Are you sure you really followed that tournament?

Zidane was red carded against Saudi Arabia the second game in which he scored. He missed the game against Denmark and Paraguay in the second round. Yes 1998 wasn't his best tournament but he stood up to be counted for his country when they needed him the most. Same for Euro 2000 and the 2006 World Cup. I can say without any fear of contradiction if Zidane was on the pitch for the penalty shootout in the final against Italy they would definitely have won.
I supported Italy in that finals but if zidane finished that game France would hv won no doubt

European football has evolved to over-emphasize efficiency over flair ...giving us some of the boring functional teams we see today.

Zizou helped France achieve what their star studded counterparts in the 80's couldn't achieve with Platini.

De Bruyne is an exceptional player but comparing him to Zizou is football blasphemy.
This golden generation of Belgian players have largely underachieved.
that Belgian team na disgrace 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I said one of the favorites. Not the favorite. Read what you quoted.
they were never among the favourites rather emerged as surprise of the tournament with Croatia that finished 3rd

Many tagged the French triumph in that world cup as fluke but only start taking them serious when they won euro 2000

That Zidane ballon d'or in 98 was the joke of the century.

Ronaldo De Lima was already amazing before the world cup. Was by far better than Zidane. During the world cup, Ronaldo De Lima was brilliant and scored five goals.

Ronaldo De Lima played all games, seven. Zidane missed threw games.

So at what point did Zidane become world best. Zidane was not even better than Del Piero that year. Del Piero just failed to score in the world cup, if not he was the man for Juventus.

It is a mystery how Zidane confused everyone but me.

Please, France were one of the favorites. France had already made the Euros semi final in 1996, two years before that and had a mean squad.

Michel Platini who was local organizing committee chairman already predicted France will win it due to their preparation. It was even televised on one of Nta National shows in preparation.
you lie. The favourite em route to that World Cup was Brazil

France wasn’t even top 5 in ranking of likely winners of that competition

Then Italy,Netherlands,Argentina and Brazil were stacked with world class players

For instance Netherlands had players like cocu, kluivert, davids,de boer brothers, stam, bergkamp, overmas just to mention a few I can remeber

leave am mk em Dey cap

The only competition that zizou didn’t perform was at 2002 World Cup due to injury

From 1998 World Cup to euro 2000,2004 and his last outting for Le Blues in 2006 World Cup he was unplayable and single handedly carried the team on he’s back when necessary

That’s stuff that makes a legend. De bruyne is an exceptional player who I admire a lot but should never be compared to zizou. He should be compared with the likes of lampard,Fernandez, sneijder and few others not zizou

What do you mean?

French team were made of stars.

Was Lizarazu not a big star?

Deschamps had already won the champions league to the best of my knowledge.

Emmanuel Petit was already huge at Arsenal.

How could you make the French team then without being established.

You can say you did not know them but I knew them well.

Even the Monaco boys like Henry and Trezeguet were well established.

They did not need Zidane to excel. That was how good they were. They could drop the likes of Cantona and Ginola. Leave out Karembu and a host of big names from the starting line up and do well.

By the Euros, Zidane was playing with big names too.
the team was decent but the least expected to even make it to the semis let alone winning the competition

Stop been sentimental and face fact. All these na still to justify that de bruyne is better than zizou 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Prior to the World Cup 1998 French player that is world class was only Cantona. Dechamp was average at best at juve, it took zizou almost 2 seasons to start doing well at juve while desailly was just ok at Milan

If u like write thesis but all I started above is nothing but the truth

Zidane could miss playing two full games and get a red card in another match in a tournament and still win the world cup. The French team were stellar. Give de Bruyne the likes of Lizarazu, Thuram, Petit, Dugarry and others and see him remake history.

Remember France could drop the likes of Cantona, Ginola. Vieira, Henry, Trezeguet, Ba, Lama on the bench. That was how stellar the French team was.
oga that French team that won 1998 World Cup had no renowned player but made their names at the World Cup proper

Zizou as of then was beginning to find he’s feet at juventus after a season or 2 joining from bordeux, the likes of lizarazu, pires, trezeguet, Henry were in ligue 1 with marseille, bordeux and Monaco respectively

Djorkaef was a bench warmer at inter same as viera at Milan, petit was in arsenal then if I’m correct, thuram, and blanc with Parma and inter.

Deschamp was a regular at juve while dessailly was with Milan

The world class player they had then was man United’s Eric Cantona who was dropped because of he’s issues with the coaching crew and the French football federation

It was after the World Cup that almost every member of that squad moved to bigger clubs

The team was good but wasn’t spectacular on paper and the least tipped to win the competition

Even Henry and trezeguet were rookies then wey ikpeba Dey bench anyhow for Monaco

Villarreal are yet to find an agreement with Samuel Chukwueze over the extension of his contract.

The Nigeria international will enter the last one year of his contract with the Yellow Submarine at the end of this season.

According to Spanish sports newspaper AS, Villarreal and the footballer's representative have been sitting for a long time to try to extend the winger's contract, but these negotiations are not advancing as expected.

A couple of Premier League clubs notably Aston Villa are monitoring the situation of the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup winner.

If he does not extend his stay, Villarreal would have no choice but to sell the winger to one of his suitors provided their asking price is met.

Chukwueze is having the best season of his career since turning professional, with 24 goal involvements (13 goals, 11 assists) in 41 outings across all competitions.

The 23-year-old was the star of the show as Villarreal came from behind to defeat Real Madrid 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabéu on April 8, scoring two goals and was also involved in the other goal netted by Quique Setién's team.

Chukwueze has also been consistently linked with a transfer to Everton since the start of this season.

Contrary to reports in a section of the local media, seven-time African champions Nigeria will not be facing Congo in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.

By virtue of finishing first in Group B of the ongoing tournament in Egypt, Uganda set up a meeting with the Flying Eagles, the second-placed team in Group A, at the Cairo International Stadium, Cairo on Friday, March 3, 2023.

The Confederation of African Football conducted the drawing of lots on Sunday evening to determine the top two teams in Group B and the move was necessary because Uganda and Congo were level on five points each with an identical goal difference at the top of the group.

The Hippos of Uganda were drawn first which gives them first place in the group and Congo secured second place.

Five-time CECAFA U-20 Championship winners, Uganda reached the final in their maiden appearance at the U20 AFCON in 2021 but did not represent Africa at the World Cup because the tournament was canceled by FIFA due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Flying Eagles finished second in Group A of the U20 AFCON with six points after winning their group games against Egypt and Mozambique.

Group A winners Senegal will face the third ranked country in Group C and Congo will meet the Group C runners-up.

your first line in the last paragraph na wetin follow dey pain be for the guy matter

nwakali's ability as a footballer is highly exaggerated i swear. imagine folks coming here to rave on his long passes cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy. a skill set that is one of the basics for midfielders and centre backs, even much maligned english and man united cb harry maguire is very good at that. same goes to our own troost ekong who is not even among the top 5 center backs to wear the colors of the national team but very good with long passes from the back
