In the dead of night on Sunday, October 29, 2023, chaos struck the Rivers State House of Assembly as hoodlums invaded and set ablaze the hallowed chambers of the Assembly Complex. The fire outbreak severely compromised the structural integrity of the building, making it unsafe for lawmakers and workers alike.

However, the deteriorating condition of the Assembly Complex was not a new concern. The 9th Rivers State House of Assembly had previously expressed worries about its poor state. During the commissioning of the official residence of the Speaker in July 2022, the former Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, openly criticized the deteriorating state of the hallowed chambers. He maintained that project execution was not the responsibility of the legislature but of the executive, promising that his administration would construct a befitting legislative chamber for the lawmakers.

GOVERNOR FUBARA’S PROACTIVE INTERVENTION

True to his leadership style, His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, swiftly moved to assess the damage caused by the fire and to explore possible measures to restore the facility. However, what should have been a routine inspection turned into an orchestrated assault on the Governor himself. Shockingly, overzealous security officials attacked the elected Governor of Rivers State, firing tear gas and water cannons at him. This unprovoked aggression was later revealed to be a ploy to shield certain lawmakers who were attempting to execute an ill-fated impeachment plot against the Governor.

Despite this brazen conspiracy, Governor Fubara remained undeterred. Upon assessing the destruction, he immediately directed security agencies to launch a full-scale investigation into the incident. He also tasked the State Ministry of Works with conducting an integrity test on the facility to determine its viability.

A NECESSARY RECONSTRUCTION, NOT DEMOLITION

Following technical reports from the Ministry of Works and persistent appeals from lawmakers for a befitting Assembly chamber, it became evident that retaining the existing structure further weakened by fire would be courting disaster. Thus, in the interest of safety and functionality, Governor Fubara took the decisive step of approving the dismantling of the compromised structure and awarding a contract for the construction of a modern, befitting hallowed chamber for the Rivers State House of Assembly.

It is, therefore, mischievous and outrightly deceptive to insinuate that Governor Fubara arbitrarily woke up one day and decided to demolish the legislative chambers. The facts speak for themselves: the Assembly Complex was already in a deplorable state, the fire incident further weakened its integrity, and the Governor acted decisively to prevent future disasters.

The previous administration acknowledged the need for a new hallowed chamber but failed to actualize it. Now, amid political challenges, Governor Fubara has taken up this responsibility, demonstrating his commitment to good governance and democracy.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara deserves commendation for his swift response and commitment to providing the lawmakers with a world-class legislative chamber. Those peddling falsehoods to the contrary are merely driven by selfish political interests, but the truth remains undiluted: Rivers State is under the leadership of a Governor who prioritizes progress over political distractions.

Secondly if you also factor in that Reno video about how same woman accused him of sexually harassing her which she later hurriedly pull down same videos of sexual harassment when the other party was able to convince people she was just using that as a blackmailing strategy.Akpabio too can not be trusted either Sha.
Lastly someone is using the opportunity to see if they could send her packing to pave way for him to take over.

As much as we blame wike, Fubara too share a great significant part of the blame. Some aggrieved political class not happy with Wike used Fubara and now he is on his own. You and I know this one too.
The president try to come in the first time to resolve the matter politically and those same political class against wike were telling Fubara not to agree to any deal till Fubara started saying such an agreement was only political and he isn't bound to follow it.Now we all have seen how it has degenerated and it isn't in Fubara's favor. People especially those one who don't like the president are advising and expecting Tinubu to throw wike under the bus for Fubara and I just laughed.

And am sure u know it was not expressly pass as requested by the president.clauses were added to it like the national assembly must be the one to make laws for them instead of the FEC the president talked about.Also instead of the six month, they propose the issue should be reviewed frequently unless the 6month that was proposed and there is this third one I can't remember.

But in all honesty what do you think was the way forward in River state.they should have allowed them to continue the lack of governance supreme Court declared was happening in River state by allowing each side to the divides to continue politics of dominance. You know for more than 1 year those guys didn't receive any salary or allowance.Isnt that antidemocratic not to release fund to those arm of government. The National Assembly has 48hrs which expires tomorrow Thursday to ratify or reject the Emergency declaration

With the President swearing in the Sole Administrator when the National Assembly has not either ratified or rejected, it simply means that he has gained the assurance from both the Senate president and House of Rep speaker that all PDP and LP lawmakers will comply.

Since the day femi falana said 3 members of the house of assembly in rivers can validly legislate for rivers state on account of supposed defection of 27 members,I lost any form of respect I had for him as a lawyer.Honestly, even if the 27 members got their seats declared vacant on account of defections,the appropriate and legal thing to be done was for the NASS to takeover the functions of the rivers house of assembly since 3 can't form quorum in 31 members house.

I watched two interviews on arise tv yesterday that has made me come to the conclusion that the issue of whether the president can suspend elected governors and legislature in case of emergency rule has not been tested in the law court.Justice Owaode rtd who criticized some aspect of the supreme Court judgement on Rivers assembly case,said the limits of section 305 of the Constitution has not determined.People saying the president can't suspend the governor and legislature are relying on section 188 which is not a case during emergency.

Finally,I am 90% sure the president won't get 73 votes in the Senate to get this through.I think he should have informed the leadership of the NASS at least 2days before the emergency declaration.I understand the fear and concerns of the president regarding threats to disrupt oil production in Rivers,but I think the emergency rule was too hasty.
