Is Genevive famous for being the best actress in Nollywood or is there something else that makes her famous? Am asking this cos if it's all about acting, then I think there is another Nollywood actress who beats genevive hands down. She goes by the name Stephanie Okereke. This lady displays better moves and gets her moods for each scene right.

PrinceKevo,
I guess you do not need to crucify Pa-Ken, I believe what he said can be put to practice in Nigeria, having worked abroad and appreciate employers not keen about my certificates but my ability to deliver, meets and exceed targets, it changed my orientation about the rationale behind worshiping certificates in Nigeria, I took up a short term role as a technical Project Manager with a company on a 3G Optimization project of one of the Mobile Operator's in Nigeria prior to its commercial launch late 2008.

I had to recruit the guys to be on my team, tons of CV had been received and on my selection criteria, experience far outweighs whatever certificates you have, at the end of the day I ended up not asking any of the successful guys to show me if they had a degree or not, one of the top performers happens to be a Youth Corp member who had some experience and could deliver better than guys some guys with loads of certificates.

We really need to look inward and encourage ourselves to turn Nigeria to a better place to live, BTW while I was leaving after three months, the same was asked to act as the Project Manager and he is doing just great now, attended some PM oriented training and he's continued to be a top performer with more responsibilities.
Thank you very much feasy1. I have gone through a lot of responses and I'm quite happy that we have spotted the loopholes in our educational system. It is now high time future employers desist from this craze about qualifications and start recruiting based on strengths, capabilities and technical know how a candidate will bring into an organization or establishment. I have already started in my own little way.
Career / Why Do Nigerians Spend So Much Time In School? by PaKen: 6:05pm On May 28, 2010
It really baffles me when I go through the CV's of job applicants here at home since I came back from the UK. I have noticed that the average age of most applicants without any job experience is 27-30 (ie fresh graduates). Within that age bracket in the UK, one should have had at least 6-7 years job experience because at 16 you are legally free to leave school and start work and if you decide to acquire a university degree you must have completed it before you are 21. I had a manager back then who joined the company when he was 17 and acquired his university degree on ''2 days release per week''. He became a manager at 33. Having spent 13years with the company, he fully understands the job role. I do not believe that one can acquire all the skills you need in a job by spending so much time in school because when you leave school as a fresh graduate you'll still need on the job training to function effectively in your chosen role. I understand that our educational system does not help matters at all (ie incessant industrial actions and NYSC thing too which has lost it's purpose). What should be done to correct this abnormally in the future?

If PHCN really deals with you like they do to me anyway you will know that the 12k for Gen fuelling is even moderate thats roughly N400/day (E be like say this PHCN people sef dey one collabo with the fuel merchants). Well let us cut 3k out so we are left with 9k here.

Wify can't pack lunch for you everyday now, traffic no go gree that one 4 Lagos.

I'ld revise the list again to be;
Transport/M Public Transport - N15k Private Car fuellling N25K
Fuel for Gen N9K
Lunch @ work N7K
Food Items @ home N10K
Utility BIlls(Gas, PHCN etc) N7K
Misc N10K
Phone Bills N5K
Tithes, Offerings, Donations etc N18K

@Pa-Ken
I think you  leverage on joining staff bus to work, and secondly you must have cut down a lot on buying home appliances since you've acquired most of them way back (You probably were not etremely frivolous afterall). What this portends is that you don't set aside money for home appliances anymore so I think that must have helped in jerking your savings to more than 50%.

@all
From our feedbacks I am deducing that a starter has a lot of set targets to meet and may only be able to save very little  while even occasionally dipping hands into the savings.

For me I have not lived an extravagant life but I have come to realise that Lagos can be really expensive. Funny you never know how the expenses creep in.

