Politics / Pres. Goodluck Addicted To Facebook Already? He Heeds Advice From Two Fans by pckid: 6:20pm On Jul 10, 2010
http://questionmarkmag.com/2010/07/pres-goodluck-addicted-to-facebook-already-he-heeds-advice-from-two-facebook-fans-and-promises-to-do-more/

Goodluck Jonathan.
His facebook name is Goodluck Jonathan. Mr. President joined facebook on June 28,2010. So far, he's got more than 100,000 fans and still counting, out of more than 2 million Nigerians on facebook. When the president disclosed his intention to open a facebook account at the convocation service held at University of PortHarcourt, many had thought he would trivalize comments and come online once in three months, but the president has confounded critics as it looks like the president is getting addicted to facebook. It is as if Nigerian youths have been waiting for a time like this, when the president joins a social networking website to relate with youths, as thousands of comments and likes have been following his status updates. While some had shown antipathy towards President's facebook decision (those possibly between the age range of 40 - 75), most Nigerian youths have been raining praise on the president for his action. Facebook extremists mainly advocating good governance, good power supply among others and questioning the president's undisclosed intention to contest for president in the 2011 election. Mr. President claimed he has been taking notes of people's comments on facebook, with many nigerian followers bombarding president with questions, thousands rephrasing questions, enigmatic comments while the president sidestep such questions.

We say thanks to Mark Zuckerberg for, http://questionmarkmag.com/2010/07/pres-goodluck-addicted-to-facebook-already-he-heeds-advice-from-two-facebook-fans-and-promises-to-do-more/

Sports / Mandela's Ex-wife Offers Ghanaian Player, Boateng Her Granddaughter To Marry by pckid: 7:27pm On Jul 08, 2010
http://questionmarkmag.com/2010/07/mandelas-ex-wife-offers-ghanaian-player-boateng-her-granddaughter-to-marry/

Nelson mandela's ex-wife, winnie mandela might be bringing back the old African culture where a warrior who who has fought for his nation gets the king's daughter as reward. Mandela is an icon in africa, lets call him the king. Boateng who has fought for a place for africa in the world at the on-going world cup can be called an african warrior. Mandela's ex-wife must have been dreaming of the ghanaian-german black stars' player as the perfect man for granddaughter. She has gone so far as to offer her willing granddaughter to the 23 year old player. At first, Winnie might have gotten a knee-response from the player considering the value of such offer.

The former first lady met with boateng when she hosted the blackstars at her residence in soweto. She told boateng her granddaughter is ready to marry him and that she is ready to sponsor the marriage. Boateng has been admired by many young ladies around the world after playing at the world cup for ghana. Twitter proved it during the football match between US and ghana, when 'boateng' was trending: thousands of tweets emphasizing on the beauty of his face. Young ladies making a beeline for the ghanaian player to get his autograph. Kevin prince boateng who joined the ghanaian team after he was turned down by the german team might be going through a decisive moment in his life as he's already married to jenny who resides in germany blessed with a child. Winnie had lost a granddaughter some hours before the world cup kicked off in south africa, and now, she is not ready to lose another granddaughter to just any man but boateng.

Should we call winnie a do-gooder?. Winnie is not playing it by ear, and who knows he boateng is going to play the game the way winnie expected.

Music/Radio / M.i. To Reply Kelly Hansome As He Released Another 'chocolate Boys' Diss by pckid: 7:43pm On Jul 06, 2010
M.I. plans to reply Kelly Hansome on this diss.

We previously and exclusively reported that while Kelly hansome was holding peace talks with Kenny Ogungbe and Kennis Music, he was not in any way seeking a redress with M.I. He had exclusively told us: “my problem is with M.I. Not chocolate city”, indications now say otherwise as he released a track titled 'Chocolate Boys'.

We can tell that Kelly Hansome started as a rap artiste which would explain why his 'diss' freestyle would receive a nod from some.

