There is no cake to eat and the one have it back. Let tinubu take all the appointments to himself. But that one that was constitutionally meant for southeast should go to them. |
*BREAKING:* *Senator Dr Tony Nwoye moves Motion over Marginalisation Of Southeast In Ministerial List.* *… As Senator Dr Tony Nwoye and South East Senators demands for balance in ministerial Nomination by President Bola Tinubu.* *…Demands for additional Two Ministers on the basis of Federal Character Act.* *…. as Senate President Senator Akpabio promises to speak with President Tinubu over the matter.* 7th July, 2023. Abuja- It will be recalled that out of the 48 ministerial nominees presented to the Senate, the Southeast contributed five representing 10% as against the 18% average for the five other zones in the country. The ugly situation of Ministerial nomination from the Southeast was formally brought to light in a motion tabled by Senator Dr Tony Nwoye, Anambra North Senatorial District who alleged that whereas all other zones in the country had extra nominations but that the Southeast became the exception. Senator Dr Tony Nwoye at Senate Plenary with 14 Other Senators from South East sponsored a Motion on Matter of urgent national importance on the basis of violation of section 14(3) of 1999 constitution as amended and section 5 (a) & (b) under part 3 of Federal Character Commission Act Laws of Federation 2004 in ministerial appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Senator Dr Tony Nwoye drew the attention of Senate on Section 14 (3) of 1999 constitution as amended which provides that ‘the Composition of the government of the federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the Federal Character of Nigeria and the need to promote national unity, and also to command national loyalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of persons from a few state or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups in that government or in any of its agencies. He went Further to state that Section 5 (a) & (b) under part 3 of Federal Character Commission Act laws of Federation 2004 which also provides that “As far as practicable, the appointment to the various categories of political offices shall be done on the basis of equitable representation of the states of the federation, FCT or Zones as appropriate using the relevant formula. The political offices concerned include (a) Minister of cabinet rank (b) Ministers of State..” In his motion on notice, Senator Dr Tony Nwoye cited Section 4 (b) part 1 of Federal Character Commission Act 2004 which Provides for proportional sharing of all bureaucratic, economic, Media and political posts at all levels. Senator Dr Tony Nwoye gave a graphic analysis of The Ministers appointed so far by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which is as follows: North West Geopolitical Zone-10 Ministers (3 extra Ministers), North East Geopolitical Zone -8 Ministers (2 extra Ministers), North Central Geopolitical Zone -8 Ministers (2 extra Ministers), South West Geopolitical Zone -9 Ministers (3 extra Ministers), South South Geopolitical Zone-7 Ministers (1 extra Minister) South East got 5 Ministers without any zonal ministers. In his final submission, Senator Dr Tony Nwoye opined that the appointment of ministers by President Bola Tinubu is not equitable and also not proportionate to have nomination of ministers at least 1 extra from each geopolitical zone with some geopolitical zones having extra three (3) Ministers while South East Geopolitical Zone has none on the basis of geopolitical zone. Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe in supporting the motion prayer Mr President to do the needful. In His remark, Th Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio promised to meet with Mr President and speak with him over the matter.

The National Convener of the group, Comrade Pascal Candle, who addressed Journalists in Awka, on behalf of the group, in reaction to the unveiling of the Ministerial list by the Senate in Abuja, on Thursday, described the unveiling as a welcome development. According to Comrade Candle, the ministerial list unveiled by the Senate came with different reactions in many quarters and pointed out that judging by the calibre of politicians and technocrats seen on the list so far presented, the group strongly believe that they will perform admirably and set the nation on the path of prosperity. He added that at this point in time, Nigerians need people who are educated, competent and who can efficiently to drive the policies of Mr. President as encapsulated in his Renewed Hope manifesto. The statement further read: "For us in Anambra State, especially within the progressive fold, the announcement of Barr. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye as a ministerial nominee is very significant considering the need to have a Minister from Anambra State that can galvanise the rank and file of the party and make APC a united and formidable force to reckon with in Anambra State." "We are very confident that Barr. