Sapphic:
Says who? Look, I always say to people, define the relationship you are going into. If I am going into a relationship for the sex, then I know that is what I want and that is what I will get. What use will it be to the poster if she is thinking that this relationship can lead somewhere when all the guy probably wants is to use her as a hit-and-run or booty call? If she just wants to shag him, then that's fine. For her sake, I hope she does not go blindly into this. As my people say, It is from the daytime that you will know how the night is going to be. So poster be aware.
Look every guy needs shagging- you have to beware of the rare occassional dude who says he doesnt.Having said that you can get all of his heart while he meets his shagging needs elsewhere. It takes exceptional stroke of good fortune for such arrangement to lead to marriage.

Sapphic:
Guys are used to chasing/toasting girls, and believe me when a guy really really wants you, he will spend a great deal of time (and resources) trying to get you to be his girlfriend. The guy telling you he loves you after one day is enough for you uto read the writing on the wall. It is up to you whether you cut your losses now and deal with your little heartbreak or let the guy use you good and proper only to dump you in the end. It is your decision, but a word is enough for the wise.
If you take Sapphic advise, you will be 38 and still be waiting for that guy who really really . . . . . .The issue of having been used when a relationship goes bust has no real meaning in modern day application. Afterall you were not bethrotted.
Romance › Re: What Do U Make Of These: Pls? by Pennywise(m): 10:42am On Jan 18, 2009
@OP
You obviously love this guy. So you have to do what you can to make it work between you.

First, Let him know you love him. That disarms most guys completely.Manifest this love by your presence, attention and communication and then try to know him. Many potentially great relationships have been marred by unnecessary show of ego.But the most important thing is knowing if the guy has good values, decent and respectful of people. In order words if he has shame. Some guys are cold blooded and simply dont have shame.Continuing on that path with a guy like that who doesnt appreciate you will amount to forcing ur self on him which is not good whether it works out or not.

Yes it is possible he is upset you played too hard to get. I can relate to a guy getting upset when a girl does that. I did waste my time and money on one, once. She was still running not knowing I had cut her loose. When she looked back I was far gone and it was time for her to do the chase. And what a frustrating chase it was.

You are obviously intimidated by this guy. Mentally you have been defeated by him. Leave  this babe alone b/c an even bigger embarrassment awaits when you find your staff of office succumbing to gravity at that critical moment.

In the days of yore men used to prove their superiority not by fights but by seizing the wives their adversaries and having offspring through them. Ultimate victory. For this task my friend, you are mentally ill equipped.

A close friend and I were having a drink the other day.I have come to know him as stock phobic never having anything good to say abt the capital market and those of us who have been there. At the end of the third bottle he confessed to me that during the boom he had secured a N2m credit to finance the purchase of stocks. And since the terrain is unfamiliar to him, his choices turned out to be awful. He is servicing loan on one hand while his portfolio has shrunk to N375,000.

Excellent, well scripted. You are at least 10 times more visionary than anyone in Fashola's cabinet and would have done a whole lot better governing Lagos. But perhaps you should have made waste disposal your No 1 objective because Lagosians are practically soffocating in their own waste-all sorts. The worst form of pollution is to be found in that city.CCTV ko.
Nobody is hoping for this project to fail. we are only helping point out things that if done would enable it succeed.

there are camera's stationed on carter bridge, a car looses control, flips a few times and ends up in the water because there are no guard rails on the bridge to help hold it back. by the way, all this was caught on camera. what would be the advantage of catching it on camera while it happened, if LASAMBUS, cannot reach the scene in the next 5 minutes, to get the victims out of the water before they drown, lets assume the impact of the flips wasn't enough to take their lives. by the way, non of the LASAMBUS service personnel knows how to swim.
Where things are done properly, Fashola will be held criminally liable, tried and sent to jail for misapplying funds and causing wrongful death. All these exitement about CCTV will probably last 3mths but the negative consequences will last for years. Its hard to imagine how a state blessed with some of the best brains will end up with these.

cheesy
Of course you have to assume that Lagos will come under some imaginary flood lights at night, that wont go off (this is where you cant have light for 6 str hrs day or night).
Politics › Re: Lagos Launches 24-hr Surveillance Camera Operation by Pennywise(m): 2:23pm On Jan 15, 2009
It is pointless wasting my time here stating the obvious. This is a state where most bridges have no railings because they have been excised and sold for food. By Fashola's own admission, the project has failed by saying that 30,000 men cant police 18 million people. Why the hell CCTV?This policy surely brings out for all to see the quality of governance that state is getting. I mean it is ludicrous.