May be we should put some figures down for proper analysis, my scenario is Lagos and residence is Mainland while office is oin the Island

Transport/M    Public Transport - N15k    Private Car fuellling   N25K
Fuel for Gen                                N12K
Lunch @ work                             N10K
Food Items @ home                   N10K
Utility BIlls(Gas, PHCN etc)         N7K
Misc                                           N10K
Phone Bills                                 N5K

Any more realistic usual bills

@Leighcon: let me give u a little formular which may be of help to you. In terms of transport to work, if u have a colleague who lives in the same area as u do, u could do car sharing if (he/she also has a car) alternating between the 4 weeks of the month, so u get 2 use your car 2wice in a month. If this is not the case, u may consider not using ur car the whole month alternating btw public transport and driving to work. This will indeed save u some stuff, Lunch at work @10k?? (u can get your wify or girlfriend to pack lunch for you, I mean home made lunch, it's more healthy for you and will save you a lot), 12k for fuelling generator?? (u shouldnt be running generator everyday, 5k should be okay to run gen for 2-3 hrs on days when you absolutely have to. Somebody mentioned tithe, I personally dont believe in it but make sure u give offerings when you go to church. keep aside 10k for recharge cards and miscellaneous expenses, I hope these little tips help,
Career / Re: Personal Savings Culture Amongst Youth - Inputs Required by PaKen: 3:53pm On May 27, 2010
@Pa-Ken

Do you stay in Lagos?
Do you own a car? (And at what rate does it visit clinic)
What are the regular utility bills you pay?

And you are not a starter I think so you probably have assets (Home appliances) at least the necessary ones - Confirm this.

We really need to learn from your formula

@leighcon: No I dont live in Lagos, I live in PortHarcourt
Yes I own a small car but I use it only weekends as we have a staff bus. It hardly visits the mechanic except for some routine servicing. I can afford a big car but it's not a priority for now.
I pay rent, electricity (though a self-con)
Yes of course, I have home appliances which I acquired when I newly started working. It's not difficult, you can do it. You just need to cut down on some ''unnecessary expenses''
Career / Re: Personal Savings Culture Amongst Youth - Inputs Required by PaKen: 2:36pm On May 27, 2010
When I came across this topic it was like I was being referred to by the poster. I got this job in June 2008 which pays nearly N200k after tax and by the end of 2009 I had barely nothing to show as savings after 1 and half yrs, this was because I spent those times attending to too many family/friends problems sending out N5k, N10k, N20k without keeping track, those called for and those totally uncalled for (just to be nice), sending money to girlfriends, buying many irrelevant stuff, taking flights locally, clubbing etc. At the end of last year, I had 2 reflect on my spendings. I made a new year resolution in January 2010 to cut down on so many things including my own life style. It was difficult at first and especially as I layed off all girlfriends but one, lol. I started saving more than 50% of my earnings and I cant believe I have saved nearly N600k after all living expenses and the year is just into it's 5th month. If I continue like this I'll save N1.2-1.5 million by the end of the year and you still have your pension set aside from your salary. People, let's keep saving for the future and in the long run you'll be happy as it will help you plan when you settle down finally into married life, right now I've got all my necessary expenditure into excel sheet to keep track. You may make enemies (people calling you ijebu and sort) but in the long run it's about you.(dont get me wrong- I'm still committed to my immediate family needs)

Romance / Re: 10 Things Men And Women Do That Destroy Relationships by PaKen: 12:46pm On Mar 26, 2010
r231:

Everyone is always talking about what people lack in relationships and why they don't last, but what about the things people do consistently that destroy relationships. A list that gives 10 reasons that men and women will walk away and it does NOT include cheating.

Top 5 Things Men Do that Destroy Relationships:

1. Not Answering the Phone:

When a man doesn't answer the phone, especially at certain times of the day, it causes suspicion in a woman’s mind.

2. Walk Your Talk:

If a man says he is going to do something, then he needs to make sure that he does it. Don’t give empty promises.

3. Learn to say “I Don't Know”:

When it comes to a mans ego, they cant stand to say “I DON'T KNOW!!!” Women cant stand when a man thinks he knows EVERYTHING!!! Its okay to “Google it” if you don't know.

4. Hogging the Remote:

When a man just takes complete control over the TV, it’s a simple sign that a man is not interested in the things that his woman likes. Watching sports is cool but not 24\7.

5. Bringing Up Weight:

A woman doesn't need her man to constantly remind her that she needs to hit the gym. A woman realizes that she has gained a few pounds when the 1st pound hits. Also by a man always bringing up a woman's weight, it makes it seem that all he cares about is the way she looks and not what she has to offer.

Top 5 Things Women Do to Destroy Relationships:

1. The “WHERE ARE YOU” question:

When a woman calls a man and the first thing she ask him is “WHERE ARE YOU” That is annoying. If the woman is asking for a specific reason then thats understandable but to ask a man who all the time shows that a woman doesn't trust her man when he’s not with her.