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye will make Anambra State proud by bringing uncommon competence and focus into any portfolio President Bola Ahmed Tinubu decides to assign to her in the Federal Executive Council. As a former Presidential Aspirant on the platform of our great party, she understands perfectly the urgency of the task at hand in making sure that Nigerians begin to feel the impact of good governance in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. "The Anambra State chapter of the South East APC Young Progressives Forum will accord her all the necessary support she requires to succeed not just as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but as one of the Leaders of our great party in Anambra State. As we wish Barr. *Just In:* *As It Happened in Court Today, July 21,2023: STELLA ODUAH Vs EFCC.* *Stella Oduah in the Dock.* *_… EFCC docks ex-Minister, Oduah, others over alleged N7.9bn fraud._* The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday being 21st July, 2023 arraigned a former Minister of Aviation and outgone Senator of Anambra North, Senator Stella Oduah, before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on a 25-count charge. Oduah, who served as Aviation Minister from 2011 to 2014, is facing trial over an allegation that she laundered public funds to the tune of about 7.9billion, in connivance with eight others. Other defendants in the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/316/20, are; Gloria Odita, Nwosu Emmanuel Nnamdi, Chukwuma Irene Chinyere, Global Offshore and Marine Ltd, Tip Top Global Resources Ltd, Crystal Television Ltd and Sobora International Ltd. *However, the defendants, who were docked before trial Justice Inyang Ekwo, pleaded not guilty to the charge, when it was read to them in the open court.* The anti-graft agency, among other things, alleged that Oduah, who also represented Anambra North in the Senate and Odita, who was identified as her aide and the Company Secretary to Sea Petroleum & Gas Company Ltd (SPGC), had in February 2014, used their positions to transfer the sum of N1,629,250,000.00 from I-Sec Security Nig. Ltd account No. 2021756955 with First Bank Plc, to Global Offshore and Marine Ltd account No. 2022977296 also domiciled with First Bank Plc, which money they reasonably ought to have known that it formed part of the proceeds of an unlawful act. The defendants were accused of opening a naira “anonymous Private Banking Nominee Account No. 2024414450 with First Bank Plc and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 11(1) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 (As Amended) and punishable under Section 11(4) (a) of the same Act.” They were equally accused of opening a United State dollar “anonymous Private Banking Nominee account No. 2024414498 with First Bank Plc and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 11(1) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 (As Amended) and punishable under Section 1 1(4) (a) of the same Act.” Following the defendants’ plea of innocence to all the allegations, trial Justice Ekwo allowed them to go home on the administrative bail the EFCC earlier granted to them. More so, the court directed the EFCC transfer the case file to the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation to ensure diligent prosecution of the defendants. Justice Ekwo djourned the case till October 17 for trial. It will be recalled that though the charge was filed since 2020, the EFCC was unable to arraign the defendants owing to a petition they wrote to the immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN. Malami had urged the court to put the trial on hold to enable him to review the case file. However, he subsequently gave the EFCC the nod to go ahead with trial of the defendants. |

This was disclosed in a letter, marked NYSC/DHQ/PPRU/783/Vol III, which was in response to an inquiry made by a group known as the Concerned Anambra North PDP Stakeholders. The group had written to the NYSC, alleging that some officials of the agency colluded with Oduah to bury the truth. The NYSC, however, responded through a letter by the Director-General of the programme, which was signed on his behalf by the Director of Press and Public Relations. The agency said Oduah commenced her NYSC programme in 1982 but absconded. The NYSC denied colluding with the former aviation minister to hide the truth. The letter reads in part: “In response to your request, we wish to state that the facts of the matter remain as follows: Stella Adaeze Oduah was mobilised for national service in 1982/1983 service year and deployed to Lagos State. "After the orientation course, she absconded and never completed the national service. The consequence of this is that she is not qualified for the issuance of the certificate of national service. "Section 2 (1) of the NYSC Act makes it obligatory for every Nigerian who graduates to ‘make himself available for service for a continuous period of one year from the date specified in the call-up instrument served upon him.’” According to the NYSC Act, the four categories of individuals exempted from the national service are those who graduated above the age of 30, those who have served in the Armed Forces or the Nigeria Police for a period of more than nine months; those who served in intelligence organisations and individuals who bagged national honours before graduation. It remains unclear how Oduah’s failure to complete her NYSC escaped the scrutiny of agencies like the Department of State Services (DSS), which usually investigates ministerial nominees.

