It's almost certain the EPL will be more difficult to win than the UCL next season, with Chelsea, City (probable) and Liverpool (Probable) not making it to the UCL, coupled with the influx of world class managers... Won't be surprise to see City crash out of the Europa league in the group stages to focus on the league, we might actually have to choose btw UCL and top four spot next season cos the battle for top four promises to be intense... For the folks already writing off Leicesters chances next season, I advise that we take them seriously cos from what I perceive, the owner is very much involved in the running of the club (something the glazers are hardly interested in safe for the commercial wing) thus I presume he will be willing to spend a fortune to have them remain at the top... |

GBR1: I don't think you have a proper understanding of the term ''rival''. In the EPL United have Chelsea, City, Liverpool, and Arsenal at best as rivals, not other PL teams like Spurs, Westham are considered rivals where we could buy players from. These rivals in England find it difficult to sell/acquire players from one another though there are exceptions, but like i said it's very rare. In Spain Barcelona and Madrid are rivals and the story is similar because i can't remember the last any player switch directly between these 2 clubs since the Figo move which was even highly controversial at the time. In Italy, the big clubs perform similar acts. Generally these rivals would rather sell abroad than to their closest competitor. When these rivals shop in the league, they mostly buy from mid table/lower ranked teams. So stop giving useless examples and stop trying to draw feeble parallels to excuse Bayern from these shameful acts they've been involved in Dortmund mostly buys young players or top prospects from lower teams in the Bundesliga not finished products, and not players from Bayern their rival/major competitor. Again in Germany, we have a league with a big club like Bayern and Dortmund as the rival but Bayern getting their closest rival important players year after year. From buying Gotze to getting Lewandoski on a free transfer. Now they are coming for Dortmund's captain in Hummels, another very important player to Dortmund. There is no excuse for this again and this is not the 1st or even 2nd time Bayern has done this and i doubt this would be the last time. B He will come with his spinning tools and claim Leicester/Tottenham are direct rivals.. |

CFCman: I don't think Hillary would pick someone older than her, or a nationally celebrated liberal like Elizabeth Warren. Liz Warren as the running mate would take the shine off of Hillary; in fact, she would attract much more massive crowds on the stump than Hillary.
HRC will go for a younger (mid forties to mid fifties) politician that leans liberal. The person could be a man or woman. The person Hillary picks should be someone that's ready to run for president in 2020 or 2024. I'd prefer Sanders...He appeals to the average man on the street, you can't rule out the gains of wooing undecided voters at this point. |

I think the determining factor on who occupies the oval office is who Hillary picks as running mate...Sanders should do cos he appeals to most whites (young & old)...A wrong choice from Hillary and the democratic party will just about be the end of it all. |

lekkie073: in 2005 when liverpool won d ucl and didnt make top 4, there was no standing rule as to such occurence in eufa regulations so everton had to be allowed to take part in the ucl play offs. immediately uefa made a regulation dat henceforth any team dat win d ucl and not finish within d allocated slot from its country of origin, such country stands to lose a slot. this was why totenham lost thw slot to chelsea. the recent issue of sevilla came as a result of a new regulation which gives the europa league winner the opportunity to get an automatic slot for ucl. dat was why valencia finishing fourth in la liga was allowed to take part in d qualifiers. Thanks bro |

If we fail to win today, then the hope of finishing in the top four spot is gone... Couple of seasons ago, I think 2005 UCL competition, Liverpool won the UCL but didn't finish in the top four spot (I think Everton did) that year Liverpool returned to the UCL as winners and Everton were knocked out by Villareal in the qualification round (Duncan Ferguson had a goal wrongly disallowed)...Fast forward to 2013 where Chelsea won the UCL but finished in 5th position, that year Tottenham finished fourth but lost their spot to Chelsea who were coming in as previous winners... Now, to last season, Sevilla won the Europa League but didn't finish in the top four in La Liga but they were admitted into the UCL as winners of the Europa League and the fourth place team went into the UCL via the qualifiers... From the above, in 2005, Everton were allowed to participate in the qualifiers (thus England had a chance of five team represening the EPL had Everton not lost the qualifiers), in 2014 Tottenham were kicked out in favour of Chelsea (England had four teams), in 2016 Valencia were allowed to participate in the qualifiers from where they got into the UCL proper (thus, spain had 5 teams) I am still not sure it's cast in stone that the fourth placed team will go into the qualifiers should Liverpool or Sevilla win the Europa league...Any body with enough info should please bring it up... |

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by patrickmuf(m): 9:10pm On May 05, 2016 |
Nihilist: Like most football fans, you have been conditioned to think that attacking football looks a certain type of way.
Leicester and Atletico have both averaged less than 50% possesion this season - Yet both have scored the 3rd highest number of goals in their respective leagues.
Leicester are champions. Atleti are level on points with Barca and are in the UCL final.
My dear sinizia, that is not 'luck'. That is controlled and precise attacking. If City, Spurs, Madrid and Barca are infantry men with rapid fire machine guns, Leicester and Atleti are sharp shooting snipers.
The difference between Atleti/Leicester and Bayern/Barca/City is the emphasis on the collective team effort with the former and reliance on briliant individuals in the latter.
Eruditor also alluded to this in the second half of his post.
Leicester lost Vardy to suspension and won their next match 4-0. Kante was injured and Leicester still won their match. Only Mahrez has stayed available of their 3 main men for the majority of the season but it hasnt really stopped them. Atleti have been bleeding big players during simeone's reign but it hasn't stopped him - Costa gone, Courtois gone, Mandzucic gone, yet Atleti are in the final....with the much derided Flopando Torress up fron no less!
Building on Eruditor's post, I'm now wondring if managers of star studded teams like Barca, bayern, etc feel compelled to 'attack' in a certain kind of way, with a focus on their world class talents.
Simeone and Ranieri have shown us that this other way is viable and need not be sneered at. Jose is finally being vindicated. Well said...I think we need to accept that football and winning could be achieved indifferent ways |

The yellow he didn't dish out to Ramos for trying to pluck off Aguero's eye? The card not given to Ronaldo for doing a Jordan? The red card he didn't deem necessary to dish out to Vasquez? The red was just not man enough to call the shots...All the same Man City no try... |
