The University of Calabar Community is in a high spirit to receive Nigeria Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo today 25th June, 2015.
The Vice President is expected to be among the three Guest Speakers in a memorial lecture scheduled for the Unical International Conference Centre by 10:00am today.
Other Guest Speakers are the former Minister of Education Dr. Oby Ezekwesili and former Gov. of Cross River State Mr. Donald Duke.
The Institution is on a stand still, with high expectations. I'll be there, you can join me aswel.

Ever wonder why some students read very hard every semester but surprisingly fail their exams at the end of it all?
Such students read almost every day and night and are perceived by their mates as hardworking students who deserve to succeed academically; however, their poor grades keep surprising them and everyone else.
If you study hard and your grades seem not to reflect your hard work, then its time you stop working hard and start working smart.
Here are some reasons why some students study hard but fail.
1. Upholding hard work while neglecting smart work
Hard work is good but hard work when done smartly is far better and produces greater result.
Hard work starts with reading and ends with more reading.
Students who uphold hard work while neglecting smart work believe they must read every note, text-book, handout and all materials they can get to be able to pass.
On the other hand, smart work involves reading and settling back to self-examine whether what is being read is really required for passing exams.
Students who seem to read less but still perform excellently well have been able to combine smart work and hard work. They are able to smartly figure out what they need to read to pass. They know they don’t have to read all the textbooks in the library to be able perform well.
2. Not knowing when it’s enough
Studying saps energy. When you become tired while reading it is important you take a break, take a walk or go watch TV before returning to your books.
Most students read hard and fail because they stay glued to their books even when they’re exhausted and need rest. In such condition everything they’ll be reading stops making sense but they continue nonetheless.
3. Having difficulty prioritizing what’s important
Not all courses or subjects are read the same. Seemingly difficult subjects or courses should be given higher priority. Also, courses that are prerequisites are more important than electives and thus must be given more priority as we study.
4. Focusing on “I don’t want to fail” instead of “I want to pass”
This is a mind game. Winners always focus their minds on winning.
From personal experience, I see that most students who read more than others but still fail do their read out of fear. They afraid of failing hence they often say things like: “I don’t want to fail”. Fear is their motivation.
The solution to is to focus our minds on “I want to pass” so I’ll read.
5. Putting their books first and themselves second
They read all day and night while they forget about the need to take care of themselves. Haven’t you seen those who read from the first day of resumption to the last week of lectures only to fall sick in the week of exams? They stress and wear themselves out.
6. They read all the time instead of at ‘their right time’
There is often the ‘right time’ to read for every student. This is often the time of the day when you are able to grasp and understand more as you read. For some their right time to read is at night.
Students who read hard and still fail read at all times even when it’s not necessary.
At the end of the day, they are perceived to be serious and hardworking students but they have no results to show for their labour.

INEC is now better prepared to conduct this election, (all thanks to the earlier postponement.) this not withstanding, I don't want to hear any other postponement rather, all I want to hear is post election reports.

Jay Jay Okocha becomes Delta FA chair
Former Nigeria captain Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha has successfully transitioned from player to administrator as he won election as chairman of the Delta State Football Association on Friday.
Okocha, 41, polled 26 out of 27 votes to win the seat and replace Amaju Pinnick who vacated the role after becoming president of the Nigeria Football Federation September 2014.

It was during a test in my final year, there had been this beautiful girl I hoped we would date but later just became friends, it was fin 413(finance), this girl seem to forget her formula and she began fretting, I knew the question only too much because I practiced that particular question very well, we were given 1hr, I finished under 30mins and resorted to helping people out, naturally the girl came to mind first, I started telling her the formulas (and did not realize the main lecturer of the course had walked in and was seeing everything I was doing), he motioned the invigillator who later realized what I was doing, na so this invigilator carry am for head o, he took my paper, tore it, and said he would make sure that I never graduate that year,(he was taking us agric finance,a prerequisite) that I will fail his course (even the lecturer that owns the course was like;wat da?, you dey beef this boy before?),he walked me out, (and me no send, I no even beg am) he later chased after me, said I would face dept panel, he said as long as he was living, I would not graduate, (funny part was I did not finch, I was just staring at him like I was watching a movie, all I needed was popcorn),even the owner of the course was pleading on my behalf ( I was one of his best students). He later even cancelled that test (because there was mass failure) and did anoda which I was the highest.

Then alas

His (the invigilator) course was removed from prerequisite and was made optional, he had accident and he was changed, I still went ahead and did his course (we were only 4 students and another lecturer took the lecture) and guess what? I conquered the dude!

Abeg, you guys should just stop all these degree and class of degree talk already. It's annoying! After putting all effort to graduate well and be distinguished, up till now 2.1 has not fetched any good job.

Bact then, I have this female friend from another dept., on the verge of 3rd class. I had to start studying with her so she could be motivated. She finally graduated with a low 2.2 and now she is working. Her uncle is a minister, and now "she dey hardly pick my call again sef".

I know of another mate who graduated with a 3rd class, but now working with a big oil company(I dunno know her position sha).

No by 2.1 or 1st class o(but then whatever that is worth doing at all is worth doing well - one of my mantras).


I made a decision not to "struggle" for job again after I almost lost my life last year, when going for an aptitude test in Lagos from Abuja(EY).

Robbers and other people with bad intentions go on a mission and come back successfully, why should my life be endanger when I had not evil intention, but was only trying to take advantage of an opportunity that would better my life.

I have always gone an extra mile just to be outstanding in all that I do. Right now, I think it's high time God should please proove himself. I have surrendered on to him because, right now, it seems my strength can't help me no more.

Here comes the BIG QUESTION. . . How did you get that 2.1 of yours?
