Business To Business / How I Used N10,000 Business Plan To Access $5000 Grant by patrick1234(m): 11:55am On Sep 20, 2021
How I used N10,000 Business plan to access $5000 Grant

In 2015, when I was starting out to building my business, I had very little capital and I was struggling to raise money for my business. I could not rent an office, nor employ staff and I could not grow the business until I had to settle down to develop a business plan for my business which cost me about N10,000 to put together. My intention was to use this business plan to raise money. My first knock was my family and friends but this option did not work because most of my networks then were government workers and could not afford to raise me the money. I am the only entrepreneur in my family. Like the adage says, what you don’t have, you can’t give.

Friend, I know your business might be in this position now and you don’t know how to go past this stage. I am glad to let you know you are not alone. I received a lot of chats like this every week of people that needed to raise funds either to start, grow or expand their business.
One thing that is generally common to this set of people is that they don’t have a plan and they are not ready to be patient to raise their funds.

In my own case in 2015, I used the N10,000 business plan I put together to apply for the Tony Elumelu Foundation grant. But that year my business idea was not selected. At this point, most people quit fundraising because of disappointment and I have been there, I know how it feels.

Yours might not even be a grant, it might be your rich uncle that promised you and he disappoint you. It could be anything. You must not let disappointment get at you. It was Robert Schuller that says Tough Times Never Last but Tough People Do. I read this book back to back when I was an undergraduate student at the Obafemi Awolowo University. So, I have learnt how Not to let "No" get at me.
To cut the long story short, I applied for Tony Elumelu Application the second time with a slight tweak in my business idea and business plan and that was it, I was selected in 2016 and I received $5000. That was the beginning of a big breakthrough for my business.

Friend, the question to you today is that “Do you have a Detailed Business Plan for your Business idea or Your current business venture that you want to grow and expand?”

I tell you, a lot of people don’t have a detailed plan and the patience to raise funds and see their business idea launch out. But they can be patient enough to work in a company for 35 years and start again to look for money to start a business.

You must not be sold on that falsehood; you can start a side business today even though you are working full time in a place. Your dreams are valid, and if you wait enough for it, it will surely come to pass. I have options to go into paid employment, but I knew what I saw and I had to wait for it. Today, my business has 7 direct staff and over 10 indirect staff. My joy today is that my business feeds over 17 families.

Friend, what can you see about the future of your business idea. Can you create a compelling vision that is bigger than you that will bless humanity and make our world a better place and reduce unemployment in our society?
When we sell our business plan services to people, some people will still say they don’t have money, even when we run promos.

Our N5000 independence promo is currently on. You can click here to check https://www.dayoadetiloye.com/2-weeks-n5000-business-plan-independence-promo-2021-is-here/ it but some people will still say I have no money. Look, the Holy Book even says, “Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”
It is a dangerous zoon to be in a state of I don’t have. You must have something. That is the reason why the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer.

So, if you cannot order for our N5,000 business plan,

Here is a business plan outline that you can use to work on your business idea.
· Executive Summary
· Business Description
· Products and services
· Market Analysis
· Competitor Analysis
· Sales and Marketing Plan
· Operational Plan
· Management plan
· Financial Plan and Projections

This is a simple outline to start with, and there are more complex outlines than this.

Welcome
Business / 4 Dangers Of A Single Income Source And The Remedy by patrick1234(m): 8:45am On Sep 17, 2021
With no doubt, majority of people suffered financial constraints and break down in this trying time of COVID–19 Pandemic simply because they do not have an additional income sources to backup their financial strength. It is no news that it is quite dangerous for anyone to have just one source of income, especially at this time.

In this article, I will be sharing with you four (4) plausible dangers and effects of having only one stream of income as an individual. And of course, the various ways and things you can leverage on to escape this dungeon and expand your revenue strength to a multifarious level.

DANGERS

1. Poverty
There are enough statistics to show that people who live on a single source of income are at the greatest risk of poverty. No matter how much your job puts in your pocket, it cannot eradicate poverty completely if it is still the usual single income source. Complementing your main salary is one of the most sustainable ways of buoying up your financial baseline.

