akanbi2k: I buy my seeds from cotonou, thailand ,China and Lagos. It takes about 2 weeks to nurse and about 7-8weeks to be ready for the table. We dont plant only lettuce we also grow Cabbage Spring onions Mint leaves Coriander Basil Parsley Cucumbers Golden Melon Onions etc to mention a few. Pls follow and like my page on Facebook ...FarmerPreneur....where we take Agric from substistence into Real business ...I will be updating pictures of our activities as we get set for the off season...
Here are some pix of the farm as at 6pm yesterday....
All the best .....if you have specific enquiries hit me up on Corporatefarmer9ja@gmail.com
All the best Sola Following your progress........I just love the array of veggies you grow. many still have the stereotyped thinking that such can only do well around Plateau State. The South West is in a very strategic position to produce such veggies for the huge Lagos market and nearby states thereby cutting low on dependency of their haulage from the North. |

CFCfan: According to "The Sun", the airline's round-trip fare will be N149,000 ($677). Not bad for a 6-hr flight. The price is okay for the Nigerian market but still high in comparison to flying from Nairobi to London which takes 9hrs if is a direct flight via Kenya Airways but one can get a get a ticket for about $645 with Turkish Airline though a stop over at Istanbul. The Dubai route is so cheap, got a return ticket for N80,000 via Ethiopian Airline though has a stop over at Addis Ababa but total flight duration is 6hrs 10mins. |

dav8id: Those egusi are unpeeled
peeled egusi are sold in mudu not in bag..see picture below how mudu look like..four cup of peak milk makeup of a mudu.
peeled egusi hand peeled go for #570
hand pealed go for #470 per mudu. Do you have any idea where Egusi is processed into oil and how much a litre could go for? |

Russell145: You are right about the veggies....I also thought about them and it was a nice idea for me......but my only obstacle with the veggies is that it needs one's attention, and I am a student, schl in Imo state. The labourer that will be taking care of the farm might not have good knowledge about veggies....bt they do have good knowledge about plantain pdtion.... my mum was a plantain farmer and she stays close to the farm.
The only time my presence will be there is during the planting period, occasional visit to the farm(maybe 3 to 4 wks intervals) and the harvesting period. But I must say that u are right.....and I don't think I will be able to sleep well tonight with ur point in my head.
Thought lettuce was for temperate(cold) weather No lettuce is not for temperate regions, just like cabbage, cucumber, celery, parsley, aubergines etc it will do well across Nigeria. Just like with right knowledge one can even grow Strawberries right there in your village! |

Agriculture › Re: Beans Or Groundnut- Which Is More Prefarable For Cultivation In The South South by Pavore9(mod): 2:22pm On Nov 03, 2015 |
Russell145: Its about 30-45 mins drive to Benin........most veggies are sold at the general market, Oba market for example...bt we still have vegetable market.....their supplies comes from the north. That is your opportunity right there! With that size of land you have, you do not have comparative advantage over the North as regards cereals. Go into vegetable cultivation as the return on investment is higher and has shorter cycles. Lettuce as an example, is what one can get to harvest in 2 months. Since you are going to have irrigation facilities on site then you are sure of all year round cultivation. If you can get to understudy how to grow lettuce, cabbage, capsicum, parsley etc you will have every cause to smile as you will be supplying these to Benin reducing the dependency on them coming from the north. |

Russell145: Ok...thanks a lot. I am actually preparing to sink a borehole for irrigation purpose.
I just wanted to know if the rainy weather is gud for it........though I will be intercropping it with plantain b4 the suckers grow bigger leaves to cover the land.
The land is about 2hectares. What is the driving distance between your place and Benin City? Where is veggies like lettuce being sold in Benin City being supplied from? |