DKO: HUMANITARIAN EXTRAORDINIARE The Hidden Dots of Dr Kodilichukwu Okelekwe's Rise as a Generosity Icon By Elochukwu Ezeumeanya "Let the Poor breath! Don't suffocate them. It's our collective responsibility."(President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu , 2023). This charge by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has indeed been a brain child and the responsibility that Dr Kodilichukwu Okelekwe took upon himself from time immemorial to salvage the situation of the needy far and around him as follows: ✓Scholarship Scheme ✓Business Grants ✓Skill Acquisition ✓Building Homes for Homeless ✓Free Medicals for Communities ✓Empowerment Summits ✓Girls and Women Empowerment ✓Food Materials ✓And lots more "Chief Dr Okelekwe Kodilichukwu Boniface is a gentleman. He is psychologically very stable, empathic and a philanthropist for a very long time and which I can attest to because since in 2004 when he offered people scholarships randomly, my community Umudioka benefited. Even Prof Ezenwa's community- Uga and Oko also benefited. He came to these communities and demanded for the lists of the poorest of the poor which were provided and he gave them scholarships throughout their education. When he was speaking today, I saw someone who can boldly stand somewhere tomorrow to speak on our behalf if we in Anambra Central agree to send him to the Senate. I saw someone who can write his bills and stand to defend them convincingly. Therefore, when a Psychologist of my repute describes him as phycologically stable in all ramifications, for goodness sake, it is undisputable in any part of the world. And when a Psychologist of my standing states that someone is a gentleman, anybody who understands the meaning of gentleman already knows the credentials of such a person." (Professor of Psychology and king of Umudioka; HRH Prof Harry Obi Nwosu eulogizes Dr Okelekwe in testimonial of his philanthropy after Dr Okelekwe delivered a keynote speech at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka on the 14th of February, 2023.) Asides politics and business, the 2023 APC Candidate for Senate Anambra Central, Chief Dr Kodilichukwu Okelekwe (Ubom Nibo) is also a core Humanitarian with an enviable legacy over two decades through his Philanthropic organization - CHIAMAKA OKELEKWE MEMORIAL FOUNDATION (COM-FOUND) Etymologically, Humanitarianism refers to the philosophy or practice of promoting the well-being and welfare of humanity. It has been in Dr Okelekwe's nature to alleviate the suffering of others, particularly the poor, those affected by conflicts, disasters, or other unforseen contingencies. The empathic nature of Dr Okelekwe for the needy was birthed through his humble background which further gave birth to his philanthropic foundation COM-FOUND formally established in 2007 haven been into humanitarian works years earlier. "I grew up in a mud leaking hut; in a family where the poor called us poor; I went to the university with just N200, but nobody knew. They thought it was all rosy for me. My late mother Mrs Chiamaka Okelekwe was a petty trader who sold Ogili- lucost beans seasoning for soups. She sold all her wrapper and all she had which amounted to only N200 she gave me for my journey into the University. That was why I established my foundation on her name for her selflessness upon my life and anybody around her when she lived. I had to do menial jobs to support myself in school. Therefore, I don't give to make name or show off wealth. I believe that success in life can only be measured by the number of lives we are able to touch. I usually ask myself, how do I want to be remembered when I'm gone? And that's simply by the number of lives touched, which is my own measurement for success." (Dr Okelekwe enumerated on Prexfam TV interview on 11th June, 2022.) Dr Okelekwe through COM-FOUND also involves in providing aid and assistance to vulnerable populations, such as refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and communities affected by armed conflicts or natural disasters just like he donated N2.5million, Food Materials and numerous Scholarships to indigenes of Awba-Ofemili in Awka North during the 2022 flood disaster. COM-FOUND typically focuses on areas such as healthcare, food security, water and sanitation, shelter, education, and protection. The principles that guide COM-FOUND are rooted in Dr Okelekwe's humanity, impartiality, neutrality, and independence. Dr Okelekwe alleviates suffering, protect human dignity, and uphold human rights without discrimination based on race, religion, nationality, or political affiliation. Dr Okelekwe has recorded tremendous philanthropic strides through COM-FOUND since her inception which includes: ✓ Over 500 Scholarships to indigent persons across primary, secondary and university levels ✓ Offsets over 100 hospital bills for the sick ✓ Builds one house annually for both the needy and remarkable individuals.(Currently building this year's own at Nri town) ✓ Given out over 570 business grants ✓ Empowered over 1000 youths financially such as ASATU, CYON, AYF, Rotaractors, Students, Boys & Girls Brigade and more ✓ Organizes annual Empowerment Summit where notable Speakers nurture the unskilled. ✓ Hosts biannual Food distribution worth hundreds of millions where communities and individuals benefits. ✓ Empowered over 1000 Women and girls financially through CWO, Mother's Union, Girls Guild, and more Elochukwu Ezeumeanya, a Former Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Member, House of Reps, writes from Nigeria-Biafra Peace and Reconciliation Centre, Amichi.

