I like the project. Both Nigerians and the Nigerian leaders, when they behave well will bring respect to the green passport. If your leaders don't treat you with respect, others will not treat you with respect. The reason US is feared in the world is the action of their leaders to defend Americans even though they have their home problems.

The problem with social media is exposure to all manner of nonsense but they say you are wise until you open your mouth so let's say it has helped us to see the inner thoughts of people.

Everyone is holy until you give them money. Money is a revealer of character. This message is for EVERYONE of us.

If Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is lying, she'll lose and SP will win. If she's saying the truth, the Senate will win. Isn't it a win-win? Our leaders are not so different from us.

As a former governor is he not supposed to know what transpired in the Senate? None of his PAs or friends know what happened in the Senate? The Press Statement did not kill two birds .

The persecution and travail of Tinubu under Buhari exposed a lot of characters.
The press statement was replying a publication and that publication is on The Cable and other websites. I think the writers got carried away and added sexual harassment because of the current case. The reply has addressed what the Senator said and the misinformation or error by the media.

They can't. The politicians have taken over, that's why you are seeing the topics on FP. It's not an accident they have their minions here and the posts they want here. It is how they convince you to be on their side. On this matter, they forgot that Fayemi's wife is a feminist, so they chose the wrong person. The plan is to make Natasha look bad so we can judge her instead of judging this particular case. What should be scary is the allegation of Natasha that the SP threatened to unalive anyone who dared to protest against himhuh Nigeria is not serious for now, that's why we are seeing this action movie. One day, these actors will be a thing of the past but the new ones don't give any hope either undecided

Politics › Re: Seyi Tinubu Broke Fast With Muslim Faithful In Kano by papyjaypaul: 7:34pm On Mar 05, 2025
1. Christianity (Lent)

During Lent, many Christians fast for 40 days leading up to Easter. The nature of the fast can vary, but typically, it involves giving up certain foods or indulgences (like meat, dairy, or sweets). Some also engage in partial fasting, where they may eat only one meal a day or refrain from eating between certain hours.

2. Judaism (Yom Kippur and other fasts)

Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, involves a 25-hour fast, from sunset to sunset, where Jews abstain from food, drink, and other physical pleasures, including bathing and wearing leather shoes.

Other Jewish fasts include Tisha B'Av, a day of mourning the destruction of the First and Second Temples, and The Fast of Esther (before Purim), which is a shorter fast from dawn to nightfall.

3. Hinduism (Ekadashi)

Ekadashi is a fasting day that occurs twice a month for Hindus, on the 11th day of the lunar cycle. The fasting can vary in strictness, ranging from eating only fruits and vegetables to complete abstention from food and drink. It is meant to promote spiritual growth and discipline.

Another fasting practice is Navaratri, where many Hindus abstain from certain foods (like grains or non-vegetarian foods) for nine days to honor the goddess Durga.

4. Buddhism (Fasting and Monastic Practices)

In some Buddhist traditions, monks and nuns follow a form of fasting where they do not eat after noon until the following sunrise. This practice is part of their monastic discipline. The focus is on self-control, meditation, and detachment from worldly desires.

Some Buddhists also engage in intermittent fasting as part of their spiritual practices.

5. Medical Fasting (Intermittent Fasting)

Intermittent fasting (IF) has become popular as a health practice in recent years. It involves cycles of eating and fasting, where people may choose to fast for 16 hours and eat within an 8-hour window (16:8 method), or alternate days of fasting and eating. This is used for various health benefits, including weight loss, improved metabolism, and cellular repair.

Other medical fasts include water fasting (where only water is consumed) or juice fasting (where only fruit or vegetable juices are consumed), usually for detoxification or health reasons under medical supervision.

6. Islam (Ramadan)

As mentioned earlier, Ramadan fasting requires abstaining from all food and drink (including water) from dawn to sunset, not just skipping lunch. This is seen as a form of spiritual cleansing, increased devotion, and empathy for those who suffer from hunger.

7. Paganism (Seasonal Fasts and Rituals)

In some Pagan traditions, fasting is part of certain rituals or festivals, such as during the winter solstice or equinoxes. These fasts can vary from complete abstinence from food or drink to refraining from specific foods as part of a spiritual renewal.

Conclusion:

Fasting across different religions and medical practices can take many forms, ranging from complete abstinence from all food and drink to selective dietary restrictions or time-restricted eating. Each tradition or practice has its own purpose, whether it's for spiritual growth, self-discipline, or health benefits. The idea that Muslims only skip lunch overlooks the full extent of their fasting, which is more about holistic abstention and spiritual reflection.

For more than that.
What I know is, you have broken your fast before beginning it once you eat early in the morning... That's breakfast you just had.
Good, so we have arrived at the same conclusion. You call it breakfast, they call it fasting. You see that strong conviction you have that it is breakfast and not fasting? It's how they have conviction in what they are doing too. They are fasting the way their religion told them, you don't think it makes sense. When I read the lent post today, I saw some people who don't believe in fasting. I am sure some of them don't know Pancake Day and they will abuse them for feasting before Lent. To each his own.

That doesn't change the fact that you eat a early breakfast and also take your dinner. You only skip lunch.
Have you done a blood sugar testing before? Why do they ask you when last you ate?

In Buddhism
Vinaya (monastic rules) monks do not eat solid food after 12:00 noon, and then, not until breakfast following morning rituals. Lunch is the big meal, but ends at11:59 a.m.
So basically that’s fasting every day for 14-18 hours.
You are also looking at food alone. What they do is to abstain from other things aside food and this is common in other religions.

I’ve noticed the different spellings of Ukrainian President’s Zelenskyy’s name on Nairaland. I did a Google search and found out different international media outlets spell his name however they feel.

In journalism classes, I was told to refer to people how they prefer their names called (and spelled). As such, president Zelenskyy’s name should always be reported with a double y at the end.

Should be, "Eats brunch..."
Because once you eat anything any time past 12 AM, you've broken your fast.
Your definition of time is relative. Do you wake up at 1:30am to eat? They are using the weather, which is dawn to dusk, you are using the clock. Look at the picture below. Even my picture is not entirely correct because around the world, 6 to 6 is not standard. If you go to Sweden now, their dusk is 6:04pm, in Finland it is 6:37 pm, in Fiji it is 6:51pm, in Alaska it is 7:17pm, in Iceland it is 7:44pm, in Chile it is 8:39pm, in Taiwan it is 6:21pm.

Do you know the history of the clock and why we started using 24 hours? Didn't you see Chinese celebrate new year last month in February? Don't you know your forefathers also used the weather to tel the time and to practise tradition? It's always good to open your mind and learn. It's called perspectives
