I think this is what happens when one copies and pastes without full understanding.

From nitation's first solution, the OP should, IMHO, be able to customize the first solution in order to come up with the second solution. I won't fault the OP much though as I, and perhaps others, have fallen for this when they were first reading from an eBook.

OP:
Bear in mind that, though not always the case, code in books may not necessarily be right or compile. If what you are reading isn't working, use google for instance to find a similar solution (for example, google, "PHP and forms"wink and you will find solutions that you can use in lieu of what is in the book you currently have.

good luck!

Thank you for your response. I typed everything the way the book said and it didn't work. Then I followed the method from a dvd video and it also didn't work. But the funny thing is that it worked for the tutor in the dvd.

nitation:

Did you receive my last post?
nitation:

Good point @Yawatide

@Moderator, I have posted three response to this topic and they keep disappearing. Is that bot at work again? Anyway, I need a super-mod privileges.

I didn't received your last post. The issue of posting and it will disappear is strange. I posted on one of the forum and behold, my post disappear without notice. Anyway I'm still waiting for your solution. Thank you

Can you provide the error message you received

I received this error message.

Notice: Undefined index: tireqty in C:\wamp\www\phpandmysql\process.php on line 4

Notice: Undefined index: oilqty in C:\wamp\www\phpandmysql\process.php on line 5

Notice: Undefined index: spartqty in C:\wamp\www\phpandmysql\process.php on line 6

Your order is as follows:
tires
bottles of oils
spark plugs

Am glad you were able to solve that. Your second question is more unless the first, i would strongly advice that you read and understand HTML parameters before going further with your PHP lessons. After looking through your code, there isn't any name attributed to your submit button, which in most cases, will not perform the action you required it to.

What error are you receiving on process.php? change

<input type="submit" value="submit Order"/>

to

<input type="submit" name="submit" value="submit Order"/>

I replaced the code as you told me but it didn't work. I'm still getting the error message. Why is it that in the video/textbook, they did the same thing and it worked for them but it didn't work for me. Do it have to do with the version of the php?

Thank you so much!!!!!!! It solve the problem instantly. I have another question. This is another code, it is giving me error message again. What is wrong with the code. It has to files. The first file is saved as form.php and the second file is set as process.php When I enter my data in the first file and click on submit order, I received an error message on the process.php Here are the codes

show us the contents of your resultsbyname.php. Chances are that it has no html code in it. While you're at it, visit w3schools.com, the php section and check out how to use PHP with forms.

Good luck!

Thank you. The resultsbyname.php has no content. The way I posted it is how far I have gone with it. The funny thing is that I was following an example given in a book, it work on the book but didn't worked on my computer. I switched to watch the DVD video tutorial, everything work perfect on the video but when I tried it on my system, I got the error message.
I have covered w3school but I can't resolve the issue. Help me out please.

Dual Core:

the right php code is

$name = $_POST['name'];
echo $name;

you may want to try some other books

Thank you for the answer. I tried the code you gave and still receive the same error message. I watched some php tutorial video and they wrote something similar to the first code without adding $_POST. Everything worked fine on their examples and when I tried it on my computer I received an error message.

I went back to the html and changed method = "post" to $_POST and when I run the code again, the input word I enter appeared on the address bar of my browser but didn't appear on the content area of my browser. I'm getting frustrated. Please help me.

suxes2005:

Hi all,

I am currently looking for a Webmaster That
Knows Forum Development well. I have bought
the domain name as well as installed smf but I
need some1 (or more) who can help work together
on the FORUM.

