This world is a sad place, when you sit and think of the level of scandal and fraud that must have occurred between Boeing and the FAA just to get Boeing to beat Airbus into flying a more fuel efficient plane. The CEO of Boeing must go to prison for this, cause they toyed with peoples lives knowing the ad changes the entire designs of those planes but lied to airlines/pilots that nothing had changed - just to make profits. Anyone could have been on those planes, because they were actually brand new planes(coffin). One lesson I take from this is, dont be so eager to try anything new(be it a car, phone, airplane) if you have a choice, White men lie just as we blacks do. Cause in those their evil board rooms profit is all they care about. Secondly, question every one, question your doctors, your teachers you have a right to know what ever they do that might affect you. Of course Boeing would pay for the damages, but is that ever really a monetary replacement to a dead loved one?. and I wont be surprised that these 737 max planes would find their ways back quietly into the air spaces

My brother, no be small thing o
I’m especially saddened by the death of Prof. Akinsanmi
His focus was calling to attention the corruption in Africa
And to be killed by the corruption in America
This life, enh?

I haven't read any official report stating that the pilots actually switched off the MCAS. ( not just turn it off but actually deactivate it).

I would very much appreciate a link to any of such or similar report.

However, if they did, then chances are they did it when the plane was already plunging down to the ground.

Just one minute into Flight 302 from Addis Ababa to Nairobi in neighboring Kenya, the captain, Yared Getachew, reported that they were having flight-control problems.

Then the anti-stall system kicked in and pushed the nose of the plane down for nine seconds. Instead of climbing, the plane descended slightly. Audible warnings — “Don’t Sink” — sounded in the cockpit. The pilots fought to turn the nose of the plane up, and briefly they were able to resume climbing.

But the automatic anti-stall system pushed the nose down again, triggering more squawks of “Don’t Sink” from the plane’s ground-proximity warning system.

Following a procedure that Boeing reiterated after the Lion Air crash, the Ethiopian pilots flipped two switches and disconnected the anti-stall system, then tried to regain control. They asked to return to the Addis Ababa airport, but were continuing to struggle getting the plane to gain altitude.

This crash would have been avoided if the pilot simply deactivated the MCAS and flew the plane manually.

Other pilots had reported similar problem with the 737 and all they did was turn off the MCAS and flew the plane manually till it leveled again.

Why both the Ethiopian and Lion Air Crew didn't think to switch off the MCAS is still mysterious. The simple answer is that they didn't even know it existed to know to turn it off when the plane was nose-diving.

Boeing included a new safety feature in their 737 jets and somehow decided to not completely disclose it.

Read the story or the update from Ethiopian airways
They deactivated
It still didn’t work
The pilot did everything and the plane still crashed!

Imagine, the level of greed in Boeing that lead to this
And they even failed to ground their planes after the Lion air crash in Indonesia
If they had done the necessary thing

Travel / Boeing's CEO Admitted A Failure In Its Software Killed 346 People by Pangea: 5:31am On Apr 05, 2019
Boeing Is Taking Responsibility In The 737 Jet Crashes That Killed 346 People

Boeing's CEO admitted on Thursday that a failure of its software was one of the causes in the recent deadly 737 Max jet crashes.

Dennis Muilenburg said a new software update would prevent future incidents.

"It's our responsibility to eliminate this risk," Muilenburg said in a video message on Thursday. "We own it, and we know how to do it."

Muilenburg's acknowledgement of Boeing's responsibility came after the release earlier Thursday of a preliminary report on the March 10 crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, which killed all 157 people on board. In the report, Ethiopian investigators said the jet's pilots followed all safety procedures before the crash.

Though the pilots followed procedures, the report said false sensor readings activated the jet's automatic system against stalling, known as the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, or MCAS. The jet nose-dived minutes after takeoff, similarly to when Lion Air Flight 610, another 737 Max, crashed last October and killed all 189 people on board.

The crashes prompted airlines and international regulators to ground their 737 Max jets, and pilots accused Boeing of failing to train them on the MCAS system.