Tajudeen Abbas reserves the right and prerogative to appoint his legislative aides as he so desires, we are however constrained to draw the attention of the Speaker to the fact that the said Hon. Okwudili Ezenwankwo (Ewepudike) is not a member of the APC in Anambra State or anywhere for that matter. “Chief Okwudili Nwankwo from Anambra State is a member of the opposition Party in the state PDP. This appointment as SA to Rt Hon Tajudeen Abbas is most unacceptable to us. “It is a great disservice to our great party men and women who staked their integrity and name for this party. It is not possible to work with people who do not believe in our renewed Hope agenda. It is not about appointments as it were; it is about the Renewed Hope agenda and President Tinubu’s agenda. “The brazen disregard and marginalization of core APC members in the South East and Anambra State will cause the party to continue performing badly in the zone and State, even as we call on the speaker to look in the direction of APC faithful in the zone for the interest of the party as we approach the 2025 Governorship Election in Anambra State and 2027 general election. “We cannot continue to empower our Opponents at the detriment of core Party men and women. “The practice of rewarding opponents of the APC in Anambra State should be stopped. We can no longer stand by and watch opponents of the APC get appointments from the APC-led Federal Government as it is tantamount to strengthening your opponent. This practice, if left unchecked, will spell a death knell on the APC in Anambra State. “We therefore appeal to the Speaker to rescind the appointment. “There are enough competent individuals, who are proud and loyal members of the APC in Anambra State to select from. It is time to help the APC in Anambra regain its footing. We will continue to provide every support to the APC political office holders at the national level as they discharge their duties of making our dear country prosperous and productive and one that meets the yearnings of the people,” the group said.

*Just In:* *COLLATION OF CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS CALL ON PRESIDENT AHMED BOLA TINUBU TO THWART THE ORCHESTRATED PLOT BY SEN. STELLA ODUAH AND HER COHORTS, TO PERVERT JUSTICE ON A N7.9 BILLION FRAUD CASE, WITH THE ACTIVE COLLUSION OF JUSTICE INYANG EKWO OF THE FEDERAL HIGH COURT,ABUJA.* *…The Group Urge President Tinubu To Revisit Abandoned Corruption Cases* *…Accuses Justice Ekwo of bias.* The National Coalition of Civil Society Organisations has urged President Bola Tinubu to address unresolved corruption cases and ensure their proper prosecution, most especially the case of Senator Stella Oduah before the Federal High Court, Abuja. While extending their congratulations to the new President, the group emphasised the importance of the Tinubu administration’s efforts in combating corruption and financial crimes. During a press briefing in Abuja, the National Secretary of the Group, Comrade Femi Osabinu, specifically highlighted the case of former minister of Aviation, Senator Stella Adaeze Oduah, who is currently facing allegations of fraud. In furtherance of our unflinching commitment to deepening the tenets of democracy and eradicating corruption in our society; we, the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Nigeria, wish to draw the attention of the general public to the well- orchestrated plot by Senator Stella Oduah and her co-defendants, to evade justice in a case of N7.9 billion fraud leveled against them by the Federal Government of Nigeria. We specifically wish to implore the President and Commander-in-Chief, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, to expeditiously intervene and prevent the pervasion of justice on the case. We vividly recall that the EFCC had since finished its investigation on the matter and filed the case at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on 17th December 2020. The case, with Charge No: FHC/ABJ/CS/316/2020 - FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA vs STELLA ODUAH & 8 OTHERS, was subsequently assigned to Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja; and since then, 2 years and 6 months after, Senator Stella Oduah has yet to even enter the witness box, talk more of taking her plea. Rather, we have watched with dismay, how Hon. Justice Ekwo had deployed every antic conceivable in legal jurisprudence to frustrate the arraignment of Senator Oduah. When the matter last came up for hearing on Thursday, 15th June, 2023, Justice Inyang used another diversionary tactic to prevent Sen. Oduah from being arraigned, claiming that he will not continue with the trial until he was certain and satisfied that the security and safety of the persons involved in the trial was assured. At the previous adjourned date of the case, Justice EKwo complained about receiving private messages regarding the case from persons whose identities he did not disclose. He equally produced a newspaper publication in court, in which he claimed that a corporate organization had threatened his life for his involvement in the case. But at the 15th June proceedings, which Sen. Oduah was present in court, rather than proceeding with the case, Justice Inyang resorted to feigning anger, and charging the EFCC to produce the persons invading his privacy and threatening his life in court on the next adjourned date. While the judge had adjourned the matter to July 17th 2023, it was not even for the arraignment of Sen. Oduah, but for the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to report back on the owners of the corporate organization that published the article that threatened his life, and for the EFCC to fish out the culprits. Osabinu said they believed that taking decisive action in this regard