2. The “Who You Talking To” question:

When a man is on the phone and this question is asked, men find this to be very rude. Asking this question co-insides with the above question, it shows that a woman doesn't trust her man and makes a woman appear to be nosy.

3. Nagging:

When a woman starts nagging about nothing. If a man hasn’t done what you want him to do and you nag him about it, it’s really not going to get done once a woman starts nagging.

4. Holding a Grudge:

When a woman holds a grudge and then tries to bring up all the old stuff in a new argument, that drives a man crazy and makes him non-responsive.

5. Allowing a Man Time to Breathe:

Men need time by themselves, to be with friends and family. Men need to feel independent. When a woman doesn’t give a man time to himself then he feels suffocated.

DISCUSS…

This is exactly the reason why I walked away from a 5 yr old semi-relationship, lol
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Why The Age Discrimination On Jobs? by PaKen: 4:04pm On Mar 24, 2010
I have been reading these comments so far and you guys are not far from the truth. However, I must point out something you guys are failing to acknowledge here. Some multinational organizations do not put up this age barrier in their job adverts. They are looking for highly skilled individuals as they do not want to go through the experience required in training green horns fresh from the university, even if they do, they have to put them on a low wage scheme to match their individual skill sets. Again, no matter what you study in the university, when you get employed, you still need to go through the basic training required of you to perform your job efficiently. I for one is an example, I studied for a degree in Pharmacy and now work for a pharmaceutical giant but had to go through series of on the job training 80% of what I never did in my 5 yrs of University (eg IT applications, as everything is done electronically) and 1 yr of postgraduate degree. My point is that if you have the required skill set which an organization requires urgently, they'll still hire you even if you are 50yrs old. The underlying truth is that in Nigeria there are too many people gunning for the same job with virtually no much difference in skill set, that is one of the reasons employers put up this age barrier to selectively eliminate some applicants. One of my friends got hired for a job in Nigeria at 37yrs cos of his vast experience and skill set. So guys, whatever field of endeavour you find yourself, try to acquire and develop a lot of skills, you wouldnt know where you'll need it later in life. Dont get me wrong, I do not support this age barrier thing in job adverts because they are illegal. Recruitment and hence salary should be based on qualification, experience and skill sets. period

It is definitely easier to win the EPL than to win any other league.

Mourinho won in his first season what they couldnt win for 50yrs, Ancelotti is on his way to winning, Grant without a license almost won.

Wenger in his 12 years of coaching won one league in France and even Japan combined and he won in his first full season in England.

Juande Ramos from La Liga won a trophy in his first year in EPL, Benitez won a trophy in his first year in EPL

When in EPL you compete with dumbasses like Redknapp, Mark Hughes and Sam Alardyce

Bros, you must have been watching the EPL in another planet, because Rafa Benitez has NEVER won the EPL as a coach, his best finish was 2nd behind Manchester United last season 2008/2009, Please get your facts right dickhead

Point of correction. It is Nigeria vs Cameroun and not Nigeria vs Zambia. Cameroun, Zambia and Gabon all defeated themselves and three of them has the same goal advantage, but using head to head (just how Mali was eliminated) Cameroun came out tops, Zambia second and Gabon eliminated (what a pity). o it is Nigeria vs Cameroun semi-final
Take a look at the head to head sores:-
Cam 0:1 Gabon -(Worst head to head Result)
Cam 3:2 Zambia -(Best head to head Result)
Zambia 2:1 Gabon -(Second Best head to head Result)

Fellow nairalanders, I hv reflected on a lot of issues bordering on this entity called Nigeria from independence till date and have come 2 discover that Nigeria's main problem is the North; because they have seized power for so long, it baffles me how irrational and selfish they are. come 2 think of it, what and how does d North contribute to the economy of Nigeria (aside groundnut, tomatoes n cattles) yet the reap d chunk of the national treasury, hv better roads than any other part of the country + hv a larger allocation when it comes 2 ''federal character''. they r no longer concentrating on harnessing agriculture which they r blessed with 2 d good of the country, rather their eyes and efforts are now focussed on draining the resources of the south becos of selfish interest. In summary, the North is a parasite to Nigeria; had Biafra succeded, Nigeria will be no better than Niger republic--- this thread really annoys me.