2. Debt
No matter how huge the pay is, your job will not adequately cover all your expenses now and in the future. In-person, someone coined an acronym that the word JOB stands for “Just over broke.” For instance, a person who relies on only one stream of income which usually comes at the end of the month would have spent almost all his money on expenditure before the month ends. You would do well to look for what else you can use your spare time to do in order to generate income and avoid spending the rest of your life paying the debt.

3. Unexpected loss of Job
If the high rates of unemployment and mounting job losses have taught us anything, it is that nobody’s job is safe. Unfortunately for most people, their only source of income is their job, which can be a risky way to live. You must become so financially secure that you forget that it is payday. You have residual bills, why not have residual incomes?

4. Depression
Depression is a common and very serious medical illness that affects how you feel, think and act. It causes feelings of sadness, and sometimes, a total loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed. Psychologists agree that one contributing factor that is likely to increase your risk of depression is your personal finance. Often, poor financial health leads to poor mental health which leads to even worse financial health. You need to know that single income source is not only a threat to our financial wellbeing, but also to our mental wellbeing. People who struggle with debt are more than twice as likely to suffer from depression.

REMEDY

One of the wisest millionaires in the world, Warren Buffet, said: “Never depend on a single income.” Hence, building multiple streams of income has become a necessity. The first step to building your financial strength is building your revenue strength. As the saying goes, “never put all your eggs in one basket?” It is so crucial to the continuation of cash flow that you have another income stream that you can rely on if one fails.

The tools to create multiple streams of income are all around us in the 21st Century. We have more access to information, people and opportunities than ever before. Unfortunately, people use all these as a form of distraction. You have the capacity, time, gifting and talent to create multiple streams of income. The more income streams you can create, the more secure your financial life would be and the more wealth you would create.

The richest people are people with multiple streams of income. Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Richard Branson, Elon Musk, Aliko Dangote and Mark Zuckerberg started with one stream source, but have grown their businesses to meet varying needs over the years.

Below are the various things you can do to escape the dungeon of single income source.

1. Utilize Your Skill Set and Talent
Research shows that almost every individual with a single income source failed to develop their talent or acquire necessary skill(s) that will enable them to diversify and thrive in times of economic hardship. Making money from a service depends on the type of skill you have and how much people value it. For example, if you are good with English, you can start an English lesson in your neighborhood for kids writing Jamb lessons.

2. Start/Own a Business
Many Nigerians augment their income by owning businesses that they operate both offline and online. The type of business you should start depends on your passion and existing skill set. If you love baking, for example, you could consider starting a home-based cake or brownie business. Online businesses make money through advertisements on the websites, commissions, or selling a product or service. Whatever your skills are, there are at least a few home-based and online business ideas that would work.

3. Become a virtual assistant
Virtual Assistants are people who are employed to remotely work from home or in any location that is not a typical office place. They perform a wide range of tasks for online entrepreneurs who need help. Depending on the job, duties can include anything from responding to emails to managing social media, creating word documents, or answering online inquiries.

4. Buying and Selling
This involves petty trading of consumer goods. It’s time-tested and still works quite well for many people. It is often better to start by selling things you are used to. It could be dresses, shoes, jewelry, smart phones, tablets etc. Your first customers will typically be your colleagues at work and members in church.

5. Create an online course
Depending on your skill set, you could consider creating a course. With a platform like WhatsApp, you can create an online course on nearly any topic you can handle with expertise and charge as much as you want.

To conclude with, the concept of multiple streams of income simply entails developing additional income inflows to complement whatever income you are currently receiving. With multiple streams of income at play in your financial life you can more conveniently attain your financial goals. You can easily allocate the resources needed for each goal to a different stream, thereby reducing the pressure on taking from one source for all needs and wants.

However, to do that, you need to begin to identify opportunities around you that you could plug into to generate multiple streams of income. This usually starts with an audit of yourself to discover what your passions are, and if they can be exchanged for money. The audit includes looking at the available time you have that can be used to pursue another income opportunity. Once all the requirements have been put in place you can proceed to add another income stream and as many as you can manage. It is pure wisdom not to put all your financial eggs in one income basket.

