The Federal Vetting Agency's job is not to clear corruption in Nigeria. There Job is to collate the assets of would be public office in a center registry which is open to the public. If you declare that you have one house and 3 years down the line it was discovered you have 2 other houses those 2 houses will be confistacated. Its a no brainer. You have ABC and all of a sudden it was found you have DEFG this undeclared assets will be confisticated and sold and proceeds put back in the coffers of the state or LG as the case may be.
I am surprised you are still vetting. When 'armed robbers' star killing vetters one after the other with no one getting caught and brought to book, the remaining vetters will have no choice but to advice themselves.

Don't waste your time and money; just take them back to their home town and publicly execute them.

And watch miracle in Nigeria in a very short period.
You will automatically become a pariah in the international community and most unpopular at home. That Govt wont last long. We have seen it all before.

The depth of corruption in Nigeria, has no bottom. Unprecedented in the history of government.

Even then they stand a chance of being corrupted themselves

Vetting Agency workers will be the 1st person to be vetted as they are employed.

There salary is in the public domain If an Agency worker on say N50,000.00 a month was found to have N2million in his account he will not only be sacked he will also serve time inside Jail.
If the infrastructure against corruption is weak- from the police, Judiciary even prisons, the guy walks. Do you know in Nigeria drug couriers who have passed through the whole lenght of the criminal justice system routinely pay their way out of jail? Yeah its that bad. People get away with murder in Nigeria everyday not to talk of public money that is believed not to belong to anybody.

We want dedicated officers, if Obasanjo can wake up one day and establish EFCC, I see know reason why Yaradua cannot set up the Federal Vetting Agency with a dedicated task of vetting all politcal office holders plus heads of Goverment parastalas like customs, Ports Authority e.t.c
This is idealistic. It wont hold water under the current atmosphere and culture of corruption we have unless of course if the vetters are non Nigerians. Even then they stand a chance of being corrupted themselves. Another fall out of this is more money will be required to scale through in order to become a public office holder further fuelling corruption.

Solution? Build on anti corruption infrastructure, attack the culture of corruption and finally stigmatize corruption.

All those noise makers are no more important than market women or butchers, how come they are not allocating lands to market women and butchers for free? What right does the government have to dispose the people's resources to who ever is in their good book?

Most of us are mouthing loud about corrupt system but still think it is right for government to bend the rules sometimes.ANIMAL FARM

See me see trouble oh! Does everyone own land ONLY where they work? Even if we accepted such a ludicrous reason, does The Guardian not have an Abuja Bureau/Office that the Editor will visit from time to time ?

Are only civil servants allowed or expected to own land in Abuja??

Entitlement? Maybe, but there are hundreds of thousands of people who have secured allocations in Abuja without any fuss, why is this a different case? Granted not everyone is allocated choice land in Abuja, but not everyone is allocated choice land anywhere - Must my dad now pack out of his 'choice' land in Lagos because not everyone has land there?  huh

He paid for the land he got allocated - there is NOTHING special or corrupt at that. If the Editor (or CEO) of a Newspaper cannot get ONE piece of land  HE PAID FOR without defending himself, what is the world coming to?

This is idle rumour mongering. Yes there is evidence of allocation - that is not in denial. But except for the fertile imagination of the Saharareporters, there is nothing to suggest corruption. WHY SHOULD HE NOT ACCEPT ALLOCATION OF LAND IN ABUJA? Give me ONE cogent reason.

Ordinary people have land allocations from the same body, why not Abati? Is being an editor now a crime that you can't buy land anymore??
This is begging the question. It is also unfortunately, an irrelevant digression. And people wonder why this country cant move forward? How can it when its elite passionately defend, condone, support and even celebrate blatantly corrupt acts.

Ruben Abati is not any more entitled to that piece of Land than pennywise or any other Nigerian who earns a living through honest means. It is futile to attempt to defend passing lands that have true market value in some cases exceeding N100m to individuals for a pittance on account of Government fiat and then regard that as legitimate transaction. If this is not corruption, then I dont know what is.