SHALOM

I would like to help you but sometime it is really important that the person has to be there to work things out with you. Don't forget that you need to download some modules to love-vendor your website. Take for instance "www.nairaland.com", it is using smf but it has a lot of modules to make the site look the way it is now. For example, the homepage display. You can visit smf website to download the modules of your choices. Make you the modules that you are download can work with the version of smf you are using. If you encounter a problem you can google it or visit smf forum for immediate answer. I recommend that you install a version of smf on your localhost and test things out before testing them on your real site. Wish you luck.

appleton:

Sorry, I dont have answers to your question, but I'ld like to know hw u installed the smf.
U may want to send me a mail as regards that,
appletonjames18@yahoo.com
Thanks

The simplest way to install smf( if you are installing it on your webserver) is:-
1.) Log into your Cpanel
2.) Look for "Fantastico" and click on it
3.) When "Fantastico dialogue box open, look at your left, you will see a list of web softwares. Since you want to install smf, its is located under "Discussion Boards" Click on it.
4.) Once you click on it, the page will load. Follow the instructions there. You will succeed. I wish you look.

The second option on installing the smf is first installing it on your localhost(that is your computer). But before you do that make you that you have web server application like xampp or wamp (if you are running on windows) or used mamp( if you are running on mac.
You can download xampp, wamp, or mamp from their website. It is free. Once you have install any of the software, go ahead and download smf from their website. After downloading it. Follow this steps
1.) Extract smf file to "htdocs folder(if you have using xampp you can find this folder under C:/xamp/htdocs)" or "www folder(if you are using wamp or mamp)".
2.) After the extraction, open your web browser and type "localhost/"the name of the file you used to extract the smf". Before doing that, make sure that your xampp, wamp or mamp is running. You can do that by turning any of them on.
3.) Let that example that you extracted the smf file in a folder like C:/xamp/htdocs/smf. Type "localhost/smf" in your browser, it will open the smf installation, follow the guide you will succeed. If you encounter problem, you can google it because I may not be online to help out.
4.) Let's assume that everything went well and now you want to upload it to your webserver, you can use Filezilla. You can also don't forget to upload your database too. Good luck.
Politics / Everything They Said Is Possible! by pdone: 12:50pm On Nov 13, 2010
Imagine going for christmas vacation and on your return, you find it so hard to locate your house. Why? Because everywhere has been developed within a week. Everything they said is Possible.!!!!!

[b]As the United States and China battle over the finer points of currency manipulation at the G-20 summit, American negotiators may want to take note of this startling testimonial to the productivity of Chinese workers: A construction crew in the south-central Chinese city of Changsha has completed a 15-story hotel in just six days. If nothing else, this remarkable achievement will stoke further complaints from American economic pundits that China's economy is far more accomplished than ours in tending to such basics as construction.

[Related: China sets record with new supercomputer]

Meanwhile, it's easy to imagine the disorientation of Changsha residents who'd gone away, or who just hadn't recently ventured into the downtown neighborhood of the new Ark Hotel: "Honey, I don't remember a hotel there, do you?"

The work crew erected the hotel -- a soundproofed, thermal-insulated structure reportedly built to withstand a magnitude 9 earthquake -- with all prefabricated materials. In other words, a crew of off-site factory workers built the sections, and their on-site counterparts arranged them on the foundation for the Ark project.

[Video: How safe is a home built in a week?]

Despite the frenetic pace of construction, no workers were injured -- and thanks to the prefab nature of the process, the builders wasted very few construction materials. Below is a time-lapse video that shows the hotel being built from the ground up in less than a week:

Why are you being sentimental here? Does that mean every one goes to the Pastors. Even the Muslims, the Pagans, the Traditional worships and all that. Please let us be more objective in our reaction to sensitive issues like this and make sure our comments are void of personal vendetta. We all know Muslim consult the Muslim clerics i.e. the Immas', the Alfas' when they feel they need advice. The Traditional worshipers visit the Babalawos', Oni sango's, yeye osun etc for help in times of challenges. The pagans are not left behind, the choose to go to either the Pastor, the Imam or the Babalawo's based on the influence of who is closer to them in times of their trials.

Why did you have to conclude that everybody goes to the Pastor? Are you incinerating that Pastors are the only entity people run to for spiritual help/advice?

Just be careful with your comments.

Lovely day ahead.