Business / Should I Write My Business Plan Or Outsources It To A Professional? Your Guide! by patrick1234(m): 9:49am On Sep 16, 2021
One question many business owners have asked over the years is, “Should I write my business plan or outsource it to a professional? Here is a quick guide. If you are looking for funding either to start or to grow your business, you will need to develop a business plan.

Creating a business plan is a business hurdle that many entrepreneurs seem to dread. Should you do it yourself or do you hire someone to do it for you is the question we are asking here. How do you get it done quickly without spending too much money on it? Will, what you do yourself be adequate to get funding? Can you actually write a business plan that will achieve the purpose why you actually needed one in the first place? Honest answers to these questions are critical lest you end up missing a critical funding opportunity due to a poorly written business plan. In actual fact, the question we are considering here is a major source of confusion to so many people, and just in case that is your situation, relax and read through this piece as you will find good insights that will answer that question and put all the agitations to rest.

So, should you write your business plan or should a consultant do it for you? My straightforward answer is, “Yes” and “No”. This is because, as I said earlier, it actually depends on a number of factors. Consider the following points and attempt to situate yourself truthfully and sincerely within the cases presented. If you are honest, at the end of this article, you will be able to come up with a clear-cut answer to the question, “Should I write my business plan or outsource it to a consultant?”

Consider writing your plan by yourself if:

1. Your goal is actually “knowing how to do it”.
The truth is that you CANNOT write a great, award-winning, grant-getting, investors-wooing business plan on your first attempt. Most likely, that isn’t going to happen. But if there are no pressing issues, or some important projects that require the urgent completion of the business plan, you can afford to take your time to write it yourself and keep reviewing it until you have something near perfect. Writing your business plan this way can take you up to 3 or 6 months – and that is if you are highly disciplined and you give it a lot of attention. Some real-life example I know took up to two years! Just like any other skills that we learn, the more you write, review and re-write your business plan, the better you get at it – and this is a good thing.

2. You are not under the pressure of time for the delivery/submission of the document
As I said earlier, if there is nothing urgent calling the business plan to be ready quick, it is not such a bad idea to attempt writing your business plan by yourself.

3. You understand a bit of accounting or you have a close person who is an accountant and can help you through the financials
The easier part of a business plan to attempt by laymen (especially those who believe they have some knack for writing) is the write-up / text part. Sadly, for most people, that isn’t the only part that completes a business plan. A complete business plan does not only consist of the write-ups, it must also include a very solid financial plan that is sensible to investors, business partners and funding institutions. Without the financials, your business plan is as good as useless – and this aspect of the business plan is usually confusing to anyone without accounting background. So, if you are an accountant, you typically already have the most basic training to deal with what we know to be the hardest part of writing a business plan. Alternatively, if you are not an accountant but have someone very close to you who is, and willing to assist and support you, then you’re at an advantage.

4. If you have the time to read, study and do your research that helps you to learn the nitty-gritty of writing a plan
What you need to write a good business plan goes beyond a mere ability to write. A good business plan is almost always a product of quality research. If your business plan will not end up putting your business in troubles occasioned by falsehood, your facts and figures CANNOT be based on assumptions.

5. If you already have a flair for writing
As said in some of the previous paragraphs, having a flair for writing is not all that you need to write a good business plan, but it is definitely an advantage. So, if you are someone who loves writing naturally, I will be last person to discourage you from writing a business plan for your business because a very strong interest / ability to write is one of the most basic requirements for writing great business plans. If you have a very strong writing skills, you can become a very good business plan writer if you add the other elements which I have discussed in this article to your writing skills. Don’t forget, I am still trying to answer the question, “Should I write my business plan or outsource it to a consultant?”

6. If you do not feel fine about paying someone else to do it for you
This sounds funny but I have included it because I have met quite a number of people who felt it isn’t worth it paying someone to write a business plan for them and they decided to embark on the journey of writing one for themselves. Although this is not a very good reason for you to decide to write a business plan yourself. Some of the other reasons we have looked at are good reasons but this one is not. If your reason for wanting t write a business plan yourself – and you are deficient in all of the other points considered earlier, you will definitely frustrate yourself trying to write a plan – and where you are able to come up with something, I do not need to be a prophet to know that what you’ll produce will be a bad plan. All that being said, if you want to write your plan by yourself because you strongly feel you shouldn’t be paying anyone to do it, then it is not such a bad idea to go ahead and write your plan as that might end up saving you a few hundred bucks.