On Thursday, Muilenburg said a software update would be ready to implement within weeks.

"This update, along with the associated training and additional educational materials that pilots want in the wake of these accidents, will eliminate the possibility of unintended MCAS activation and prevent an MCAS-related accident from ever happening again," he said.

[flash]https://twitter.com/i/status/1113880952575549441[/flash]

He said Boeing remained confident in the safety of its jet.

"When the Max returns to the skies with the software changes to the MCAS function, it will be among the safest airplanes ever to fly," he said.

A report on the cause of the Lion Air crash has not yet been released, and Muilenburg stressed that any air crash was the result of a chain of events. He added that he hoped Boeing would again earn the trust of air travelers.

"We at Boeing are sorry for the lives lost in the recent 737 Max accidents. These tragedies continue to weigh heavily on our hearts and minds, and we extend our sympathies to the loved ones of the passengers and crew on board Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302," he said. "All of us feel the immense gravity of these events across our company and recognize the devastation of the families and friends of the loved ones who perished."

Travel / Boeing 737 Crashed Because Boeing Wanted Airline To Pay Extra For Safety Feature by Pangea: 9:30pm On Mar 21, 2019
Boeing 737 Max 8 planes that crashed in Ethiopia and Indonesia lacked two optional pilot safety features that the company charges EXTRA for shocked shocked shocked

The two Boeing 737 Max 8 jets that crashed in Ethiopia and Indonesia lacked two safety features in their cockpits that the aircraft manufacturer charges extra for but could have helped pilot detect erroneous readings.

The optional safety features - an angle of attack indicator and a disagree light - are not mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration and are currently only installed if the airline pays for the add-ons.

Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 were not equipped with the safety features, officials told the New York Times.

As investigators look into the cause of the crashes, attention has turned to a new software in the jets that takes readings from devices called angle of attack sensors. The software can essentially push a plane's nose down in some circumstances, for example when the sensors suggest the plane may be stalling.

The angle of attack indicator shows how much the aircraft's nose it tilted up or down. The disagree light activates if the two sensors in the plane's software do not agree.

Boeing will now make the disagree light free of charge as part of a forthcoming software update to the 737 MAX fleet in the wake of the two fatal crashes, officials briefed on the matter said on Thursday.

The manufacturer will also retrofit older planes with the light that did not initially receive it.

The angle of attack indicator will remain a feature that airlines can add on, officials said.

Boeing has not commented about the safety features.

The entire 737 MAX fleet has been grounded following the deadly crashes in Ethiopia and Indonesia that occurred just five months apart.

Faulty angle of attack sensors were blamed, in part, for the Indonesia disaster last October that killed 189 people. The sensors have also been at the center of initial investigations into this month's Ethiopia crash in which 157 died.

While the two features missing from those two planes are not required by regulators, experts said they were key to safety.

'They're critical, and cost almost nothing for the airlines to install,' Bjorn Fehrm, an analyst at the aviation consultancy Leeham, told the New York Times.

'Boeing charges for them because it can. But they're vital for safety.'

The feature is sold at an extra cost, which means some budget airlines like Lion Air have chosen not to fit them.

As the Election Day gets closer, one thing that is as clear as the day, is this fact!
Nigerians must get it right, now.
Any one that is still sentimental believing APC or PDP will clear the same mess they collectively put us in,
Are clearly out of touch with reality!
For your information
APC is PDP
And PDP is APC!
The future are the teeming youths!
If Sowore , Durotoye or Morghalu wins?
You are sure of 100% representation of the youths in government
All the ancient ancestors Buhari brought out of mothballs into government will be sent back home to await their rendezvous with the grim reaper.
All the youths stampeding and fainting for BB Naija will be busy and gainfully employed.
The hunger pushing people into rituals, crimes and death will be drastically reduced.

Please, I will have you know
You only reap what you sow

All the we will be alright las las is a fantasy
Many that said that last year are already dead awaiting their burial
It will only get better las las when you vote someone that will create the country that can guarantee that.
APC and PDP are creating a large scale cemetery and they are calling it nation building
