James Ducker: Manchester United agreed to increase the guaranteed sum for Frenkie de Jong by £8.4m and reduce the add-ons. It remains to be seen if Barcelona now use that higher up-front fee to help partly cover the cost of the £17m in deferred wages.
Barcelona should do the needful...

Fact? But fdj himself hasn't come out to say that's the sole reason na even his agents, His contract expires in 2026, His deferred salary is £14m from the restructured one in the pandemic, there are to be added to his normal salary not jam-packed into one, What we are trying to avoid is his loyalty, performances, title bonusess that will increase widely every season till it expires, The deferred payments are separate chief
The thing be say, both of us won't even agree on this matter as it's logical for both parties to get their best interests, Let's just see how it ends
Barcelona are trying to reduce their wage bill, yes or no?

Do you think the likes of Lewandowski, Pedri, Fati, Auba etc won't look at FDJ's wages and want to at least be at parity with him? It the reason Laporta wants to offload him but he isn't keen on leaving not until the money he is owed is sorted out. It's simply drawing inference from the facts before us...

Kilishihunter:
Chief, these two are non mutually exclusive na, Fdj's seasonal incoming wages are our wagebill ish while transfers are installmental payments, Our board hasn't said anything yet on forgoing his deferred payments
Hopefully all parties come to an agreement
The fact is that the deal is tied down due to the money he is owed. The both clubs have agreed a fee...

I don't think FDJ will decide to stay at Barca even when it's obvious Barca want him gone. The only rational take here is that he wants to get paid his money before committing to a move...

United optimistic over De Jong deal’
Sky Sports News’ Melissa Reddy in Melbourne:

“Manchester United have been very optimistic that the Frenkie de Jong deal will happen.

“He has been Erik ten Hag’s priority signing. It’s been such a long pursuit, so tricky to negotiate and deal with because a lot of the problems with the deal don’t stem from United’s end, they stem from Barcelona’s end and their financial predicament. De Jong is owed about £14m in deferred wages from Barca and that needs to be taken care of.

“We know that United have a £72m agreement in place with Barca for the midfielder.

“Now, there’s been a lot of talk that he doesn’t want to go to United and his preference is to stay at Barcelona, and that’s not really true.

“His preference was to stay at Barcelona. They want to sell him because they need him to take another pay cut. He doesn’t want to, and he shouldn’t really. He negotiated what he negotiated, and he’s given encouragement to Ten Hag.

“There is no club who would get so far down the line in a negotiation if a player didn’t want to come. United have gone all in on this and been so patient. They’ve dealt with a lot of hurdles that aren’t; really within their control, and they’ve still pressed on and pursued him.

“It’s a deal they do feel they will get over the line.”

No need to Dey vex

No be me be de Jong wey Dey reject your club

Thank you
Where has it been reported that Barcelona intend to pay De Jong from the from fee they'll receive from Manchester United?

At least it's been reported that he is owed $17m which he doesn't intend to write off...

He has a running contract with Barcelona thus if he angles for a move he is going against the terms of the contract hence will be sold based on his demands however, he won't be able to hold Barca liable for his money since he went against the contract to demand for a move...

As things stand, Barcelona want him out but they're not saying anything about the money he is being owed...If he stays, you guys have to continue paying him his high wages and eventually will still pay the $17m...I understand Barcelona are trying to cut down their wage structure so, he is more a pain in Barca's ass...

You come here sounding like you're doing us a favor even when it is obvious that you guys can't wait to get him off your books anyway, I don't blame you, it's Nairaland where a grown man will twist logic to suit his ego...SMH!

You expect him to come out and say he wants to leave when he is still being owed $17m?

And as for his contract, did he put a gun to your directors head when they offered him offered him the contract?

I think to get the best out if this squad you posted, a 4-1-2-3 might just be the best bet.

DDG
Shaw
Varane
Baily
Bissaka
Martinez
Bruno
De Jong
Rashford
Martial
Sancho.

ATTACKING:

I really think Bissaka would be in the first team purely due to his defensive capabilities. On the attack, man u could switch to a back three of Varane, Bailly and Bissaka while Shaw goes forward in order to give better attacking options.

