEC in press conferences and a member of FEC who happens to be the MOI advising her colleagues about an issue of National Concern.

As MOI she simply told Nigerians that the FEC position is that they have not seen any new evidence to declare Yar'adua incapacitated (this was the official position of FEC, she does not have to believe it. She just has to state it to the public as discussed in meetings). But as a Minister and member of FEC her personal opinnion was to advice the FEC that they needed to come to realisation that Yar'adua is gravely ill and submitted a memo in that regard. Why can't people understand these two situations.

This does not amount to any form of U-TURN. It simply means being an honest team player. You do your job because you are part of the team but also ready to tell the team the truth when you consider it absolutely necessary to do so.

Telling Yar'adua to go and take care of his health does not amount to loving or respecting Yar'adua any less. It simply means you are willing to tell your friends the truth. I don't understand why people can't understand this simple fact. Dora has never in all her public statements criticized Yar'adua. She has always praised his character and continues to do so. SO WHERE IS THE U-TURN?

You are correct sha!!!! 100% with you on this one.

Yes there is quite a fair amount of Muslims in todays India

so it was the very violent amongst them who made up Pakistan hence why it is an Al-Qaeda preferred destination

so the extremists amongst us will move up, while others can join us.

bsparks:

To all those calling for Nigeria to split-up, how exactly in practical terms, are we going to achieve this? If u've lived in d different parts of the country and know the full extent of our ethnic and religious distribution, u'll discover it's not as clear cut as u think. E.g Which part of the divide would the Hausa-Fulani christians (yes, we do av em) fall? Wot about the muslims in the South? Maybe they'd like to move north wards. Let's not even start with the middle belt, the Igalas, Ebiras, Nupes (muslims and christians), May God give us direction

People will not be forced to choose sides

There will be a Moderate Republic and an Islamic Republic.

Those who want to live by Sharia just like Taliban Afghanistan know where to go.

Those who want peace, will move over the Berom Wall but must live in peace or consigned to jail for violence.

see map below.

Politics / Re: People Agitating For Nigeria's Break Up Are Simply Delusional & Ignorant by OYBMEND: 11:21pm On Mar 19, 2010
I think the greatest maths any rational person can do is the fact that between January and March 900 Nigerians most of them women and children have been murdered in cold blood.

Why are you not talking about that? The lives of Nigerians don't matter?

Yehman:

It will be easier 4 a camel to pass through the eye of a needle for Nigeria to break up.Pls stop all this nonsense. The truth is dat 100 years to come we will still see one Nigeria.

I will tell you what nonsense needs to stop. It is the killing of women and children in cold blood.
Politics / Re: People Agitating For Nigeria's Break Up Are Simply Delusional & Ignorant by OYBMEND: 10:45pm On Mar 19, 2010
Southern Kaduna with Majority Christain population is taken in exchange for Northern Jos.

Then Taraba, Kogi, benue, nasarawa and half adamawa joins the South.

Abuja is divided and Kano will be the undivided capital of the ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.

WHILE LAGOS IS THE CAPITAL OF THE MODERATE REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.

Chrisbenogor:

MEND take your division to your village.

I think you should take the killing of women and children to your village

However the Islamic Republic has an option of Negotiation and preventing this division if they drop sharia and promise to protect Nigerian citizens within their states while signing undertaking that whenever there are killings all involved will be convicted no matter how highly placed in the society.
Politics / Re: People Agitating For Nigeria's Break Up Are Simply Delusional & Ignorant by OYBMEND: 10:34pm On Mar 19, 2010
This is more doable than most think

It is not about All Christains being unable to live with all Muslims, its about Moderate Nigeria vs The Extremists amongst us and the good thing is that these extremists have already voted to practice Sharia way of life, a kind of life seen only in Taliban Afghanistan.

See my map division below dividing the country with a BEROM WALL between Moderate Republic of Nigeria and Islamic Republic of Nigeria

Politics / Re: People Agitating For Nigeria's Break Up Are Simply Delusional & Ignorant by OYBMEND: 7:24pm On Mar 19, 2010
This break up is not about All Christains being unable to live with all Muslims

It is about all Moderates (Christains / Muslims alike) being unable to live with Extremists.

The Muslims in Kwara, South West, Kogi and Notherners in Taraba, Nasarawa, Benue, Southern Kaduna and the rest of Souther Nigeria, are generally moderate people who want peace.

The ugliest extremists amongst us are found in Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Bauchi, Jigawa etc.

A close look on our map shows that our map supports this line of break up with KANO not Abuja as the undivided capital for extremists.

These Hausa Goat Herders are simply not worth it.