Again how the feud began? Kelly was not pleased with M.I. Making a reference at him and Keke – calling 'Keke the man' Kelly Hansome was not particularly excited about a line from M.I. in 'Fast Money, fast cars' on his 'Talk about it' album. The line haunted Kelly hansome as he made us understand even after he had met M.I. and requ, http://questionmarkmag.com/2010/07/m-i-plans-response-to-kelly-hansome-new-chocolate-boys-diss/

Food / This Wonder Called Agege Bread by pckid: 7:05pm On Jul 05, 2010
phenomenally popular as it has turned out, you don’t want to see the hygienic stat of it source

“In this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” So said Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding fathers of America, centuries ago. Were he to live in the present-day Lagos, he would have probably added Agege Bread to the list of certainties. In fact, Agege Bread is a phenomenon. From the young to the old, the poor and the reach, Agege bread is becoming something of an obsession to many a Lagosian. Cheap, fresh and undeniably tasty, it cuts across social-economic boundaries. Temitope Orelope, a Lagos based banker is one of them. “Agege Bread is the best in the world especially when eaten fresh. I often wonder why people go for more expensive brands of bread when Agege is readily available,” she says.

Jimmy Ubong, a native of Akwa-Ibom State has spent 10 years in Lagos. He caught the Agege bug when the family he stayed with introduced it to him. Since, his love for the bread has grown. “Whenever I travel out of Lagos, the one thing I really miss is Agege Bread. I don’t bother taking it with me because it is best eaten when it is fresh. I can eat it morning, afternoon and in the evening, why not,” the graphic artist confesses.

Several stories abound about the genesis of this bread. One version has it that the bread began to gain prominence in the early ‘70s. As the story goes, it was first produced in Agege, a suburb of Lagos. From there it eased its way into other parts of the state. Originally known as Ayokuno Bread, when it attained a degree of popularity, it became known as Agege Bread.

These days, other brands of bread dot Lagos State. Makers of these other refined varieties employ improved baking techniques backed with aggressive marketing drive, all in a bid to usurp Agege Bread. Still, Agege bread remains the king in Lagos and other South , http://questionmarkmag.com/2010/07/this-wonder-called-agege-bread/

Literature / Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani Writes A Blog by pckid: 10:26am On Jul 05, 2010
Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani is the author of I Do Not Come to You by Chance, a humorous novel set amidst the intriguing world of Nigerian 419 scams. I Do Not Come to You by Chance won a Betty Trask award, the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best First Book (Africa), was a finalist for the Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa, and was named by the Washington Post as one of the Best Books of 2009. The book is published in Nigeria by Cassava Republic, and is now available in bookshops. She writes:

While working as the editor of élan, NEXT newspaper’s fashion and style magazine, I often had to deal with tantrums from designers who were upset about something another designer had done or said.

“She claimed in your interview that she was the one who first started designing clothes with African print,” was the most common complaint. “Well, that’s a lie because I am the one who first started it!”

After hearing that same claim from at least a billion different Nigerian designers, one of my friends finally suggested a way to put an end to it all.

“Adaobi, why not just tell them that you were the one who first started it,” she said.

Indeed, she was right!

Long time ago, in my university days, I fell in love with African print. Meanwhile, everyone else seemed to think it was only good for wrappers and traditional outfits. For me, the fabric gained, complete reading at http://questionmarkmag.com/2010/07/who-started-it-by-adaobi-tricia-nwaubani/

Sports / Emmanuel Amuneke: Lagerback Fooled Us With Eagles by pckid: 10:21am On Jul 05, 2010
http://questionmarkmag.com/2010/07/emmanuel-amuneke-lagerback-fooled-us-with-eagles/

“It would have been a big miracle had Nigeria advanced beyond the opening stage of the World Cup.” That was the remark of, Emmanuel Amuneke, the 1994 African Footballer of the Year and the scorer of the goals that earned Nigeria the 1994 African Nations Cup and the gold medal of the soccer event of the 1996 Olympic Games.

The former Super Eagles striker is in South Africa as one of the analysts for the Asian cable TV network, Al Jazeera. “It may be difficult to accept the fact, but I must tell you, Nigerian football has gone backward. We are not putting important attention to planning. Events are just unfolding and we falsely believe we are making progress”, said Amuneke. Continuing, the striker who scored Nigeria’s lone goal against Italy at the round of 16 in the 1994 World Cup, said the composition of the Super Eagles squad of today is largely based on names rather than current forms of the players.