Government allocation of land often meant for public use to individuals is one of the yawning acts of corruption in Nigeria today costing the Nation huge amounts of revenue. There are people ready at short notice to pay 10 times whatever Abati paid to Government for that Land for whatever purpose the Government deems the property be utilized.

We dont hear of Governments dealing favours (read bribe) to known critics in advanced democracies this way.The way it is now, Abati has been compromised and so he is incompetent to speak against this act of corruption or any other. Infact whatever he says now is suspect which is why he should be sacked.Of a more subtle danger he constitutes is the fact that he could use his position in the Guardian to censor articles against this and other forms of corruption in this Government.
Politics › Re: "dr Reuben Abati Breaks His Silence " by Pennywise(m): 6:48pm On Feb 17, 2009
As a keen admirer of Ruben Abati I have to say I have been let down not once but twice in the light of the above. It is bad enough that his weakness allowed him to accept an obvious Greek gift if not a down right bribe payment (for which he should be arrested without delay and investigated), the above cheeky reaction (which he has not disowned yet) is adding salt to the injury of a wounded populace who had trust in him.

Indeed the beautiful ones like they say are not yet born. Abati cannot pretend to be on the side of the masses and at the same time be accepting largesse from a hopelessly corrupt Government he earns a living criticizing. His standing has been diminished irretrievably by this scandal as well as that of his employers the Guardian.Ruben Abati should be sacked if he fails to resign.

Olusegun Adeniyi with whom he draws a corollary indeed is a professional journalist but he works for the Government now and everyone knows that unlike the mole that Abati has turned out to be.

His reaction rather than earn him any sympathy has caused him more damage. He should have kept very quiet and allowed it all to blow away like those he has made a career pursuing

N17bn Fraud: EFCC Arraigns 6 Ex-Bank Officials

01.30.2009

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EF-CC) yesterday arraigned six former top officials of Bank PHB Plc at a Magistrate court in Abuja over alleged N17 billion fraud.
The officials, said to have been asked to resign from the bank late last year, include two executive directors and four other managers among them are Mrs. Mary Akpopone and Funmi Ademosu.
THISDAY gathered that the finance firm through which the alleged fraud was perpetrated had a standing credit facility with Bank PHB.
Going by the credit arrangement in which the two executive directors were directly involved, the finance company was granted unlimited access to cash upon presentation of cheques from blue chip companies.
Under the arrangement, Bank PHB does not have to wait for cheques to clear before advancing credit.
THISDAY gathered that the said finance firm having observed the loopholes in the credit arrangement opened fictitious company accounts with other banks and started issuing cheques to Bank PHB, which in turn advanced credit to the tune of N17 billion.
About N10 billion of the fund was said to have been recovered by Bank PHB, which lodged complaints to the EFCC.
A source in EFCC told THISDAY last night that the six suspects were arraigned in a court in Abuja yesterday but declined to give details.
However, hearing will resume in the case on February 19.
Meanwhile, the former bank officials are to remain in EFCC custody till that date.
If any one has any information on this evolving PHB drama, let him share.

Tkb, I will come for your balls later.

Perhaps your thread would have gained more attention and purposeful contribution if you had adopted a more open topic.Believe me a lot of people coming to NL dont give a damn if PHB pays their cleaners a half million naira a month.I believe you opened the thread for the good of the larger society. It is doubtful if a few people seeking jobs will help a great deal in bringing about desired changes.

In many ways a lot of people have benefitted from the use of this forum. By this I mean far reaching profound and even life changing benefits through facts, infos, innuendos etc picked up on certain threads on NL.

I feel pained because this thread had the potential of being one of those especially to peeps who have a reason (in my own case two very important reasons) to be interested. Save for one purposeful feedback, it has been led completely off track by ego tripping folks parading dubious credentials with the active connivance of a fellow that is rapidly gaining notoriety for pandering.

