Apart from bad govt policies, our local producers are the reasons things are so expensive. These local producers can't produce enough for Nigerian consumption, they will encourage the govt to ban importation by lying that they are producing enough, govt will finally ban importation of the product which then lead to low supply, high demand and then high price . Rice and cement became expensive due to this fact, same with other commodities. Local production is supposed to go side by side with importation in order for consumers to have a choice

You need super powers to keep a business open in Nigeria in comparison to other African countries. You pay multiple taxes to federal, state and local governments. You pay local Bales and Obas to maintain their several wives and concubines. You pay law enforcement to guard your facilities. You pay Omo-oniles when they are broke. You pay to generate your power and water supply. Do other African countries extort businesses that way?

After paying all these things that you listed, they will still make far above the profits than other cement companies that don't pay those fees, where are the excess profits coming from? Through greed and exploitation.

did you read an earlier thread where we were told that Nigerian cement producers make far more profit than their international counterparts? They have advantage of having limestone deposits and local access to raw materials within Nigeria than their international counterparts? Diesel is not the excuse, it is because these people are a cartel, open the industry to other companies and watch cement price crash. The product already leave the factories at expensive prices, adding the extra costs incurred by distributors and retailers take the cost almost beyond reach of an average Nigerian.

Big scam, the only thing he succeeded in doing is to draw more attention to the ripping-off that he, Dangote and co and doing to Nigerians.