7. If you do not mind learning through your own mistakes
Mistakes is one of the critical ways that we gain experience in different fields of endeavor. If you are positive on the number one point under this section, and you do not mind learning through mistakes, then you should give writing a business plan for your business a trial, and see how it goes.

In the next section, I will highlight a few cases under which you are strongly advised to outsource your business plan to professional writers or consultants, but I will only give an outline because I believe those points are self-explanatory.

Consider outsourcing writing your plan to a professional if:

1. You cannot give the time it will take, or you’re essentially a busy person
2. You need some speed and you do not have a very wide space of time to get the plan written and ready for the purpose for which it is needed
3. You are seeking for funding and a lot of money is involved – you should be gambling or playing “smarter than thou” in this case!
4. You have written one before that didn’t work or failed
5. You don’t mind paying someone else to do the job
6. You want to minimize errors as much as possible

In conclusion, I will leave you with this thought. At best, the process writing a plan for your business should not be at either end of the spectrum, but squarely in the middle. In my experience, plans that win funding come from a true collaboration between a skilled consultant (or professional writers) and the business owner. A business planning consultant can act as a coach, first assessing the job to be done, and then recommending/assembling the best team to get the job done. The business plan should be a compilation of work between the vision and goals of the entrepreneur and the technical understanding, expertise, as well as the research and writing abilities of the business planning consultant. The consultant should effectively and professionally collaborate with the business or idea owner, talk about what is best suited and needed for the business (every business is unique in its own right and prevailing circumstances and issues that are peculiar to that business and the business owner must all be part of the inputs into the design process for any business plan), and use all the resources available to get the work done as quickly and cost effectively as possible. It is the consultant's responsibility in the process to take all the pieces and make the final plan into a readable, accessible document that will stand up to investor/lender’s scrutiny.

How To Become A Business Consultant in Nigeria

Business consultants are involved in improving the structure and productivity of businesses. If you have acquired some level and years of experience in business, you can easily turn this expertise and experience into a career as a business consultant.

A business consultant basically provides business owners with resources, advice and planning designed to improve a business's performance and efficiency. They are contracted professionals that help businesses identify problems, implement solutions, and reach goals. They provide the skills and expertise that business owners need but lack. They deliver answer to questions that business owners can't figure out on their own.

If you're an individual with expertise in business, you can actually create a lucrative career for yourself in business consulting. Follow the steps below to set up a career as a business consultant in Nigeria.

#1. Identify the problems you can solve: As you begin to establish your consulting business, start by looking at what value you can provide to your clients, of course this has to do with your area of expertise. Make a list of the problems you can comfortably help your clients solve. Then come up with services that will provide solutions to the problems.

#2. Decide how you will work: There are a variety of ways you can approach your work and decide on the best way to deliver your services. You can decide to:

Will your services involve teaching small business owners how to do something on their own?
Guidance and counselling. You can develop your services to guide and coach small business owners in establishing and running their businesses
Services-based. Will your services involve you actually doing the work for your clients. Services like; business incorporation, creating business plans, writing business concept notes etc.

#3. Acquire training and certifications: Due to the type of services you will be providing your clients, you might need to undertake some professional training and acquire special certifications. For instance, you can get trained in project management, There are so many professional bodies you can easily get affiliated with in Nigeria. Others include; Institute of Management Consultants Nigeria, Institute of Chartered Entrepreneurs Consultants of Nigeria and others like these. This will give you some level of proficiency in services you offer and will also enable the public have faith in your services.

Being a member of the Institute of Management Consultants in Nigeria bestows on you certain privileges. And this includes an increased recognition and competence level accepted by both public and private establishments looking for professional advice.

#4. Defining your target clientele: Once you know what problems you can solve, the services you'll offer and how much you will charging for your services. It will be easier for you to determine the target audience who will be most likely to hire you. So, start by outlining the characteristics, qualities, habits ( spending habits and tendencies) and demographics of the person who will represent your ideal target customer.

