eph12: This Martial we've seen in the last two years not given any serious coach any reason to be in a top team starting eleven. How you manage to sneak him in especially with how critical you're of OGS ehn.
I can't see where you mentioned that it's either Rashford or Martial here I had responded earlier that it was a choice between the both of them and quite honestly, I have personal preferences for Martial even though Rashford can do just as well there. |

elampiro: Your argument is flawed when you said Jones should not have started. You guys are the one who blames the coach for not sticking to winning formation 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 ,etc but playing 4-2-3-1 which doesnt work. Now he plays his working formation, you are talking about Greenwood. When has Greeneood become Messi?
Against Chelsea, Lidelof was taken off for Martial. Are you saying we should have started with one less defender? It is best to start a match normal, situation might call for the abnotmal. I dont know anytime SAF had to start two or three players at the back. It was always four. Even Carrick had played CB to complete the back three.
Mangala is not even a good tackler to start with. Our best bet is a 4-3-3 especially against small teams. The 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 should only apply when we are up against the big team. Back to the game, playing 3 CBs against Sheffield United is stuff of mediocrity. Greenwood is not Messi and please don't make my point about him, I said we'd have been better off with Greenwood or Lingard starting in place of Jones and that's my annoyance with Ole. He left our Midfield exposed to the pressure of Sheffield because they simply had more bodies in the centre. If you're okay with such negative lineup against Sheffield United, I am not and never will be... |

And that's why I said you guys are misunderstanding the point, or typing with emotions.
The best team in the league, or in a tournament is whoever comes first, or carries the trophy.
Man Utd has quality players than Leicester, but currently, Leicester is better than them. In other words, Rodgers have managed to set up Leicester in a way that brings out the best in the team whilst Ole has failed to do same at Manchester United...You have just consented to my stance on the quality of players and role of the manager making the quality obvious... |

When Leicester carried the league, will you say Man U, Man City, or Liverpool were better than them that season?
Let's stop typing with emotions. If this season ends with Leicester being on top of United, it means they were better
If you beat me when we meet, and lose your remaining games, and I win mine but lose to you, how does that make you better?
Currently(emphasis on the word), Leicester is better than Man Utd, and Sheffield is better than Spurs. We are talking about the quality of the respective teams in a bid to understand the role of a coach in the performance of a team. Let me ask you, before Rodgers joined Leicester last season, if given an opportunity assuming you're a coach, which club will you join knowing too well the quality of their respective squads, Leicester City or Manchester United? You can replace Leicester with Sheffield United and Manchester United with Spurs and answer the same question... |

elampiro: Try to stay on one line of argument? You are getting yourself confused and widening the argument for no reason?
You asked when Ole went out for all attacking and I gave you an instance of Chelsea's match. I know too I have seen others, but I cannot keep record. I am a very busy man.
Greenwood starting the game might even have been worse. When SAF started Chicharito, he went on ghost mode on the pitch 80% of the matches (except may be playing against sluggish Chelsea defenders at the time). But when a game is hard and Chicha is brought in as an xtra man in the dying minutes when everyone is tired, his speed and swiftness became a huge advantage.
On Willian, you are still getting it wrong. Defenders and goalkeepers can sometimes attack and score but it is not their primary responsibilities. Apples and oranges...Against Chelsea, when Martial was brought on who was taken off and what was our front line like? I am telling you that taking off Jones who shouldn't have started and Pereira off for Lingard and Greenwood as well as pushing our fullbacks forward is the boldest move Ole has made since he was appointed. For a start, I would have started either one of Greenwood or Lingard in place of Jones and I believe we would've been better for it. Talking about Greenwood, it is funny you're comparing him to Chicharito. You said "might" meaning you're not certain how it would have panned out so, why the Chicharito comparison? Why not use another striker who has gone on to be a success here like Rooney? It's not like Greenwood plays like Chicharito sef. You need to understand that football has changed, it has move on from the days when the primary responsibility of a defender was to defend. Nowadays, attacks starts from the back, Ederson and Alisson are renowned for thier dangerous long kicks from the back. if a defender's primary responsibility is to defend then Mangala would still be at City. |