will provide a clear direction for the country over the next four years. Senator Oduah is standing trial alongside eight others on multiple charges, including conspiracy, money laundering, and maintaining anonymous bank accounts with First Bank Plc. He said, “As a not-for-profit non-governmental organisation comprising patriotic Nigerians, our unwavering commitment to ensuring that public funds allocated for the betterment of our citizens are used judiciously and accounted for necessitates our active involvement in the face of this blatant alleged misappropriation of our collective wealth.” Osabinu described it as a significant disgrace to the anti-corruption campaign of the APC-led federal government and a blemish on the judiciary’s reputation. He stressed the international community’s keen interest in observing the outcome of the matter, citing the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and global anti-corruption agencies as key observers. Osabinu called on President Tinubu to direct the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to ensure the proper arraignment of Oduah for the prompt resolution of the fraud charges pressed against her by the federal government. Furthermore, he urged President Tinubu to initiate an independent investigation into the reasons why Senator Stella Oduah and her co-defendants have not been brought to trial for nearly 30 months. He said this is despite the EFCC concluding its investigations and filing the case of conspiracy, money laundering, and maintaining anonymous bank accounts against them at the Federal High Court in Abuja. |

*NEWS* *Peter Obi never directed us on who to vote as Speaker – Afam Ogene.* June 7, 2023 My attention, and that of the generality of Labour Party Members-Elect, House of Representatives, have been drawn to an insidious claim, by Fifth Columnists, to the effect that National Leader of the Party, Mr. Peter Obi, and his Vice Presidential Candidate, Senator Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, directed members on who to vote for as Speaker “Nothing can be farther from the truth, as the allegation is a lie from the pit of hell,” the Labour Party members-elect said, in a statement signed by Hon. Ogene, leader of the caucus. “On my honour, if Mr. Peter Obi as much as gave any such order, we would have gladly carried it out, and offer a robust defense of the decision as a Party, but in the instant case, he never did, so why the splitting of hairs? “In fact, the insinuation that Obi, Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party(LP), is coercing Members-Elect of the House of Representatives to vote for a particular candidate in the Speakership race is a lie which is beneath contempt. “Yes, as a Caucus, we met last night, but not at Mr. Obi’s behest. The notice of meeting was sent out by the National Chairman of Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure, and Mr. Obi was only invited as National Leader of the Party. After virtually all 27 Members-Elect present at the meeting had taken turns to speak, Mr. Obi, who was the first to leave because of another engagement, advised members to ensure, as much as possible, that they are united in arriving at a decision regarding who to vote for as Presiding Officers. Is this a crime, or an advise too weighty to offer? “Even in advocating this unity of purpose, Mr. Obi never mentioned any candidate by name, only electing to remind the members-elect that Nigerians place huge expectations on the Labour Party to dare to be different, in conduct and stance on national issues. “Everything must not be about what you can gain as individuals, but rather your place in history as you begin your sojourn in the National Assembly,” Obi had said. As a matter of fact, we make bold to reiterate that, not once, throughout his about 15-minute speech, did Mr. Obi mention any aspirant by name. On the contrary, he urged the members to continue talking amongst themselves, under the guidance of the National Chairman and the Caucus Leader on the issue of Speakership. “In deed, for the records, Mr. Obi had in his first official interaction with the LP Members-Elect – soon after they collected their certificates of return in March, 2023 – urged them to decide for themselves who to vote for,” Hon. Ogene said. In his words at the time: “You are the ones elected, so the onus rests with all of you, to interface with others to choose your leaders. As for me, several aspirants, both in the Senate and the House have been trying to reach me, but I prefer to allow you people take your fate in your own hands.” |

On The News: Youth TownHall Meeting: Burundi President, Evariste Ndayishimiye & Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba Charges Nigeria Youths on need to be proactively involved in Continental Development and Governance. …I admire Nigerian youths, for their drives and creativities, Says Burundi President. … encourages Nigerian Youths to remain united and mobilized for the only war worth fighting, the war against poverty. By Paschal Candle. Abuja - President Evariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi and Nigeria Ambassador to Burundi, Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba on Tuesday 30th May 2023 in Abuja Nigeria Capital charged Nigerian youths remain United and to prepare to take over political leadership and be proactively involved in African Development and Governance, saying there is no other time for them to do so than now. The Burundian President and Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba made these remarks while addressing Nigerian Youths in a high level Townhall Meeting held in Rotunda Hall, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja. The event was organised by the National Youth Council of Nigeria in conjunction