#5. Put up a business plan: A resource like the www.dayoadetiloye.com will help you take a more strategic approach to starting as a small business consultant. You'll need to consider factors such as funding, goals, and competitors if you're going to do it right.

If you're ready to get started, you can check out our business plan summary on on consulting services, or simply contact 08105636015

#6. Register your company: Even if you are a business of one, you should set up a legal entity for your business so you are not personally liable for your business. Many small business consultants choose to create an LLC ( Limited Liability Company) business structure. And this is easily achieved by registering with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria ( CAC). To do this, visit the CAC official website www.cac.gov.ng or contact 08105636015.

Education / 25 Business Ideas For University Students In Nigeria by patrick1234(m): 6:30pm On Jul 29, 2018
Ever been seriously broke in school? If your answer is yes, you're not alone. Imagine the combination of being in school and being broke. Stressful right? Seeing that the Nigerian system doesn't really facilitate working and schooling at the same time, life can be at the very best hard for university students, and frustrating at worst. Given the alarming rate of unemployment of college graduates in the country, setting and establishing financial goals while still in school is a wise decision.

There are so many options for financial empowerment available to help support university undergraduates while still in school and also to help determine a future source of income, once they become graduates. I'm going to take you through a number of options that can be useful to empowering you as a university student.

Here they are:

1. Tutoring. Are you skilled in teaching? Then you may want to deploy your skills into tutoring other students. By starting a private tutoring business, you can offer coaching sessions in the evenings and late night when college students are often up reading and studying. You can advertise your services online and also using social media especially, or you can simply solicit referrals from students in campus.

2. Freelance writing. By now I'm guessing you know that most entrepreneurial moves usually reflects the unique skill set of the entrepreneur. So, if you're a skilled writer and you've got expertise in a particular niche, you can start taking freelancing jobs. You're at an advantage because you may not need to be in any required location to take freelance jobs. There are so many sites and blogs in need of freelance writers out there. So you can take your writing skill and start generating income for yourself.

3. Graphic design. With the increasing number of internet users in the country, graphic design has taken a centre stage in the capacity of creating new websites, creating blogs, graphics online. Graphic design plays a huge role in web designing for the creation of banners, logos, and other similar materials needed to maximize website design. As a student in Nigeria, you can generate a lot of money from a single job. You can also do offline jobs like designing logos, business cards, brochures for organisations

4. Ushering. A single ushering job can fetch as much as #30,000 in Nigeria. This job is a very lucrative one for students. Just sign up for ushering jobs online that is relevant to you and you can start making your money while running your education

5. Hair making. Another great way of making money while in school is making of hair, whether you're a guy or a lady, so long as you're skilled in hair making, it can be gainfully used to make money and generate income. Tell people by word of mouth what you do. Move into the female hostels and market yourself. Advertise using social media platforms and you're guaranteed to make lots of money as a student.

6. Sports training. If you're into sports and you're very good at a particular sport. You should probably consider becoming a sports trainer. You can organise a fitness club and enroll members who are supposed to pay some dues as a registration fee and other required fees before they can be registered. Imagine the kind of money you can make from this business. In a society where most people absolutely love sports and are passionate about it

7. Blogging. This is a very good business for students to launch. And it is highly recommended for all students as it can expose them and increase their knowledge about a wide range of ideas and topics. You can make lots of money blogging about interesting topics that are educative, enlightening, and topics that meet specific needs of the readers. All you need is your laptop and access to the internet.

8. Event planning. Students can also go into event planning business. This is another easy way you can make money. Most events usually fall on weekdays, so this is recommended for students as it is flexible and relatively easy to startup and run.

1. Negotiation skills. Every fresh graduate needs to have essential negotiating skills, it will come in handy in many professional situations, especially when it's time to ask for a raise or secure a great job offer. To lay a good groundwork for salary negotiations, you will need to arm yourself with ample data. Find out how much, on average does someone with your education skills and years of experience gets paid in your industry. Find out from your network, ask your mentors about salary expectations and research online to determine exactly how much you're worth.

