Could it be that he wants to or has started teething? Cos I know some babies pass stool when their teething process is about to start. Keep him hydrated always and you can take him to the clinic to prevent being too worried

I'm sorry, I was off NL for some days.

The stooling has reduced to thrice a day and its getting bulkier.
I gave him very thick pap....further thickened by Nutribom. I don't know if I'm correct but it seems to be hardening his poop a bit.
I also give him lots of water (he loves water more than breastmilk) after each feed.

Does the poo sink completely into the diaper? Please you can stop the SMA for now till poo normalise but breastfeed him more. I know of raw pap therapy but i don't if a 6 months old can use it.

No it doesn't sink completely...like you would see the mucus part of it on the diapers. I have stopped the SMA gold too but it has continued
Whenever he poops...you can actually hear his stomach rumbling and the gush of the watery poop. Much like the way you would have diarrhea and your stomach will be rumbling. The poop has a distinct foul smell.
He's appetite is still fine and he takes plenty water. He never says no to water..prefers it to breastmilk actually..in fact I restrict the water cos I fear he may be taking too much cos of his age (6months). the frequent poop has still continued..I have stopped all solids...just breastmilk and ors + zinc and water. Is there something else I can do?

Hello Mothers and Pops.

My 6month old son has been stooling since Tuesday (6 times in 24h)... At first I felt it was the potato and beans I gave him cos the poo was yellowish. I started giving him ors and zinc plus plenty water. He loves water. Then I introduced SMA gold to his pap and the stool worsened plus changed color to greenish black strewn with mucus. I noticed the change in his stooling and stopped the SMA gold but it has continued.
I don't know what to do again... He has lost a bit of weight but his playfulness is still topnotch. His apetite and sleeping is normal.
What else can I do to stop the stooling or should I take him to see a doctor?

My son sucks his hands and I must tell you its something I hate so much but dh refused me to stop him claiming hell stop on his own but he didn't.He'd never suck unless at midnight when really hungry. I suffered engorgement several times.
Recently I went gangster on him when his teeth start curving inwards.now they fell off at 4plus. Imagine!

The young man seems to be having fun.. Lol. I personally believe that you should try substituting his thumb with your nipple. In other words, when you see him sucking his thumb allow him breastfeed. Also consider timed feeding even though as much as he would take. Possibly every 3 hours...

Regarding caput what I believe he has is Cephahematoma, it will get absorbed and dissolve gradually most definitely before he's one since it is already becoming hard.

1. Get him Mittens to wear. You don't want a sucking baby, they don't like eating, AT ALL! It also ruins their dentition, so curb it while you can.

2. When he's sucking, does he get enough milk? Sometimes when the sucking is hard on them, it discourages them. Some babies are lazy suckers.
I'll advise you to pump the milk out and feed him with bottles. He should suck like 4 times a day then support with bottles.

3. He's 4m means he'll soon start complimentary feeding, he might just be looking for a change of meals. Lol.

4. Keep calm, children's feeding pattern are mostly related to growth spurts. At this age, their body metabolism determines how hungry they get so when his metabolism is in full drive, he'll eat a lot and you'll see the effect in a growth spurt. After reaching the peak of his spurt, he slows down metabolism and his feeding pattern will slow down too.


Try the bottle and see if you can rule out the sucking issue first.
If he rejects bottle, try spoon.
If he ejects both, get a formula for him and see if he'll accept it.
I know it's your dream to ebf but if the person you want to ebf for says no, maami, you have to change tactics for his sake.

I have no idea about caput, sorry.

I will try expressing. My hubby wasn't in support of expressing cos he feels somehow the milk won't be fresh. But I will convince him.

As for mittens...sometimes I even wear him up to three layers of mittens on his hands... Yet he will suck comfortably with everything on as if its sugar u put on his hand... If u remove the mittens eh, you can literally squeeze out saliva from it.
And yes. The suckling drastically reduced his demand for breast.

Around this time, it is quite normal for some babies. They are now aware of their environment, every sound and movement interests them.

When you want to feed, take him to a quiet room with dim lights. Alternatively, you can express and spoon feed or bottle feed. Also at this point, you might notice he sucks more at night, kinda making up for the scanty feeding during the day.

About the pain, maybe he is superman

Hello Mama...for my son... I hold him tight and just pour his not too hot bathing water directly on his anus constantly, he will start farting smelly farts and then poo all the 3 - 5 days poop he had been holding. My mum taught me this!... Or you can just leave him to poop on his own time when he wants. Its normal for babies to not poop for some days even when they make grunting noises.

I dont think there is cause for alarm.

I am a ftm. My dear son is 4months old. I noticed he has reduced the way he eats... He would feed for a short while and then remove his mouth. Its usually a struggle to get him back to the breast... He used to cry a lot but after 2months...hardly cries even if he is hungry or taking immunization injections...not even when he rolled down from our bed...I met him on the floor smiling at me. He just likes to laugh and babble a lot with lots of gestures... Its usually a fight to get him to suck...
Its surprising cos He was once a foodie...his birth weight was 4kg and he had been adding weight ever since but...
at 10weeks immunization he weighed 6.4kg...and weighed 6.2kg at 14weeks immunization... Because that was when the reluctancy to eat started.
I don't really know what to do...it's totally draining. He is exclusively breastfed and he is now four months yet he will keep laughing and SUCKING HIS THUMB ALL DAY... if u don't force him to suck breast.

I am very worried!!!

Secondly...he had caput at birth... The softness has hardened but the swelling is still there even at 4months. Will the swelling still go down to rhyme with the shape of his head??

Liftedhands:
Caput is caused by birth trauma during delivery. It's pressure on the head as the baby trys to come out of the birth canal, or when forceps and suction aid is used to help baby out. It's nothing to worry about and yes it usually resolve by itself from a few days to 6 weeks, but in some cases it will require the use of an infant cranial helmet.

Some massage the head to mould it to shape but it's highly not encouraged due to lack of expertise and may cause injury to the new born.

Go back to your doctor and have them evaluate your baby to rule out other complications and advise on next step.

It's generally nothing to worry about and you can disguise the head with a baby cap if people's opinion will bother you.


The rashes could be newborn acne and this too clears by itself. Just keep baby comfortable and not to swaddled in heavy fabric.

Hello Mothers

I am a FTM with a 2wk old son. I noticed soon after his birth a large bulge on one side of his head that is soft and gives his head and awkward shape. The nurses said its caput and will clear after a few days but we are two weeks now and the bulge is still very much there.... Please anyone experienced this?
Also, my baby suddenly developed acne some days back and its spread allover his face plus he has some on his neck that is larger in size and seems to be peeling off... What can i do to clear them?

Please sabi mamas help me especially the caput issue... Have u faced such before with your Los.

Our dear son came on Sunday, 19th April, at 1:48pm via Vaginal delivery with minimal tears after nearly 4hours of extreme labour pains, weighing 4kg.