with the National Youth Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) & Nigerian Embassy Burundi under the able leadership of the Head of the Nigerian Mission, Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba PhD. In His Opening Remark, H.E Amb Elijah Onyeagba thanked the Burundian President for finding it worthy grace and Chair the TownHall Meeting. He also thanked the President for youth inclusiveness in the Governance of Burundi, thereby championing the greater development of our youth within the East African economic bloc and Africa at large. The Nigerian Ambassador also used this medium to thank H.E President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for his inaugural speech where he promised more Youth participation in the executive appointments in the country. Addressing the youths, the President of Burundi, H.E Evaristé Ndayishimiye thanked the organisers of the event most especially H.E Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba for his commitment and diligence in ensuring that Nigeria and Burundi continue to have good international relations in all areas of the economy and encouraged the Nigerian youths to continue waxing stronger in their zeal for greatness in entertainment, arts, education, technology and sports. In His remark, the Burundian President said, Today, the page of war has been definitively turned in Burundi. After realizing that without peace there is no development, and without development there is no peace, young people who were once mobilized in combat are now the best peacemakers and spearheads in the implementation of national community development policies. I am delighted today to see that the echoes of the efforts of the Government of Burundi resonate throughout the African continent and particularly here in Nigeria, a country with know-how and youth empowerment. With Reference to His Country, The Burundian President said, To achieve this result in Burundi, we have organized civic and patriotic training sessions throughout the country and for all segments and categories of the Burundian population. We are very pleased with the awareness and awakening of the young people who are breaking with old mentalities and who are now engaged into development activities. President Ndayishimiye went further to say that African demography is a double-edged knife; if young people are poorly supervised or abandoned to themselves without hope for tomorrow, they will easily be drawn into delinquency and crime, and therefore easy to be instrumentalized in the destruction of their own country and their own destiny by crooked political actors. We also know that the poor economic situation pushes some young people to take to the sea at the risk of their lives in search of a better life in the West. Thus, to prevent wars and resolve conflicts in a sustainable manner, a culture of peace and tolerance among young people should be promoted through peace-oriented education. Job creation and other supporting programs then become critical shields. Whenever the opportunity arises, I appeal to policy makers to give youth a chance, because the socio-economic empowerment of young people is a response to the problems of poverty and insecurity. There are no more effective weapons than youth in the fight against poverty and in the prevention of conflicts. In His closing remarks, Burundian President revealed his admiration for Nigerian Youths. This, he said, “If there is one thing I admire in Nigerian youth, it is your drive and creativity. Moreover, the musical, artistic and cultural industry driven by Nigerian youth is a textbook case on the continent and in the world.” Your know-how in these areas would be a great asset for those who want to invest in Burundi, which has enormous potential. I would like to end by encouraging you to remain united and mobilized for the only war worth fighting, the one against poverty. African solidarity must now serve the development and economic independence of our countries. We must form a common front if we do not want history to repeat itself on our continent. You are the future and the time to act is now. I urge you, dear friends, to move from words to action and to embody the Union so preached and desired by our Pan-African elders. In conclusion, Indeed, to realize the dreams of the African Union, African youth find themselves at a turning point in the history of the Continent: it is essential to define a common ideal and make our diversity a transforming force. The high point of the event was the presentation of the Award of Youth Champion of Africa to the President of the Republic of Burundi and African Icon Of Youth Empowerment to Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba by the National President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Amb Sukubo Sara-igbe Sukubo which was followed by a group photograph with the youths. As we celebrate Children's Day, I join parents and guardians across our country to wish our children the very best. Children are our future and leaders of tomorrow. They are blessings and unique gifts from God. As we celebrate, let me reiterate that our children's rights and dignity must be protected. There have been disturbing reports on social media of children subjected to physical harm and abuse by those whom children are entrusted in their care. As parents and guardians, we must help the government in protecting our children from all forms of physical and domestic abuse, to ensure that offenders are made to face the full wrath of the law. As the leaders of tomorrow, our children are our future and must be given utmost priority so they grow up to lead our country on the right path of morals and ideals of Nation building. Happy Children's Day. Sen. Margery Chuba-Okadigbo, Board Chairman, NNPCL.