Forget about being sentimental. You and I know fully well that one of the problem facing Nigeria today is that majority of people sit back and waits for their pastor to predict their goddam future. No one seems to fight for his future or right. It has reach to the stage where majority believe more in their pastors more than they believe in God. What will you call pastors that still dine with the likes of OBJ, IBB, and other criminal politicians, yet refuse to tell them their sins no matter what it might cause them.

I admit that there are still righteous pastors but from what I see it is no more the same. I will give you an example, there is one pastor that went to Singapore for some seminar. He was sponsor by his church. After the seminar, the pastor said that he is not going back to Nigeria. The other pastor asked him why? He response was "Man can't you see the life around here. Do you want to go back to Nigeria and start living the same way again?"

What will you call such a pastor?

How many times will I say this----------If Paul the Octopus can predicts, then anyone can predict" It is a two head coin. It's either you are right or wrong.

I'm sorry but I have to admit that sometimes, I don't like the way Nigerians believe everything that a pastor says. I think we are not different from our forefathers. Everyone wants the pastor to tell him how his/her business, wife/husband, future, child, will look like. Sometimes someone will have a dream but instead of fighting for the dream to come true, he/she will first needs his/her pastor to OK the plan.

What a stupid way of living.

@OP -To some extent I agree with you but common men why will I sell my house that i worked so hard to get just to help the community. We went abroad to better ourselves and make something of our selves ,no one will come home and give it all away.

Your heart is in the right place but the last few sentences of your comment are not going to win you any friends. I think the issue we must address is that of selfishness. Bite me if you don’t like my comment but I know that most Nigerians regardless of where they are based are naturally selfish and self-centred. It is evident in our politics, private and public sectors. It is also evident amongst Nigerians living abroad. Allow me to use SA as an example:

SA is a beautiful country and a great place to do business but Nigerians here are probably the worst you can find in Diasporas because they are so selfish. A rich Nigerian in South Africa will rather hire a fellow Nigerian as a driver or a security guard instead of helping him to get on his feet and set up a business. There is also the drug world, Nigerian drug barons go back to Nigeria and deceive unsuspecting youngsters to come to SA to work for them. When these youngsters get to SA ,the drug barons seizes their passports and force them to sell drugs for them. He gets rich while the youngster gets to go to jail.

I know a Nigerian who went back home to fetch his father’s neighbour’s daughter promising to send her to school in SA but when the girl got here ,he turned her in to maid. The girl now cooks , clean and take care of the guy’s kids. To make matters worse the guy sleeps with the girl whenever his SA wife is not around. So not only is she a maid but an intimacy gadget. Now tell me if that is not damn right evil.

I remember a few years ago when I was browsing through an ovation magazine and I saw this Nigerian billionaire in the east who built a $3million dollar home in the middle of a slum, I mean his next door neighbours had houses made from mud and the road leading to his house was muddy but he had Bentleys packed in the garage. That is the way we are, we are selfish people. As long as it does not affect me I am fine. Our new motto under madam daydreamer (akinluyi) is GOOD PEOPLE ,GREAT NATION. What is great about our nation and what is good about our people? Maybe she should have been more honest and go with "Selfish People ,Crippled Nation" .We have a long way to go and only by working together and forming progressive committees can we help our people and our nation.

Jonathan and PDP still sucks though  cry

You only need to see Ubanase's house( I hope you know him), in his hometown then I swear you will sweep. His is one in a million, but his environment including his neighbours houses are nothing to write home. Like you said, it is really selfish. Everyone wants his neigbour to bow for him/her.
shinaidowu:

Nice and thought provoking topic, but when is this NIN vs NID feud going to end. The problem IMHO is that those in Nigeria stuck here would want to blame those in Dispora for not doing anytin than complaining while those in Diaspora are so carried away with what they are seeing than coming back home to contribute their quota.Let the truth b told, those
suicide bombers believe so much in their cause hence so willing to die for it. But NIN and NID do not b
Believe in anything, the only belief we have is to get the best of life in anyway possible.Evryday you hear NID complaining about the state of the nation, yet none is ready to come home and be that tonic for change, while NIN are in the crux of the mata but too cowardly to do anything about it. The simple fact is he would rather want to suffer and smile, because God dey one day the story go better. Until we get to that point when we are ready to give our lives for what we believe, then we should all shut the hell up.Am not a fan of history, but no great country is where it is by just sitting down and frying akara, there are men and woman of courage who go out there to action their beliefs. WHAT DO U BELIEVE?