He stated that the performance of the Super Eagles at the South Africa 2010 World Cup was simply a reflection of their current form. “You noticed how we struggled to even qualify. It was sheer luck. Things were not easy for the team. The signals had been there all along”, Amuneke said.

“Lars Lagerback based his selection on names of the players in Europe rather than the current forms of the players. Berti Vogts made a similar mistake when he handled the team two years ago. He even did the absurd by living in Germany while discarding the actual environment where he was supposed to be working.”

He stressed that the result of basing team selection on the big names was that most of the players were not in their best forms. Amuneke pointed at some of the players that did not give optimum performance. “Yakubu Aiyegbeni was not at his best. So also was Osaze Odemwingie”, he said. He further stated that rather than lamenting Nigeria’s poor performance, the NFF should start thinking of the way forward as the qualifying series for the 2012 Africa Nations Cup is just weeks away. Amuneke is urging the football authorities to look inwards by improving the standard of the domestic league as a springboard for the desired development of the national team.

Music/Radio / Mtv Chief Alex Okosi On Royalty For African Artiste: "the Industry Is Not Genera by pckid: 1:32pm On Jul 02, 2010
http://questionmarkmag.com/2010/07/mtv-chief-alex-okosi-on-royalty-for-african-artiste-the-industry-is-not-generating-enough-cash/

Before the launch of MTV Base in February 2005, Music commentators, industry insiders and entertainment writers raised issues of royalty to African artiste for music video that would be aired on the channel as is the practice the world over. The channel that is viewed in countries like United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Republic of Ireland, Kenya and South Africa is headed and overseen by Alex Okosi.

While some local artiste still see this as ripping off as every foreign video aired on the channel get rewarded, others are not complaining and see it as the perfect promotion platform and premiere their works on the cable network.

In a conversation with Encomium Weekly writer Chilee Agunanna, Alex spoke on MTV Base inability to reward or pay royalties to Nigerian and Africa artistes for using their works.

He informed that there is a move to pay the artiste but ” The challenges with Nigeria is that there is no Collecting Rights Society; the industry is not generating enough cash. ” He said.

He further went on to say: “There are no advertisers paying for their products to be shown within a music video.MTV Base is a platform, a business and in a broadcast business, it is advertising that sustains you. When Nigeria gets a Collecting Rights Society, we would get to that.”

“Even the biggest artists in the U.S are no longer waiting for their royalty cheques because music videos are no longer played that much in the U.S because there’s no stickness to it. The internet has also come up and many videos could be watched online for free.” He concluded.

With the institutionalizing of COSON as the sole collecting society by Nigerian Copyright Commission, does a Nigerian artiste see cheque from MTV Betwork Africa soon? or would have to wait till advertisers begin to pay for their products shown in a video?

Nasara whose real name is Mariam Abdul Rauf was winner of the 2009 edition of Ghana’s Most Beautiful beauty pageant. The Ghanaian media is awashed with reports that she stole a cell phone. She was stripped off her crown for allegedly stealing a cell phone that belonged to a fellow contestant at the Miss Earth 2010 that was held in Philippines.

The beauty queen has expressed her disappointment to the organizers of the pageant, TV3 Network accusing them of stabbing her in the back. She claims she had wanted to sue the newspaper New Fylla who broke the story but the organizers asked her to halt it only to release a press statement even after banning her from speaking to any media house about it in addition to never hearing her side of the story. “They didn’t call me to say my side. I saw it on facebook that my crown has been taken from me. I am very surprised, because TV3 have stabbed me in the back”, Nasara disclosed.

TV/Movies / Big Brother Africa Returns With Shower Hour For Fifth Season. by pckid: 10:28pm On Jul 01, 2010
Source inform that followers of Africa’s biggest TV reality show, Big Brother Africa (BBA), might be in for a new thrill with the return of the controversial shower hour, which will be subject to the subscribers’ choice.

http://questionmarkmag.com/2010/07/big-brother-africa-returns-with-shower-hour-for-fifth-season/

The 5th BBA will commence immediately after the 2010 World Cup fiesta is over with the golden prize of USD 200,000 once again up for grabs.

