Those costs (8k) are actually low. If you can't afford that and you're trying to go even lower you will not have much luck with the VO when they see you bringing cheap bills.

The US President made a declaration few days ago which a friend in US shared with me; something about seriously cutting down on visas for countries with over 10% overstay rate (not sure what it is called but Nigeria ranks very high in this regard)
This may explain it.

All the best guys.
It does not explain it. A declaration is not anything put into law. They are planning on doing something, but haven't started. Any denials recently have no relation to that declaration, because nothing has been put into law.

I don't think Texas is the best option anymore. Look at the past 30 pages of this thread and see that a lot of people going to Texas are getting denied. It's not a coincidence that the last question she asked was about state before denial

You converted a Visa issued for vacation to a medical visa. So it may be difficult for you to get renewal even if your wife is not pregnant because you might be tempted to convert it again later on. After all a lot can happen in two years.

Converting it skips the process check. The Embassy would want to see the hospital and ensure that you are not accepting discounts. That's why many are encouraged to return for a medical Visa after being issued a Visa for visiting/vacation.

You can travel to other places you mentioned and reapply when you are ready to give birth.

Has anyone on this forum with a valid USA visa ever gone to renew for childbirth and then had it denied?

As it had already been stated:

WHY DOES BIRTH TOURISM ONLY EXIST FOR WHITES?

Mason White, Staff Writer|April 14, 2019
A Florida firm named “Miami Mama” organizes a legal way for Russians to come give birth in the U.S., yet for other ethnic groups it’s not so easy.
It’s called “birth-tourism,” and this is why it’s not okay.
In August 1492, Christopher Columbus left Europe in search of a new world for a better life. He found land that was occupied however and didn’t have established borders, land that white men would come to control who would bring other ethnic groups to, land they founded called America.
Over 500 years later, the people who still possess a strong influence in controlling birthright citizenship in the U.S. are allowing for a clear and easy path for those of their own color, while from a foreign land, to come here and have children that will be granted automatic citizenship, but for minority groups it’s not that simple.
In the last decade, so-called “birth-tourism” has skyrocketed, especially in Florida, with many of the mothers to be coming from Russia. And many are staying at Trump properties during their visit, according to a 2018 NBC News report.
Miami Mama was raided by the FBI in June 2018 and an employee was arrested and convicted of making false statements in filling out passport applications for these “birth-tourists,” according to the report.
President Donald Trump has not been shy when it comes to expressing his beliefs about this issue, saying explicitly that the U.S. needs to end naturalized birthright citizenship altogether
citing “anchor babies” coming through the Mexican border, but is silent on Russian mothers-to-be trying to do the same thing.
It’s no question that President Trump takes issue with immigration and so called “anchor babies” coming from America’s southern border, but at the same time he appears to turn a blind eye towards people of white nationality who wish to create a potential American future for their children by establishing U.S. birthright citizenship for them.
These seemingly unequal nuances at such a superior level are very dangerous. It sets a precedent for, and a quiet acceptance, of inequality on a national scale.
Furthermore the President’s harsh rhetoric on people of color but so silent on those that aren’t, amplifies this danger.
The U.S. Constitution states that all people born on U.S. soil are naturalized citizens.
But certain leaders with high power are trying to hinder that right for minority groups, while allowing it for others.
While that is special treatment for some, it’s harsh inequality for others, and it’s not in line with America’s true values.

They don't care about Russia because they are rich and staying in trump properties, spending a lot of money. Most of us on this forum are always looking for ways to get the cheapest deal in the cheapest state and just a few pages ago people were trying to figure out how to use possible insurance after one good story. The Russians are not doing that.

Apparently, I had the initial quote from henrico doctors hospital and had all my prenatal test done there. I then read drafricana’s post about henrico and visa renewal. At the POE, I was sent to secondary inspection. The IO that attended to me asked what hospital I wanted to use, gave him the henrico doctors hospital result and all. He then ask if that is the main hospital I wanted to use, I then mentioned to him I had changed my mind and showed him Dr Moore’s letter and all that I am aware of the insurance more reason I had to change my hospital. He replied saying; if you had told me you wanted to use this hospital, I would have send you back to Nigeria because they claim self pay whereas they use insurance and taxpayers money.
So, Mothers if possible kindly avoid hospitals with self pay price or rediculous bills. He accepted the Maryland own and stamped me in. I then asked if I wouldn’t have issue with the hospital, he said provided I pay all my bills.

How much was your bill for the hospital in Maryland?

Good morning all. I have been a silent member and would love to give back (if possible)
I joined this platform in 2017 to find a hospital to have my baby in( I already had my visa in 2016 and disclosed to the VO I was going to give birth. I, however, had PROM and gave birth in Nigeria at 29 weeks, and eventually lost that baby when he turned 9 months).

I got pregnant again, and gave birth 9 months after and used the previous b1/b2 visa to travel in 2017. I disclosed at the NY POE and wasn't searched or questioned. In total, I spent about five minutes at POE and travelled to Florida to have my baby because I had family there. I spent about $12,000.

In March 2019, my husband and I applied for dropbox together in Abuja and got the 221g letter. We scheduled an appointment for Thursday, April 11, 2019.

We were a little scared as 99.9% of the people were being rejected and coming out with pink papers. The AfricanAmerican lady VO would reject about 10 people before the other VO's would complete one interview. Anyways, I do not remember much, but this is our transcript (not 100% verbatim fyi).

VO: Hello, may I have your passports
Hubs and I: Good morning, yes please (hands them over)
VO: Do you have relatives in the US?
Hubs: Yes, my brother lives in the US
I: My aunt also lives there
VO: Have you visited the USA before (types on her desktop)
Hubs and I: Yes we have severally, and even had our baby there in 2017
VO: How many kids do you have?
Hubs: One
I: We had two, but lost our first. He was, however, not born in the USA
VO: Sorry about that.
VO: What do you do?
Hubs: I work as a xxxxx
I: I work as xxxx in xxxx
VO: May I see your previous hospital bill. How much was it?
I: (Handover all bills, with all the adjustments, discounts, zero balances and Itemized bills) Our previous bill was about $11,600
VO: How much do you intend spending?
I: From our correspondence, about $14,000 (she didn't ask for any dr/hosp. correspondence, even though I had it there)
VO: So you intend to use a different hospital?
I; Yes
VO: Asks for account statement (We handover both from our various banks)
She goes through them thoroughly, and types for a very long amount of time.

VO: (Hands us a white paper) Your visa has been approved. Please pick up your passport in three business days.

In the two hours we spent, every other person had pink papers.
I want to thank @TripleKmama and @mrshappy who answered and supported all my numerous questions and requests.

What I learnt from all this is try to be as honest as possible and follow your instincts on things, especially bills.

I want to say thank you for providing me with all the research I needed and Good luck to mothers and fathers applying for Visas.

Yay very happy for you!

I’m actually not pregnant now but we want to reapply. Do you think we should reapply together?

VO's are trained to presume that you intend to overstay your visa. If they don't think you have strong ties to home you will be denied. When you apply with your husband with you that's just one less tie to home. Your chances are better applying seperately

My husband and I got denied US visa based b the $19k discount shown on the Itemized bill from WHMC. We have gotten a revised Zero balance letter and want to reapply. Should we reapply together or individually?

You should find a hospital that does not show such large discounts for bill. VO's dont like that