You are correct with your view regarding people NIN. We are hell bent believing that everything is the will of God. No one wants to fight for his right. "E GO BETTER and GO DEY" is now a household name.  I singled out NID because I think if there would be a great change or development, we really need everyone to put his/her head together and work out things. But I saw nothing tangible except a lot of pointing fingers and yawning mouths.

9ja4eva:

True that. Its amazing to know we have rich Nigerians home and away yet they sit and complain about everything.
If only Bill Gates was Nigerian.

I beg to differ on that point.I am not in Nigeria at the moment but i can boldly say that what Nigeria is today the innovations and technology we enjoying in that Country today was spearheaded by the Nigerians back home.Nigerians back home though  most of them are corrupt are doing their best for the Country.

The poster has a valid point in that NID don't want to do anything to make the Country a better place for all.China is the world superpower today because they believe so much in their Country. It is so hard to see a Chinese man without any investment in China. Some Nigerians abroad believe Nigeria is a living hell and do not want to be associated with the Country in anyway. If we all run away from Nigeria saying the Country can never rise.My question becomes who will be there to make Nigeria a living paradise for our children when we leave this world?I believe we in Diaspora can contribute immensely to the development of Nigeria.

Wonderful analysis poster. The truth is hard but it has to be said.

God bless you my dear. I have been studying the life of current Chinese rich people and most of them studied or once lived outside their country. They believe more in this statement “There Is No Place Like Home".  Watch a video of Tianamen Square 1989 protest and you will see how people die for the love of their country. They want to change the way things were being done in their country.

I know of a family with three daughters and a guy. They did everything and sent the guy abroad to study. But little did they know that they were sending the guy to a journey of no return. After his studies he refused to come home. The parents begged just to see him at least once but he refused.Anyway, to give him credit, he sent some pictures of his wife and kids(I believe he thought that is the most important thing to do) When the mother died, he just sent a letter to the family telling them sorry for their lost. After some years, the father died and he came back the day the father was to be buried and went back the same day.
Maybe the person is also in nairaland doing what he knows how to do best. And what is that? Yawning as usual.

Nigerians back home have no vision or they are COWARDS.

Simple as that. Why should the Nigerians in the Diaspora come back home, when our minds are not being tapped into. The nations that he mentioned, support their brightest citizens.

LIKE I SAID. NO VISION!

Nigerians hate the truth. . .

EzeUche0:

I am not getting self-righteous. I am just the harbinger of truth. The Nigerians at home, have to show the ones in the diaspora that they are ready in change. We in the Diaspora cannot bring change to Nigeria, because we will be seen as outsiders in some way.

I rather invest in a nation, that will invest in me and my family. A nation that doesn't invest in its citizens is not worthy enough for people to invest in.

My brother you are right to your view but if you ask my opinion, I think you got it wrong bro. Must Nigeria Diaspora wait until Nigeria is fix before they contribute something. That is called medicine after death.  There are some innovations/projects happening outside Nigeria which people living in Nigeria don't have the knowledge of. Suppose one of the diaspora bring such innovation home, it will be a great insight and example for people living in Nigeria. And many can sharpen their knowledge through such innovation. Take a look the history of China, before they were closed to the world. They don't communicate with the outside world much. But within 15 years since they open up to the world, accepting true technology, and allowing many of its citizens to bring home what they have learnt. Today, Chinese are no more regarded as the silly Chinko.

