Simple...I'll give you one, and it is the most important

Electricity costs 170 Naira to make one kwh. DISCOS are only allowed to let 20% of their customers pay above that.

The rest

1. Pay below that. A substatial amount don't even pay sufficent amounts.
2.40% don't pay at all.

Tell me, dem go make profit under those conditions...which in most part are enshrined in law by government?

Better stop trying to argue with me. If you ran a business under such condtions, would it prosper? Would you?
You are making me laugh because it is something like this that made the Power Minister announce that subsidy is gone.

Now I asked you a question there, I asked, Also let us know if they knew about these conditions before buying PHCN.

Nothing goes for nothing. You are making it seem like the people who went into business were blind. Okay, let's assume less than 20% of the consumers will pay, why did you go into that industry? What are you doing about it? Or you want me to think that at the initial stage, it will be hard to breakeven? Or isn't this the same way MTN convinced us that their high cost of per minute billing was necessary for them to recoup their investment until glo showed us it was a lie? Are DISCOSs facing competition like GSM companies? Tell me another story

Let me give you a good example. Cut off all electricity in Nigeria and wait for the results. Sebi they tried it in University of Ibadan, what happened? Electricity is essential service to people, in fact, it is national security. What we have are lazy and greedy investors who went in to cash out. This was why Fashola tried to make them enforce their contracts that they must provide meters, a point you are conveniently ignoring because of few bad customers.

https://www.nairaland.com/3787787/fashola-discos-nobody-forced-buy

May I remind you that UI and other federal Institutions complained that they couldn't afford the band A tariff so how can you give a product consumers cannot afford? Isn't that madness?

It stil boils down to the same problem, whether we change companies or not....DISCOS cannot operate at a profit under the conditions the government gives them.

And no, I don;t think you are ignorant, old man....where did you think I thought so?
Please list 5 of the conditions you think is holding them back. Also let us know if they knew about these conditions before buying PHCN.

Yes you can. Education abroad is not the same way we discriminate here. As long as you are able to convert and follow the structure of that country, you are good. Don't let your life be defined by the Nigerian construct of class. I salute all those who graduated with a 1st class but in the real world, no one will remember your class. We want to see what you can do. Even if you graduate with a pass abroad, don't let it define you. There's more to life than academic grades.

5 types of intelligence - academic is just one of them. I will not tell you not to study well but don't confine yourself to academics alone. Nigerians think only when you speak and write English well that you are intelligent. Then they see a Chinese and they are wondering how he can build bridges but they have forgotten English is just a language, a means of expression. It doesn't mean he who speaks Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba language is dumb and will not do well in life.

Enough preaching from me. sorry for diverting from your topic but I wrote this because it has held back many people from progressing home and abroad. They think what is from abroad is the best and what they have at home is the worst cry

All in all, a company has to make a profit. DISCOS are not allowed to make a profit...and thus our issues with power.

QED.
I don't know what you mean by allowed but I won't behave like I am ignorant. If you put investment, you will want return. Most of the DISCOs have no business being in the business, this will take us back to when and why GEJ sold NEPA. If I own a business, I will look for ways to expand my business, I will see disconnected communities as lost profit. The reason why the DISCOs are dancing disco is because they thought power will bring them money like telco. You think I don't know why I keep comparing them to GSM? Wasn't there NITEL before ? Isn't poor electricity a high cost of doing business for telcos? Are they working or not, despite the bad environment?

I don't condone illegal behaviour but how does it make sense that you are a DISCO but you didn't invest in infrastructure? You can't give people meters, you can't protect your transformers, you are blaming fraudulent customers. How na? I will now block 100 customers that can bring money because 20 of them are bypassing? Isn't that total loss?

Tell me another story. Electricity and communication are needs of man and it is not the type of service people can do shakara for like that, do the right thing and you'll make money. A lot of barbers will pay your bills if you give them light, many people will work from home if there's light. I always say that many of the people buying fuel in Nigeria have no business with it. Many of them are buying because there is no light. As a DISCO, if these people I say are always stealing light from my wires are willingly buying petrol, where is that money coming from? Isn't it time for me to find a way to take some of that share? Cunny man come, Cunny man go, na him pocket I want.

1. Ya think the discos are not doing anything about bypassing? They do. Guess what happens when they try? Violence.

2. And yes, there was 'bypassing' of GSM networks. Ever heard of cheat codes?

3. GSM and electricty are not the same thing. That's why it was easier to end GSM bypassing.
You think so? Didn't people try to vandalize network towers? What did GSM companies do?

Are DISCOs existing in a bubble? You are alleging that for every community that has been disconnected , it's because there was violence. Not true. DISCOs can disconnect where they know service is attacked, it's the people who will come to beg but we live in a time where DISCOs will disconnect you because they 'feel like' and punish mass population for few customers. Sounds like negligence.

You people should not put your trust in meters.

People BYPASS Meters. Yes. It happens. Giving everyone a meter won't stop bypassing. I mean, I once lived in a set of flats where one of the tenants moved out and left the landlord with a hefty bill...because he bypassed his meter. Landlord had to sort out issues with the local DISCO before he could move in a new tenant. Cost a lot of money.
This is what the thread is about. People bypass meters. So who should stop them? Didn't people try to bypass GSM networks in 2005-06? Did everyone else suffer for it?