Speaking on the coming event, M-Net’s Africa Managing Director, Biola Alabi, said, “What a great moment this is- to bring back a show that our audience loves for an incredible 5th time. We wanted Season 4 (Big Brother Revolution) to be special, but it exceeded our hopes. With the volume of interactions the show received from fans, it was clear that Season 5 was definitely on the cards. So, we’ve been developing what we believe will be thrilling new format changes.”

This new season will begin on July 18, and will be screened live for 91 days on DStv Channel 198 for DStv Premium and Compact subscribers. She further said, “We want to invest more broadly in Season 5. And having already been introduced to a world of interesting characters from previous searches, there’s limited value in spending extensively in another search for contestants. We’ll still be looking for entertaining persons with a sense of humor, a love of adventure and the ability to enjoy the very exciting Big Brother experience. In the past, we’ve spent widely to find contestants in 14 countries. This year, we’re using these funds to develop a gutsy new series, recreating the house in a very different way and focusing on putting new technology into place.”

Politics / Mike Adenuga And Wife Become Nigeria’s Newest Fugitives. by pckid: 11:57am On Jun 29, 2010
In the same path James Ibori took before he was arrested, Mike Adunga is reported by The Will Nigeria to have made himself a fugitive: Just like the fugitive former governor of Bauchi State, Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu who fled Nigeria more than two years ago and his Delta State counterpart, Chief James Ibori, who also fled Nigeria to the Emirati via Accra before his detention by Dubai police, THEWILL can report that Globacom Chairman, billionaire and oil magnate, Otunba Mike Adenuga has fled the shores of Nigeria for good to escape interrogation and possible prosecution.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had sought to interrogate Adenuga and his second wife, Titi in connection with its investigation into the 17.5 million euro Siemens bribery scandal.

Adenuga had written the anti-graft agency claiming that he was part of the federal government delegation to South Africa to attend the opening ceremony of the 2010 World Cup soccer competition and that he would make himself available to operatives of the agency as soon as the assignment was over.

THEWILL checks at the Office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) has however revealed that Adenuga was not on the federal government delegation. According to a circular obtained from the office, those on the list included Senate President David Mark (head of delegation), Governor Bukola Saraki (Kwara State); Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta State); Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers State); Sports Minister, Isa Bio; Youth Development Minister, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi; Women Affairs Minister, Mrs. Josephine Anenih; Information and Communications Minister, Dora Akunyili, and former football federation secretary, Sani Toro, who served as secretary.

The federal government delegation to South Africa has since returned to Nigeria including other government officials, state governors, legislators and businessmen who trooped to South Africa to watch early matches. In fact, the Nigerian Super Eagles has officially left South Africa after they failed to qualify for the round of 16 but Otunba Mike Adenuga has deliberately stayed away from Nigeria.

One of Adenuga’s friends who opted to remain anonymous said the billionaire has no plans of honouring the EFCC invitation.

“Mike has gone underground. He won’t meet with the EFCC, he used the world cup as an excuse to buy some time but the Super Eagles early elimination exposed his plan, Complete reading at http://questionmarkmag.com/2010/06/mike-adenuga-and-wife-become-nigeria%E2%80%99s-newest-fugitives/

One thing that has not been written about Wole Soyinka is the woman/women in this life even a Lagos based newspaper that had advertised a story to celebrate his 70th birthday never published the story.

Wole Soyinka remains the first Blackman to receive the prestigious Nobel Laurel in this discipline.

She recalled her encounter with Dele Momodu (Publisher of Ovation magazine), who as an editor with Weekend Concord, Nigeria’s highly successful first Saturday newspaper, cornered the lady for a world-exclusive interview. “Dele Momodu told me he wanted to do an interview on me as a woman of substance,” said Chief Laide Soyinka, “but, he ended up doing such an elaborate thing on me and Wole Soyinka. No, I won’t allow you do the same thing this time around. You won’t get me like Dele Momodu did.

If you want to do a story on Wole Soyinka, go to Wole Soyinka and interview him. As for me, I am not ready and I am not going to talk about Wole Soyinka.”

Ask her how she feels about the Nobel Laureate, and her response comes tumbling out with the speed of light. “Of course, I love him,” she said. “How do you marry somebody you don’t love?