It calls to question the issue of succession into public office in Nigeria. Not enough attention is being paid to pedigree and background. The highest offices go to the loudest, visionless praise singers who wouldnt rock the boat.Looking beyond Fashola at the lady behind him- a level 8 school teacher with zero background, uninspiring information commissioner I knew way back, infact the entire cabinet has zilch to offer. They should reverse their step immediately if the want to be taken seriously.

@tkb, Goodness and afam
I appeal to you all to sheath the sword.Lets not forget the essence of this thread which is how you have been affected by the downturn certainly not who is right or wrong abt investment principle. A German billionaire committed suicide a few days ago on account of the global financial meltdown. This is supposed to be a healing thread and not a destructive one.

It kind of reminds me of a once popular thread on this forum where a bunch of school leavers felt they were always right and infact could move the market with their prediction. They eventually took their frustration elsewhere only to come back with other usernames.

Let us stop trying to undo ourselves. No one is obliged to accept anybody's point of view. If you were not affected by the market at all fine. You may want to render a word of advice to enable others heal.

It is also wrong to tow the path of denial because people are in pain. Some folks sold houses to finance stock purchase now they have been left with sour taste in their mouth. Many are battling severe depression, hypertension, etc. There have also been serious social consequences.Fortunately I have not heard of any suicide here because such things are not in our nature.
Business › Re: NSE Market Downturn: How Have You Been Affected? by Pennywise(m): 5:27pm On Jan 14, 2009
I got out of the market (90% holdings) early june when losses were still minimal-not because I saw any ominous sign but out of sheer anger and frustration with my bank. I had requested for a loan equivalent of their stock I had in order for me to possess a beautiful bride.

Despite the best effort of the BM and deputy, the matter stalled at the desk of one big man for a month.I felt betrayed. Anyway, I spat at their face liquidated the whole damn thing along with a fixed asset (painfully) and then became a happy husband again.I lost some good friends along the way but in business like diplomacy, there cant be parmanent friends.

In summary I can say I was saved by my impatience. And predictably the remaining 10% including UBA I bought at N50 have since turned to rubbles.

I have to agree with afam. Whether you are making an informed decision by researching a company before investing or pulling the lever on a slot machine, fundamentally you are taking a risk with a view to achieve a positive outcome. Some folks forget that you can also make an informed decision when gambling like card counting by proffessionals.

How hypocritical can one be?
You want your nation to move forward yet you were so quick to write off a whole region even though they were the hardest hit in the 2007 electoral fraud.

It is foolish and insane to think that the "failure of leadership in the east was the reason why some faceless guys showed up and expressed their freedom of speech. Did they in any way tell you that they have ties with Ohaneze? Do you know the stands of ohaneze on iwu and the 2007 election?
Pray, tell us how the leadership in your various regions have succeeded? Tell us how they've impacted your lives?
I also want to believe that you are still a kid to think that iwu was the major problem behind the 2007 electoral fraud. He was a common tool pick from nowhere to act a script.

Many nigerians still do not doubt soyinka's impeccable contributions to nation building, but are simply asking whether what those paid league of professionals said about his romance with abacha and obj was true or false.
Or, is soyinka above cautioning because he spoke for the people most times in the past?
Even if it is assumed that Iwu did not collect bribe in the conduct of the last election his failure to account for the billions of naira appropriated and supposedly utilized for that purpose is enough to hang him. You are free to go with him to the gallows as your final act of loyalty.
Politics › Re: 'soyinka Talks Too Much' by Pennywise(m): 12:50pm On Jan 13, 2009
I have no choice but to wonder why our brothers from that part of the country are so prone to being used in what is clearly a retrogressive and unwholesome enterprise. When you juxtapose that reality with the fact that they are at the recieving end of the stick in all things material- infrastructure, roads, healthcare etc in a failing Nigerian state you just cant help but wonder.

Dr Obisike need to know that people like Soyinka have spent a life trying to ensure that we have a semblance of a state in this jungle by fighting authoritarianism and corruption in all forms. Wole Soyinka a celebrated intellectual who had access to the seat of power continuously (and ample opportunity to make money) from age of 25yrs but remained a tenant at age 50yrs is not in the same league with ‘Prof’ Iwu a rent-seeking intellectual scum who has no documentary evidence of a first degree certificate and who in other climes will be in jail. A man without background whatsoever has been proven by his ‘colleagues’ to be a fraud and he conducted a clearly fraudulent election even by Nigerian standard.

I think this Dr Obisike is either sponsored or is soliciting sponsorship of a kind that Iwu understands. It also clearly shows failure of leadership in the east or why else would the like of Obisike continually assail our intelligence from that part of the country when we are united in the belief that curbing electoral fraud is a must for the nation to move forward.