2. Technology skills. Another very important skill to arm yourself with as a fresh Nigerian graduate is technology skills. Note that, having only a solid profiency of Microsoft office certainly isn't enough to impress. Go online and find out about other technology skills you need to covet to give you a better edge over other candidates and also make you indispensable to a potential employer. Irrespective of your own unique profession, you can learn how to code by getting certified in Google Analytics and also learn more about the basics of SEO and SEM marketing. Doing an in-depth study of digital marketing is sure to set you apart, so seek to enroll for any course in digital marketing. Ninety percent of the world is now on the internet, so to help set you apart and make you a valuable asset to your organisation, take digital marketing seriously.

3. Soft skills. Also very important: Do not ignore your soft skills. Although you may otherwise feel that your ability to carry out specialized job requirements is sufficient to land you a job, you will need to also keep in mind that having soft skills are relevant across all professions. So don't ignore soft skill as they are just as essential as any other business skill. Team work, people skills, effective common action, leadership skills, planning, task performance, and so on, are soft skills that are not only vital in many work places, but they also mean you will stay around much longer too. This is the reason why many prospective employers always look for these skills in their prospective candidates. They may be soft, but they certainly have the power to land you your dream job. So take them seriously. If you don't have certain soft skills, work on building them early. NYSC / Things You Must Know And Do Before, During And After NYSC by patrick1234(m): 10:31am On Mar 28, 2018
There is no sooner time than now! If there is anything you must know right now as a student who is still in school, before his NYSC, or as young graduate who is currently enjoying his National Youth Service year or as a fellow fresh graduate who has just finished his NYSC. Believe me, those things are the things you must know and do before, during and after your NYSC. I will list them after the other for your better understanding. Also put to mind, that for every article you read, what matters most is the actions you take afterward as a result of your understanding from that article. So let’s begin!

First and foremost, let us talk as brothers, you can refer to me as your fellow and paddy who has passed through the university and served his fatherland before wasting another five years before he found an article like this which helped him unlocked his potentials and changed him to a better and more successful man. Now I am here to talk to you and guide you as my one and only beloved brother or sister who is still in school and who will be going soon for his NYSC.

I want to do my best to make sure that you make the best of every moment and scale through more smoothly and successfully than I did. To get it right without a waste of time simply because you have the privilege of reading this. I will try and analyze the things you must know and do as an undergraduate while you are still in school just before your NYSC.

As a student Before NYSC: Sometimes you will feel you are not lucky enough not to have been given the course of your choice because you think that some courses of study are far better than some others. But trust me, your success does not depend on what course you are studying. It rather depends on who you are and the possibilities in you that you explore. It depends on your ability to offer your environment what it demands. Let me tell you this quickly, she’s got endless demands.

If only you can offer what your environment demands, there is no limit to how successful you can be. This is the reason why you should become an excellent student; a great observer, one who has keen interest in his/her surrounding. It is from knowing what your people need that you can go ahead to offer them values that they are willing to exchange for money. School is not a place where you just come to pick certificate. Remember the old saying, “What’s worth doing at all is worth doing well.”

As a student, you have made it this far but yet your focus must not be shaken. Let me list some few points you must take to heart. Firstly, rediscover yourself, you must be aware of what potentials and possibilities you have. You have to maximize your time in school, you are not here only to pass through the school, you should allow the school to pass through you as well. Do not be like the proverbial ‘triangular student’. A student that only goes to the class, library and hostel. Add more values to yourself by discussing whatever you have learned in class with your colleagues, share knowledge and respect other peoples' thoughts and plans. Read ahead of the class to enable understand the lecturer better.

Things You Must Know and Do Before, During and After NYSC
Things You Must Know and Do Before, During and After NYSC

The best method to lead others is to read more than them. Do not limit yourself to class alone, attend seminars, symposia, etc. to widen your knowledge in your area of studies and beyond. Be an obedient student, in class and to your lecturers. I've found out that in school the easiest way to pass excellently well is to be obey all instructions. Respect your time table and do not take for granted your practical, attendance and assignments. More importantly, learn business skills while still in school. That is one place where a lot of present day graduate cum ex-corp members got it wrong while we were in school. Being a student does not stop you from running a small scale business. There are countless examples of successful multi-millionaire business men today who started as undergraduates. Enough said on that!