Rashford, Martial and Sancho would maintain a constant attacking presence in the opponents third while Bruno and Frenkie constantly try to pick up on the mistakes and redistribute to our defenders in order to give our forwards some rest and pull out the opponents before the next wave of attack OR, they keep distributing the ball in the opponents half while allowing our back 3 to get closer to the halfway line in order to contribute in the attack and in the same stroke, allowing our forwards find space in between opposing defenders.

BRUNO WILL HOLD, De Jong will roam.

DEFENSIVELY:

As per training, the forwards will be the first line of defense, pressing high. They will be joined by BRUNO and FDJ in order to try win the ball in their half. A 5-2-3 that allows Martinez to meld with the defensive line as one of the CB's while Bruno and FDJ's role becomes predominantly box to box. This setup allows Martinez to make outliers and assist in the pressing. Man to man marking should be employed and our fullbacks should hug the touchline in order to minimize damaging offensive runs by opposing wingers. ( This is why there's AWB on the right... DEFENSIVELY, Dalot is trashy).

Omo, typing no easy cry

You can substitute FDJ, for VDB or ERIKSEN... I don't know who's coming that's why the midfield is setup to allow as much flexibility as possible. Bruno is definitely a starter until I see otherwise.

No insults please, tell me what you think
afr.odoc, elle.xy, ep.h12, patrickmuf, ovo.P, Christo.Bam, Leyq.ute
At Barcelona, FDJ is interested in the Busi role, he feels that's his best position so, I don't see him being too happy with the idea of being pushed up...

Bruno hold? Impossible, Bruno just doesn't have the positional discipline rather he is the one who should roam whilst someone like Eriksen holds...

AWB won't start for ETH, the coach has come out to say he wants to create a balance on both sides thus AWB won't start...

It will be interesting to see what ETH does with Garner because he has shown he can at least deputize for whoever is the team's deep lying playmaker...

From all indication, FDJ wants to join Manchester United but he can't come out to say it since he is owed $17m by Barcelona...

Barcelona are trying to be smart by forcing him out because they don't want to pay the money or at least they want him him to make some concessions which is ridiculous...

How will you sign Raphinha for over $70m and are after Lewandowski who will cost between $45-50m and you expect De Jong to write off the $17m he is owed?

Barcelona should simply pay him off or be ready to keep him...Barcelona is holding down the deal and not FDJ as they're trying to have us believe...

I couldn't help but realize that some people here actually want VDB to flop, just so at the end they'll say they're right.

You people just never learn and it's so funny grin

It's just 1 game with Liverpool's C team and let's not pretend that we didn't park the bus in that second half - which of course is the ideal thing to do.

Wether you choose to believe it or not, there's nothing to be really excited about with these crop of players, except we do more in the TW.

And what's even more disturbing is those ones Yabbing Nunez for that miss.

When it counts the most, we'll see the teams that'll turn up.

I'm not sorry to say, but United is not back.

And for those of you crying about Bruno because he was criticised, just know that we haven't even scratched the surface yet - of course until he repents.

Your so-called favorites were fielded against team C, while VDB's team had to park the bus and play against team B and A. Now do the maths.

Or should we talk about the fact that the second half was more interesting than the first that was garnished with our first 11 tongue
I really don't understand why supposed fans will hope one of our players flop just so they can come back to say "I told you so"...

My position alongside many others here is that Bruno has to tweak his game to adjust to ETH's style else he'll be benched but trust those who read meanings to every post to twist it to mean that Bruno will be benched for VDB...They are blind to the clause as usual all for the sake of agenda...

Garnacho is still a fair distance off in my opinion. He needs to play the full Reserve this season and maybe the odd Europa league appearance.

Chong's time is almost up as i hear he is about to go back to Holland. Quite unfortunate cos he is one player who would have been well suited to ETH's style. He presses quite well and he has decent speed and technical ability. He just never had any good coaching right from the academy.

i believe Garner will be a regular squad member this season. ETH will give him the opportunity to displace McFred. It is now up to him to seize the opportunity. I have noticed that as he has moved up into more senior football he has become less adventurous with his passing.

Tuanzebe is at the age where only regular football is of any use. If he won't start we should sell him both for the club and for the player.
I really had high hopes for Chong and Tuanzebe...I am quietly rooting for those young lads to displace some of those so called senior players.

I really hope they make an impression on ETH...

If you are in tune with what is being reported, you'd have read that it's the fee + add ons that's dragging the deal alongside the reported wages Barca owe De Jong.