In the world of business/economy, ALIBABA is becoming a household name. Don't forget that he brought what he learn from outside the country and applied it within his country. Did he wait until China becomes fully ripe before he strikes? No, he just did it immediately and thereby creating many jobs for chinese people
Look at Baidu, there is no way google can beat baidu when it comes to search engine market within China. Where did he got his innovation? He got it from google and applied it within China. Did he wait until China becomes fully ripe? Nooooo. Neither did he wait for the government to develop every part of China.
Look at Iran, everyone is hearing about their nuclear plant. Do you think they learn everything within their country. Of course not, most of their scientists studied outside their country.

If only a thousand Nigeria diaspora can bring home their innovations, and applied it, Nigeria will change overnight.

andromida:

and you have the guts to call Nigerians at home cowards based on the fact that we should make the country better before almighty you can come home.are you Nigerian or not?have you ever lived in Nigeria?

Have you heard of the likes of Ghandi? If you want to make a change you really do not need us you just need to have a conviction and believe and commitment that it can be done.so dnt sit on your high horse and ask Nigerians at home to make it good enough for you before you contribute to the growth and development of your country, you sound better off in the diaspora.

The diapora you are so happy to live in was moved forward on the blood of a courageous few and others caught on.

Thank you my brother. Most of the great nations got their ideas and technology from another country greater than them. They moved back and fight for their motherland. Read about the founders of United State. Do you know how it came to be? It is because of the decisions be by 5 men who is ready to die for the sake of his country people. Their decisions beat British. And now most of their descendants are enjoying the fruit of their labour. But here our case is different, no one care about the country. And none is ready to to scarify.
Nigeria is just like a lady being cheated by her husband and the same husband will be the first to fight with anyone who call his wife a funny name.
Politics / 3/4 Of Nigerian Diaspora Lack Insight by pdone: 12:19pm On Oct 25, 2010
I have seen and read a lot of posts both on nairaland and other forums, of people pointing accusing fingers at the government. I acknowledge that our government sucks but I think 3/4 of Nigerian Diaspora suck big time.

One great important thing of traveling/ living in another country is to learn the people's culture, technology, way of life, etc and applied the good ones when you return to your motherland. But when it comes to Nigerian Diaspora, the case is different. Most have made it a call of duty to sit in front of their system and yawn all day without an action. In most countries, you will see Nigeria Diaspora holding meetings and called themselves one name or the other. Believe me they have been holding that meeting even before Jesus was born and they will keep on holding it until His Kingdom Come.

Most Nigerians outside the country has two dominant dream/desire.
1.) To build a house
2.) To buy a car.

Tell me, how can I live in the house when I haven't find a job? It is not hard to see a Nigeria Diaspora driving a car worth the price of 4m, still has about 3 more packing in his car port and living in a house of gold but just a stone throw, is a waste area smelling like a three months dead baby. Suppose he sell the three cars, and use the money in fixing his environment regardless of whether his neighbours contribute or not. But hell no he won't do it; but he is ready to wait for the government to include his environment in the next budget.

Taking a look at countries like China, India,Brazil, Mexico and some other developing countries, most of their citizens studied abroad and went back home for actions. They applied their knowledge, their money, their time, and some can even scarify their life. But push the ball to Nigerian Diaspora, his/her first target is to gain permanent resident, nationalize, buy a computer and connect to internet. The next day, he/she will start yawning on nairaland.

I'm tired of seeing the likes of Philip Emekwali appearing on bbc or other news network and start yawning about Nigeria condition. I can bet my last dime that he hasn't step his foot on Nigeria soil for the past 10years nor has he contributed anything to the country.

Like I said earlier, not all Nigeria Diaspora but it is really had to find the few that are willing to scarify for the betterment of Nigeria.

The case of Nigeria is the case of a cow under the care of one thousand men. Guess what will happen to the cow, it will surely die. The reason is this, Mr A will say that it is Mr B's turn to feed the cow today. Mr B will tell Mr C to help him with the feeding because he get's important appointment. But unfortunately, Mr C forget and at noon Mr D will take his bowl to get some milk from the cow.

