rodeo0070: Products and services that promise to instantly brighten your smile can easily be found on grocery shelves or at the dentist’s office. But before reaching for that home whitening kit or enduring another hour sitting on your dentist’s chair, consider these 13 natural, sometimes unconventional (but often delicious!), tooth-whitening alternatives:

1. Oil (sesame oil or virgin coconut oil)

Oil, or more specifically, oil pulling, is when oil is used for gargling, not cooking. Sesame oil or virgin coconut oil is swished around inside the mouth and then spat out after fifteen minutes. As the substance is vigorously “pulled” back and forth between your teeth, the mucous membranes inside your mouth absorb nutrients from it.

Sesame oil has omega-3 fatty acids, iron, calcium, and vitamins A, B and E; while virgin coconut oil has antibacterial properties that promote healthier gums and cavity-free teeth. Just make sure not to swallow any of the spittle that will form as you gargle.

2. Strawberries

Malic acid is a natural astringent that acts as a bleaching agent, and it is present in most commercially available tooth-whitening products. Strawberries are filled with this key ingredient, which will whiten your teeth naturally, so make sure to add them to your basket on your next trip to the farmer’s market. The vitamin C in strawberries also aids in removing plaque.

3. Apples

Apples also contain high levels of malic acid. The act of biting and chewing on this crunchy fruit gently scrubs away debris, stains, and bacteria from your mouth.

4. Celery

Say goodbye to tooth stains as you snack on that piece of celery during your break! The fibrous cellulose act as a natural toothbrush, while the high water content stimulates saliva production, your natural mouth cleanser.

5. Carrots

Chewing on these rabbit favorites raw will increase the amount of saliva in your mouth, cleaning it further. The vitamin A in carrots is good, not just for your eyesight, but helps strengthen tooth enamel as well.

6. Broccoli

When eaten raw, this vegetable gently abrades tooth surfaces, which removes unsightly stains. The iron found in broccoli protects tooth enamel by coating it with an invisible barrier that keeps cavity-causing acids away.

7. Cheese

Being devoid of color, most cheeses will not stain teeth. They also contain calcium and phosphorus, which help strengthen teeth and gums through re-mineralization. Those properties also help in insulating teeth from harmful acids in the mouth.

8. Water

Drinking water helps you stay hydrated and prevents stains from forming on your teeth. Swish it in your mouth after eating or drinking pigment-rich foods and beverages to keep your smile white and bright. Water also reduces your mouth’s overall acidity, lessening the likelihood of damaging your tooth enamel. Just make sure you stick to flat water, as the sparkling variety increases the chances of eroding tooth surfaces.

9. Pineapple

Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain, which is a natural stain remover that also helps separate plaque from the surface of your teeth. This prevents tooth erosion and discourages cavities from forming, resulting in healthier and whiter teeth.

10. Shiitake Mushrooms

This fungi is filled with lentinan, a type of sugar that does not promote tooth decay, but instead curbs its formation by preventing plaque-building bacteria from proliferating in your mouth.
11. Salmon

The vitamin D found in salmon helps the body absorb calcium and phosphorus, nutrients that strengthen your teeth and contribute to a beautiful smile.

12. Basil

As a natural antibiotic, this herb has bacteria-inhibiting properties that prevent the formation of cavities.

13. Onions and Garlic

The key is in eating these raw. Doing so releases bacteria-reducing compounds called thiosulfinates and thiosulfonates, promoting healthier teeth by reducing the production of plaque. Being colorless, these foods will also not stain teeth.

PoliticsN500bn SURE-P Fund Missing – Senate by packman(op): 2:08pm On Nov 06, 2013
The Senate on Tuesday said the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation had not accounted for the N32 removed as subsidy on each litre of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) sold from January 2012 to September 2013.

It lamented that officials of the NNPC failed to honour its invitation to give account of how they managed the accrued fund.

Members of the Senate ad hoc committee on the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme raised the alarm after NNPC and the Central Bank of Nigeria officials failed to honour an appointment with them on Tuesday.

A member of the committee, Senator Kabiru Marafa, said the committee had observed that over N800bn ought to have accrued for the SURE-P projects between January 2012 and September 2013.

According to him, the accrued fund will be over N800bn based on N32 that is removed from each of the 25 billion litres of fuel sold in 21 months.

He said the figure was contained in a letter dated October 9, 2013 from the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources to the committee. The letter, he said, was signed by the ministry’s Director of Finance and Accounts, Mr. Salmanu Faskari.

Marafa said, “The committee had earlier written the NNPC to ascertain the quantity of fuel sold from when the subsidy programme started till date. NNPC gave us the quantity sold from January 2012 and September 2013, covering 21 months.

“If you add everything together, it will amount to about 25 billion litres and if you multiply 25 billion litres by N32, you get about N800bn. What SURE-P coordinators told us when they appeared before us was that they had so far collected about N300bn since the subsidy removal regime started.

“The SURE-P team led by Mr. Christopher Kolade said they were receiving N15bn flat rate every month. If you multiply 21 months by N15bn, it will be about N350bn. What we are even asking is what happened to the over N500bn difference. That is what we ask the NNPC to come and tell us.

“We were also disappointed that the CBN was not here because they are the custodian of the fund. They should come and account for how they came about the N15bn they were remitting every month when it was not the same quantity of fuel they were selling every month.

“The figure cannot be a flat rate. Based on the figure which the ministry supplied, in January this year, the nation consumed about 1.3 billion litres of petrol but it had dropped to 770, 695, 645 in September 2013.”

Chairman of the Senate ad hoc committee on SURE-P, Senator Abdul Ningi, threatened to use all legitimate means to bring the affected officials before the committee.

i actually experienced the wild life as a toddler i was not caged at all i was as free as the air to be sincere i went to school all by my self no school bus we trekked to school came back home all by our self at the time we choose after eating we would go out ,and play ball on the street till evening or even night we would stroll greet our parents and enter inside we were all given free life to live in my house please to remind i am actually not from a poor home my were not reach but at least we were comfortable to some extent i enjoyed my life as free child i watched t.v till i felt i was satisfied or being driven away by my seniors, i hanged with friends of my choice i was only dragged to church on Sundays by mum cause she is a church type yet we were so much freedom and to me i think it has helped me a lot cause i learnt a lot on the street and had a lot of experience and also caught a lot of fun grin grin grin grin like bathing in the rain grin grin grin playing mud house e.t.c

this have made me disagree with the ideology of caging a child mehn i would love kiss kiss to come to this life as a free child it was fun...... grin grin grin grin

@ OP The truth is that i feel your pain the Nigerian Poly foundation was being built on a weak ground as a matter of fact polytechnic were actually a play Ground in the early 70's and 80's letting the universities taking all the educational Glory before they could realize it, they were already written off in the labour market.

am sure polytechnic students back in the 80's would confirm my statement. but the truth is that most polytechnic has improved beyond mere educational standard polytechnic like yabatech, auchipoly, nekede poly etc this are the ones i am very sure of.

the polytechnic is no more the poly we use to know. but i think the polys need to work more in other to take the glory from the universities since they involve more in practicals for them to be recognized in the labour market.

my opinion
