Education › Re: What Is The Work And Uses Of Psychologist? by Pavore9: 11:35pm On Apr 22, 2018 |
RICKYMARIO: As for the undergraduate level, most of the Nigerian unis offer only general psychology. The other related course I know is guidance and counselling. Then I only know of developmental psychology (which could encompass childhood and adolescence) at the PG level. But I'll try to find out the courses offered at PG level in my school. Thanks for the info, just wish B. A Counselling psychology is available as against what you noted is being offered, hoping we get to soon offer that so that right from the first semester one knows he is training to be a psychotherapist. Looking forward to knowing what is being offered at the PG level. |

RICKYMARIO: Psychology is a very wonderful course, the only thing is that it is not well appreciated and developed here in Nigeria 1. It depends on the school. for instance, here in UNN, Biology is compulsory, so it's English, biology & any other two subjects 2. university of Nigeria Nsukka. It will interest you to know that it's the first Nigerian university to have a department in psycholoy. 3. It's still the general cut off mark (180). 4. Four years. During these four years general psychology will be taught, so if he wants a career in psychology, he definitely has to go for post graduate studies. 5. Anywhere from schools, hospitals, law enforcement, etc 6.Maths, English, biology etc. Still depends on his choice institution. 7. Still an undergraduate in psychology and I can tell you its been a very wonderful experience. 8. Simply put, psychology has a lot of uses in our environment since it studies human behaviour it means we can be able to predict, describe, & even control human behaviour for the betterment of man.
Hope this was a bit helpful. Is any school in Nigeria offering Counseling psychology at the undergraduate level and Child and adolescent counselling in the Masters level? |

tensazangetsu20: All this for just a year with a 99 percent probability of coming back to Nigeria jobless and dashing your parents hard earned money to the Queen of England not worth it IMHO. I get your perspective and that's why it is really important to research on foreign schools factoring the possibility of earning an income while studying, does it offer one the option to stay behind after graduation and is it a stepping stone to a desired third country? Nigerians go to fellow African countries for studies not because of their exceptional standards but because of the "coded" opportunities to travel out of Africa when the school is on break and many never return. Those who know, knows. |

rvp2017: And so while we export nearly half billion dollars worth of textile to US - we import about the same as second hand clothes (about 100,000 tonnes ) - or 4,000 trucks of clothes- worth about 100M usd.
So maybe there is something to learn about Nigeria prints But kenyans are so used to western clothing - I don't think they can wear multi-colored print everyday - so we will continue wearing second hand or last season clothes dumped to us from the US. The urban Kenyan woman is increasingly appreciating the Nigerian prints and designs as you need to see the volumes of fabrics coming into Nairobi from Lagos on a weekly basis. There is a quiet influx of Nigerian trained tailors into Nairobi, then sew in their apartments and some sharp minded Kenyans buy off from them and upload for sale on Kilimani mums etc after the Nigerian has made a healthy profit |

rvp2017: A good start - hope we see it soon in our supermaket and stores. Maybe your banks can donate one advertisement slot in CNN for this...people would love those African prints! I think I have two or three...that I bought in Uganda. Kenya we just do western kind of clothing.
Don't be like our congolese..who spend all the day bleaching, buying expensive perfumes, fashion and dancing lingala tunes..while their country which like nigeria has incredible natural resources is mirred in poverty.
Actually you guys are CONGOLESE twins. All you dream about is to peacock around in multi-colored african prints if not dancing and making merry!!! Yes we share so much with the Congolese. When you talk of food, they are so very close to Nigeria. Do get a lot of food items from Congo which are obtainable back home in Nigeria. A good chunk of the Kitenge sold in Kenya comes in from Nigeria. It is common to hear Swahili being spoken by Kenyans who frequent Balogun market, which is a known fabric market in Lagos. |