I wipe for the cow. May God have mercy on that cow.

@ Poster

I almost wanted to lash out at you for generalizing all Nigerian men based on a few rotten eggs, however, I re-read your post and realized that if I must reply objectively, then I have no choice other than to agree with you. Having lived in this country for a few years, I know about and have heard about lots of men who are guilty of the acts you stated and it is really sad how a lot of Nigerian men blame Nigerian women for the same things they(men) do and put them(women) all in one basket while disregarding their(men) own sins.

But if we analyze the situation based on our societal and cultural values, we will easily see that women are generally not treated equally as men(not that they are anywhere in the world), and to assume that a woman could engage in activities normally and solely dominated by men or to condemn men for engaging in such activities would definitely result in the backlash you are getting right now.

Nevertheless, for having the courage to speak up, I dash one big GBOSA!

Thank you my brother. I wonder why some people here keep on shouting on me. Like I mentioned somewhere, I said "Nigeria men" just to let our men see how our ladies feel when someone say "Nigeria girls". If they say some girls, then that will look proper.

Anyway that your pic na die. Na really counter attack.

It can be 100% real that he loves you. It can also be 100% real that he doesn't love you.  To understand more about him, you need to check the kind of friends he has, the kind of life he lives, and what he thinks of the future.
If I'm in your shoes, there are some few things I have to consider,

1.) If he don't have a valid papers to stay in China, that is a problem because he can be deported any time.
2.) I will consider my age and the guy's age, to avoid being old while waiting for someone that doesn't have bearing.
3.) I will avoid giving him money to see his reactions towards me.

If my answers is of any help or you think I can help you with the Nigeria culture, you can add me on qq.

In this WORLD,whatever things against Nigerian guys or ladies you have mentioned above are also being done by people from different countries. They have their own reasons of doing such. It's no longer our fault but that's how they wanna manage their lives.Just try to do good things to yourself and others and God will bless you more, Cheers!

Thank you so much. This is the very thing I'm hammering about.

My brother I just  explain why I said " Nigeria Guys" here
pdone:

I'm not trying to generalizing. I just put the words "Nigeria guys" to let some people understand how it feels when you are included in something that you don't do. Or should I said it is just a way of telling my fellow brothers that saying " Nigeria girls" is not proper. It will be proper if they say "Some girls".

Shouldn't you be spending more time improving your english skills, rather than looking around for cheap men?Methinks you priorities are misplaced. . . seriously

I think you have a peanut in that your thick skull. Stop deluding yourself by calling that thing you got there, a brain. A man of your size should understand better that speaking English well doesn't equate smartness nor intelligent. Maybe that is what your dictionary tells you.

And mind you, I know my own language the way a baby knows his mothers n,i.p,p.l,e.

Most posts/posters here keep on condemning Nigeria girls as being cheap, gold diggers and hungry. But come to think of it, I think our guys are worst.

Haven't you heard of Nigeria guys going abroad to marry a lady the size of a parachute all in the name of papers

Haven't you heard of Nigeria guys marrying someone the age of his mother all in the name of money/papers

Haven't you heard of Nigeria guys dating sugar mums all in the name of money

Haven't you heard of Nigeria guys pretending to be in love with a girl just because the girl comes from a rich background and can provide everything he wants

Is there no place where guys are paid to have s, e, x with a lady?

I know a guy who suck pu, ss, y for more than 6years and now he is living large through the money he made.

Find Me Guilty If You Haven't Heard Any of the above.

I'm sick and tired of someone coming here and start crucifying Nigeria girls. Before you judge, check it from all angles; yourself included. And mind you, before you say Nigeria girls, please make sure that what you are trying to say don't exist elsewhere in the world.

It is not a matter of being a Nigeria girl but an individual behaviour. Stop generalizing all in the name of gaining attention. Our girls deserved some respect.