Some people are funny sha. In their combined 11 of Leicester and United players, they have Pereira over Wan-Bissaka the big question is why? The same people who say Wan-Bissaka is doing great with us and his primary responsibility is defending are picking Pereira over him because Pereira is very good going forward...I dey laugh.
My combined 11...
....................... .De Gea.............. Pereira....Lindelof.....Maguire.......Chiwell .................... .......Ndidi........................... ....... ...Maddison............Pogba....... ...... James......... Vardy......... Martial........
On the bench... Kasper, Wan-Bissaka, Soyuncu, Shaw, McSauce, Tielemans, Rashford, Greenwood.
In the starting 11, we have 6 players against 5 for them. You might argue why I choose Lindelof over Evans but the truth is with Ndidi in midfield, any CB will look good.
In midfield, you might even choose to play McTominay/Tielemans over Maddison since Pogba is starting. |

odizeey: Bro, we beat Leicester but I think they possess better players than us. There was a time you would compare mane and martial and nobody will see it as anything. But if you try it now then fit slap you. Maybe it's the coaching improving them o, I don't know. But a player is judged by current form. And if Rodgers continues for decades, improving those guys and making them perform better than ours then they are better than ours. As it stands now, those guys would have higher numbers than us if FA decides to do a top 50.
Na two legs everybody get. Nobody get three leg. No permanent best. Na current best. Why then do big clubs fire their managers when they don't do well? It's simply because they evaluate the quality of players they have and in the end decide that they should be doing better and that's the case here. Player for player, we are better than Leicester unless you think otherwise which a combined 11 should suffice. |

elampiro: In our cup match against Chelsea, Lindelof was removed for Martial when we went down 0-1. Ole has done this a few times, sometimes it didnt work. Again, vs Shefield United, it was more of a formation change.
It is not the first time we have changed formation or sacrificed a defender for a forward player. We had 5 defenders starting playing 3-4-2-1.
I think you are rigid to your beliefs about what is wrong with United. Try to reason wide I can't remember. The question is simple, do you think we'd have fared better if Greenwood started in place of Jones? And when you say it was a formation change, what formation were we playing when Martial, Rashford, James, Lingard and Greenwood were all on the pitch? What is your take on Williams goal, should he have joined the attack in that instance or stayed back expecting the strikers to score? |

elampiro: “The lack of front movement from Martial, Rashford and James is a joke,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“It really is an absolute joke. All game. Nothing at all from them.
“Manchester United’s midfield is poor but you expect better from that front three.
“If you asked Chris Wilder to swap McGoldrick and Mousset for Martial and Rashford, he would say no.”
“They weren’t even good out of possession, they weren’t closing down Sheffield United but they have quality.” Neville is talking about joke, what an irony. In the same game we saw the front 3 come alive in the 2nd half not like we replaced them with Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez so why is no one rather talking about the fact that Ole goofed with his team selection and tactics in the first half or is it because he is a legend? I am certain that if Mou was the coach, Neville would have had other things to say. |

elampiro: How e no go tire you when you dey put the blame on the wrong people. You want midfielders to ceate chances for the forwards. Against Shielfield United, all chances were created by forwards in just ten minutes Please watch the 1st and 2nd half again. In the first half, the forwards were left to do it all on their own. In the 2nd half, our fullbacks pushed higher up the pitch same as the two midfielders and our centre backs were stationed just around the midfield area making the field compact and helping us recover possession in more dangerous areas. We had more bodies in attack thus it was more difficult for Sheffield to keep their shape. It's what was on display, go and watch the match again and don't just depend on flash score for who scored or who assisted to draw conclusions. |

codedguy1: I really still don't understand this "one team is better than the other" it really dosent make sense to me.
What if on paper everybody knows that a team A is better than team B but team B players are ready yo work and run for 90mins doing the simple effective things that can get a result while team A because they feel are better are playing big man football on the pitch.
If team B is getting results then they are better than team A. Abi no be so.
The table dosent lie ooo. At the end of the season positions will show how good you are. You can't play 38 games, end up in 10th position and be claiming that your squad was better than the team that was 9th or 5th.
Right now Leicester is better than Man u. Simple. Position on the table tells you which team is doing well at a particular time and that's down to the quality of players, their form, work rate etc but most importantly, I'd like to attribute it to the coach, his team selection, set up, training routine to improve fitness, in-game management and tactical nous. You can't possibly say that Sheffield United has better players than Spurs, United and Arsenal just because of their position on the table else you'll be laughed at every quarter. Look at Leicester City before Rodgers and now their fitness has improved, tactically they look better. Look at Dortmund when Klopp was coach and now, look at Liverpool, don't you see obvious similarities? At Dortmund, you had Schmelzer and Piszchek at Pool you have Robertson and TAA and their pressing game is similar. Are you saying that with Klopp or Pep as coach we will have players strolling on the field of play? I honestly doubt. Manchester City and Liverpool players work very hard game week after game week. Now take a look at our performance after going 2 goals down, we looked all of a sudden miles better than Sheffield until Ole decided to hand over the initiative to Sheffield United by his negative sub. Imagine if we started every game with the same intensity and purpose, we wouldn't be dropping points against Crystal Palace and the Sheffield United's of the world. |