This behaviour is a recognized pattern on NL. It is unproductive and its a waste of time. I believe the OP had much more useful information to share until he was blackmailed out of this thread. Those laying claim to superior wisdom fail to see that nobody on NL is a toddler waiting to be spoonfed. Jon o jon and tkb, you have done this small community of Nigerians a lot of disservice.

This is a very familiar refrain from bankers but they hardly ever get to leave.Even those employed on contract with abysmally poor remunerations and working conditions hope some day their employment will be reviewed.

There is hardly any segment of our labour industry that is not going through stress. The beauty about working in a bank is that you have yourself a job and a career.Mobility in the industry is so high that sometimes I feel the employers are the ones disadvantaged.

Generally speaking, breathing tend to be easier the higher you go up the ladder in any profession. My advice to you and the like mind is that you should exercise patience and wait. Your time will come.

I want to agree with OP, but the problem is that an erect penis doesnt know neither does it care if a girl is broke or not neither can it (erect penis) be ignored.

In fact there are some joysticks that wont even stand up if a girl is too rich but this is understandable if the natural concept of opposite attraction is considered.

LOL,  (try not to get personal when debating in a public forum, its unscientific, unprofessional and unethical)
Even though some will find the above patronizing and condescending of Penfold, I nevertheless welcome it.If you had said "you may be wrong because the CDC wont certify a teratogeic/carcinogenic drug. . . ." you would have saved both of us a lot of time rather than "Wrong!!! If its a carcinogen or teratogen, u can be sure the patent wouldn't fly in the US, every drug patented and marketed by licensed pharmaceutical companies gets certified by CDC".One is left with no option but assume that you are infallible and in some way truly linked to the supernatural as your location suggests.

Secondly, I havent said pennywise is a scientist neither have I said I am a professional of any kind. The operative ethic I am aware of right now is NL ethic which allows me to shit on your head. Thank you.

Before a candidate molecule tagged new molecular entity(NME) is submitted for clinical trial, it must have satisfied certain criteria one of which is selectivity. Because the cell from different organs of the body differ significantly, it is posible for a certain NME  to bind selectively to this cells. besides for a drug to act, it has to bind to a receptor . . .bla bla

Anyway you do not need to fear, clinical trials will help to an extent to detect any untoward effect. Survelliance continues after market intoduction.

At least accept it for once, naija is moving ahead
We have to accept that there is some degree of selectivity otherwise the drug is a useless and a dangerous poison.

Perhaps it is too early and a waste of time to comment on a mystery drug. In time we will get to know more. Healthy criticisms of this type only helps to bring out the best from researchers. We cannot hope in a hundred years to reach the level of critical appraisal obtainable in the US-some of which are meant to create doubt, others to damage outright and reduce to nullity painstaking work that has taken a lot of time, money and effort. But they are by far better for it.

Wrong!!! If its a carcinogen or teratogen, u can be sure the patent wouldn't fly in the US, every drug patented and marketed by licensed pharmaceutical companies gets certified by CDC (the clinical trials you were referring to) , and you can be sure they will treat anything coming out of Nigeria with extra care and diligence. I dont have the details of the "wonder drug" but then any pharmacist/medical scientist/researcher worth his salt would first check for the carcinogenic properties of any cell regenerating compound!!!!
My opinionated friend from Zion, if the CDC gets it wrong on this occasion will it be the first time in the history of that body. Have certification and drugs not been withdrawn more than a dozen times in the past. Are you not aware that there are CDC licensed drugs in the market with strict warning about teratogenic properties? Think about this and you will probably come away with the possibility that even someone from zion can be wrong and misleading.

If it is true this drug acts by regenerating lost cells then it should be treated with a lot of suspicion because it may also regenerate other cells unconnected with diabetes making it a carcinogen or teratogen.

There have been drugs like that in the past.If that is the case it had better not make it through clinical trials or the country Nigeria will only sink further deeper in global reckoning no thanks to Dr Obio Obio.