Now a Corp Member: Corper shun! Are you happy? Are we good to go It is not easy to have come out that pretty well from university. A journey of four years or so. You are now a graduate! Congratulations! I quite understand the many thoughts, expectations, plans, perceptions, etc. that will be in you right time. But I make bold to tell you; NYSC is never meant to suffer you or aimed to take you this farther from your family and friends. I know very well that there are challenges and that there are fears, but in the midst of it all, I can assure you of victory. All you need is to follow the footstep of those who have gone ahead of you. Like they say, ‘fake it till you make it.’ So here are some of the most important things you must know and do during your NYSC. Firstly, you should see your placement as an opportunity to know more people and learn from them. Learn their culture and values, it is an opportunity you may never find again. Create more friends and gain more connections, you will never know who you might need tomorrow or who might need you or your services in the nearest future. This is also the best time to apply for jobs, attend business conferences

NYSC / 10 Techniques To Get A Good National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Placement by patrick1234(m): 10:21am On Mar 28, 2018
‘Congratulations pal’ on the completion of your studies. You are highly welcome to the job market which constitutes the workforce also known as the labour market. This can be a favour market to you, depending on how you wish to see it and work towards it. Done with studies, ‘Now it’s time to plan how to get a good National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) job which is also known as your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).

Your Place of Primary Assignment is the organization you are posted to as a corp member aka corper in Nigeria for a full year of active service. It serves as your first post-institution job experience which makes it an important section of your Curriculum Vitae (CV) and this shouldn’t be taken lightly if you want to get the best out of it.

It is worthy to note that there are several National Youth Service Corp job opportunities out there, only if you can get the correct information at the right time and apply it in the best possible way.

The following benefits are what you stand to enjoy during and after your service year experience in a reputable Place of Primary Assignment:

You could be retained in the organization after you have completed your year of service to continue working with a higher pay, now that you are no longer a corp member.
You might acquire some training from the organization free of charge or at a subsidized rate, since you have contributed your man-hour quota during your service year with little or no payment.
You could get fast connections to other jobs; related to the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) job you just concluded due to your exposure to relevant skills.
Your Curriculum Vitae (CV) would get an additional value from the experience you skillfully gathered and projects you partook during your one year of service.
Your first set of referees could be from your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) which might be changed later as you acquire more years of experience in other organizations.
You have opportunities to be an award winner or an impact maker as a corper with your Community Development Service (CDS) at your disposal. This should be added to your standard Curriculum Vitae (CV).

21 Things that can help you write an Excellent Application for Tony Elumelu Foundation Grant

I was privileged to participate in the first year of the application but my idea was not selected. But the free Workbook we produced at that time, up to 25 people that used it won the award.

The 2nd edition, we wrote another idea still based on our business consulting industry and it was selected and more than 50 people that used the Free workbook were also selected.

The 3rd selection- More than 100 people that used this Free e-book were selected and we give glory to God.

Of recent, I went for a fellowship programme, A Train-the-Trainer programme organized by Inspire Africa in Sapele, Nigeria. Here I was trained on the secrets of winning grants & fellowship competition. I was trained by Mene Blessing, a mentor, that have won over 14 international competitions. His teaching at the Inspire Africa has really changed my orientation on how to write a winning project or idea that can attract funding.

Here are some insights that can help you:

1. Position yourself as the grant giver. What exactly does this organization want to achieve.
2. Study all the call for application information and understudy what they are actually expecting.
3. When you want to start writing your application, come up with their own terminologies and use it.
4. Study the organization website in and out.
5. Study the Alumni selection and see ideas of people that have won before and see if there are ways you can connect with winners.
6. Look at how they communicate their ideas and do likewise.
7. Study how they tell their stories and come up with your own stories.
8. Tony Elumelu is looking for ideas with social impact. Ensure you communicate that in every stage of the application.
9. I learnt recently from my grant mentor, that most ideas will get the funding at the emotional level, i.e. what feeling can you communicate that will ensure your idea is selected.
10. Writing application is about communicating your idea/project on paper. There is a communication of champions.
11. There is a vocabulary of winners. Study successful winners and you will see how they communicate their ideas on paper.
12 In Tony Elumelu Foundation Grant application, there is no idea that cannot win. It depends on your communication.