You can't remove meters because people bypass them, how do you want to charge me? Estimated billing? Is that bypass or express pass?

Think wisely next time
And you think that makes sense? You don't know that is discrimination? Let's say MTN says only users of iPhone will use 5G and Android will use 3G and everyone else will use GPRS, will that make sense to you? The fact that I live in a village is not equal to poverty or don't you know some rich people live quietly in villages? You want to punish them for choosing to live there. Band A to Z is bandits, it is discrimination and a fraud too. People should have access to the same service as long as they are ready to pay for them. Provide service first, then bill, don't discriminate then bill. Btw not everyone in Band A gets 20hrs supply so the bandits fraud cannot hold water.

Billings should also wait till marriage.
Until after marriage, every outing, lunch dates etc should be split 50/50. Because the Bible says it is the duty of a man to provide for his wife, not girlfriend.
A girl with home training should not ask you for anything until you marry her. This was how it was in the past, if she came from a good home, they will tell her to return any gifts he gave her. He also came to her house, under supervision, she no de carry her leg go another man house. Men want to eat their cake and have it, then complain about expenses.

Only a hungry girl without father figure will bill you before marriage. It is an insult to her father to ask another man outside to take care of her needs without the dad's consent.

Ask it to give you references.

When i did my research AI helped me to locate websites that contained the information i needed, i did not use it directly for research.

AI can do hard tasks or crude tasks like comparing data, doing calculations, detecting trends grin

I used my brain for the research, but AI helped me with editing and finding info, which saved my time. And when i used it for editing, i constrained it, to only correct grammar without adding new text or rewrting my words, this way i maintain context, avoided lenghty explanations, and i also read it to ensure my context is retained. grin
Exactly what I did but when I went to the reference material, I realized it made stuff up. I agree with the rest of your comments but you have to be very very careful. Where you give specific prompts, it can still make mistakes. Like you, I can use it to give pointers but will not be lazy to do my research. I asked it, give me the exact section of the reference, AI will just make up quote for you and if you don't check, it's nonsense.

For misinformation, it can take sources that are not correct and give you as fact. I was trying to remember a speech OBJ said about MKO Abiola. AI made up information that they both went to UNILAG, afterwards it said, UI then it said OBJ was Ojukwu shocked

I will trust my excel or any datasheet than AI. It should only be used as the starting point, never for conclusion. I don't know if you know about a lawyer who used AI and it made up fake cases for the trial. Lawyer has been debarred.

I have been using AI to do a project for the past week and I'm so disappointed in how it makes up information and changes the information you give it. You can't cheat knowledge by doing research yourself. My fear is that we will have mass ignorance in the future where people will be arguing using wrong info of AI and this will cause more problems for the society.

All it takes for propaganda to become the fake truth is to start a lie. On the thread, I put EndSars report in northern states in Nigeria. EndSars has no starter pack and there is documentary evidence to this online. Even at the panel, this was one issue they had with it that it had no sponsors or leader. We should not forget that EndSars was about police brutality on young people and they responded.

This beef needs to be written about because people wondered why Obasanjo did not acknowledge MKO after he was freed from prison. He never recognized June 12 and depending on the side of history you are reading from, people think Obasanjo doesn't like you if he feels you are better than him. It's a surprise Tinubu got the presidency in his lifetime. I tell people that the change of national anthem is these our leaders using the country as a platform to settle scores because Tinubu changed the anthem that Obasanjo gave the country. Old men keep looking for what to spite themselves.

Obasanjo did not like MKO's closeness to the military, an institution he was a part of but I'm just looking at it as human beings in life. The race in life especially with our classmates and those we grew up with.

Akin Osuntokun told us it was a lapse but I don't believe that.

Politics › Re: I'm Ashamed Of My Yoruba Heritage - Man Declares Jihad On Yoruba Christians by papyjaypaul:
This sharia topic is politics.

Let me tell you why.

In 2027, Obi will run against Tinubu. Now what do you use to divide the South? We know most of the South South and South East has Christians and there are more Muslims in SW. So to divide the people further, they want to do what northerners do whereby they will call you a kafir for voting an Obi who is not a Muslim. SW and southerners are largely liberal but the election will not only be about who is from the South, it will be about who is from what religion in the South. In their thinking, northerners will not vote a Christian but they will be shocked because Obi got votes in the North. Our political elites are only interested in destruction for power and APC is an evil party that sowed the seed of destruction within us online. That was their MO in 2023, they want you to think Igbos are the problem but no one benefits regardless of your religion or tribe. It's all about power. 2027 will be a Muslim vs Christian vote and that's what APC wants. Guys, as Obi always ask, is salt cheaper for you at the market because you are APC or PDP?

They want Muslims in the SW to not vote for a non Believer, the same extremist mentality used in the North. Now, more Muslims in SW are abandoning Yoruba culture and becoming more Arabs than the Arabs. It's all a ploy, religious fanaticism and extremism. SW people don't care but they are gradually putting that extreme views into them so they become like the northerners who use religion to deceive their people. I hope Yoruba people don't disappoint the education Awolowo gave them. The reason why Yoruba people have never let religion divide them aside culture is EDUCATION. Think deeply and you see that the enemy is within, not outside. May politicians who divide us be punished for their evil agenda. I don't usually curse but a BIG AMEN because it's sad to see how things have become.
